Palavras chave: Construção Social da Memória; Historias e Relatos de Vida; Pensamento Social; Paranismo e Ilusão Biográfica / Abstract: This work intends to analyse the social construction process of João Baptista Groff's memory. He was involved in photography and making films, mainly between the twenties and forties of the nineteenth century in the State of Paraná, South Brazil. To approach the object we keep in mind Bordieu's 'Biographic Ilusion' concept in order to understand its incidence whenever the different narratives meet. In the making of this study we deal with three types of sources: family narratives, documentaries and academic works. The effort includes to study the interdependence among the various aspects of the cultural and historical picture in which Groff lived. Key Words: The Social Construction of the Memory; Life Histories and Life Stories; Social Thought; Paranism and Biographic Ilusion.

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The search for the affectionate eye in João Moreira Salles`s documentaries “Nelson Freire” and “Santiago”, from the investigation of an authorial trajectory in the universe of documentaries, having as references classics such as “Nanook of the Earth” (Flaherty), “Primaries” (Robert Draw and Richard Leacock) and “Chronique d‟un Eté” (Edgar Morin and Jean Rouch), as well as “O fim e o princípio” and “Jogo de cena” (Eduardo Coutinho). To find the path of a more tender look within the story and elucidate the course of its exclusion in order to understand the need of its return. To realize that finding a more intimate narrative that relates to the mundane life and the ordinary man does not empty the individual but rather rescues him, leading to a better perception of the world, designing micropolitics by means of a particular universe and by prizing the trivial in the everyday routine. That is, realizing the power of imagination that fits in everyday life, watching spaces of silence that pertain to daily events, without privileging strong tempo, but rather unimportant moments.

[pt] DE PAULO BARRETO A JOÃO DO RIO: UM INTELECTUAL CARIOCA NA REPÚBLICA VELHA / [ca] FROM PAULO BARRETO TO JOÃO DO RIO: A CARIOCA INTELLECTUAL IN THE OLD REPUBLICLIGIA THOMAZ VIEIRA LEITE 06 November 2023 (has links)
[ca] The work here developed focuses on Paulo Barreto s unique ability to
understand the forces in dispute in the process of formation of the intellectual field
in Rio de Janeiro during the First Republic. It also analyses how this enabled him
to build for himself the representation – and the genre – which would allow him to
be included be included in this controversy. Once inserted in the field, his work
would serve as a mediator between the elitist culture of the salons and the popular
culture of the streets. To fulfill its objectives, the research starts by understanding
the existence of a quarrel between an elite that wanted to be cosmopolitan and
Europeanized and several heterogeneous and fragmented groups that resisted the
advance of these elites through mechanisms other than institutional politics. Based
on this understanding, the investigation focuses on the life and work of Paulo
Barreto, a fat man, born on the border between the two universes in dispute, from
an interracial family and who was understood as a homosexual by his
contemporaries. The work identifies the stigmas to which the author was subjected,
and the representation conducted by him in attempt to mitigate its effects. The
representation is impersonated by his public alter-ego, by which he became known,
João do Rio. In his project of social and financial ascension, the author incorporated
in his character symbols that identified him with the images impersonated by the
local elites, which, alongside his ability to articulate his social capital and the
opportunities that arose from technological advances, enabled the realization of a
good part of his project – not without him suffering intense resistance from
intellectual circles and local political elites.

[en] This dissertation aims to investigate and define, taking into consideration the outbreak of the Eighteenth century Elinghtenment Subject crisis and the serious blow in the Western Reason, suffered in the postwar period, the concept of contemporary dystopia, since this can take various hues and tints. It also attempts to analyze how possible phenomena said dystopian : wandering, fragmentation, lack of universal values, gloom, inadequacy or maladjustment compared to pre-established standards, while triggering different modes of literary construction, appear registered in the narratives of Brazilian contemporary fiction, in particular, in two significant works of literature, namely : Solidão continental, by João Gilberto Noll, and Mongólia, by Bernardo Carvalho.

Previous issue date: 2007-09-21 / This dissertation aims to demonstrate the subsisting rationalist principles and methods, which overcame the closure of the Escolas Modernas (Modern Schools) of São Paulo, starting a discussion with the Brazilian historiography which considers such experiments finished in 1919. In order to achieve this goal, we analyzed the set of scholastic attitudes present in the Academia de Comércio Saldanha , which was founded by the anarchist João Penteado, trying to recognize some continuity in the remaining of this experiment, between the years of 1920 and 1945. The temporal selection is justified by the encompassing period of intense debate about education issues in Brazil. To this analysis, we utilized the school journals, João Penteado s manuscripts and the scholastic administrative documentation which are current located at the Centro de Memória da Escola da Universidade de São Paulo (Memorial Center of the São Paulo University s School). We tried to link the anarchist proposal continuity to the resistance forms present in the liberating associations, understanding them as part of the ideal and culture of the anarchist period / Essa dissertação tem por objetivo demonstrar a permanência dos princípios e métodos racionalistas sobrevivendo ao fechamento das Escolas Modernas de São Paulo, estabelecendo uma discussão com a historiografia brasileira, que considera essa experiência encerrada em 1919.

[pt] O presente trabalho procura analisar a coluna
A análise
O estudo
início do século XX.
[en] This work aims to analyze the column Cinematographo, written by Joe, one of Paulo Barreto s pseudonyms, which was published in Gazeta de Notícias from August 1907 to December 1910. The manuscripts analysis allows to set up the difference between the column and the homonym book, issued in 1909. The study also tries to show the author s unique narrative in this sequence of texts and the importance of the chronicle and of the press in the definition of the cultural scene of Belle Époque in Rio de Janeiro city under two aspects: as a way of literati professionalization and as part of the effort of comprehension of the modernization experience lived by the federal capital in the beginning of the 20th century. The analysis reveals the writer s interest in the modern life, as allows to assert that the technical progress, characteristic of the period, is present both in form and sense of these chronicles.

[en] VOICES AND CARICATURES: ESSAYS ON CONTEMPORARY BRAZILIAN LITERATURE / [pt] VOZES E CARICATURAS: ENSAIOS SOBRE LITERATURA BRASILEIRA CONTEMPORÂNEAMIGUEL BEZZI CONDE 20 February 2018 (has links)
[en] This dissertation is composed of five essays about contemporary Brazilian literature, organized around the idea that the 1990s and 2000s are a moment of crisis in the concepts that traditionally defined the value and place of literature in Brazil. If among us literary value has often been measured according to its degree
of truth or usefulness, the current fractures in the notions of History and Nation help to redefine the preoccupations, priorities, references and practices of Brazilian authors. This does not result in an insular experimentalism, but rather in a political effort, in the sense of search for a place. In such a context, the
emergence of narrative voices that link the narrated events to a determined affective inflection appears as a counterpoint to uncertainties, establishing a new kind of assertiveness that guides and circumscribes the reader s imagination. A discussion of Blanchot s distinction between speaking and seeing, and of the
experience of reading as described by Iser, opens up the way for the analysis of the tension between the point of view and the viewpoint intrinsical to literary texts, and supports the development of the notion of a caricatural literature, which allows the recognition of affinities between apparently incompatible authors, such as João Anzanello Carrascoza, André Sant Anna e Marcelino Freire. Although presented as a group, they are also examined individually, in critical readings that rely on the discussion of such notions as kitsch, political commitment and the value of the ordinary.

[en] AFTER ALL: PATHS IN LATIN AMERICAN CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE / [pt] DEPOIS DE TUDO: TRAJETÓRIAS NA LITERATURA LATINO-AMERICANA CONTEMPORÂNEAPALOMA VIDAL 22 December 2006 (has links)
[pt] A tese acompanha as trajetórias de Diamela Eltit, João
Gilberto
Noll e Rodolfo Enrique Fogwill, realizando através do
trabalho desses
A partir dessa perda, surgirão
algumas
contemporânea, no
efeitos perversos
do consenso neoliberal, no de Eltit. / [en] This thesis follows the paths of Diamela Eltit, João
Gilberto Noll
and Rodolfo Enrique Fogwill, charting, through their
works, the territory
of aesthetical and political questions of the last
decades. The narrative
projects of these writers, as distinct from each other as
they are
pertinent to our time, were marked by a loss of meaning
that relates to
the crisis of revolutionary and avant-garde utopias, which
becomes
visible in the transition from dictatorship to post-
dictatorship. Taking this
loss as a starting point, some alternatives for a
literature to come will
appear: a performatic writing, that puts in place the body
of the writer
himself to give sense to contemporary transits, in Noll´s
case; an
agonistic writing, that uses cynical provocation as a
weapon against
contemporary apathy, in Fogwill´s; a resistant writing,
that allows us to
see the perverse effects of the neoliberal consensus, in
Eltit´s.

The French press of the 19th century is characterized by a combination of journalism and literature that gave rise to various genres and news sections – from the weekly-magazine type journalism to serialized fiction, from interviews to travel reportage and serialized news stories. All this action was happening in the bottom part of newspaper pages, which had been turned into experimental laboratories for the literati who lent their quills to those periodicals. Those same characteristics can be found in Brazilian newspapers of the time. Indeed, innovations in French periodicals were almost simultaneously adopted by Brazilian newspapers, which in turn would adjust, adapt, transform and reinvent them. This research will focus on the life and work of two pairs of French and Brazilian writers and journalists in order to investigate how those relationships and flows of cultural transfers were established between the two countries. Eugène Sue (1804-1857) and José de Alencar (1829-1877), Jules Huret (1863-1914) and João do Rio (1881-1921) were responsible for innovations in the press of their times and, even if unaware, also played the role of cultural mediators in processes of assimilation and borrowing, between inspiration and creation. Taking the narrative of their crossed biographies as a starting point, this work also seeks to understand the development of a specific genre, the chronicle (crônica in Portuguese), a tributary to this 19th century hybrid form of journalism and literature which is present in the main Brazilian newspapers to date.
