Suomalainen biseksuaalisuus:käsitteen ja kokemuksen kulttuuriset ehdot

Kangasvuo, J. (Jenny) 29 October 2014 (has links)
Abstract Bisexuality became a viable identity in Finnish sexual culture in the early 1990’s. Prior to this, bisexuality was not a concept to which identities could be credibly attached. Instead, the concept was used to explain the fundamental nature of human sexuality. This usage also played a role in sexual minority politics, explaining the existence of homosexuality and justifying its acceptance. Bisexuality has helped define the border between comprehensible and incomprehensible sexuality, at certain times strengthening the normal, at other times positioning itself among the weirdest of the weird. The research material of this dissertation includes volumes of publications by the Finnish organizations active in sexual minority politics from the years 1969–1994, volumes of porn magazines from the years 1972–2006, a selection of single articles collected from mainstream press from the years 1993–2012 as well as interviews of 40 Finnish bisexuals from the years 1999, 2005 and 2009–2010. There is a total of 52 interviews, 12 of the informants having been interviewed twice. These interviews form a longitudinal study of Finnish bisexuals and their experiences. This doctoral thesis explores the question of how changes in Finnish legislation, sexual minority politics and media landscape have affected the concept of bisexuality and the experiences of the people who define their sexuality through that concept. This research traces the processes which made bisexuality a viable identity term in Finland after the removal of same-sex fornication from the criminal law. The concept of bisexuality has seen frequent use in porn as well, and the study reflects on how bisexual experiences can be characterized in a situation where the concept of bisexuality has been pornified. This research explains how bisexuality evolved from an instrument of sexual minority politics in the 1970’s and 1980’s to a concept employed by identity politics starting from the 1990’s, and finally to a term which can be used to entice and entertain different audiences in the 2010’s. / Tiivistelmä Biseksuaalisuus identiteettinä on tullut suomalaisessa seksuaalikulttuurissa mahdolliseksi 1990-luvun alkupuolelta lähtien. Yhteensä haastatteluja on 52, eli 12 haastateltavaa on haastateltu kahdesti.

Kathoeys Mueang Nok : Expériences migratoires des personnes transgenres thaïlandaises en Europe / Kathoeys Mueang Nok : Thai transgenders ' migration experiences in Europe

Thongkrajai, Cheera 01 July 2014 (has links)
For many in Thailand, Western Countries evoke visions of wealth, development, and modernity. Like other Thai men and women, kathoeys or transgender MTF persons also strive to go abroad and to attain the life they dream of in the West. This anthropological research, based on three-years of fieldwork in four European countries: France, Germany, The Netherlands, and Switzerland, aims at giving a full account of Thai kathoeys' settlement conditions and shows how they struggle throughout their lives and in terms of their gender. This study, drawn from interviews, discussions, and observations, considers kathoeys' migration process as a search for their own well-being and lifestyle that they long for, which is concerned not only with economical necessities, but also sentimental needs i.e. the possibilities of becoming a woman, finding a partner and having a relationship, or changing their legal status etc. The analytical part of this research explores different strategies, such as the identity camouflage or the mobilization of their social transnational relations which kathoey migrants adopt to be able to live normally as women in their new social environment. The different forms of economical-sexual-emotional relationships between kathoey migrants and European men need to be understood as a part of their migration strategy which gives them a chance to improve their economic and social status as well as to achieve their quest for intimacy.

De formade ögonbrynens ilska : Queer coding inom Disneys porträttering av manliga skurkar / Rage of the Plucked Eyebrows : Disney's Queer Coding

Hjertén, Alma, Alva Soplin, Betsy January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to examinehow and what Disney communicate to their target audience, by analyzing the four animated feature films Peter Pan (1953), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), and Princess and the Frog (2009). The animated movies have been analyzed through a qualitative method to get a better understanding of how Disney portray their male antagonists through queer coding. Through semiotics, and Peter Dahlgren's approach to analyzing media texts, we have gained a deeper understanding of what Disney is communicating. The study shows that there are many obvious cases of queer coding because of the stereotypically feminine way that the male villains are portrayed. The villains show signs of this femininity through everything from facial features to bodily movements. Through this detailed analysis it has come to our attention, that there is no doubt that the villains are being portrayed in a much more feminine way in comparison to the remaining characters in the movies.

The theoretical approach adopted in this study had as one of its pillars, Queer Theory and Judith Butler as one of its main representatives. The film was made as a kind of document, and the main characters Riza Niro and Sexilia as a pretext / pre-text to discuss a subject that presents multiple possibilities of sexual practices. The analysis results bring important reflections about the performances as gender / sexuality can be varied. However, they are not sustained in the mindset of the people, although the vision binary man / penis woman / pussy is constantly reinforced and maintained by heteronormativity, which reinforces the segregation of other sexual practices existing and exercised. Issues like that can be man, woman, gay, lesbian and other related characterizations, are diluted and insipid performances before escaping the frameworks imposed by hegemonic view of sexuality and gender are. Sexual behaviors are put into question when, in a 1982 film, ie, 30 years ago, now we are presented with a set of characters that have a different way and to put plastic on life and their sexualities. We hope that this research will contribute to a psychological reflection of release binaries sex / gender, heteronormativity and compulsory heterosexuality, and also bring a reflection on how education can be flexible, that is, not crystallized, the ways of life.

Tved, Camilla January 2019 (has links)
Eksamensprojekt i sexologi 30 højskolepoint. / The field of reproductive rights for LGBTQ+ individuals has undergone a substantial development during the last twenty years. Different editions of LGBTQ+ families have appeared and steadily rise in numbers. At the same time, LGBTQ+ individuals are disadvantaged when it comes to health issues. Most LGBTQ+ undergo fertility treatment when they form a family, but despite this fact, the research looking at their experience with the health care system in relation to reproduction and family creation, is very limited. By applying the concept of biopower by Michel Foucault this project explores how the current discourse around reproduction and family manifests itself in the fertility treatment of LGBTQ+ persons. The results show a magnitude of challenging experiences on both structural and individual levels. As a result of this, the participants in this study experience a necessity to become experts of their own treatment; they feel out of place and at the same time very visible and invisible in a heteronormative system. The participants are sceptical or have negative expectations to the meeting with the health care professionals, which are founded in previous negative encounters with the health care system. On the other hand, the participants have high expectations to the professional medical level of the health care professionals. The conclusion is that health care professionals in Denmark need additional knowledge and skill sets to provide LGBTQ+ persons the appropriate professional treatment. This calls out for additional Scandinavian research in fertility treatment from a critical and sexological perspective.

ancestral hauntings and utopian conjurings: a fool’s journey into COVEN-19, or Magicks for Unprecedented Times

Clearwood, Maegan 01 July 2021 (has links)
Conceived in the wake of a global pandemic and the unanticipated need to create digital theatre, COVEN-19, or Magicks for Unprecdented Times as a devising project consisted of two witchcraft-inspired performances: a fall 2020 Samhain ritual and a spring 2021 Beltane ritual. The company of undergraduate and graduate theatre witches explored decentralized, iterative, slow, caretaking, queer forms of devising over digital platforms. The written portion of this thesis takes the form of a digital tarot blog: 22 (plus a bonus) interconnected essays and spells that interrogate feminist and queer theories as they pertain to the Coven’s devising process. This digital format not only reflects the malleable nature of the creative process, but it is also a kind of praxis that invites the reader to take an active role in meaning-making and resists an objective, singular narrative. Woven through these tarot cards are threads of utopian futurity, situated subjectivities, and anticapitalist temporalities. The essays and spells are primarily in conversation with adrienne maree brown, Judith Butler, Audre Lorde, Jose Estaban Munoz, and Starhawk – engaging with these theorists as thought-ancestors in order to activate rather than regurgitate their knowledges of radical hope and nonlinear process. The tarot deck takes a situated, backwards glance toward these ancestors as it grasps at seemingly impossible utopian horizons of collaboration and creation.

GIRLFAGS AND GUYDYKES - Too queer for straights, and too straight for queers

Lindqvist, Siri January 2019 (has links)
Aim. To highlight how girlfags and guydykes describe their identities and their experience and interpretation of the identity labels. Background and previous studies. The sexual minority identity of girlfags and guydykes are sometimes perceived as provocative in their contradictory labels. There is little to no previous research on the identities and what is known is mostly presented on internet blogs and forums. The identities seemingly involve aspects on sexual orientation, gender and sexual practice. Research related to sexual minorities, non-normative sex, LGBT and the risk of ill-health with identifying as a sexual minority is presented. Method. Semi-structured interviews in a method of choice was applied to this study so as to ease contact with a sexual minority group. Participants were sought through a Facebook © forum, with a total of eleven interviews with two guydykes and nine girlfags, through video call (2), phone call (1), in person (1), email (6), email with sound files (1). The data was analysed with content analysis. Results and analysis. The results were extensive and had to be delimited. The results were analysed in a sexual constructionist setting using the concept of the heterosexual matrix (Butler, 1990) and the concepts of gender/sex sexuality and nurturance and eroticism presented in van Anders’ (2015) Sexual Configurations Theory (SCT). Three main categories were presented; A play on gender, Sexuality and Orientation, and Identity. Conclusions. There is pride portrayed in the girlfag and guydykes identities. The identity breaks norms regarding gender and sexuality and even sexual orientation within an LGBT context. The results indicate that further research on transgender issues and relational and social aspects of the identities is needed. Keywords: autoandrophilia, gender identity, genderqueer, girlfag, guydyke, homosexuality, LGBT, non-normative, sexual minorities, lesbian man, queer.

"You love me. Real or not real?"

Eriksson, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
This thesis aims to highlight, analyse and problematize how sexualities and relationships are constructed as normative and deviant in the Hunger Games trilogy through the character Katniss Everdeen. With this analysis, the thesis aims to further elucidate the pluralism of meaning within literature as a contribution to the field of feminist cultural studies. Queer theory and queer temporality studies have been used to identify and discuss concepts such as the heterosexual matrix, monogamy and mononormativity, polyamory and other marginalized sexualities. A thematic queer reading serves as a methodological approach to the material to enable searching for queer themes in the series. The thesis shows how heterosexuality and monogamy are constructed and portrayed as normative and compulsory, where all other expressions of sexuality are presented as deviant and thereby can be view as different expressions of queer temporality.
