[en] In 1960, Pier Paolo Pasolini published by Einaudi publishing his book of poetic essays entitled Passione e Ideologia. That work reflects the emotional and intellectual relationship of the author with the Italian dialectal poetry. Starting from the gathering of dialectal songs done by folklorists of the Italian Oitocento such as Pitrè, Tommaseo and Nigra, Pasolini thought over the dialectal poetry as a popular Italian poetry par excellence. In this sense, we intend to demonstrate how Pasolini, refereed by reading the works of the critics Benedetto Croce and Gianfranco Contini, promoted a mapping of the main references that justify the possible affinities of poetry in dialect with a alleged folk poetry. Authors such as Dante, Vico, Rousseau, Herder and Giovanni Pascoli were mobilized by him among those who thought poetry as the first language of men, coming from the vulgar, and above all, as the result of a felt and imagined activity.

[en] The poetry of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen: the poet and the political participation defends the thesis that the poet has the mission of revealing the beauty of the poetry interrelated to life. The poet develops
several tasks to accomplish his mission such as the criticism of the perverted life on his concept of divided time and the announcement of a poetic and political project of making the most of that beauty. On this
mission, the poem is like a man, who is born and faces difficulties the same way it does; the poem is also a poet that commits to the same cause, deepening the social retort and keeping the alliance between
poetry and life. Therefore, the poet, as well as the poem, is an example of a fair way to relate to himself and the others, revealing that poetry is didactic. This research is not based on theories, but on the poetic and political ideas compiled on Sophia Andresen s essays about poetry and art; on these essays the poetry, the poet, the poem and life have recurrent significations and constant implication. This thesis concludes that Sophia Andresen is the example of a poet that accomplishes the mission explained above because of the tasks mentioned before and also the poetic invention which says the poem is a man, connecting, therefore poetry and life on her work.

[en] Poetry and humor are two distinctive methods by which words can be manipulated in order to produce an aesthetic effect. Historically, the use of laughter was present in various ways in models of poetic creation. The act of poetic sublimation in Brazilian literature used irreverence in different social and cultural contexts. Whether this sublimation was used for a scathing attack on individuals or institutions or to modernize Brazilian literature, the act encouraged the questioning of established truths. We seek to investigate these possibilities for dialogue between poetry and humor into three different episodes of Brazilian literature: the satirical poetry of Emilio de Menezes, whose sonnets were used as sharp weapons; the presence of humor in Modernism, especially in the work of authors such as Oswald de Andrade and Barão de Itararé; and the provocative lucidity of Millôr Fernandes, an artist who critically observed with humor the social changes of the twentieth century.

[en] This thesis examines the representations of the work of the poet Paulo Leminski on the Internet, focusing specifically on the microblogging site Twitter, the social networking site Facebook and Kamiquase (main site about the poet s work). The analysis starts discussing the relationship between art and technology and how the Internet is affecting literature (especially poetry). The inference is that the virtual environment refreshes, renews and enables new interpretations and creations from the work of Leminski - though such representations circulate in a fragmented and decontextualized way.

no eixo Rio-
concreta, importando modelos europeus construtivistas e
funcionalistas. A

correntes
estéticas que influenciaram a arte concreta no mundo,
abordando os
movimentos vanguardistas de caráter construtivo que
surgiram no início do

[en] TRANSLATING POETRY: FACE-TO-FACE WITH HILDA HILST AND ADÍLIA LOPES / [pt] UM CORPO A CORPO COM A POESIA: TRADUZINDO HILDA HILST E ADÍLIA LOPESBEATRIZ CABRAL BASTOS 08 October 2010 (has links)
formal, a musicalidade e a intensidade lírica.
Assim, a dissertação
[en] The objective of this dissertation is to offer English translations of poems by
the Brazilian poet Hilda Hilst and the Portuguese poet Adília Lopes; and present
theories and reflections on poetry and translation. The poems by Hilda Hilst are
selected from a book titled Júbilo, Mémoria, Noviciado da Paixão (1974) Formal
complexity, musicality and lyrical intensity are some of the most striking
characteristics of these poems. They are the love poems of a woman-poet writing to
her lover. To translate Adília Lopes we have chosen poems from Antologia (2002), a
Brazilian edition composed of a selection from various books, and Le vitrail, La Nuit
& A árvore cortada (2006). Some of the important aspects of Adília’s poetry are her
melancholic humour, her expeditious rhythm and a language that is considered by
many as colloquial and ordinary. Considering that a translation desires to reproduce
the general effect of the original poem the translator’s reading should thus pay careful
attention to its material effects such as those triggered by the presence of rhythm,
sound and rhyme. The dissertation presents theoretical approaches to art and poetry
that focus on the materiality of poetry (the concept of presence as developed by Hans
Ulrich Gumbrecht is especially relevant to this discussion). It also examines the work
of three intellectuals that not only develop theories about poetry translation but are
themselves also translators: Henri Meschonnic, Haroldo de Campos and Paulo
Henriques Britto. After establishing a theoretical and practical basis for the
translation of poetry, chapters 3 and 4 present the translations themselves. Each poem
is followed by a commentary in which the difficulties and choices of translation are
discussed.

[en] THE INVENTION OF RHYTHM IN JORGE DE LIMA / [pt] A INVENÇÃO DO RITMO EM JORGE DE LIMAMARIA GRACIEMA ACHE DE ANDRADE 02 June 2017 (has links)
[en] The Invention of Rhythm in Jorge de Lima is an analysis of Jorge de Lima s last book that places the author s trajectory within the Modernist movement as a central element in the evolution of his final work. The research traces the evolution of his process of conversion to Catholicism and adhesion to Modernism through readings of poems that show his growing mystical longing. The growth of Lima s religious feeling is observed in tandem with his researches, dialogues and references in the sphere of avant-garde experimentalism.
Considering the importance he gives to the review of Brazilian literary tradition in Invenção de Orfeu and his identification of Brazil with the image of the island, the dissertation shows how Lima reformulates Modernist issues and takes up the problematic relation between innovation and tradition. It also proposes a formal analysis of Lima s verse in the book, detailing his technical procedures and achieved effects in dialogue with semantic content. Finally, the dissertation attempts to situate the work in terms of its Orphic and playful character, in the light of Giorgio Agamben s concepts, as the fertile and defining aspect of the poem s synthesis of Modernism and tradition.

[en] The present study offers a critical approach to the works
of Ferreira Gullar.
The analysis brings texts from distinct arts to the field
of discussion and use then to
give theoretical support to the understanding of Gullar´s
poetry. The rupture his
poetry reached in the field of literature is observed in
studying the author´s
metapoetry, thus also exposing the links of his work in
the contemporary culture.
The effects of a poetics attached to the form and
plasticity of the words are here
considered. Some of the poet´s biography aspects are
noticed, as they are relevant to
make clear the relation between work and cultural life in
Ferreira Gullar´s artistic trajectory.

[en] THE CIRCUSRING ON A SHEET OF PAPER: A TICKET TO THE CIRCUS IN THE POETRY OF CARLOS DRUMMOND DE ANDRADE / [pt] PICADEIRO DE PAPEL: UM CONVITE AO CIRCO NA POESIA DE CARLOS DRUMMOND DE ANDRADECRISTINA SCHWARTZKOPFF BAND 20 October 2004 (has links)
circo exercia a
arte misteriosa e
fascinante e enriquece o acervo literário nacional.
[en] The artistic universe of the circus takes part in our
imaginary and is still a source
of inspiration for artists and poets in the world. In this
thesis we map out the way
circus arts were introduced in our country from its origins
till the middle of the
twentieth century, in order to place it in a historical
context. This may allow us to
investigate in which moment this theme gets in the life as
well as in the poetry of
Carlos Drummond de Andrade as an important questioning.
Drummond is one of
the most outstanding poets in the Brazilian literature of
the twentieth century by
his vast and expressive work within a variety of themes.
Through a set of images
we may observe how he exploits and manipulates the contents
of a popular
tradition, bringing up to the reader an odd and familiar
circus at the same time.
Drummond's childhood was marked by a period in which the
circus played the
role of a vehicle of entertainment and culture to Brazilian
people. By showing his
impressions of the circusring, Drummond reveals us a
glimpse of its secrets,
which enriches our literary patrimony. Preserving the
social memory of Brazilian
circus seems to be one of Drummond's wishes by raising this
art to the same level
of the great themes in his poetry.
