[en] ANALYSING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN THE ZONE OF NON BEING: JURIDICAL-POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS / [pt] PENSANDO A VIOLÊNCIA CONTRA MULHERES NA ZONA DO NÃO SER: IMPLICAÇÕES JURÍDICO-POLÍTICASDANIELA DOS SANTOS ALMEIDA 29 September 2022 (has links)
A violência
na realidade social, recusam a humanidade daquelas/daqueles situadas/situados na zona
do não ser. Tais considerações, portanto, desafiam as fronteiras epistemológicas do
[en] This work presents juridical-political implication that emerge from an analysis
about violence against black women in relation to Frantz Fanon s conceptions of zone of
being and zone of non being. Based on decolonial and afrodiasporic feminist thought, I
analyse how dinamics of power and oppresion on brazilian society are organized in a
racist-cisheteropatriarchal matrix of power, racializing the notion of gender. Once
verified that the rubric violence against women is not suficient to register various
processes of violence against black women, I present the concept of racial-gendered
violence. In adition to naming the indissociability between race and gender, racialgendered violence explicit that racial-gendered aspects related to the subjects involved in
the violent process mediate it s functioning under two distintic gramatics: as exception,
in the zone of being, or as a rule, in the zone of non being. However, in the colonial matrix
of power, the Law does not take account of a plurality of gramatics of violence, ending
up mistifying universalizations which, in reality, deny the humanity of those situated in
the zone of non being. These considerations, therefore, defy the epistemological borders
of the Law to reconfigurate themselves in order to register decolonial pluriversal
dimensions of violence.

[en] The present work investigates the social construct process of the maxixe, a dance of intense and sensual movements that took part of cariocas everyday life between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Supported by periodicals, songs, as well as theatrical plays, the case studies analyzed illustrate how the dance was fashioned in a dynamic way in dialogue with both the Atlantic World and the social conflicts of a transforming Rio de Janeiro. Based on the dance experience of poor, black, and mixed workers, the maxixe had its meaning strategically constructed by different characters that found in the dance a polysemic object of dispute and negotiation on the tensions between race and nationality imposed by the end of slavery.

[en] The dissertation consists on the analysis of the condition of intersectional
invisibility of the girls in conflict with the law, particularly those who are deprived
of their liberty. Studies that investigate the imprisoned girls lives offer inputs for a
better comprehension on how they face the violation of rights and violence,
focusing on their experience and interface with the juvenile justice system.
Applying an intersectional lens, the correlation between the oppressions
experienced by the girls due to their age, gender, class and race are highlighted. The
acknowledgment of age as a social marker of difference is advocated having as a
basis the approach between the intersectionality theory and the childhood sociology
studies. Lastly, the analysis of the public policies aimed to women in prison and to
boys in conflict with the law outlines the absence of initiatives targeted at girls and
indicates possible paths for their protection.

[pt] PROBLEMATIZANDO A PRESENÇA QUE PREENCHE A AUSÊNCIA: A PRESENÇA DO NEGRO NA OBRA DE SÍLVIO ROMERO / [en] PROBLEMATIZING THE PRESENCE THAT FILLS THE ABSENCE: THE PRESENCE OF THE BLACK IN THE WORK BY SíLVIO ROMEROALESSANDRO LECCAS MARCAL NEVES 09 January 2023 (has links)
[en] This research intends to analyze the role of black people in the work of the intellectual Sílvio Romero. The analysis will be based in the works: A literature brasileira e a crítica moderna (1880), A história da Literatura Brasileira (1888), Martins Penna: ensaio crítico (1901) e Brasil Social e outros estudos sociológicos (2001) which the author mobilizes a racialist repertoire to think about racial composition in national identity. Believing in the existence of a gap in the understanding of how the Sergipe intellectual thinks about the black population, we will introduce this issue in a context marked by the action of the Generation of 1870, which elaborated a culture capable of renewing mentalities of that contemporaneity through the scientistic ideals characterized as being absolute truths, acting in opposition to the imperial pillars that would be represented as symbols of backwardness. To carry out this process, we divided the author intellectual action into three phases: radical criticism, balanced criticism and pessimism, choosing works that represent these phases and that bring answers to the following question: what is the role of black people in the work of Sílvio Romero?

[pt] A LUTA DAS MÃES NAS FAVELAS: MARGENS, ESTADO E RESISTÊNCIA / [en] THE STRUGGLE OF THE MOTHERS IN THE SLUMS: MARGINS, STATE AND RESISTANCEVINÍCIUS WINGLER BORBA SANTIAGO 27 October 2016 (has links)
[en] This dissertation deals with the mothers struggle in favelas of Rio de Janeiro in search of justice for their children murdered by military police and other State agents. The confrontations between mothers and the Brazilian State is crossed by issues of class, race and gender which allow us to understand in which way these mothers are related with the State. Trying to understand the struggle of these women I analyze how the black, poor and slum dwellers population has been historically marginalized by the Brazilian State through the construction of an imaginary of slum as a problem of the city. In as much as the politics of pacification of slums kill their children, the mothers get out of their homes and go to public spaces bringing in their bodies the sovereignty of having given the life meanwhile the Brazilian State take it away. The voices of these mothers in struggle put in dispute the idea of state sovereignty, main issue for International Relations.

[en] BODIES AT BAY: THE CONTROL OVER THE CIRCULATION OF BLACK BODIES AND THE PRODUCTION OF THE SHORE AS THE SYMBOL OF THE CARIOCA IDENTITY / [pt] CORPOS À MARGEM: O CONTROLE DA CIRCULAÇÃO DE CORPOS NEGROS E A PRODUÇÃO DA ORLA COMO SÍMBOLO DA IDENTIDADE CARIOCACAROLINE GONCALVES COUTINHO GOMES 14 June 2022 (has links)
corpos negros no urbano.
[en] Considering touristic zones as non-natural, but produced, this Dissertation aims to
understand the relationship between the official image of Rio de Janeiro in the
(inter)national tourism circuit and the violence produced against black bodies in
the urban area. I investigate how the carioca identity is produced by the constant
control of the modes of circulation of the black body. Also, the dissertation studies
how the (in)formal work regime regulates the movement of black people in Rio.
Based on that, I advocate how any movement of the black body outside of the
(in)formal work regime is continually discouraged by the operation of the (public)
security dispositif. The research thinks, specially, about the carioca beach as an
instance which express the carioca life style and an iconic touristic zone.
Moreover, the dissertation engages critically with the development-security nexus
field of study in order to explore how the traditional narrative of the nexus can be
read as a rationality operating in the modern (inter)national. Thus, the research
examines the (re)production of the urban space by racial hierarchies in a postcolonial world since the study of the tourist Rio.

[pt] O PAPEL DE RAÇA NO CAPITALISMO: PARA UM DEBATE RACIALIZADO DO CONTEXTO CONTEMPORÂNEO DAS POLÍTICAS DE IDENTIDADE / [en] THE ROLE OF RACE IN CAPITALISM: TOWARD A RACIALIZED DEBATE ON THE COMTEMPORARY CONTEXT OF IDENTITY POLITICSANNA DE RUIJTER 23 March 2021 (has links)
[en] Driven by the questions that the contemporary political debate around Identity Politics - or identitarian politics, as it has been conventionally called - raises about the relationship between race and class, the present research proposes itself to investigate the role of race in capitalist modernity.
Considering the movement to historicize race in its modern sense as one of central importance to this task, this work engages in a historical reconstruction that emphasizes the role of transatlantic slavery for the capitalist genesis, elucidating its colonial aspect. Alongside the effort to historicize race and to understand capitalism from the events that took place in the Atlantic it is proposed a reflection on the effects of the modern racial signifier through theoretical perspectives that question the limits and ambiguities of race in modernity. Through these considerations that seek to contribute to the critical thinking about the place of race in capitalism the aim of this research is to address the different ways in which the relationship between race and class is understood and mobilized in the political debate around identity struggles – with its positions that range from a neglect of the indissociability between the identities produced by the modern racial sign and the way capitalism functions, on the one side; to a reduction of race to a question of a purely economic order, on the other.

[pt] CONTESTAÇÃO RACIAL COMO EXTREMISMO: A PRODUÇÃO DE RADICAIS NEGROS COMO AMEAÇA À ORDEM POLÍTICA GLOBAL/LOCAL / [en] RACIAL CONTESTATION AS EXTREMISM: THE MAKING OF BLACK RADICALS AS A THREAT TO THE GLOBAL/LOCAL POLITICAL ORDERPEDRO PAULO DOS SANTOS DA SILVA 20 October 2022 (has links)
No século
estadunidense. / [en] This dissertation investigates the making of black radicals as a threat to the
global/local political order, focusing on two historical periods in which a discourse
on black extremism emerged in the United States. The first corresponds to the
late 1960s and early 1970s, when the Black Panther Party was constructed as the
leading domestic threat to the U.S. security; the second, to the late 2000s and 2010s,
when activists and social movements engaged in anti-police brutality re-entered the
realm of concrete domestic threats to the U.S. In both historical contexts such
threat-making processes were also infused with discourses concerning other
racialized global threats to the U.S. The second half of the 20th century was marked
by the construction of black radicals as a threat intrinsically connected with
anticommunism and invested toward national liberation movements in former
colonies. In the 21st century, the threat of black radicals is re-articulated into one
intimately linked to Islamic terrorism. These claims are based on a discursive genealogical analysis that explores historical records made by policing agencies
regarding black extremism. The dissertation points to the persistence of the
framing of black radicals as a security problem; within the United States, while
the terms for these threat-making processes have been globally re-articulated.
Hence, the black extremism discourse simultaneously refers to a racialized threat
to the global and local political orders in the perception of the United States
policing architecture.

[en] IT S NOT LOVE, BUT UNPAID WORK: AN ANALYSIS OF WOMEN IN CARE WORK / [pt] NÃO É AMOR, É TRABALHO NÃO PAGO: UMA ANÁLISE SOBRE MULHERES NO TRABALHO DO CUIDADOCLAUDIA DE OLIVEIRA VICENTE 22 January 2024 (has links)
Busca
capitalista sob as novas morfologias do trabalho; compreender as abordagens
trabalho do cuidado.
trabalho do cuidado.
escolaridade, localidade, condição no domicílio, atividades desenvolvidas,
Explicitam a dinâmica do trabalho do cuidado no período estudado, permitindo
observar aspectos da divisão sociossexual e racial do trabalho. / [en] This dissertation aims to analyze the centrality of work in the demands of
care and social reproduction within the framework of capitalist society,
considering the dimensions of gender-race-class in care work. It seeks to delve
deeper into the dilemmas of reproductive work in the context of capitalist society
under the new morphologies of work, understand the approaches to reproductive
work in Marxist feminist theories, and analyze the impacts of different forms of
exploitation-oppression of women in the field of care work. The guiding question
of this research is that care work, as it is mostly carried out by women, is not
treated in much of the classical literature as work. Considering the historical
determinants of gender-race-class exploitation-oppression, women are led to
experience more deeply the conditions of subalternization and feminization of
poverty, which is intensified with their greater presence in care work. The
methodology used was bibliographical research on paid/unpaid care work in
domestic spaces and data produced by the Continuous National Household
Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and
Statistics (IBGE) between 2017 and 2022, period in which the annual reports were
made available. The data collected shows the insertion of women in care work
with details of race, age, education, location, status at home, activities carried out,
remuneration and working conditions (whether or not they have a formal
contract). They explain the dynamics of care work in the period studied, allowing
us to observe aspects of the sociosexual and racial division of work.

autor. A pesquisa procurou inserir o registro do
primeiros anos do século XX, a análise das concepções
médicas e científicas sobre a loucura e a presença do
tema
nos textos do autor e, por último, o convívio do
romancista
[en] The present study aims at analyzing mental diseases in the
city of Rio de Janeiro at the end of the 19th century and
at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the issues
related to madness, such as race, alcoholism and heredity,
through the eyes of the writerpatient Afonso Henriques de
Lima Barreto, mainly through his fiction and autobiographic
writings. The present analysis tried to include individual
records, i.e. records of a man who was segregated and
treated according to the procedures given to the mentally
sick at that time, so that the research could be carried
out within a broader perspective. The dissertation
consists of three parts: the attempt to establish
similarities between the experience of madness and the
experience lived by the population in Rio de Janeiro during
the first years of the 20th century, the analysis of
scientific information and doctors` concepts on mental
disturbance and the presence of the theme in the writer`s
works and last, the writer`s experience with madness both
at home and at the asylum Hospício Nacional de Alienados.
