<b>Using Predictive Analytics to Reduce Small Business Cost Estimation Error</b>Diana H Solt (17222431) 19 October 2023 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Small and medium enterprises generally employ the use of custom developed quoting programs to bid on goods and services. Custom bid programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel) are used to capture the company-specific costs of production. The inputs of variable costs, such as machine rate and scrap rate, are critical to get correct (Brassington & Pettitt, 2013); however, companies often rely on educated guesses and industry expertise to quote packaging products to end-users. Due to the guesswork involved there can be a financial difference between the quoted costs and actual costs. This variance is often the cause of significant lost dollars. Price, if not determined correctly, could negatively impact both the company’s and the product’s profitability (Helna, 2020). Predictive analytics can be used to support quoting activities by providing a future value based on previous job performance. The purpose of the present study is to identify whether predictive analytics can be used to predict machine rate and scrap rate to give more accuracy to quoting estimation.</p>

Förbättring av informationsflödet i inköpsprocessen : En studie om hur informationsflödet kan kartläggas och förbättras för projekt på Siemens Energy / Improving the flow of information in the purchasing process : A study on how the information flow can be mapped and improved for projects at Siemens EnergyLepir, Nevena, Yasin, Törel January 2023 (has links)
Siemens Energy is a global company which is active in energy technology and offers different types of gas turbines and steam turbines among other types of services. This study was conducted at Siemens Energy in Finspång. The importance of the purchasing function within a company and its profitability has increased and it is thereby important for a company to take advantage of it. Siemens Energy strives to have a transparent supply chain that forms a competitive advantage and provides value along every step in order to create value for the company and its customers. To be able to provide a product to the customer, a project group is assigned at Siemens Energy consisting of different types of roles and areas of responsibility. Multiple functions are involved to manage a project from beginning to end. Budget, lead time and different types of specifications are determined at the beginning of a project and follow through the rest of the project. For big and complex flows, good communication between different functions is essential for information regarding, for example, deviations to reach out to the concerned parties. Siemens Energy describes that an overview of how different functions work with the information flow in the purchasing process from construction to goods receiving is missing and requests a flowchart and suggestions for improvements. Therefore, the aim of this study is to create a flowchart over the information flow and to identify and present suggestions for improvements. A theoretical model, Business Process Management, was used to structure the work in this study. The first step in the model is to create a flowchart of the current state regarding the information flow in the different functions. Interviews with 18 people in different roles were conducted to understand the current state. The second step in the model is to identify areas of improvement so that measures can be performed. Activities in the flowchart were divided into value added activities, non-value added activities and non-value added but necessary activities according to the Lean philosophy. Activities which were considered non-value added activities could be categorized into different types of wastes according to the Lean philosophy in order to be addressed using time reduction theory. The third step in the model is to present a new map of the measured activities. Finally, the activities were analysed qualitatively to gain insight into whether the impact on time, cost and quality would be positive, negative, or unchanged. The results from the flowchart and the actions of the measured activities resulted in suggestions for improvements. Further, it was described which of the activities Siemens Energy should focus on improving to increase the quality of the information flow in the purchasing process and decrease cost and time spent. How the implementation should be conducted was not a part of this study which leaves room for further studies in the future that can be carried out at Siemens Energy.

從流程觀點進行以RFID為主之U化效益研究─以博物館底片管理為例 / Evaluation of the RFID Information System in Museum Image Archive Management蔡依儒, Tsai, I Ju Unknown Date (has links)
The word "Ubiquitous" originated from Latin, which means god is omnipresent. By using various high-tech products and Internet, the concept of ubiquitous world could be realized. In coordination with U-Taiwan project, our government decided to construct the U-infrastructure using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and Radio-frequency identification (RFID). Furthermore, RFID has been widely adopted in many fields, including access control management, product tracking management, health care application, museum information and file management, active/passive gallery tours (e.g., optimum guide route, product information).
Most museum image archive management is done by hand, including preservation, inventory, loaning and return etc. In addition to consume extra manpower, it's also error-prone. While stocktaking or searching, it's more accurate and easier to locate certain product using RFID. Moreover, by using RFID it also promote the performance and enhance the accuracy of image access control management, and reduce the possibility of error occurrence.
However, introducing new technology could also cause other issues because of the impractical lead-in plan. Therefore, through case studies, we want to evaluate the performance of ubiquitous information application using RFID, and choose a museum cultural relics image archive management as our target. Our study analyzes the original operating process using module standardized tools to evaluate the difference in performance after the implementation of RFID.

Process Management is identified as an effective strategy to achieve results in the organization. The achievement of desired changes requires changes to existing business processes. People are the only common element in process and change management. The achievement of expected benefits requires a focus on the efforts required to obtain the support of affected people. The literature review revealed over one hundred factors which affect change. These factors were classified in to four distinct groups, namely: Type I individual characteristics, Type II individual characteristics, organizational characteristics and influence factors. Influence factors have a direct impact on the individual. The factors identified were subsequently classified into the 15 factors or attributes used for the empirical study. The first qualitative study selected, from the 15 attributes, the 10 most important factors which influence individual change. These 10 factors were subsequently used for the internet study whose objective was to identify the relative importance of these factors. Two methods were used to estimate the importance of each factor for each individual participating in the study, namely: Adaptive Conjoint Analysis (ACA) and Ordering. The use of Cluster Analysis used similarity analysis to identify 2 to 10 groups together with resulting relative importance scores. These groupings were subsequently contrasted with control variables and whether the change, analyzed by the individual, was the result of a demand from Information Technology. For those groups formed through the use of ACA, there are indications that the control variables and the change driver have an impact on the behavior of the individual. For those groups identified though ordering analysis, the results obtained reveal, with minor exceptions, that neither the control variables nor the change driver have an impact on the behavior of the individual. The application of Friedman non parametric test and multiple comparisons of Dunn-Bonferroni for prioritizing the importance scores calculated through the ACA method, revealed the existence of two distinct groups. Ordering analysis revealed the existence of three groups with differing attribute or factor prioritization.

This dissertation presents the proposal of a conceptual theoretical model of management of new medicines development process, for implementation in public pharmaceutical industry, which aims to contribute to the improvement of management of
technology and innovation of the Instituto de Tecnologia em Fármacos (Farmanguinhos) da
Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ), so as to make possible the alignment between the development of new medicines, strategic planning, and the institutional and governmental policies. Initially, it is presented a sociological approach, considering the political goals and
guidelines of public support to innovation and economic development. Employment of power of
the State to drive the development of new technologies and new forms of organization of
production is exemplified from Farmanguinhos’ work, and its role in national pharmaceutical
market adjustment. The main theoretical approaches on business processes, management of
product development process and of technological innovation in pharmaceutical industry are
systematized, which allows the identification of concepts, relevant characteristics and the best
practices in the area. Based on empirical analysis of practices and institutional documents is presented a comprehensive diagnosis of the current scenario in Farmanguinhos regarding new
product development, technology and innovation management. The strategic actions and model
proposed, if deployed in some extent, may contribute to the consolidation of the paper of the Instituto de Tecnologia em Fármacos as State-owned Pharmaceutical Laboratory, and reference centre of Brazilian research, development and pharmaceutical production.
