00.00.00 : En inre en yttre resa

Johansson, Ann January 2010 (has links)

Hallmarks, Sigils & Colophons

Ruccia, Daniel Domenico January 2013 (has links)
<p>This dissertation contains two related documents: a piece of music entitled Hallmarks, Sigils & Colophons for three female singers and chamber orchestra setting excerpts from Christian Bök's Eunoia; and an article entitled "Reorganizing the Rock and Roll: U.S. Maple's Musical Deconstructions." These two chapters are linked by an engagement with the phonic materiality of speech and the polyvalent implications that arise from the intense musical study of that materiality. </p><p>Chapter 1, Hallmarks, Sigils & Colophons, is a six-movement work for soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, and chamber ensemble. Each movement sets excerpts from the individual chapters of Christian Bök's Eunoia, a collection of prose poems inspired by the avant-garde literary group Oulipo. As such, each chapter only uses single vowels: "Chapter A" uses only words with the letter a, "Chapter E" uses only e, and so on. The piece explores the sound worlds of each individual vowel, attempting to create unified musical ideas from each vowel's unique sonic character. I am particularly interested in the ways in which the limited range of vowel sounds changes the affect of a sonic space. I occasionally attempt to mimic (or at least reference) Bök's use of constraints, though I never allow constraint to override musical concerns. Despite using words, this piece tells no unified story, and each movement exists, on some levels, as self-contained wholes.</p><p>Chapter 2, "Reorganizing the Rock and Roll: U.S. Maple's Musical Deconstructions," discusses the relationship between the music of the rock group U.S. Maple and Derrida's theories of deconstruction. U.S. Maple's music is often described by critics and fans as "deconstructing" rock music, though the band dismisses the term for its pejorative implications. In this article, I argue that the band's music could, in fact, be read as expanding the Derridean concepts of différance and the "trace" into the realm of music. I describe how US Maple performs what Marcel Cobussen terms "deconstruction in music" to the case of conventional hard rock tropes. I focus particularly on the way in which singer Al Johnson creates a language out of paralinguistic utterances--singing in yelps, growls, grunts, groans, and garbled words--and thereby cultivates the multiplicity of sounds and significations that are typically relegated to subordinate status by other rock singers. I also use Richard Middleton's ideas about repetition in pop music to analyze how the band deconstructs the syntax of rock by imbuing their songs with the affect of improvisation.</p> / Dissertation

En bok om Sveriges hemlösa katter : En konstnärlig gestaltning i reportageform

Kastl-Lungberg, Hanna January 2017 (has links)
This project regards animal rights and in this case homeless cats specifically in Sweden. The process has been determined by three keywords; documenting, narrative and artistic and with these words in mind I designed a book on the subject. I travelled to different places in the south of Sweden to see people who are passionate about rescuing cats and who constantly work to raise the status and the value of the cat. It is a visually interesting book filled with photographs of cats, surroundings and people and the stories these people shared with me. This report contains arguments regarding the design decisions that I made to create the book.

Old Habits in a New World? E-book management techniques at an academic library

Konrad, Katherine January 2013 (has links)
As interest in the e-book market grows, both academic libraries and researchers strive to understand developing trends amongst patrons. The academic library is one venue where improvised measures in e-book collection management can freely abound. Recent studies have focused on establishing formalized management techniques. This study explores the e-book collection management techniques in use lens of Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory. Analysis revealed that library staff employ e-book collection management techniques that are both similar and dissimilar to those used in print book management. This study investigates both similarities and differences using Bourdieu’s field and habitus to enable explanation of relevant management choices. Analysis showed that librarians in both similar and different subject libraries employ both unique and complementary techniques to e-book collection management. Further inquiry shows possible connections between a librarian’s habitus and their subsequent approach to e-book management. / Program: Masterprogram: Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap, Digitala bibliotek och informationstjänster

” … då lever man i två världar på något sätt …” : Om några vuxna kvinnliga läsares upplevelser av ”en bra bok” / “… then somehow you are living in two worlds …” : About some adult female readers’ experiences of “a good book”

Anund, Anneli, Eckerberg Sanvik, Eva January 2011 (has links)
This Master’s thesis provides insights into adult women’s fictional reading within the conceptual phrase “a good book”. Eight qualitative and semi-structured interviews were performed in order to examine the nature of response and perceived benefits. The collected data were analyzed by Louise M. Rosenblatt’s reception-oriented transactional theory of reading and the cognitive psychology-based model of reading developed within the joint Nordic project SKRIN. The thesis perspectives entail a substantive shift of focus from the comprehension of a “good book” to the understanding of a “good” reading experience. The evaluative response “good” is considered by the means of separate understandings in what ways evaluation occur in a mutual relationship between reader and text. Results show that a “good” read is characterized by interacting aesthetic and cognitive aspects partly shaped by personal circumstances but not grounded in any individual contextbound situation. The primary perceived benefit is the personal commitment based on a socially oriented reading. Communication created between reader and text is partly shaped by ethical standpoints. Although at times emotionally demanding reads, most women refer to them as entertaining and recreational. A “good” read provides knowledge within the understanding of objective and subjective dimensions of learning. The primary perceived benefit of knowledge is subjectively expressed as insights and understandings. Conclusions are that the women seem to appreciate leaving their immediate life for the sharing of other worlds and perspectives. Consequently a “good” read offers the opportunity to broaden personal horizons by participation in other social and cultural settings than the adjacent. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Tolv böcker i datorn : bättre än en i handen? / Twelve books on the computer- better than one in the hand?

Rosendahl, Hanna January 2007 (has links)
This thesis studies how readers of the electronic book (the e-book) use and perceive the electronic medium as a carrier of fiction. In this study it is assumed that fiction is mostly read in printed format. Therefore it is interesting to ask why some readers choose to read on screen. As there are all too few studies conducted on how readers perceive and use the e-book as a medium, this study aims to enrich an undeveloped research area. The study is based upon a qualitative questionnaire. It focuses on the e-book as a carrier of written text, which means that e-books such as mp3-books are not taken into account. The media theory Uses and Gratifications is used as a perspective from which the results are analysed. The theory also provides the reader of the study with a cognitive framework and a context in which the study is placed. The results are analysed using themes constructed from the answers of the respondents. Among the diverse result, the major conclusion is that there are two different reading situations, which decide how the respondents experience and use the e-book. The first reading situation is limited, because of the use of desktop computer or laptop when reading, in which the respondents are emotionally attached to the paper book. The other situation is flexible because of the use of palm computer or mobile phone, which makes flexible reading possible for the respondents who appreciate the e-book and the paper book as two separate media. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Debatterna om En bok för alla år 1992 och 2007 : En diskursanalys / The debates regarding En bok för alla 1992 and 2007 : a discourse analysis

Lindsköld, Linnéa January 2008 (has links)
The aim of this Master’s thesis is to describe and compare the debates regarding the public funded publishing company En bok för alla (EBFA). On two occasions, 1992 and 2007, the public funding was threatened, which lead to debates and protests. The funding was revoked in 2007. I want to examine if by studying a particular product of cultural policy, one can se tendencies to how the cultural policy in whole change over time. Using a discourse analysis I will be able to distinguish and analyze how the debates were designed, and which discursive formations one can discern in the debates. The study is based upon articles in newspapers and political documents. The analyze shows that the debate of 1992 focuses on legitimating EBFA with economical arguments. Almost all statements from the period are in favor of a continued funding. The debate of 2007 focuses on the changed book market and whether there was room for a public funded company. In 1992 there was hegemony in the debate, limiting what actors could say about EBFA. In 2007 this hegemony was starting to come apart, opening up for new ways to talk about cultural policy. In 1992 there were no struggles about defining important terms, which could be seen in the debate of 2007. The revoke of the public funding to EBFA can be seen as a neo liberal formation taking place in Swedish cultural policy. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Bokens alla sidor. Ett nytt sätt att främja ungdomars läsning genom Bok-event? / A book’s all sides. A new method to promote reading of youth through book-event?

Horvat, Erika January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate whether the reading promotion project called “A book’s all sides”, together with the activities of the book-event, can stimulate young people’s reading. The research questions are: How do the project leaders plan and organize activities for the book-event? How do the young people respond to the activities at the book-event? Do the young people get interested in the book which is presented at the book-event? Which connections between Vygotskij’s theory and the activities can be found in the book-event? The theoretical approach is based on Lev Vygotskij’s socio-cultural theory. To answer my research questions I have implemented four qualitative interviews and two interviews with the adult activity leaders and observed a book-event in the classroom. The class interpreted a book through drama exercises at the book-event that I observed. The results of the examination showed that there were no differences in the young people’s responses to the activities regardless of whether they were interested in reading or not. Only one pupil, who otherwise wasn’t interested in reading, started to read the book. The project had, in other words, limited effect. Conclusions from the investigation were that a combination of different methods could encourage reading more. A book-event should be a recurrent occurrence where young people could be involved in the book selection and where they could plan and implement activities which are based on their experience and competence.

Debatten kring e-böcker på folkbibliotek / The debate on e-books in Swedish public libraries

Lindblom, Josefin January 2012 (has links)
The increased popularity of e-books in the Swedish publiclibraries started a debate in newspapers and library journalsbecause of the increase in costs, which this popularity hadled to. The main subject of the debate was the businessmodel provided by the e-book vendor Elib, which accordingto some ruins the libraries financially. In this thesis, opinionarticles have been analyzed using a theoretical model ofcultural politics by the Danish Library and Informationscience researcher Dorthe Skot-Hansen. The results of thestudy showed that people from the library field, publishersand authors were the ones contributing to the debate. Theanalysis of the articles showed that the model of culturalpolitics which consists of four general motives: socialchange, education, economic growth and entertainment wasvisible in the articles. The motive of economic growth wasthe most dominant perspective in the articles, followed byeducation and social change. The arguments used in thearticles were different according to which part in the debateone had. Authors of articles from the library field were themost dominant part, using argumentations of the libraries asinsitutions contributing to social change, culturalexperiences and education. The perspective of economicgrowth was the most covered one in the articles, concerningthe economic situation for the libraries, the authors andpublishers rights to economic compensation for the lendingof e-books. The analysis of the articles also showed aconcern about the book markets and the libraries’ positionsin the digital society, a development which has lead to aninsecurity concerning the economics. / Program: Bibliotekarie

En hel roman för en femma : Utgivningspolitik inom En bok för alla 1976–1979 / A novel for a fiver : Politics of publishing within the publishing company En bok för alla

Esbjörnson, Alfred January 2018 (has links)
The Swedish publishing company En bok för alla (which translates as “A book for everyone”) was established in 1976 following a decision in the Swedish parliament granting the right of the government to sign a cooperative agreement with the non-profit foundation Litteraturfrämjandet. Using state funds, the publishing company would publish books of high literary value to be sold at low prices over a three-year period. The purpose of this was to combat the kind of literature that was sold at supermarkets and corner shops, and which was deemed being of low literary value, but also to reach the wider public and attract non-readers. In this study I argue that the establishment of En bok för alla must be viewed as an expression of Swedish cultural policy which took form in the early years of the 1970s. Two years prior to En bok för alla being established the Swedish parliament passed the first cultural policy act of Sweden, thus laying the groundwork for cultural policy to come. In this act, it is stated that aim of Swedish cultural policy was to contribute to a better social environment and to work for the furtherance of equality. This would be achieved by, among other things, minimizing the negative effects of commercial interests in the cultural sphere and decentralizing the production and distribution of culture. During the 1960s and 1970s, books had become increasingly expensive and books of higher literary quality were both more difficult and more expensive than their lower quality counterparts. I argue that many looked at this as a shortcoming on the part of the above mentioned commercial interests, who valued money more than literature. I will also show how some these ambitions, bold though they may have been, in the end fell short of accomplishing the goal of En bok för alla. Though they did succeed in publishing books at low costs, the question of whether they were of high literary quality or not I can’t say, they did not seem to reach the wider audience they had hoped to attract. Following the Swedish election of 2006 and the subsequent change of government, the state funds for En bok för alla were withdrawn in 2007. The argument given for this was that the book market had changed since 1976. This was of course true, but in my opinion the need for these high-quality dime-store books is perhaps even more acute today than ever before. In a time when smartphones, television and computers all compete for our attention, I believe that it is becoming an increasingly important task for our society to secure the role of books and reading in the world of media.
