Animerade bokomslag i ljudboksappar : Att väcka intresse med hjälp av rörlig grafik / Animated covers in audiobook apps : To create interest through motion graphics

Jürss, Matilda January 2020 (has links)
On many media platforms, there are often some form of moving elements, for example, certain songs in Spotify are accompanied by an animation, or shows on Netflix are previewed through a short trailer. However, this is not something that has yet reached the audio and e-book world, where the apps still only consist of static elements and covers. In this study, therefore, the possibility of moving book covers in these apps is explored, more specifically how such a moving book cover can be designed to create more interest in a book. To reach an answer to the question, the theory of book covers, motion graphics and design principles has been collected, after which an interview has been conducted with users of these apps, to get a better understanding of how they use the apps, and what gets them interested in a cover. Subsequently, two proposals for moving book covers were produced through a design process where concept ideas were set against each other in a Pugh chart. From there on, one of the concepts was taken to further development, and a storyboard and finally an animation was produced. The new covers were then evaluated in surveys that collected both qualitative and quantitative data from the participants, to evaluate whether the covers were perceived as more interesting than the static covers. The study found that the moving covers were perceived as more interesting, and that it was important for the design that they were kept simple and clear, and that they are representative of the genre in which the book is categorized.

Hägglund Molin, Mattias January 2021 (has links)

Folkbibliotekariers syn på bibliotekens tjänster fördigitala ljudböcker : pinsamt, viktigt och bra / Public librarians’ views on library services for digital audiobooks : embarassing, important and beneficial

Grundström, My January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this master thesis is to examine services for digital audiobooks’ role at public libraries in Sweden. The focus of the thesis is on public librarians’ views on services for digital audiobooks within the public library activities. The study is formulated against the rising demand for digital audiobooks and the impact these developments have had on the literary field, which public libraries are regarded a part of. The thesis is based on a theoretical framework which consists of two perspectives: 1) deterministic versus constructionist views on technology and 2) institutional identity and legitimacy. Semistructured interviews have been held with seven public librarians in the municipality of Gothenburg in order to examine how the librarians perceived the implementation and development of the public library services for digital audiobooks, if the services have imposed any changes for the individual librarian and how the librarians perceive the service as a part of the public library’s activities. The empirical data has been analyzed through qualitative content analysis. The empirical data shows that the librarians experience a limited capacity to effect change in regard to the service for digital audiobooks’ implementation, functionality, interface and supply of literature. The informants describe how shortcomings in regards to these aspects hinders the service from being used to meet perceived expectations and needs from users, as well as to live up to the public library’s institutional identity, which threatens the legitimacy of the public library.

Alltid tillgängliga men dyra för biblioteken : En enkätstudie om e-mediernas ställning på folkbiblioteken / Always available but expensive for the libraries : A survey on the position of electronic media in public libraries

Andersson, Lina, Magnusson, Eveline January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to investigate and map public librarians’ marketing of electronic media, and what perceptions shape this work. A questionnaire has been sent to the head libraries in all the Swedish municipalities (n=290) gaining a response rate of 74,5%. The data has been analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Further analysis of the results was conducted using the three final steps of institutional change as our theoretical framework. The results show that most public libraries market electronic media digitally as well as in the physical library, but rarely during book-talks. Furthermore, public librarians do not inform users of enhanced features, such as customizing font sizes, to any great extent. The results also show that public librarians perceive electronic media as available and flexible, but also as expensive and a complement to print media. The study concludes that electronic media is going through the steps of institutional change but has not yet reached a state of cognitive acceptance within the public library field.

Olika sätt att läsa : en undersökning av hur män och kvinnor tar del av litteratur / Different ways of reading : an interview study of how men and women approach literature

Ehrnborg, Alice January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to examine how men and women approach literature, and how it differs from each other. Earlier studies focus on children’s reading habits, and this study will compare this to how men and women read as adults. From this it discusses how this information could be used to increase men’s reading. With gender studies made by Raewyn Connell and Rebecca Pearse, and dr Elaine Millard as a background, ten interviews with five men and five women were conducted. The interviewees were asked questions regarding their reading habits, approach to reading and their opinion on audiobooks and physical books. The answers collected in many ways mirrored earlier research done on the subject, showing similar patterns in reading habits both for physical books, e-books and audiobooks. This showed that women in general read more books than men, but the difference were much smaller when looking at the use of audiobooks. The examination of the sources and the interviews show the possibility of increasing men’s reading with the use of audiobooks.

Den digitala bokens tidsålder : En diskursanalytisk undersökning av debatten om e- och ljudböcker i Biblioteksbladet under åren 2012–2020 / The age of the digital book : A discourse analysis of the e- and audiobook debate in Biblioteksbladet between the years 2012–2020

Sarah, Ingren Ahlman January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to analyse which themes, discourses and positions can be identified in the public e- and audiobook debate in the Swedish library journal Biblioteksbladet between the years 2012-2020. Using discourse analysis as methodological framework, various conflict areas have been sorted into economic, juridical, technical and accessibility related themes. Within these themes, several discourses have been identified. By examining which concepts appear in the material and which positions (positive, neutral, negative) the subjects have, an opportunity has been given to better understand how language is used by various represented groups in the debate.

Bokdjungeln - Framtidens bibliotek

Fergusson, Christopher, Karlsson, Daniel, Zuta, Festim January 2007 (has links)
Sveriges barnbibliotek tappar besökare. Allt runt omkring oss förändras, men barnbiblioteken ser likadana ut. / The children libraries in Sweden are losing visitors. Everything around us is changing but the children’s library stays the same. Our aim with this master’s thesis was to make kids from nine to twelve to visit the library more often and hopefully develop a higher interest of borrowing and reading books. Our goal is to make the library more attractive and appealing for children. We have seen a common interest of electronics and high-tech stuff among children during our former projects and field studies and we decided to use this to make the environment for children more appealing. We will do this thru two prototypes that we have developed. We call them The Storytellingtent and The Bookbrowser.

To Listen, or Not to Listen : A Discourse Analysis of the Swedish Audiobook Debate

Hellström, Hannes January 2024 (has links)
This thesis explores public discourses surrounding audiobooks as manifested in cultural articles in Swedish newspapers. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding about values and opinions about the audio book as a literary media. The method employed is discourse analysis, with a theoretical frame- work built mainly on Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffes discourse theory. The articles were gath- ered from Sweden’s four biggest newspapers, totaling 45 articles between the years 2016-2023. Four major themes were identified in the material: the form and content of the audiobook, the act of reading versus listening, the commodification of literature, and the economic aspects of the audiobook market. Further, the study identifies both pessimistic and optimistic discourses. Pessi- mistic discourses see audiobooks as a threat to traditional literary forms and quality, while optimistic discourses highlight the potential of audiobooks to expand the concept of literature and promote reading. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how audiobooks are discussed and debated in Swedish media, reflecting broader societal and cultural concerns. This is a two years master’s thesis in Library and Information Science.

Användande av ljudböcker respektive högläsning på förskolan : En studie av pedagogers arbete och erfarenheter / The use of audiobooks and read-alouds at preschool : A study of educator´s work experiences

Sundler, Caroline January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how a selected group of educators work with and experience the use of audiobooks and read-alouds at preschool. The study is focused on how educators reflect about and work with audiobooks and read-alouds and whether there has been any change in the use of audiobooks at preschool, with the increasing popularity of audiobooks in society. The study rests on interviews conducted with a total of four educators from two preschools. The results show that the educators believe that read-alouds are an important part of children's language development, while audiobooks are seen as a complement to the read-alouds. The result also shows that audiobooks are rarely or never used in the preschool activities while read-alouds are taking into practice at least once a day, often more.

Vedbring, Marléne January 2018 (has links)
Independet silent reading - Out of old habit or a lesson with purpose?  The aim of this study was to examine whether teachers use the method of independent silent reading purposefully or if they do it out of old habit. The research focuses on what purpose the teachers have and which working methods they use when working with silent reading. I investigated who it is that chooses the books to be read and what factors are determining this choise. Finally, I wanted to find out how the silent reading time is used by the pupils and the teachers. In order to investigate this, observations were made in classes during silent reading time and semistructured interviews were conducted with teachers and students. The results show that most teachers have a clear purpose with silent reading and that they work with different reading strategies to teach the children to become independent silent readers. However, an important part of succeeding in silent reading is that it happens on a regular basis, preferably every day.     Finally, I would like to thank my supervisor Yvonne Knospe, university lecturer at the Department of Language Studies, Umeå University for all the feedback and guidence during the work process. It has been a pleasure to have you as a supervisor. Thank you!
