Posthuman Art Conservation CurriculumPeck, Scott Joseph 12 1900 (has links)
At least half of the art objects in the public trust are currently in need of conservation today. In consideration of this crisis, a posthuman version of art conservation curriculum is proposed to transgress current limitations of the field. Through applying Michel Foucault's genealogy and archaeology to art conservation and its education, Anthropocentric motivations undergirding conservation are revealed. Foucault's death meditation inspires my narrativization of a fire event that incites a re-visioning of my over 25 years of conservation and teaching experience. By re-contextualizing theorist Ted Aoki's works, art conservation curriculum becomes a reflective and affective site for reciprocal healing of self and other, incorporating the lives of conservation students and art objects. Reconsidering art conservation curriculum in light of Aokian notions of curriculum as plan and curriculum as lived, provokes the curricular potentialities of new materialism, along with quantum physics' entanglement, intra-agency and intra-activity for the field. Art conservation and its curriculum are radically reimagined as indwelling between humanist priorities of the Anthropocene and posthumanist possibilities towards more caring, ethical and sustainable futures for both human and nonhumans' coexistence on this planet.

Une critiqueidentitaire permet de déplacer la triple dialectique de la comparaison : positivisme c. pluralisme, universalisme c.différentialisme et républicanisme c. libéralisme pluraliste. La problématique de l’orientation identitaire du droitest commune aux deux systèmes juridiques. Aussi, la recherche est relative à l’identité du constitutionnalisme.L’exclusion se définit comme le décalage entre l’orientation identitaire du constitutionnalisme et l’identité ducorps du sujet. France and Canada share the issue of how legal reality is oriented toward specific identities.This research, then, is a critique of constitutionalism identities. Reconstructing truth in modern society: John Paul II and the fallibility of NietzscheWelter, Brian 30 November 2007 (has links)
This thesis examines the intellectual environment in which Pope John Paul II's thought
operates, especially as it pertains to his writings on the truth. The pontiff's thinking faces open
hostility toward Christianity, as exemplified by Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel Foucault. The
pope's theology pays attention and builds links to modern thought through its positive
engagement with phenomenology and personalism, as well as through its opposition to
materialism. Despite these connections, this theology fails to fit well with (post)modern
thinking, as it takes a wider view of things in two ways: (1) By offering a spiritual sense of
things, it goes beyond thought and takes into account supernatural sources of knowledge,
sources which are both a one-time event (the Resurrection of Jesus Christ) and part of the
ongoing journey of the Christian community; (2) By boldly referring to traditional, outmoded
language, as with the words obedience and humility, with the same level of reverence and
fullness of their sense as they were used before the secular-feminist era condemned these
virtues. The strange and unique qualities of John Paul II's thinking issues from these two
practices. It also arises from his bold ability to engage with modern thought without becoming
defensive and without hiding behind the Bible or Catholic piety, though he uses both of these
generously.
John Paul II offers a clear alternative to the chaos and confusion of post-Enlightenment
thought, in both his thought's style and substance. The Holy Father's words cause us to reflect
more deeply than those of modern or postmodern thinkers, and call us away from the
relativism of Richard Rorty, Foucault, and so many others. The pope's thought succeeds in
part because he takes a much wider vista of things, in that he digs more deeply into Western
and Christian thought and that he enters this heritage as an inheritor rather than as a skeptical
scientist-researcher as in Foucault's case. The pope's thought also succeeds because he assigns
spiritual meaning to this journey of Christian and world people. In this sense, his thought is

This dissertation is a report on how Tom Lanoye, a contemporary Flemish
author who explores themes of social relevance, deconstructs the sexual
identity of his characters within the context of a postmodernist culture. The
manifestation of this deconstruction process is described within those
theoretical paradigms of Michel Foucault and Judith Butler that link sexual
identity and social mores. For the purpose of this research Tom Lanoye‘s
‘Monster’ Trilogy was selected. Set against the backdrop of Belgium society
during the late nineties of the twentieth century and highlighting the moral
downfall of the Deschryver patriarchy, Lanoye’s novels address an assortment
of contemporary gender and social political issues in his trilogy. These include
the following: political corruption; incest; homosexuality; racism; the sexual
abuse of minors; the relation between language and identity, volatile childrenparent
relationships; the subversion of gender norms and sexual
transformation. / In hierdie verhandeling word verslag gedoen van die wyse waarop Tom
Lanoye as hedendaagse eksponent van die Vlaamse versetprosa die seksuele
identiteit van sy karakters binne die konteks van 'n postmodernistiese

This thesis examines works written about imprisonment by
four South African political prison writers who were incarcerated
for political reasons. My Introduction focuses on current
research and literature available on the subject of political
prison-writing and it justifies the study to be undertaken.
Chapter One examines the National Party's policy pertaining to
the holding of political prisoners and discusses the work of
Michel Foucault on the subject of imprisonment as well as the
connection he makes between knowledge and power. This chapter
also considers the factors that motivate a prisoner to write.
Bearing in mind Foucault's findings, Chapters Two to Five
undertake detailed studies of La Guma's The Stone Country, Dennis
Brutus's Letters to Martha, Hugh Lewin's Bandiet and Breyten
Breytenbach's The True Confessions of an Albino Terrorist,
respectively. Particular emphasis is placed on the reaction of
these writers against a repressive government. In addition,
Chapters Two to Five reflect on the way in which imprisonment
affected them from a psychological point of view, and on the
manner in which they were, paradoxically, empowered by their
prison experience. Chapters Four and Five also consider capital
punishment and Lewin and Breytenbach's response to living in a
hanging jail. I contemplate briefly the works of Frantz Fanon in
the conclusion in order to elaborate on the reasons for the
failure of the system of apartheid and the policy of political

Wilson explores the old and the new black identities from three significant issues of migration, slavery, and the blues respectively in the play. In order to further explicate the playwright’s arguments on the black subject, Stuart Hall’s idea of postmodern identity serves as a major premise: the subject is composed not of a single, unitary, but of several identities at the same time. Stuart Hall’s idea about cultural identity and diaspora, Paul Gilroy’s elaboration on diaspora, slavery, and black music, Michel Foucault’s theory of counter-memory and the concept of history, and Frantz Fanon’s postcolonial argument are applied to the reading of The Piano Lesson.
The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One provides a general introduction to the playwright, the play, and the theoretical framework. Chapter Two deals with the issue of black diasporic identity, which is demonstrated in black migration. Boy Willie’s final decision to return home in the South distinguishes him from those who stay in the North. Chapter Three centers on the discussion of black racial identity by scrutinizing the meaning and function of the piano and the ghosts. Boy Willie’s fighting with the white ghost foregrounds Wilson’s concern over black autonomy. Chapter Four explores the relationship between the blues and cultural identity. Berniece’s invocation to her ancestors through playing the piano helps her connect with the past and gain a positive image of self-recognition. Chapter Five is the conclusion which sums up the manifestation of Wilson’s construction of new black identities in the play.

Die historischen Ursprünge dieses selbstreferenziellen Verständnisses gehen nicht zuletzt auf Descartes' Verankerung der Selbstgewissheit des "Ich" im eigenen Denken zurück und finden in Kants Verortung der Bedingungen der Möglichkeit von Erkenntnis im apriorischen Denkapparat eine paradigmatische Begründung. Seit der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts erfährt der emphatische Subjektbegriff eine Kritik und wird dezentriert. Insbesondere feministische und postkoloniale Kritiken verweisen auf die inhärente Gewaltsamkeit von Subjektivierungsweisen und deren Begründungen in sexistischen und rassistischen Klassifikationen.
