Pozorování a modelování klasických Be hvězd / Observations and modeling of classical Be stars

Klement, Robert January 2017 (has links)
The brightness and proximity of many classical Be stars makes them perfect laboratories for studying the physics of astrophysical disks. They are also among the most popular targets for optical/IR interferometers, which are able to fully resolve their circumstellar disks, to which much of the recent progress in our understanding of these enigmatic objects is owed. The current consensus is that classical Be stars eject material from the stellar surface into Keplerian orbits, thus forming a disk, whose subsequent evolution is governed by turbulent viscosity, which is the basis of the so-called viscous decretion disk (VDD) model. Among the main results of the present work is arguably the best-constrained model of a particular Be star β CMi. The VDD predictions were confronted also with radio observations, which allowed for the first determination of the physical extent of a Be disk. This result subsequently led to the detection of a binary companion, which is truncating the disk by tidal forces. Extending the sample to include five more targets led to revealing a similar outer disk structure in all of them. The range of explanations includes the most plausible scenario, in which the truncation of Be disks by (unseen) companions is much more common than previously thought.

(LORCA, 2004, p. 571) / This text is about encounter experiences. Meeting with a research perspective in Education, meeting with non-binarity of gender, meeting with people who differ from gender binary, meeting with difference. All these meetings - and still others - produced this research that stirs in the questions of gender and Education and that launches to the breaking of binarismos. Of the questions that I put together in this text I highlight one that crosses all others: how have experiences in non-binarity of gender moved other experiences? I use poststructuralist theoretical-methodological flaps, poetic flaps by Federico García Lorca and narrative flaps to form this quilt. The narratives were produced through conversations with three people who do not fix their identities as female or male, but try to deterritorialize this binary. I have talked to each person two or three times, and their stories have made them the co-authors of this text and research - to narrate it during these conversations was also a (re)invention of our own gender differences. I observe and explore some crossings between the narratives and the readings of authors of the field of Gender and Education: the identification of a matrix of binary gender produced by diverse spaces and institutions and that will provoke strong subjections; the attempts to break with such a matrix from bodily, aesthetic, and moral dimensions; and the relations (harmonious or uncomfortable) constituted from this break with himself and with the world. research that vibrated in me seams of destabilization, provocations and questions, much more than certainties: "I would leave this book in my soul ..." "Such a thing to waste words on" : Genus, sexualitet och Beloved i Robin Hobbs The Realm of the Elderlings

Hallgren Sanderson, Julia January 2018 (has links)
In fantasy literature, representations of gender and sexuality outside of the heteronormative binary have historically been limited. Although queer fantasy is on the rise, depictions of non-conformational identities are still rare and far in-between. This thesis seeks to examine one of the earlier fantasy representations of a queer character, the non-binary Beloved in Robin Hobbs fantasy series The Realm of the Elderlings in terms of gender and sexuality. Throughout the series, Beloved assumes different identities of various genders and sexual orientations, and continuously claims that these are all equally true and valid representations of themselves, although these are distinctly separated by ways of, often gendered, physical attributes. Therefore, a central part of this thesis will be to examine how these shifts between genders and sexual identities are established performatively, something I will do with the support of Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity as it is presented in Gender Trouble. While the text ultimately lends itself to a reading in Beloved’s favour, they are often othered and met with scorn from other characters of the series, something that is quite central to their characterization. Consequently, this thesis will also investigate these reactions and the often heteronormative and conservative stances they demonstrate, and, most notably, how these reactions mirror exterior societal attitudes and change in accordance with these.

Intergeschlechtlichkeit im Spannungsfeld von (Wissens)Konstruktionen der Kategorisierung Geschlecht, Menschenrechten und politischer Bewegung

Holtmann, Inken 09 August 2022 (has links)
Discourses about gender binary form the basis for the social interaction with intersex on the levels of medicine, law, politics and in large parts of science. Inter*persons and their organizations have long criticized the resulting discrimination and pathologies. In addition, committees of the European Union, as the Ethics Council, remind Germany repeatedly for the legal and medical dealing with inter*persons. The German government announced in its coalition agreement of 2018 a ban on non-consensual operations on intersex minors. In January 2019, it introduced a third optional civil status divers for intersex persons on the basis of a decision of the Federal Constitutional Court. The present thesis investigates the discrepancies between modes of thinking and acting that underlie the hegemonic gender discourse, discourses of gender diversity, and the attitudes and demands of the inter*movements. In addition, the interactions of the disciplines of medicine, law, politics and science are worked out. For this purpose, laws, anti-discrimination guidelines, medical science theories and approaches as well as approaches from psychology, education and consulting work are examined. (Post) identity and alliance policies and aspects of biopolitics are analyzed in the context of adaptation and resistance. Furthermore, it includes the interweaving of structural forms of discrimination. Participatory intersectional research approaches are presented in the context of intersex. The aim of the paper is to work out which options for thought and action can encourage discourses of gender diversity in future, and how demands of inter*movements as well as human rights, antipathologizing and anti-discriminatory aspects can be considered.

Geschlechterdispositiv

Jäckle, Monika 26 April 2017 (has links) (PDF)

Plesz, Rebecca 08 1900 (has links)
In this master thesis, we aim to understand the experience of individuals who identify with non-binary gender identity through a sociological, constructivist and interactionist perspective. We position non-binary gender identity inside the binary gender system, thus to better understand the reality of these individuals with the use of the literature. This research links the concepts of "self-presentation" and "social support" in order to reach its goal. This qualitative work mobilizes six semi-directed interviews with people who self-identify as gender non-binary. An analysis of this issue reveals five main themes useful to understand the experience of non-binary people. The results show that gender identity is constructed through an identification process inevitably affected by binary gender norms, based on informational support and the presence of social representation. This identification makes it possible to answer a questioning generally present since childhood and is constructed through an opposition between an internalization of the binary gender system and a desire to criticize it. There are also individual variations in self-presentation, in terms of language and embodiment, despite a norm of androgyny associated with gender non-binarity. A self-presentation that is pleasant to the individual is linked to a feeling of well-being and would have an impact on one's relationship to the world. It is, in fact, influenced by the degree of perceived support and has a variety of objectives, this identity always being intrinsically political. In addition, the level of perceived social support varies across social circles, thus influencing proximity and comfort in relationships. Education and awareness of gender non-binarity are ultimately described as relevant to filling a gap in the general understanding of this identity, influencing the experience of non-binary people.

From Snow White to Frozen : An evaluation of popular gender representation indicators applied to Disney’s princess films / Från Snövit till Frost : En utvärdering av populära könsrepresentations-indikatorer tillämpade på Disneys prinsessfilmer

Nyh, Johan January 2015 (has links)
Simple content analysis methods, such as the Bechdel test and measuring percentage of female talk time or characters, have seen a surge of attention from mainstream media and in social media the last couple of years. Underlying assumptions are generally shared with the gender role socialization model and consequently, an importance is stated, due to a high degree to which impressions from media shape in particular young children’s identification processes. For young girls, the Disney Princesses franchise (with Frozen included) stands out as the number one player commercially as well as in customer awareness. The vertical lineup of Disney princesses spans from the passive and domestic working Snow White in 1937 to independent and super-power wielding princess Elsa in 2013, which makes the line of films an optimal test subject in evaluating above-mentioned simple content analysis methods. As a control, a meta-study has been conducted on previous academic studies on the same range of films. The sampled research, within fields spanning from qualitative content analysis and semiotics to coded content analysis, all come to the same conclusions regarding the general changes over time in representations of female characters. The objective of this thesis is to answer whether or not there is a correlation between these changes and those indicated by the simple content analysis methods, i.e. whether or not the simple popular methods are in general coherence with the more intricate academic methods. /
Betyg VG (skala IG-VG)
