The aim of this study was to examine discourses of two terror attacks conducted in Ankara and Paris and how they were represented in Swedish news media. By analysing the identified discourses the study investigated if the discourses constructed subjects as “we” and “otherness”, which means this study’s aim was to uncover ideological representations. The study examines a total of 16 articles. Critical discourse analysis constitutes the study’s methodological framework, combined with Michel Foucault’s perspective on discourse and how they regulate the construction of reality. The results show that the postcolonial discourse is reproduced and constructs “us” as a western society, whereas Turkey is not included and is therefore constructed as “the other”. The representations in Swedish news media regarding the reporting of the attacks in Paris offer identification for the reader, meanwhile Turkey is marginalized and constructed negatively as a country.

Vilka syns i public services artiklar om en av Sveriges mest (ö)kända förorter? Hur skildras de, och har detta något att göra med hur invandrare behandlats utifrån ett postkolonialt perspektiv? Genom att göra en kvantitativ innehållsanalys och sedan en framinganalys på sju utvalda artiklar från de första 15 veckorna år 2017 ska denna studie ta reda på vem som får uttala sig om det omdiskuterade Järvaområdet. Resultatet av innehållsanalysen blev tre diagram som visar hur vita myndighetsmän och politiker dominerar i samtalen kring Järva.   Textanalysen visar att rättsväsendet ofta målas upp som en viktig del för att åtgärda problemen i området. Artiklarna nämner problem i områden generellt, men utan en närmare definition för vilka problem som syftas på eller vilka som drabbas utav dem. Lösningen enligt framingmetodens uppdelning av artikeln är alltid fler poliser eller bättre resurser för rättsväsendet. Även om ord som kan ge läsaren postkoloniala kopplingar inte används av artikelns skribent i brödtexten kan de förekomma i citat som skribenten valt att lyfta fram. Eftersom framingteorin menar att artikeln målar upp en ram för mottagaren att ta del av innebär även ordval som citeras från någon annan som en stor del av hur mottagaren uppfattar artikeln.   Slutsatsen är därför att SVT och SR som redaktioner inte medvetet tycks reproducera postkoloniala bilder av förorten, men att detta ändå blir effekten av en ojämn representation där vita män får tala för den socioekonomiskt svaga invandraren som något som ska lösas eller åtgärdas. Effekten av detta kan bli att läsaren ser på dessa personer som problem i samhället, vilket kan öka stigmatiseringen kring förorter som de i Järvaområdet.

Mot bakgrund av den svenska skolans värdegrund och i syfte att främja en inkluderande bildundervisning behandlar denna uppsats bildlärares bildbruk ur ett postkolonialt perspektiv. För att ta reda på huruvida bilder som inkluderas i den samtida bildundervisningen reproducerar koloniala synsätt undersöks vilka bilder dagens bildlärare använder sig av i sin undervisning samt hur rasifierade människor framställs i dessa bilder. I undersökningen appliceras kritisk diskursanalys och visuell metodik på bildmaterial insamlat av sju yrkesverksamma bildlärare för att synliggöra koloniala och imperialistiska maktstrukturer. Då undersökningen vilar på en socialkonstruktionistisk grund analyseras även de sociala konsekvenser som bildmaterialets framträdande diskurser kan generera i skolan som institution. Resultatet av analysen visar att de bildlärare som bidragit till studien främst använder sig av bilder skapade av vita västerlänningar där också vita människor figurerar. Analysen visar även att den visuella representationen av rasifierade människor är begränsad och att den i vissa fall verkar emot den svenska skolans värdegrund genom att reproducera koloniala diskurser. Undersökningen ligger även till grund för ett gestaltande arbete som består av en ABC-bok där varje bokstav representerar olika sätt som det koloniala och imperialistiska arvet tar sig uttryck i en modern svensk kontext. Gestaltningen är inte bara en kommentar på resultatet av undersökningen utan även ett medel för att förflytta den postkoloniala diskursen från en akademisk till en mer allmän kontext.

Syftet med detta arbete är att bidra till en ökad förståelse om hur normer som etnicitet ochhudfärg framställs i barnlitteratur och hur det påverkas ur ett postkolonialt perspektiv.Detta analyseras utifrån en innehållsanalys. Detta undersöktes genom att 13 kapitelböckerför barn i åldern 6–9 år som är utgivna under 2016 slumpades fram från cirka 290 titlaroch analyserades genom ett analysschema bestående av fyra frågor. Dessa fyrs frågoranvändes sedan för att svara på de tre frågeställningarna som studien har. Resultatenvisade på att det nästan alltid är vita, svenska karaktärer representerade i barnlitteraturenoch att de flesta författare kommer från Sverige.

The theme of this qualitative bachelor thesis in social work is racial profiling. We have chosen to highlight a specific case in the news media which became heavily debated and sparked discussions whether or not racial profiling is used and applied by Swedish security guards, creating different discourses in various newspaper articles. The thesis has investigated which discourses have been prevalent in news media and what different values and opinions they have voiced using discourse analysis and postcolonial theory. Our findings show that the discourses have mainly considered the side of the security guards in general and that most articles reporting about the events where neutral or siding with the security guards. Some articles where siding with the alleged victim of racial profiling, mainly the debate articles, calling the event a clear example of racism and racial profiling. We also found that many of the articles described the alleged victim with lacking details both about her as a person and the event itself. Our conclusions are that the discourses about the event may suggest that some racist structures can be found among them. Especially regarding the discourses surrounding the alleged victim.

This essay examines how local literature from the region of Västerbotten in Sweden can be used in the teaching of values in the Swedish upper secondary school. A postcolonial perspective is used in an analysis of three novels and two short stories from the region. The works in focus of this analysis is The Tar Still(1953) by Sara Lidman,The march of the musicians(1978) by P O Enquist, Hash(2002) by Torgny Lindgren and two short stories from Beasts and Other Stories (2015) by Stina Stoor.The analysis focuses on how the construction of center and periphery is constructed in these stories. Then it is discussed how the concept of center and periphery can be used in the teaching of values. The result shows that the use of language, the attitude towards different geographical places and the constant negotiations of power in relationships, are areas where these novels and short stories relates to a postcolonial writing tradition. The values system in the Swedish school contains writings about cultural identity and democratic values that can be addressed through teaching local literature using a postcolonial perspective. These themes are to be found at different levels in these stories, in the stylistics as well as in the plot. The essay uses theories by Louise Rosenblatt, Martha Nussbaum and Gunilla Molloy to discuss the possibilities with this sort of literary teaching. Representation and a broadening of literary experiences is discussed as two of the foremost advantages with this type of local literary teaching.

This literature analysis aims to explore the colonial heritage of textbooks meant for teaching music in Swedish grade schools. The books analysed were released between 1969 and 2018 and range from pure songbooks, pure textbooks to teacher guides. With the tools from critical discourse analyses combined with the postcolonial theory this study explores how the textbooks group and portray individuals with a special focus on the supposed reader as opposed to “the others”. The results show that “we” in the Swedish music textbook is a western white person who has prior knowledge of western religious and cultural expressions. This study also shows that pictures and text combined attribute negative traits to the “other” individuals portrayed. Western music theory is often portrayed as general and serve to define the “we” group with its necessary prior knowledge. This study also shows that texts that are neutral or positive in tone still use language that place individuals in the “we” and “them” groups.

Etablering av gruvdrift centreras ofta kring vad som ska prioriteras av rennäring och mineralresurser då båda är klassade som riksintressen enligt lag. Med hänsyn till historisk exploatering av Sápmi är den pågående debatten om en eventuell gruvetablering i Kallak, Jokkmokk, intressant att studera utifrån ett postkolonialt perspektiv. Studien syftar till att synliggöra eventuella postkoloniala tendenser i relationen mellan tre aktörer med intressen i kallakprojektet. De tre aktörerna som studeras innefattar staten, gruvbolaget Beowulf Mining och samerna. Syftet har besvarats genom en utförd framinganalys av aktörernas mening i gruvetableringen. Resultatet ger sken för aktörernas differentierade meningar i den eventuella gruvetableringen. Med hänsyn till en kolonial historia, tyder resultatet på att inramningarna delvis ger uttryck för spår av kolonialt ärvda maktstrukturer.
