L’expression féminine dans les romans d’Anne Brontë / Feminine Expression in Anne Brontë’s Novels

Sadkaoui, Nourchen 14 September 2012 (has links)
Anne Brontë makes use of her talents as a novelist in view of exploring the realm of the feminine. This work proposes to study the different manifestations and usages of feminine expression in her novels. To start with, her first novel is to be read as an example of a feminine Bildungsroman describing the journey of formation, of maturity and fulfillment of the heroine who evolves from a passive, silent and shy young woman to a self-confident and eloquent wife, mother, educator and writer. The second chapter explores the metaphor of embedding in relation to the second novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The chapter examines the different levels of discourse overlapping in the narrative structure in order to illustrate the complex relationships between the sexes in the model of patriarchal society the novel presents. The third and last chapter studies the creative identity attributes of the heroine. Her ingenuity manifests itself in her writings, her paintings, her educational skills and her empathy, not only allowing her to survive and create in a hostile environment but also her close friends to benefit from her personal experience. A review of the studies on the author shows that the theme of feminine expression has not received much critical attention. This thesis, presenting new paths of research, offers a synthetic vision of the question.

Écriture du corps et féminismes : genre, sexualité et maternité dans l’oeuvre narrative à la première personne de Dacia Maraini / Feminisms and writing the body : gender, sexuality and motherhood in Dacia Maraini's first-person narrative works

Carton-Vincent, Alison 20 June 2013 (has links)
With the rise of neo-feminism in Italy in the end of the 1960's, a new literary genre quickly developed: the feminist novel. The first-person narrative was frequently used to portray women who fought against an oppressing patriarchal society from which they tried to get free. From her first works, Dacia Maraini followed this narrative style. She provided its most famous examples (especially in Donna in guerra, in 1975) and she guaranteed its propagation – even after the end of activist feminism in the 1980's – through works that were not as ideologically engaged as the first ones but that still aimed at denouncing inequalities. Halfway between literary creation and political commitment, the first person feminist narrative of Dacia Maraini particularly focuses on the topic of the body, as a link between one and the others, between the personal and the political. I will study the 1962-2001 period, and I will show how the author concentrates on the territories of gender, sexuality and motherhood and how she questions them through fiction and autobiographical stories. I choose a multidisciplinary perspective that takes the tools of both literary analysis and the history of ideas, in order to analyse the use of the first person as a specific enunciative modality and as a performative instrument for the propagation of Marainian feminism in a circular relationship between arts and society, between culture and power.

[fr] DESTINS DE L EXCÈS AU FÉMININ / [pt] DESTINOS DO EXCESSO NO FEMININO

NATASHA BERDITCHEVSKY OTERO DE FREITAS 07 March 2014 (has links)

[en] FROM A LIMITED UNIVERSE TO THE INFINITE SPACES: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LAW AND JOUISSANCE IN PSYCHOANALYSIS / [pt] DE UM UNIVERSO LIMITADO AOS ESPAÇOS INFINITOS: AS RELAÇÕES ENTRE LEI E GOZO NA PSICANÁLISE

PAULA ISSBERNER LEGEY 24 September 2014 (has links)
[en] From a limited universe to the infinite spaces studies the relationship between law and jouissance from a Lacanian perspective. Lacan indicates that the desire is the other side of the law, while, the jouissance is a field that is not limited by the law. Lacan underlines the importance of the Name-of-the-father as a signifier that validates the law. It functions as a mediation, intervening in the imaginary dual relationship represented by the mother and the child. Through this Lacan associated law and desire, indicating that the desire does not exist prior to the law, but is created by it. The term jouissance allows Lacan to indicate a form of satisfaction that does not obey the logic of the desire, which means that it is not structured by the limitation drawn by the law. This dissertation studies the relationship between the desire and the several ways within which the jouissance appears in the Lacanian theory. The feminine jouissance is defined by Lacan as a jouissance that is Other in relation to the organization of the law and the desire. It is a infinite field, which means that it is not limited. This work also studies how the jouissance can be organized when not by the limitation of the law.

Les blogs personnels de mode en tant que nouvelles technologies de genre : Construction/déconstruction de l’éthos féminin / Personal fashion blogs as new gender technologies : Construction / deconstruction of the feminine ethos

Irimescu, Alexandra 06 July 2017 (has links)
Nowadays, the blog actively mobilizes social and technological transformations that are characteristic for the Western society. As such, it encompasses two directions: a counter- hegemonic one, dismissing the monopoly of gender models and of information production, and an identity-related one, aspiring to the promise of unaltered self-expressionin the public sphere. This study aims to contribute to the body of research about the online manifestation of gender expressivism. Personal fashion blogs are analyzed as a form of cultural intervention, an emergent discourse, and a space of affirmation for contra-audiences, as well as a new gender technology, that facilitates the redefinition of contemporary femininity. The purpose is to explore how women represent themselves, how they relate to their social context, their gendered status, and how they communicate their intentions. To this end, I depart from the premise that their interventions in the digital space are enacted as agents seeking to validate new forms of feminine sociality. The corpus is built on an exploratory analysis revealing the fragmentation characterizing personal fashion blogs. Although this is a pioneering work, it does not treat superficially the investigated phenomena. Beyond the analysis, it emphasizes the future shifts of personal fashion blogs, in synergy with Internet developments. The blogosphere has constituted a rich source of qualitative data, which has allowed a methodological triangulation: an online ethnographical observation, a discourse analysis centering on the notion of ethos and a visual analysis. I selected and analyzed a varied repertoire of the contemporary feminine ethos (physical, disruptive, professional and familial), which demonstrates that in this media there is a trend to detach oneself from dominant model of femininity. By employing a cross-national corpus of fashion blogs, owned by women, I have identified the traits of the dominant fashion blog – presenting what it appears to be a consensual view on femininity, in partnership with the fashion industry - but also a series of counterhegemonic positionings. This research signals the transition from an imaginary femininity towards a feminine identity which materializes in close relationship with social status. In this shift of perspective resides our interest in a practice which grants access to self-representation.The study suggests defining personal fashion blogs as new gender technologies. It starts with a generic analysis of fashion blogs by circumscribing various scenographies based on which a series of visual sub-categories can be distinguished. Thus, I introduce an original typology of personal fashion blogs: male gaze, hedonistic practices, critical stance and social activism. On the one hand, personal fashion blogs neutralize the social context through the continuous activation of the feminine masquerade and by claiming a monolithic feminine identity, the blog becomes an instrument of participative alienation. On the other hand, through the deconstruction of the feminine masquerade, by building online diasporic communities, and shifting between identities, personal fashion blogs become an instrument of soft power, a place of resistance that establishes women’s representations as something achieved by them, not imposed upon them. An inter-disciplinary approach has made possible the analysis of this syncretic object of study, which is the result of digital technologies, but also of existing social transformations / of evolving gender relations.

Construction(s) du féminin dans l’anorexie de l’adolescente : - Apport de la clinique projective (Rorschach et T.A.T.) de patientes souffrant d’anorexie-restrictive et d’anorexie-boulimie / Feminine identity construction(s) in adolescent girls with anorexia : contribution of projective techniques (Rorschach and TAT) for patients with restrictive anorexia and anorexia with bulimia

Gaspari, Maïte 07 March 2011 (has links)
This paper attempts to go further into female teen anorexia from the perspective of a projective methodology. It brings particularly to light the presence of a blurred frontier of the Ego and an insufficient expansion of pregenital conflicts which affects the construction of the feminine and facilitates resorting to a narcissistic phallic type of defense which helps avoid the experience of separation as much as that of dependency. This paper brings further to light a particular handling of seduction fantasies marked by a reversal of hysterical construction, insufficient repression and the impossibility to invest a passive position. This leads to a specific real life experience marked by an exacerbation of persecution anxiety which seem to be linked to both the insufficiently secured nature of instinctive excitation and the difficulty to regulate it. From its differential approach, this paper also highlights a better efficiency of narcissist defense in those female patients presenting a restrictive profile compared with those presenting anorexia-bulimia stigmas where porosity of envelopes and difficulty of handling drive are more apparent. However, the issues raised appear to be similar. This research paper brings brings further highlight to the cleavage process phenomenon in the Ego leading of anorectic patients to two distinctive types of psychic adjustments which expresses itself either on a persecution mode or adhesive one. This in turn has an influence on the type of psychic structures in female teens which turn out to be independent from symptomatic forms while they may at the same time correspond to two different stages of the illness.

Fattitude The Movie: Theory and Praxis of Creating a Documentary that Examines Fat Representation and Fat Social Justice

Unknown Date (has links)
This dissertation explores the making of and research for the film, Fattitude, a social justice based documentary that looks to awaken viewers to the reality of weight bias in media representation. This dissertation reviews the filmmaking process and then engages with the nature of stereotypes about fat bodies. Deeply tied to feminist and fat studies theory, the work here seeks to categorize and shape the understanding of weight bias in the media by linking fat tropes to clearly understood images of oppression, for example the monstrous, the fool, they hypersexual and the asexual. The work also seeks to present theory on the nature of creating media representations of fatness that are not oppressive – making note of current media created by grassroots movements for body acceptance and fat positivity. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2017. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Traduction et écriture féminine : de Madame de Lafayette à Sibilla Aleramo, Renata Debenedetti et Rosetta Loy (à propos de La Princesse de Clèves) / Translation and women's writing : from Madame de Lafayette to Sibilla Aleramo, Renata Debenedetti and Rosetta Loy (about The Princess of Cleves)

Brizzi, Dominique 29 October 2015 (has links)
Three Italian translations of The Princess of Cleves, made in Italy in the twentieth century by women who marked in various ways the Italian literary life of their time, are the starting point of our analysis: Sibilla Aleramo’s in 1933, Renata Debenedetti’s in 1988 and then Rosetta Loy’s in 1999. The evolution of the historical and sociocultural context as well as the different status of these three women allow us to study the variation of production constraints and reception conditions of these translations. The choice of some extracts from Madame de Lafayette’s novel consents to highlight the main features of the text and understand the translation problems that this arises. This novel, the first in modern European literature written by a woman and published anonymously, continues to question and fascinate women writers many centuries later. The relationship between women's writing and translation is then questioned. Subsequently, the relationship between translation’s choices and their personality of writers and intellectuals leads to the study of their works whose recurring stylistic and thematic characteristics evoke the notion of “feminine writing”.

Literatura e representação social das mulheres em Cabo Verde: vencendo barreiras / Literature and social representation of the women in Cape Verde: overcoming barriers

Queiroz, Sonia Maria Alves de 27 October 2010 (has links)
This dissertation analyses comparatively Cape Verdean texts of masculine and feminine authorship by the light of the subject Literature and social representation of the women in Cape Verde, with the objective to demonstrate how they build the historicity of women in that context, based on the approach gender and a hermeneutics of everyday women. Given the above, the readings have focused on female characters of the narratives, especially the protagonists in order to follow their paths of objects to historical subjects taking into account the complexity of the phenomenon of female emancipation in Cape Verde and coming a little late, but decisive , productions of women in the literary canon. We demonstrate in our research, such as male literary writings of António Aurélio Gonçalves, Baltasar Lopes, Manuel Ferreira, Oswaldo Osório Pires Teobaldo Virgínio and Virgílio Pires learns and presents women\'s realities, especially through the exhibition, while the female literary writings of Camila Mont-Rond, Dina Salústio, Fátima Bettencourt, Ivone Aída and Maria Margarida Mascarenhas and reveal female subjectivities that cast new visions and new cuts that dialogue the universe represented by the male perspective.
