Lavada “Dr. Hepcat” Durst was the first African American popular music disc jockey in Texas. His radio program The Rosewood Ramble was broadcast on Austin station KVET-1300 AM from 1948 until 1963. KVET’s white owners, who included future Texas politicians John Connally and J. J. “Jake” Pickle, were not outspoken advocates for the rights of African Americans under Jim Crow, but they hired Durst in a concentrated effort to expand KVET’s African American listening audience. The Rosewood Ramble became a cultural, economic, and psychological resource for black radio listeners in segregated central Texas while also becoming the region’s most popular radio show among white listeners. This paper uses a mixture of oral history and archival sources to argue that Durst’s fifteen-year career at KVET was only the best-known part of a lifetime spent as an information broker to Austin’s embattled black community. / text

This essay attempts to listen to meaning in the borderland, and asks in between which faculties and senses, through which we see and/or listen to the world, do we seek sense? My writing is located on this border, or more precisely on the erased border that I call an interspace or an interval, the place where we look for sense in the relation between language, philosophy, politics, and music. I have done this through the reading of three contemporary philosophers: Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Angela Davis. Derrida and Nancy have provided me with a theoretical and philosophical background for my approach to Davis’s philosophic and political claims. My analysis sets out from Derrida’s différance and what it reveals in the sign system of language. This is continued through a discussion of Nancy’s question: Is philosophy capable of listening, in all senses of the word? Is the philosopher not someone who always hears? In my reading, this connection is established through the blue notes. Davis, finally, provides me with a support for my claim that we, in the political significance of blues, in the traces of meaning that it contains, might be able to listen to Derrida’s différance. This interdisciplinary study devised a Blues Methodology to investigate how a historically marginalized Black community conceives, practices and theorizes about citizenship in community-based pedagogical spaces (Douglas & Peck, 2013). Guiding questions were 1) How does a historically marginalized Black community conceive and practice citizenship? 2) How does the community’s conception and citizenship praxis compare to the dominant society’s conception? And 3) How can both conceptions inform citizenship education and citizenship research? To conduct this qualitative cultural study, I extended Clyde Woods’ Blues Epistemology and Sylvia Wynter’s theoretical construct of alterity into a methodology capable of illuminating the community’s culturally indigenous knowledge (ways of knowing) using cultural tools meaningful to them. Blues Methodology is a community-based inquiry approach employing a reflective researcher strategy that positions researcher in dialogue with community members to uncover culturally indigenous ways of knowing as well as hegemonic perspectives and community agency. The historically marginalized Black community of focus is located in “The South” where inhumane violence was routinely practiced against Africans and African Americans during and after enslavement. Terrorism was particularly brutal due to the intense labor required by the agrarian economy. Marginalization is a lasting legacy of enslavement, Jim Crow and structurally other forms of embedded racism. Twelve long term multigenerational community residents ranging in age from 17 to 80 years old, participated in this study. Two types of data were collected: oral and written. Oral data were collected from conversations and interviews with participants, written introspective data were collected from journaling. Researcher reflections also consisted of conversations with fictional characters who were constructed to protect my relationship with community participants and present childhood experiences that informed the research. Findings reveal that community conceptions of citizenship foster belonging and identity. Citizens theorized about their social economic historical political selves in the context of the local landscape. In contrast, the dominant society’s citizenship conception is an inclusion/exclusion dialectic that generically defines citizens selectively while excluding swaths of the U.S. population from curricula thus devaluing certain students and communities and relegating their knowledge to the margins at the expense of human freedom.

Tiriamųjų grupę sudarė pagimdžiusios moterys, gulinčios po gimdymo Vš.Į. Ukmergės ligoninės akušerijos skyriuje ir Kauno Vš.Į. 2-os klinikinės ligoninės filialo P.Mažylio gimdymo namuose. Siekiant nustatyti psichologinės adaptacijos ir socialinių, demografinių bei sveikatos veiksnių sąsajas pogimdyminiu laikotarpiu buvo naudoti šie klausimynai: „Savęs vertinimo klausimynas po gimdymo“, „Edinburgo pogimdyminės depresijos skalė“, „Spilbergerio C. D. Nerimo skalė“. Demografiniams, socialiniams ir sveikatos veiksniams nustatyti buvo naudojami Ž. Jankauskienės ir tyrimo autorės sudaryti klausimai. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The task of this study – to determine correlations between psychological adaptation, socio-demographic and health factors during postnatal period. The group of 200 women participated in this study. The group consisted of women after childbearing in Ukmergė hospital midwifery department and Kaunas 2nd hospital chapter, P.Mažylis midwifery house. Determining the correlations between psychological adaptation, socio-demographic and health factors was done by using The Postpartum self-evaluation questionnaire, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and Spielberger C.D. Stait Trait Anxiety Scale. Socio-demographic and health factors were determined using the questionnaire developed by Ž. Jankauskienė and the author of this study. The results of this study showed that psychological adaptation of women during the postnatal period is correlative with demographic factors: older, married and having a high school education women, living in bigger towns show better psychological adaptation. A better psychological adaptation is also correlated with having a job, children, bigger income, planned childbearing, help of the partner and healthy habits. The results of this study also shoved that complications during pregnancy correlate with poorer psychological adaptation during postnatal period. L’objet d’étude de ce mémoire est le roman Volkswagen Blues de l’écrivain Jacques Poulin, sous une perspective analytique à partir des théories et notions qui intéressent la littérature postmoderne du Québec, comme la déterritorialisation, les déplacements, le métissage racial, culturel et littéraire, l’intertextualité, l’altérité et la quête identitaire dans le contexte dans lequel l’oeuvre s’insère. Ce travail est constitué de trois chapitres. Dans le premier chapitre, nous présentons un paranoma historique, social et littéraire de la production fictionnelle du Québec des années 1960 aux années 1980 dans lequel nous mettons en évidence quelques événements produits dans cette société et présents dans la production littéraire qui passe à s’exprimer, dès cette période, surtout à travers les identités plurielles. Au deuxième chapitre, à la lumière de divers théoriciens québécois, nous présentons quelques figures liées au thème du voyage, telles que le déplacement et The American Dream, et nous apportons aussi des points qui concernent l’intertextualité utilisée dans le roman pour raconter l’Histoire de l’Amérique. Finalement, le troisième chapitre est consacré au thème de l’altérité, soulignant des hétérogénéités culturelles diverses par la figure du métis et de l’androgyne. No segundo capítulo, à luz de diversos teóricos quebequenses, apresentamos algumas figuras relacionadas ao tema da viagem, tais como déplacement e The Americam Dream, além de trazer alguns pontos que envolvem a intertextualidade utilizada no romance para recontar a História da América. Ottosson, B. & Skog, S. Åtgärder för att symtomlindra depression eller nedstämdhet hos äldre - en litteraturstudie. Examensarbete i omvårdnad 15 högskolepoäng. Malmö universitet: Fakulteten för hälsa och samhälle, institutionen för vårdvetenskap, 2020.Bakgrund: Många äldre lider av nedstämdhet, vilket kan vara ett tecken på depression. Det anses ofta inte som något att söka vård för då det till stor del räknas som en naturlig del av åldrandet. De symtom på nedstämdhet som ignoreras då är: ökad oro, känsla av hopplöshet, sömnsvårigheter, minskad aptit och viktminskning.Metod: En litteraturstudie med 10 kvantitativa artiklar, artiklarna delades in i fyra kategorier som de sedan presenterades genom. Nivån av symtom mättes med Geriatric depression scale (GDS).Syfte: Målet med den här litteraturstudien var att undersöka och beskriva åtgärder som kan användas för att lindra depressionssymtom eller nedstämdhet hos äldre.Resultat: Alla studier hade inte signifikanta sänkningar av GDS i slutet av studien men alla hade det under tiden studien pågick. Den minsta sänkningen av GDS var 4,34 % med minnesterapi (Wang 2005) och den högsta sänkningen var efter interventionen med konst då GDS minskade med 66 % (Ching-Teng M.fl. 2019).Konklusion: Det sammanfattade resultatet visade att alla interventioner gav bra resultat under tiden studien varade. It is not often considered something to seek care for as it is largely regarded as a natural part of aging. The symptoms of depression that are then ignored are: increased anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, insomnia, decreased appetite and weight loss.Method: A literature review of 10 quantitative articles, the articles were selected into 4 different categories and then presented through these. Symptoms were measured with the geriatric depression scale (GDS).Aim: The main purpose of this literature study was to investigate and describe what measures that can be used to prevent or alleviate depression symptoms or the blues in the elderly.Results: All the studies did not have significant reductions of GDS at the end of the study but they all had it during the study. The smallest reduction of GDS was 4.34 % with reminiscence therapy (Wang 2005) and the highest decrease was after the intervention with art when GDS decreased by 66 % (Ching-Teng M.fl. 2019).Conclusion: The summarized results showed that all interventions produced good results during the study.
