By the comics content analysis, this research will offer as suggestions on how comics can be used as historical sources to study an specific age or period as support or reference to stimulate thinking about the origins of the anachronisms found in the stereotypes and other popular images traditionally associated to past cultures. This research intends to identify which are the main difficulties, challenges or even limitations avoiding a better and more constant use of the comics as a tool to teach History. / O projeto propõe estabelecer um suporte teórico e metodológico para a utilização das HQs no ensino da História pelos professores de História que trabalham no ciclo 2 do ensino fundamental e no ensino médio. Através da análise do conteúdo das HQs, esta pesquisa fornecerá sugestões práticas de como as HQs tanto podem ser usadas como fonte documental para o estudo de determinada época quanto podem ser material de apoio para promover em sala de aula reflexões sobre a gênese dos anacronismos encontrados nas representações de culturas do passado. Pretende identificar avanços e também as principais dificuldades, obstáculos ou mesmo limites que ainda impedem um uso mais freqüente ou proveitoso desse recurso no ensino de História.

Contudo, no campo das artes cênicas, são raros os trabalhos que abordem o ofício do ator na cena cômica sem restringirem-se a formas, gêneros ou estéticas específicas. Diante disso, esta pesquisa busca investigar possibilidades de construção ou potencialização dos efeitos risíveis no trabalho do ator dentro de uma cena cômica através dos gestos. Para isso, são tomados como referencial teórico os pensamentos do filósofo francês Henri Bergson a respeito do riso. A partir dos estudos do pensador e de sua teoria do mecânico colado no vivo, traçam-se paralelos com as reflexões de encenadores como Stanislavski, Burnier e Dario Fo, encontrando neles aproximações com a prática teatral. A partir daí, observa-se no gesto do ator a possibilidade da utilização das reflexões bergsonianas na cena cômica. Do ponto de vista metodológico, são analisadas duas oficinas realizadas com os atores-alunos dos cursos de graduação em Interpretação da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) e de Licenciatura em Teatro do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (IFCE). Estas incursões práticas foram estruturadas a partir de exercícios criados pelas relações entre as ideias de Bergson e a prática teatral. Por meio delas, analisam-se as implicações que a utilização do gesto trouxe à prática destes atores-alunos nas oficinas e suas possíveis contribuições para a cena cômica. / For a long time, laugh has been the subject of reflection for many theorists and philosophers. However, on the performing arts, there are few studies about the actor in the comic scene without restricting itself to forms, genders or specific esthetics. Thus, this research investigates possibilities of building or potentiation of the laughable effects in the actor’s work into a comic scene. For this reason, takes as reference the French philosopher Henri Bergson’s thoughts about laugh. Based on this studies and his theory of mechanical pasted in live, draws parallels with the reflections of directors as Stanislavski, Burnier e Dario Fo, finding it approaches to the theatrical practice. Thereafter, observes the gesture of the actos as a possibility of using the Bergson’s reflections in comic scene. From the methodological view, analyzes two workshops with actors-students of undergraduate courses in Interpreting of Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) and the pedagogy of theater of Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (IFCE). These practices were structured from exercises created by the relationships between Bergson’s ideas and theater practical. Through them, analyzes the implications that gesture bring to the practical of these actors-students in the workshops and their possible contributions to the comic scene.

De 1954 à 1976, l'œuvre de Quino paraît essentiellement dans la presse argentine. Très vite, l'humoriste est reconnu de la profession et rejoint les pages de quelques-uns des plus grands périodiques d'humour et d'actualité de l'époque. S'adaptant à différentes lignes éditoriales, il explore plusieurs courants comiques, du burlesque à l'absurde, en passant par la satire d'une société en crise. Le rythme de publication soutenu et la variété des formes employées par l'humoriste – strip, planche et dessin unique – sont propices à l'élaboration d'une poétique de la brièveté. L'œuvre de Quino se construit dans une dynamique de répétition et de variation qui revisite la tradition du dessin humoristique de presse et thématise les conditions de sa création / From 1954 to 1976, Quino's work is essentially published in argentinian press. The humorist is very soon acknowledged by his profession and joins the pages of some of the most important journals and magazines of humor and information at this time. Adapting his creation to different editorial lines, he explores several forms of comic, from slapstick to absurdity, and even the satirizing of a society in crisis. His intense rhythm of publication and the diversity of forms used by the humorist – strip, page and cartoon – are favorable to elaborate a poetics of briefness. Quino's work is elaborated in a dynamics of repetition and variation which revisits graphic humor tradition and thematizes the conditions of his creation. / De 1954 a 1976, la obra de Quino se publica principalmente en la prensa argentina. Muy pronto, el humorista recibe el reconocimiento de los profesionales del humor y accede a las páginas de algunos de los periódicos y revistas de humor y de actualidad más importantes de la época. Al adaptarse a diversas líneas editoriales, explora varias formas de comicidad, del burlesco al absurdo, pasando por la sátira de una sociedad en crisis. El ritmo de publicación intenso y la diversidad de formas empleadas por el humorista – tira, página y dibujo único – son propicios para elaborar una poética de la brevedad. This report aims to present the work process behind a degree project at Mälardalen University, in cooperation with Volvo CE, Eskilstuna. The report aims to examine how a machine maintenance device can be presented. The purpose of the report is to anchor the understanding between action and results. Based on literature studies,analyzes and tests done with the target group, two prototypes have been developed to show how different subjects can be presented. The prototypes are created in a visual comic-like manner that emphasize the person behind the work. At the same time a comparison between two different ways of working and its results is clarified. / Denna rapport ämnar presentera den arbetsprocess som står bakom ett examensarbete på Mälardalens Högskola, i samarbete med Volvo CE, Eskilstuna.Rapporten ämnar behandla hur ett material om förunderhåll av maskiner kan presenteras. Rapportens syfte är att förankra förståelsen mellan handling och resultat. Utifrån litteraturstudier, analyser och tester med målgruppen har två prototyper framtagits för att påvisa hur olika ämnen inom förunderhåll kan presenteras. Prototyperna är skapade i ett serie-manér som framhäver människan bakom arbetet. Detta samtidigt som en jämförelse mellan två olika arbetssätt och dess resultat tydliggörs.

Slightly Quixotic: Comic Strategies, Sexual Role Stereotyping and the Functionalization of Femininity in David Lodge's Trilogy of Campus Novels under Special Consideration of 'Nice Work' (1988)

In view of the fact that David Lodge’s campus novels are renowned for their ability to make light of traditional gender stereotypes as well as for their purportedly liberal, pro-feminist, intertexual, dialogical and metatextual dimensions, this article seeks to explore more precisely the strategic and unavowedly political functions humour and the comic fulfil in Changing Places, Small World and Nice Work. What will be demonstrated is that Lodge’s light-hearted, tolerant and at times even progressive liberalism is little more than an effect produced by the textual surface structure. In the case of Nice Work, this discrepancy between the surface and the deep structure leads to the paradox that while voyeuristic structures and male bonding are overtly ridiculed, on a deep structural level they are effectively reaffirmed. Though Lodge’s novels are at the level of their surface structure sustained by a logic which uses the “comic mode” as a more or less subtle form to critique traditional gender stereotypes, literary conventions, the British university system and British industry, ultimately his ‘Rummidge trilogy’ reinforces an aesthetically, morally and politically conservative subtext.

Japanese Boy-Love Manga and the Global Fandom: A Case Study of Chinese Female Readers

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Boy-love (or BL) manga (comic book) is a subgenre of Japanese girl’s manga. It features the homoerotic relationships between beautiful young boys and is popular among young straight women. This thesis explores the transnational influence of BL manga on young women and examines how Chinese female readers perceive and interpret this cultural artifact. An online survey has been conducted to answer key questions including: Who consumes BL productions in Chinese-speaking communities, how is BL fandom formed and what are the patterns of such fandom. Outcomes indicate women enjoy the queer fantasy deriving from reading BL manga and such fantasy should not be stigmatized or pathologized.

Följande kunskapsöversikt ämnar att undersöka effekten serietidningsliknande läsmaterial har på läsförståelsen hos andraspråksinlärare av Engelska. För att undersöka detta formulerades följande forskningsfråga: I vilken mån kan serietidningsliknande material påverka läsförståelsen hon andraspråksinlärare av Engelska? En prototypisk definition av serietidningar (Mayer, 2007) användes för att tillåta denna kunskapsöversikt att använda både studier som använde serietidningar och studier som använde seriestrippar som läsmaterial. I denna kunskapsöversikt kommer därför termen serietidningsliknande läsmaterial (Comic reading materials) användas som en paraplyterm för de två mediumen. För att granska om serietidningsliknande material kan påverka läsförståelsen för andraspråksinlärare i engelska har nio vetenskapliga artiklar som behandlar ämnet valts ut. Studierna I denna kunskapsöversikt har delats upp beroende på om de använder seriestrippar eller serietidningar/grafiska noveller då dessa två material bör åkalla effekten av de kognitiva teorier som presenteras i studien. Studierna gav inte ett tyligt svar på huruvida läsmaterialen påverkade läsförståelsen bland deras deltagare. Studierna hade även olika definitioner av nyckelord så som läsförståelse, skilda metoder för att mäta läsförståelse samt variation i hur de utförde texter tester. De olika resultaten från studierna har lett till följande slutsatser. Serieliknande läsmaterial har en potential som läromedel då de kan främja läsförståelse trots att det i fallet av de valda studierna inte alltid gör det. Det behövs vidare forskning i ämnet, då definitioner av nyckelbegrepp samt tester varierar i hög grad och detta gör det svårt att dra en tydlig slutsats.
