Svart och vitt i svensk nyhetsrapportering efter katastrofen i New Orleans

Johansson, Helena, Spång, Jenny January 2006 (has links)

Bilici, Seyma January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how some social workers in Sweden describe the social work with unaccompanied children. Emphasis was on the role of culture in social work with the unaccompanied children. I wanted to examine how the social workers describe their view on social work with unaccompanied. I also wanted to examine how the social workers describe their view at their own and the unaccompanied children’s cultural backgrounds influence on the social work with the unaccompanied. The study is based on qualitative interviews with four social workers. The empirical material was analysed based on the theories ethnocentrism and symbolic interactionism. The results of the study shows that both the social workers and the unaccompanied children’s cultural background effects social work. The social workers cultural background has a particular effect on the meetings with the unaccompanied children. The social workers capacity to fully understand the unaccompanied clients is limited for cultural factors.

Refigurando monstros: a perspectiva parcial de Donna Haraway como crítica da ciência / Refiguring monsters: a partial perspective Donna Haraway as a critique of science

Marília Rodrigues da Silva 29 May 2009 (has links)
This dissertation abords the power relations that mark the modern occidental scientific production from the point of view of the Gender and Science studies of the north-american feminist and historian of science Donna Haraway. The author proposes a conception of all the knowledge production as a political practice, assuming a partial perspective as a fundament to an objective science and pointing the objectivity perspective based on the idea of impartiality as a producer of a type of knowledge that historically served as an instrument of domination: the knowledge that proposes itself as universal. In her narrative, the androcentrism, ethnocentrism, racism and the class divisions operate on the conformation and the transformations of this science from the construction of a knowledge privileged persona, the scientist, character developed from the image and similarity of an independent western white man. My extract of the book is the reformulations of these relationships along with the modern western science observed by the author in the emerging and in the productions of a specific group of disciplines in the field of biological natural science, which were strongly marked by the theory and technology of information and communication produced in the cybernetic science. In the construction of a critic discussion about the hegemonic nowerpowers, Haraway brings monstrous characters to light, among them a cyborg, as much as a way to revel cultural categories acting in the knowledge production as to materialize new meanings to the nature, bodies and the differences relationships. Compromised with these monsters, human figures and non-human redefined in her narratives, the author defends a relationship of connection, and not of division, between the subject and the object of knowledge.

Min musik, min kultur : En kvalitativ studie om musiklärares syn på mångkulturellt lärande / My music, my culture : A qualitative study of music teachers views on multicultural learning

Frick-Spejare, Simon January 2022 (has links)
This study has aimed to contribute to the learning and understanding of how music teachers interpret and teach the concept of multiculturalism. Music teacher have the task of teaching to promote students’ understanding of different musical cultures, while their teaching is increasingly rooted in Western musical traditions. Through a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews, ten music teachers participated in the study. The material has been processed, coded, categorized, and linked to the concepts of intercultural learning, ethnocentrism and ethnomusicology. The study suggests that multiculturalism interpretation is based on the concepts ethnicity and identity. In this study, music teachers emphasize the value of working with multiculturalism and underline that the meeting between different cultures is central. However, the study shows that music teachers witness a lack of knowledge for more thorough teaching. Working with multiculturalism, can contribute to a greater understanding of different cultures and increased social cohesion. But this requires more learning, about how music teachers can interpret and work with multiculturalism in their teaching. One conclusion of the study is that music teachers know why they should teach about multiculturalism and what the teaching should include – but how they can teach multiculturalism is still uncertain.

"This is, and will be, one of New Zealand's darkest days" : En kvalitativ gestaltningsanalys av moskéattackerna i Christchurch 2019 / "This is, and will be, one of New Zealand's darkest days" : A qualitative framing analysis of the mosque attacks in Christchurch 2019

Sabo, Emelie January 2019 (has links)
The 15th of March 2019, the city of Christchurch in New Zealand was exposed to two mosque attacks that left at least 50 people killed and many people wounded. The attacks were described as a terrorist attack performed by a 28-year-old Australian man with right-wing extremist views. The two mosque attacks were broadcast live by the perpetrator on his social media accounts. By using a qualitative text analysis, the author has studied the reports of the attacks of three news channels, CNN, RT English and al- Jazeera English, with a selection of nine articles. The study has investigated the description and the framing of the mosque attacks by each news channel. With the aid of a framing analysis, the author was able to identify which frames that has occurred in the reports by CNN, RT English and al-Jazeera English. The aim of the study was to study the framing of the mosque attacks by the news channels with different culture valuations and whether there were any similarities or differences in their descriptions of the attacks. The result of the analysis could show that there were both similarities and differences in the reports of the news channels. CNN and al-Jazeera English used the affective and attributive framework and RT English used the descriptive framework in their reports of the mosque attacks.

Johnsson, Sonja, Thurfjell, Klara January 2008 (has links)

The purpose of the essay is to examine how issues concerning gender equality are perceived and to show what areas are defined as problematic in different discourses. It also raises the question of who is defined as responsible for dealing with issues concerning gender equality in these different contexts. Theories used are the gender system and intersectionality. The study builds on a mapping of a company that is active nationally and internationally, with emphasis on the problems that can arise when these two social contexts meet, with a special focus on cathegories such as gender and “Swedishness”. The material was first gathered through the use of questionnaires and interviews, then analysed through discourse analysis. The analysis shows that discourses of gender equality can be seen as constructed and dependent on the context, problems concerning equality are defined in one way nationally and in another way internationally. In cases of sexual harassment internationally the informants often choose to look the other way and feel like it is difficult to bring the “Swedish” values concerning equality abroad. It is more common to adapt to the ways of international colleagues but the informants also find it important to point out that they don’t necessarily agree with these.
/

Baitar, Rami, Carlsson, Hanna January 2008 (has links)

The purpose of this study was to examine the laws, govern documents and guiding principals that are available for schools and their work regarding the work against discrimination, insulting and other forms of harassments, and then to form a method for the schools to implement this work in practice.

The work to counteract discrimination, insult treatment and other forms of harassments should be done both in a short term and a long term. In this paper there is a presentation of a project, a set of lessons that was created and carried out as a trial. The project aims for conscious making among children and students in school regarding norm, deviation, discrimination and power and the fact that equal treatment is hard to achieve. The basic purpose behind the project is to offer a tool to schools and teachers so that they can decrease the possible gap between the laws and the practice of these laws by creating awareness among students and other teachers. The long term work for achieving equal treatment should be done on a political level. But at the same time one must learn to discuss the fact that there are and always will be power orders in school and all of society.
