Lybeck, Klara January 2023 (has links)
The brutal massacre of Nanking occurred in 1937 by Japanese forces and killed civilians, men women and children. Women were raped and tortured, and Chinese men had to bury each other alive. Considering the Nanking massacre apologies rendered towards the Chinese government and civilians after 1945 from for instance prime ministers of Japan but dissatisfaction has been expressed by the Chinese government and occurred by protests all over China. At the same time as apologies have been rendered towards the Chinese government and civilians, denial of the Nanking massacre has been shown in different scenarios and forms that have made the relationship between the two states, China and Japan increasingly strained and denials of the massacre has been shown in different ways. A qualitative content analysis combined with a case study of the increasingly strained relationship and denials will be the methods for this essay to find reasons, happenings and statements. From the perspective of classical realism, this essay discovers that economic growth, a feeling of seclusion in Japan and threats regarding power and growth in Asia both military and of growth at markets combined with a shifting strategy from the statesman, Xi Jinping could be reasons for Japan to make up denials of the massacre of Nanking and also reasons for the increasingly strained relationship.

Shaiar-Ziwa, Alsaleem January 2024 (has links)
The Swedish arms export has been criticized and heavily covered by the media for many years. The criticism that has often been highlighted concerns an outrage that Sweden exports weapons to autocratic countries. The Swedish arms export has been developing through the years which has led to Sweden being one of the largest arms exports in the world. This has contributed to Sweden gaining a very special position in the world of arms export, where Sweden is a sought-after actor. This study examines why Sweden chooses to export weapons to Saudi Arabia, which is an autocratically ranked country. The investigation is conducted from the perspective of realism. The study aims to provide detailed explanations based on different perspectives within the theoretical framework of realism such as international anarchism, national interest, self interest and balance of power about why Sweden has extensive arms exports to Saudi Arabia. The study shows that even though the Swedish arms export to Saudi Arabia is a paradox with the Swedish ideal, it is inevitable and must be carried out primarily because Sweden, like every nation in the world, must fight for its security and survival.

Åldersskillnader i äktenskap och jämställdhet : En global analys

Lindström, Oskar, Möller-Nielsen, Hanna January 2015 (has links)

The aim of this research paper was to examine and understand how Russia contributed to be exacerbating the situation in Syria, leading it from peaceful protests demanding freedom, justice, and a better social and economic life, to a devastating civil war that took and displaced the lives of millions around the world. It seeks to answer why Russia chose to militarily engage in the conflict that began on March 15, 2011. The thesis explores Russian´s methodology in exerting influence and navigating global power structures becomes apparent. The theoretical framework includes realism to analyze Russian´s intentions, with elements of self-interest, balance of power, and security dilemma. Additionally, social constructivism is used to illustrate how identities and norms influenced the course of events.    In conclusion, the thesis determines that Russia viewed the crisis as an opportunity to benefit its own interests and increase its power. There are many other significant geopolitical actors, including the USA, China, Turkey, and Iran, that have a history of utilizing international crises to advance their own strategic goals. Despite the actions of these countries, the focus remains on Russia.
