Metacontingência, dilema do prisioneiro e cooperação: efeitos da interação verbal e da forma de apresentação da consequência cultural / Metacontingency, prisoners dilemma, and cooperation: effects of verbal interaction and form of cultural consequence presentation

Angelo Augusto Silva Sampaio 13 June 2016 (has links)
In a metacontingency, responses of two or more interacting individuals (a culturant) produce stimuli (called cultural consequences) that affect the recurrence of those responses. Results of metacontingency experiments are said to demonstrate a kind of cultural selection. Besides suggesting the importance of verbal interactions between participants, some of these experiments have used tasks based on the iterated prisoner\'s dilemma (IPD) interpreting it, however, as programming only operant contingencies. Experiment 1 examined whether an IPD with 200-plus trials would produce simultaneous cooperative choices reliably and whether verbal interaction between participants would increase cooperation. 4 quartets of undergraduate and graduate students used 4 networked computers (without visual contact), and were exposed to conditions with or without permission to use the computer chat room in a multiple baseline design between quartets. Results clearly demonstrate that unanimous cooperative choices can occur reliably in an IPD, and that verbal interaction between participants rapidly increases such choices. These results highlight the similarity between IPD and metacontingencies studies, both of which program consequences for inter-related behaviors of many individuals. In Experiment 2, a cultural consequence was superimposed on the consequences already programmed by the IPD: quartets could produce equal points for all participants (market feedback) contingent on different numbers of cooperative choices. As in Experiment 1, we arranged conditions in which chat use were or not allowed in a multiple baseline design between quartets. Verbal interaction quickly and markedly promoted cultural selection by the market feedback. One quartet presented some control of culturants by the market feedback before verbal interactions, but production of cultural consequences increased substantially after using the chat. Experiment 3 replicated Experiment 2 presenting the market feedback the same way that the IPD points, i.e., without several verbal stimuli that suggest its production by the quartet as a whole. Verbal interaction promoted at least some control of the choices by the market feedback in 2 of the 3 quartets, suggesting that the form of cultural consequence presentation is irrelevant for the effects of a cultural consequence. The results of the three experiments highlight the importance of verbal interaction for cultural selection. Furthermore, they suggest that an IPD program a situation analogous to the one employed in metacontingency studies, clarifying differences between procedures used in the study of IPD and of metacontingencies, and allowing advances in one area be employed by another

Moral över lag : beslutsfattande dilemman / Moral before law : decision making dilemmas

Adiléus, Jim, Johansson, Martin January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this paper has been to reach a greater understanding in how moral inflicts social workers way of handling everyday situations. In what way, if in any way, moral comes to play a part in the making of decisions. In order to reach this understanding we have interviewed two different groups of social workers which we also later on came to compare . One of the groups contained six interviewees and the other group contained five interviewees. Both of these groups were in the ages between 27 – 52.To shed some light over this phenomenon did we use two theoretical perspectives, first Kant’s morale theory and second, consequentialistic utilitarism theory. As a result from the interviews we’ve made, we came to an understanding that the meaning of morale and in what way it can be applied in the everyday work differs between these two professional groups. One of the greater conclusions we came to make, is that one key role is the differences between both work environments, both on a social and a structural level.

Landberg, Caroline, Bodin, Isabelle January 2010 (has links)
Youth centres- A qualitative study of how midwives relate to the potential ethical dilemma between youths right to integrity and parents right to information The aim of this study was to investigate how midwives at youth centres relate to the potential ethical dilemma between parents’ right to information that young people between 15-17 years share at the centre, vs. youths right to integrity. The study was based on qualitative interviews with six midwives in various youth centres in Stockholm County. We analysed our empirical material according to Blennbergers consequential ethical model and Bronfenbrenners ecological system model. The empirical data was categorized based on categories of information and integrity in relation to midwives' opinions and actions. The results show that midwives are careful to protect the integrity of young people and that parents’ right to information are neglected, unless there is a great risk that the youths will harm their lives or health. Often it is only when the midwives need to report to the social service that the parents are given right to information, which indicates that the ethical decisions that midwives make are based on their beliefs that the best consequence for the youths is for their integrity to be protected. It was revealed that the midwives experienced the decision as difficult, and sometimes even found it to be a dilemma.

Interindividuelle Unterschiede der Impulsivität und Impulskontrolle / Eine fMRT- Studie / Interindividual differences in the neural mechanisms underlying impulsivity and self-control / An fMRI study

Nerenberg, Lesly 08 April 2013 (has links)

Dilemata v sociální práci - analýza kvalifikačních prací Jihočeské univerzity / The dilemmas in social work - an analysis of qualification theses at the University of South Bohemia

VONDRÁŠKOVÁ, Blanka January 2013 (has links)
The thesis analyses the importance and mutual relationship of the human and the professi-onal quality of social workers in their decision making concerning professional dilemmas as they are interpreted in a sample of qualification theses of the University of South Bohemia. The first four chapters deal mainly with the theoretical explanation of ethical dilemmas in social work, their origin, categories, as well as with the possible solutions of ethical dilemmas published in literature. The following parts focus on selected qualification theses and their analysis. The majority of the theses emphasizes the professionalism of a social worker above all, mainly the significance of professional ethics, ethical theories and ethical code in dealing with ethical dilemmas. Nevertheless, none of them omits the role of personal (human) qualities involved in decision making, even though each stresses their importance to a different extent. In conclusion, the attention paid to personal (human) qua-lities on the one hand and professional qualities on the other hand is disproportionate in the analysed qualification theses.

A religious child or a child of religious parents? : An analysis of the circumcision debate in Sweden

Eriksson, Emilia January 2012 (has links)
This thesis set out to study the debate on circumcision of boys in Sweden. The study concerns itself with how categories and positions become rhetorical resources in the debate and how categories andpositions thus are made relevant. In order to get at what is made possible through the use of theserhetorical recourses this study has analyzed debate articles, official Swedish governmental documentsand the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Three interpretativerepertoires surfaced as distinct in this material and they are; Religious identity and belonging, medicine and the UNCRC. The analysis will therefore be structured and guided by these repertoires. As the debate is centred around the Human Rights Paradigm there is an ingrained ideological dilemmain the debate that can be explained as the tension between a Universal and a Cultural relativisticinterpretation of Human Rights. This tension will be discussed throughout the study. Severalconclusions can be drawn from the analysis: The various and contradictory positions allowed for bythe use of the UNCRC makes it an elusive tool in both theory and practice. The ideological dilemmatends to coerce the participants into opposing positions and even question the rhetorical tools utilizedin the debate. The child surfaces in various categories and at the end of this thesis the question remain; Is it a religious child or is it a child of religious parents?

Chování států v oblasti militarizace vesmíru: spolupráce vs. soupeření / Actors' behaviour and the militarization of space: Cooperation vs. conflict

Gréková, Lenka January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with the question of militarization and weaponization of the outer space and it analyse the actor's behaviour regarding space militarization and weaponization. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the key actors cooperate or not in dealing with the use of the outer space. The relations between the key actors are analysed from the perspective of the game theory, particularly with the two models of behaviour: prisoner's dilemma and the tragedy of the commons. These models are used based on the assumption that they best describe the relations between actors in international relations as either cooperative or competitive. The aim is to evaluate whether these two models are valid in researching the behaviour of the key actors in the question of militarization of space. The analysed actors are the United States, Russia and China, as these are the three most important and successful space-faring nations with the biggest potential in the future of space exploration. Analysing their relations, the thesis attempts to evaluate whether the two models of the game theory are valid or not. For evaluating the prisoner's dilemma, bilateral relations are analysed, for the tragedy of the commons, their multilateral relations are analysed. What we learn from the analysis is that both models...

Cyber-vettings etiska dilemma i rekryteringsprocesser : En komparativ fallstudie mellan yngre och äldre rekryterares syn på fenomenet / Cyber-vettings ethical dilemma in recruitment processes : A comparative case study between younger and older recruiters' view of the phenomenon

Fatrous, Alain, Scherling, William January 2023 (has links)
Background: Recruitment errors are a recurring business problem, with organizations facing costly consequences when they occur. There are various methods for avoiding recruitment mistakes and thus a phenomenon called cyber-vetting has gained more attention, whereby recruiters review candidates' social media profiles to gain a better understanding of the candidates. Cyber-vetting poses an ethical dilemma, with some arguing that it is unethical to go into people's private sphere, while others argue that it is necessary for the employer to get a complete picture of the candidates applying.  Purpose: The aim is to describe younger and older recruiters' views on cyber-vetting and their ethical stance, and to compare possible similarities and differences.  Method: The study has had an inductive approach. To describe younger and older recruiters' views on the phenomenon, a qualitative comparative case study has been conducted, where the collection method has been semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis has been conducted based on qualitative empirical data. As the study is comparative, two separate thematic analyses were conducted, one for younger and one for older people.  Conclusion: The study concludes that there are both similarities and differences between younger and older recruiters in both the use of cyber-vetting and whether or not they find it ethically correct. Internal conflicts with moral reasoning underlie their opinion on the matter and involve more factors than just the fact that the recruiter is of a certain age.

To promote safe and healthy self-determination : A qualitative study of dilemmas between care and self-determination experienced of staffs at group housing and service housing for persons with functional impairments

Almquist Pessoa, Hanna, Gorab, Ione January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate how staffs at group housing and service housing manage dilemmas between nursing and self-determination. Experiences of dilemmas, how they manage these dilemmas and factors that determined their actions were explored. The data were collected through six semi-structured interviews with staffs in group housing and service housing and was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The result showed that the staff face many dilemmas, and their management of these situations is always based on self-determination. Communication was also a significant part of how they manage the dilemmas. Furthermore, the study showed that staffs deal with dilemmas based on their own intention - to promote self-determination and nursing. Their actions are based on what they can do morally and organizationally as well as the patients’ actions.
