This degree work in textile design explores how curtains can be designed to become interactive through textile prints and laser cutting. The work places itself within the field of surface pattern design. The aim was to explore interactive textile prints using perspective as a design variable when designing surface patterns for curtains. The aesthetics of traditional Swedish folk art motifs and colour were an inspiration in the design of the prints. The methods used were a combination of textile transfer printing and laser cutting. The result of this project is a collection of three printed textiles that feature laser cutting and etching in different ways. Through human interaction the textiles can be altered in different ways. It is possible to change the textile and adapt it to seasons, trends and personal preferences. The project aims to offer an alternative approach to sustainable textiles by providing people with possibility to change their interor textiles without needing to consume more products.

The purpose of this essay was to study how people could react to the changes of the society and modernization during the 1800s. The study is based on a qualitative method and the material for this study has been letters that belong to a peasantry family from Sunne, Värmland in Sweden. The purpose with this case studie has been to find out what the letter says about peoples experiences and conditions during the modernization. In this studie the theory of modernization has been limited to geographical mobility and individualism in purpose to see how the correspondent writes about these modern phenomenon. The results show a collectivistic character, but also how the modernization and geographical mobility challenge this concept. The letters also show a interaction between the  character of the peasant society and modernization.

I mitt examensarbete utforskar jag allmogestilen i Skåne och för samman den med nordisk badkultur. Allmogestilen utgör ett betydande kulturellt och designmässigt arv som riskerar att försvinna på grund av bristen på tillräcklig restaurering av allmogemöbler och till och med olaglig export. Med inspiration från nordisk badkultur där aktiviteter såsom kallbad, rökbastu och dricka brunn är centralt omtolkar jag det moderna spat. Den reducerade estetiken som i vanliga fall associeras till den här typen av rum ersätts med den kraftfullt ornamenterade allmogestilen. Allmoge kan vara både en lyxartikel och något vardagligt, beroende på hur det används och värderas. Syftet för mitt examensarbete är att belysa allmogestilen genom att använda dess stilistiska element som inspirationskällor och genom interiören berätta en historia, i sann allmogeanda.Dessutom utforskar jag allmogestilens och ornamentikens förmåga att kommunicera budskap och historia genom materiella objekt.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the court narratives of serious crimes in the district courts of Jämtland-Härjedalen in the latter half of 17th century. This is done by studying the negotiated aspects of criminal court proceedings; how did stories of crime, guilt and character come together in the records to form narratives that became accepted truths by the local community and the authorities? Investigations of serious crime have been sampled from the collected records of five district courts in the period 1649–1700. These records have been analysed by identifying the different actors and voices of the narratives, the social stratification of the participants, their speech acts and how they were depicted by the court and by other participants. The analysis of the social stratification of accusers, defendants and witnesses shows evidence of a deeply hierarchical and patriarchal society: men and women of lower social status were not only grossly overrepresented as defendants in criminal investigations, they were also mostly excluded from participating as a witness. The inverse could be said about local elites and landed peasantry. Women were more often accused of crime, and while they were allowed to testify as witnesses, they were less so than men. The negotiation of the truth took place in three parallel and intersecting spheres of discourse, differing in what kind of questions were asked and what problems were being discussed between different categories of participants. The nature of crime was negotiated when accusers, defendants and witnesses debated the presented narratives; the accepted narrative of the crime was found by the assessment of the honesty of the individual participants, by considering their reputation and standing in the local community. While the word of the law was unrelenting and impossible to legally negotiate at the district court level, a kind of negotiation was done by the local community and sometimes also the district court taking the side of the defendant, pleading and petitioning the Royal High Court to find mercy for the convicted criminal.

I uppsatsen läggs ett intersektionellt perspektiv på konsthistorien. Det sker genom en belysning av det sydsvenska bonadsmåleriets undanskymda plats i allmänhet och de kvinnliga bonadsmålarnas osynliga roll i synnerhet. Uppsatsen består av fyra kapitel. I det första studerar jag den svenska konsthistorieskrivningen i tre historiografiska undersökningar: först en narrativ, sedan en kvantitativ och sist en komparativ diskussion av några historiografiska verk. Min huvudsakliga slutsats är att klassanalys lyser med sin frånvaro, ordet klass och framför allt arbetarklass nämns förhållandevis sällan. Genusstrukturer analyseras i varierande grad och på olika sätt medan etnicitet mest omnämns som en kanoniserad uteslutning. I det andra kapitlet introduceras först den sydsvenska bonadstraditionen. Därpå presenteras Bengta Persdotter i Hyhult som ett exempel ur den kvinnliga skaran målare. I samband med det görs en möjlig attribuering av en bonad till henne. En historiografisk undersökning av folkkonstbegreppet påvisar hur det skapats av forskare för att särskilja folket från den kulturella eliten. Först betecknade folkkonst det förindustriella bondesamhällets konstnärliga föremål och den lyftes fram i en strävan att profilera en nationell identitet under senare 1800-tal. Under tidigt 1900-tal kom forskarnas attityder att bli nedlåtande. Teorier om ”gesunkenes Kulturgut” och stilretardation myntades för att leva kvar mot seklets slut. Ett begrepp som fortfarande används är ”horror vacui” vilket jag analyserar kritiskt och ger ersättningsförslaget ytmässig bildförtätning. En annan utveckling av begreppet är att det efterhand vidgats till att omfatta konsumtionssamhällets vardagsyttringar i en väldigt bred förståelse. Det får till följd att värderingen relativiseras. Undersökningen visar därtill att folkkonsten försummats av konstvetenskapen. Exempel på forskningens växlande värdering av sydsvenskt bonadsmåleri redogörs. I det tredje kapitlet diskuterar jag först resultatet från första kapitlet i relation till olika texter om konsten i termer av hur kultur och institutioner förhåller sig till främst klass men också kön och etnicitet. Några resultat från rapporter på fältet belyser situationen och tydliggör behovet av att inkludera de sociala kategorierna klass, kön och etnicitet i analyser av ojämlika maktförhållanden i konstvärlden. I det fjärde kapitlet jämför jag några bilder på bönder och adelsmän med avsändare från de olika klasserna adel, borgarklass och allmoge för att föra en diskussion om betydelsen av avsändarperspektiv och identifikation. I min diskussion drar jag några slutsatser om den diskursiva tystnaden kring framförallt klass. I uppsatsen dras linjer mellan olika skeenden i historien och våra dagar för att åskådliggöra samband mellan odlade attityder och dominerande norm i det fält som utgörs av konsten och konstvetenskapen.
