Ondruch, Matěj Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of sheltered housing solutions for people with special needs on the southern edge of the Kociánka complex in Brno. The aim of the work is not only the design of sheltered housing, but also the creation of opportunities for social integration and clients interaction with the public and at the same time the creation of job opportunities, space for recreation, therapy, self-realization or activation. The main element is the interweaving that is reflected in the entire design, whether it is urbanism, architecture or technology.

“LKAB är en drake som ingen vill väcka” : En fallstudieanalys om framställningen av Gabna samebys rättigheter och intressen i svensk riksmedia / “LKAB is a dragon that no one wants to wake” : A case study analysis of the representation of Sami rights and interests in Swedish national media.

Olofsson, Miranda January 2023 (has links)
Exploitation of indigenous lands due to the extraction of natural resources is a global problem, historically and today. This paper will focus on a Swedish context, specifically the mining industry in Kiruna and how the state-owned mining company LKAB with a new discovery of rare earth elements (REE) threatens to exploit the lands of the Sami village of Gabna. Through a critical discourse analysis, the aim is to study to what extent and how Sami rights and interest are presented in the national media, how language in the national discourses can legitimize certain types of actions, and how this in turn can reproduce or challenge unequal power relations between the Sami and the Swedish state. In 13 investigated articles from Aftonbladet, the most dominant discourse is the presentation of the planned extraction as a contribution to the green transition and a solution to the climate crisis, which serves as legitimization of LKAB's actions. This, in combination with the peripheral position of the Sami, reproduce unequal power relations and shows practices of green colonialism as exploitation is legitimized through arguments about a green transition. In conclusion, this is a conflict of interest between the Swedish state and the Sami people, and whether it will follow the course of other colonial patterns remains to be seen.

Småstadens Forum Futurum / Småstadens Forum Futurum

Larsson, Robin January 2018 (has links)
The most important resource is no longer the river, forest or mine - it is information, creativity and knowledge. Larger urban areas has transformed in to bigger cities with global perspectives, cities where we ́ve never before seen as much segregation and class differences. The smaller cities that once transformed Sweden from a poor peripheral nation to a country in the financial and social forefront, has been deprived of the possibility of being part of the knowledge economy. However, in this hierarchical transformation of the society the digitalization is forming a new type of center - an autonomous bomb goes off - and we all become our own center. This project explores the possibilities for a more decentralized society development, when the big cities is unable to deliver the perfect life setting for all. Smaller cities of the periphery is often beautifully situated and offers life qualities and spaces that many are longing for. Though, the last decades have been tough and left a lot of the smaller cities with a scattered and rough context – and a common lack of spaces to meet in. Therefore this project ended up becoming, what I imagine to be a new kind of symbolic building for meetings - that with its form, function and programme should express the new future of the periphery. The ambition is to introduce spaces which could act as a generator of a new time where the small towns get to be part of the knowledge economy, a time where people get to choose their own location of center through the tecnology of today. A future concept allowing the whole of Sweden to become more vibrant, connected to essential functions and filled with life - no matter the amount of people or the physical location of the place.

Bergström, Isabell January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study is to perform a rhetorical analysis of how motherhood is used as a shared platform for rhetorical agency to discuss the deadly violence that occurs in the urban periphery. The object of study is the theater play Mammorna; a drama that is based on interviews with women of a low socio-economic status that lost their sons to violence. Using a close-reading method, this study seeks to investigate how motherhood is used to create rhetorical agency, as well as how the deadly violence in the urban periphery is articulated in the play. Furthermore, this bachelor thesis discusses the complex relation between the narrative created in Mammorna and the story of real-life people, to understand how the play effects the agency of women living in areas that are exposed to criminality and violence. The theory of this work is based on Campbell’s definition of agency as the capacity to act in a way that will be recognized or heeded by others, in addition to Entman’s framing analysis and Alcoff’s perspective on the problem with speaking for others. The conclusion made is that motherhood could be a useful platform to form a shared identity between women of different race and class to stand together against violence – no matter where it occurs.

Knot – A Signature Based Notification System

Jusis, Camilla January 2012 (has links)
The thesis project underlines the importance of designing calm and subtle technologies, by exploring how mobile communicative technologies, such as cell phones, could notify their users about incoming information in a more natural, and non-intrusive manner. The aim of the thesis was to find a way for cell phones to act more appropriately in public and social settings, where they now often are considered intrusive due to their uninhibited manifestations. The thesis provides a theoretical understanding of how normative expectations of cell phone conduct are constituted and maintained within public and social settings. The theories are further grounded in practical work, where the project employ user centered design methods and techniques to, in a collaborative manner, together with users explore the research field to generate insights. Solutions have further been prototyped and evaluated together with users in their everyday settings.Taking inspiration from calm technology, the project looks into how information can be notified, in a more subtle manner in the periphery of the user’s attention. Users’ own priming abilities have been considered as a personal way to recognize the notification and to further associate it as relevant information. As a solution for intrusive cell phones, the thesis proposes Knot; a signature based notification system, which builds on friends’ abilities to recognize each other’s characteristic traits. The system consists of a notification rope, which is a free standing phone accessory that twists and turns, when new information is arriving to the user’s cell phone. It can present whom the information is from by shaping itself into the sender’s representative Knot-signature. If the user can recognize the signature, it will immediately trigger a meaningful association to the person who sent the information. The solution builds upon the restrictiveness between those who can associate a certain signature to a certain person, and those who cannot. For those who have the ability to associate to the signature, its role as a notifier will become meaningful and informative, while for others, who do not share this ability, the signature would be subtle and meaningless, and hence not interfering. The thesis exemplifies how interfaces could provide users with output in a more natural way, by considering users’ previous skills and knowledge, and primarily their priming abilities.

Spatial analysis of development projects in Venda : a case study of the Tshivhase tea estate

Adjei, Alexander 01 1900 (has links)
The research was undertaken to investigate the impact of the Tshivhase Tea Estate on the space economy of Venda, the people and area ofMapate, and Duthuni, among whom the Tea Estate is established. The approach is based on principles. Principles of development theory are combined with appropriate spatial models. The development reality of Venda, together with many other development projects are analysed. Does the tea estate address the rural poverty problem? Findings are presented from a case study of Tshivhase and this proved the lack of growth and development impulses to alleviate the poverty of the rural people among whom it is located. Development is considered in terms of its possible simultaneous diffusion of economic activity and modernisation in all four dimensions of the spatial system : political, socio-cultural, economic and physical. / Department of Geography / M.A. (Geography)

L'aménagement des centres-villes : la mobilité, vecteur et acteur de la centralité urbaine / Core-city planning : mobility as vector and actor in urban centrality / L'acondicionamiento de los centros de las ciudades : la mobilidad, vector y actor de la centralidad urbana

Macario, Mélanie 20 January 2012 (has links)
In this study, core-city planning is compared with the major political, economic, social and religious mutations that have marked the evolution of our society and have gradually transformed the structure and uses of the city. While it was previously organized around a single powerful, unifying and symbolic centre, today as a result of metropolisation the city is structured around several poles of centrality each in accordance with a specific logic and purpose. Faced with these structural changes, the core-city is subject to new forms of appropriation, which challenge its role in the urban system. As the driving force of the city, the core-city does not exist in isolation: on the contrary, it is in constant interaction with its surroundings and so must be apprehended in its globality. Urban planning and development requires understanding the link between this core, which reflects a certain stability due to high urban density, and the rest of the city, characterized on the contrary by generalized mobility. Based on a retrospective analysis, this systemic approach goes counter to the sectoral vision of urban planning laws and is intended to demonstrate the relationship between the failure of both the core-city planning policies and the planning policies of the periphery. At the same time, a government-advocated return to the "compact city" in order to limit urban sprawl and automobile traffic raises a recurring problem in core-city planning: how to reconcile their density with their accessibility

Prostor Zakarpatska v české literatuře / Space of Zakarpattia in the Czech literature

Krabsová, Veronika January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the phenomenon of Carpathian Ruthenia, or Zakarpattia, which is one of the most discussed issues in Czech literature. It expands the traditional view of the issue with a chronological survey of works by Czech authors who were inspired by Carpathian Ruthenia, and maps their writings created from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. It focuses on their interpretation, with particular reference to the topology. The first chapter presents the terminological problems associated with the territory of the Transcarpathian region and briefly summarizes its history. The next chapter submits an account of the exceptional nature of this area (its contrasts, periphery, regionalism, myths, exoticism, idylls and adventures), and attempts to characterize its uniqueness (backwardness, belief in superstitions, Jews, alcoholism, poachers, enchanting countryside and outlaws). Carpathian Ruthenia appears to be a place of secrecy, where hypothetical characters grow. The topology of the mountain is also an important element. The following chapter, the longest, presents most of the works by the Czech authors who were inspired by this region. The first of these authors came to Carpathian Ruthenia during the 1920s as government workers or tourists. Their works are arranged...
