Mattsson, Henric, Pedersen, Louise January 2021 (has links)
Nyckelord: The Big Five, personlighetsegenskaper, normal narcissism, inre motivation, yttre motivation, prestation, avsikten att lämna arbetsplatsen, fastighetsmäklare / Titel: The influence of normal narcissism and personality traits in the profession as a realtor - A hint of the most beneficial characteristic of Swedish realtors Level: Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration Authors: Henric Mattsson and Louise PedersenSupervisor: Dr. Jonas KågströmDate: 2021 - June  Aim: Many realtors choose to quit the profession in the early years, which is a great cost to companies. Normal narcissism has previously been studied as an independent variable to several organizational factors, but few studies exist regarding its impact on motivation. Furthermore, personality traits are often used to explain psychological factors within organizations. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to measure how normal narcissistic traits and personality traits affect motivation, performance and turnover intention on Swedish realtors.  Method: A deductive approach has been applied to the study, where a survey is the chosen data collection method. The data analysis was performed in the statistical program “JASP”, where primarily bivariate correlation analyzes were performed. The population in the study is realtors in Stockholm County.  Result and conclusion: Data were collected from 204 respondents. The results show strong relationships between normal narcissism and all types of motivation. Personality traits, on the other hand, can only explain intrinsic motivation. No correlations were found to either performance or turnover intention. An important conclusion in this study is that normal narcissism is beneficial in the profession as a realtor.  Contribution of the thesis: Theoretically, the study contributes to the fact that normal narcissism has a strong impact on intrinsic- and extrinsic motivation among Swedish realtors. In practice, the study contributes to knowledge that is useful mainly for leaders in the industry, where it is important to let realtors be autonomous and have a chance to evolve in their profession.  Suggestions for future research: Since personality traits appear to be a poor predictor of the dependent variables in this study, other independent variables should be investigated. One suggestion is therefore to examine the culture in the office, and how this affects motivation.  Key words: The Big Five, personality traits, normal narcissism, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, performance, turnover intention, realtor

Gymnasieelevers motivation, kunskapsmässiga och framtida mål i ämnet spanska / High School Students’ Motivation, Knowledge Targets and Future Goals in the Subject of Spanish

Biro, Rebecka January 2023 (has links)
Students’ motivation, knowledge targets and future goals in Spanish are studied based on questionnaires completed by 77 students enrolled in stage 3 and stage 4, as well as interviews with two students in stage 5. The theoretical framework consists of three motivational theories: Self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) with the concepts of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, the socio-educational model (Gardner, 2001) with the concept of integrative motivation and L2 Motivational Self System (Dörnyei, 2009) with the concept of ideal L2 self. The result shows that nearly half of the respondents feel motivated studying Spanish, mainly due to extrinsic motives, such as merit points and grades. Furthermore, about two-thirds aim to travel to Spanish-speaking countries and communicate with target language speakers, which is considered an integrative motivation. About half of the respondents believe that they will speak Spanish well in the future, which indicates a strong future-oriented self-image in their language study.

My anxiety increases when others listen : A study of Foreign Language Anxiety in classes of Spanish as a foreign language in Swedish secondary school

Båverud, Rasmus January 2023 (has links)
This study focuses on language anxiety and its effects within the course of modern languages, or more exact, within the teaching of Spanish in secondary school. The purpose is to investigate in what manner language anxiety affects students, their motivation and relationships in the classroom with other students, and their teacher.  A quantitative method was elected for this study and the use of a questionnaire, compiled of questions from already constructed questionnaires to increase its validity. The questionnaire contained questions regarding Foreign Language Anxiety, namely language anxiety when learning a new language, perceived relationships between students, and their teacher, and also questions about motivation.  A total of 106 students in Swedish secondary school participated in the study, where gender was not a factor taken into consideration. The participants were spread out through various cities, from Uppsala to Gothenburg and were all students that were studying the modern language courses Spanish step 3 and step 4. The results showed that language anxiety and the motivation to not demonstrate incompetence had a significant correlation, and also, that if the level of language anxiety increases, then the perceived relationship of the student towards its teacher decreases. In addition to this, there was also a significant correlation between the type of motivation that is governed by an interest in developing one's knowledge and an increased perceived relationship with the teacher. Finally, there was also a significant correlation between high perceived language anxiety and having to speak without preparation when asked a question by the teacher. The results of this study and its chosen variables showed correlations that good relationships between teacher and students, within the teaching of Spanish, could have a positive effect on language anxiety when learning a new language. Correlations between speaking, or answering, spontaneously in spanish and an elevated level of language anxiety was also discovered. Also, that if students are in an environment in which they are motivated to learn the language in order to develop their knowledge or skills, and not to avoid demonstrating incompetence, it might contribute to increased perceived relationships within the classroom. These findings might possibly lead to further investigations about which exercises that promote the ability to speak spontaneously in the target language and maybe even what creates good relationships within the education of Spanish.

Transaktionellt och transformativt ledarskap : En kvantitativ studie om ledarskapsstilens påverkan på anställdas motivation i arbetet / Transactional and transformative leadership : A quantitative study on the impact of leadership style on employees' work motivation

Feretti, Amanda, Folkesson, Elin January 2023 (has links)
Constant research is being conducted on leadership in relation to other important elements that are included in leadership. Previous studies have investigated the impact of leadership on employee motivation but the results are scattered and despite extensive studies, researchers don't seem to be in a complete agreement. Research has gone from primarily focusing on the leader to also including the consequences of leadership. That is also the purpose with this study, that aims to explain how the transformative and transactional leadership style affects employees motivation and describe in what ways employees in the recruitment- and staffing industry in Sweden are motivated differently depending on gender. The study is based on a quantitative method and hypotheses are designed to answer the study’s research questions. The hypotheses and research questions in the study investigate leadership style and motivation divided into intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The survey is designed in Webbenkäter.com and the statements found in the survey are inspired by the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). In addition to that, the statements are also formulated based on the dimensions within transformative and transactional leadership and the leadership behaviors found within each dimension. The results of the study shows that the behaviors within the transformative leadership has a significant positive impact on both men and women’s motivation, although they are motivated by different dimensions and behaviors within the transformative leadership. The results regarding transactional leadership shows that only two of the three dimensions has a significant positive impact on men and women’s motivation.

Work motivation linked to gender and labor market sector : A quantitative study on intrinsic and extrinsic work motivation

Karlsson, Johanna, Sigfridsson Perea, Isabel January 2024 (has links)
Data samlades in för 130 individer genom självskattningsformuläret Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale (WEIMS) i syfte att undersöka arbetsmotivation. / Motivation has been described as an important factor for well-being and performance at work. Consequently, employers increasingly prioritize understanding and acknowledging the factors that drive employees to work. Previous research indicates variations in work motivation based on gender and the chosen labor market sector. This study aimed to explore differences in work motivation between employees in the private and public sector and between men and women. Based on previous research, four hypotheses were formulated and suggested that there were differences in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic work motivation linked to both the respective sector and gender. Data were collected for 130 individuals through the self-report questionnaire Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale (WEIMS) to assess work motivation. Two-way ANOVA was employed to examine intrinsic work motivation (W-SDM) and extrinsic work motivation (W-NSDM). Based on the results, no significant main effects could be found and therefore it was concluded that the research hypotheses could not be confirmed. Hence, there may be other factors influencing how individuals perceive both intrinsic and extrinsic work motivation.

Employer branding och motivation inom kommuner : En kvalitativ studie om medarbetares uppfattningar av employer branding och dess påverkan på motivation / Employer branding and motivation in municipalities : A qualitative study on employees’ perceptions of employer brand and its impact on motivation

Herthnek, Simon, Widfeldt, Joel January 2024 (has links)
Background: Increased competition in the labour market and a growing need for personnel have made it more important for municipalities to focus on creating a unique organisational identity in the labour market. This concept, known as employer branding, can contribute to a range of benefits such as increased competitiveness and enhanced motivation among employees, where especially the latter can facilitate organisations in recruiting and retaining employees. However, employer branding also comes with challenges, highlighting the importance of understanding how to manage it to capitalize on its potential advantages. Purpose: To examine employees’ perceptions of municipalities’ employer branding and its impact on motivation. Method: The study has used a qualitative research approach, where ten semi-structured interviews were conducted within the finance departments of four municipalities in Skaraborg. Findings and conclusion: The study’s findings revealed that employer branding strategies were not openly discussed within the municipalities and were primarily perceived subconsciously by the employees. There was also a focus within the municipalities on promoting intrinsic motivation through factors such as organisational culture. Intrinsic motivation was also considered most attractive to the employees and motivated them the most, as long as they had a basic level of extrinsic motivation where their salaries were at an acceptable level, as salary was viewed as a hygiene factor for the employees.

Carlström, Ebba, Davidsson, Lovisa January 2024 (has links)
In all workplaces there are some type of a leader, a leader who in some way must guide and drive the work-group towards success. Today, there is a lot of research into what drives the employee forward and creates motivation. Research that is harder to find on the other hand is how the actual managers work about creating motivation and what their own view is of their leadership.   The purpose of this study is to fill that knowledge gap by finding out how managers view their own leadership, what view they have of their employees and how they feel they work with motivating their work group. In order to find out, a qualitative study of eight interviews with managers of different levels in the industrial sector was carried out, based on McGregor's theory X and Y, in Lewin's three leadership styles; authoritarian, democratic and let-go and in self-determination theory. In the study, the focus has been on the managers' perspective, which gives a subjective picture based on the respondents in the study's perspective.   The results of the study showed that the managers view their employees based on Theory Y, which means that they see people as voluntary workers and that people have the ability to make their own decisions. How the leadership styles could be applied to the managers was not as clear as there were elements of both the authoritarian and the let-go leadership style, but it turned out that the democratic leadership style was dominant among the managers. Finally, it could be stated that managers use both internal and external motivational factors to motivate their work group. Based on their motivation exercise, however, the managers show that it is the inner motivational factors that the greatest focus is on in order to achieve a high level of motivation.

Vos, Judith Elizabeth January 2014 (has links)
Reading plays a significant role in society and currently there is worldwide pressure for higher literacy results. The focus of this thesis is reading motivation and how it relates to a learner's amount of reading, reading comprehension and academic achievement since these problematic constructs are attracting the interest of researchers internationally. Researchers have investigated the relationships among these constructs with a variety of results. These relationships, however, have not yet been investigated in a South African context with Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers, and the only information available on the reading motivation of Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers is information on their reading preferences in regard to literary texts. Hence the following three research aims were determined for this study: the compilation of a reading motivation profile of Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers, the analysis of the relationships among Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers' reading motivation and their amount of reading, reading comprehension and academic achievement in an Afrikaans Home Language environment, as well as the development of a reading motivation framework, particularly for use in the school and classroom environment, for these adolescent readers. The study was carried out in the post-positivistic research paradigm by means of a non-experimental quantitative research approach. Three methods of data collection were used, namely a structured questionnaire (based on the eleven reading motivation dimensions of Wigfield and Guthrie's (1997) Motivation for Reading Questionnaire, which for this purpose had been adapted for the South African context), two reading comprehension tests and obtaining the data regarding the academic achievement of the respondents. The 823 respondents that had participated in this study were the grade 9 learners (Afrikaans Home Language) of seven schools from the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district (North West Province, South Africa), selected by means of purposive sampling so that different quintiles and geographic areas were represented. Information obtained from a comprehensive literature study on relevant motivation theories, on reading motivation in practice and on the relationship among their reading motivation, amount of reading, reading comprehension and academic achievement, as well as from the results of an empirical investigation of the reading motivation of specific grade 9 learners, was used to compile a reading motivation profile of Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers. The motivation theories on which motivation in this study was based, were the social-cognitive theory, the self-efficacy theory, the ecological system theory of human development and the expectancy-value theory, because these theories emphasise the individual's behaviour within particular social contexts and because constructs such as self-efficacy, task value and mastery, which emanate from these theories, play a cardinal role in determining suitable reading motivation strategies for specific readers. It was essential to compile a reading motivation profile of Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers before a reading motivation framework for these adolescent readers could be compiled. The reading motivation framework recommends specific reading motivation strategies various social role-players in the school and classroom environments can implement so as to improve Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers' reading motivation levels. The various social role-players that would influence the Afrikaans-speaking adolescent reader's reading motivation and the reading motivation strategies each of them could use, was systematised (namely the Department of Education, the school principal and management team, teachers and parents). The essence of the contribution made by this study is that a reading motivation profile of a group of Afrikaans-speaking adolescent readers (grade 9 learners) could be compiled, that clear mutual relationships among the respondents' reading motivation and their amount of reading, reading comprehension and academic achievement came to the fore from this study and that a reading motivation framework could be developed by means of which to improve the reading motivation levels of these adolescent readers. / PhD (Curriculum Development, Innovation and Evaluation), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
