Maulois, Regis 10 April 2015 (has links)
Music, as a common means of expression to all civilizations, is at the center of the explosion of current societal and cultural productions. In the Americas, the 1960s were marked by important struggles for the conquest of equality, the recognition of cultures previously considered minor, and major trans-regional and transcontinental migrations. Among these struggles, those of the Black communities have caught my attention, including major figures like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Angela Davis, as well as political and cultural organizations, such as the Black Panthers. However, in the Caribbean, these truggles were already present in the 1930s with Marcus Garvey and his movement (UNIA). In general, it has led to focus on social disqualification of Black peoples, the cultures they carry, their "diferred citizenship" (V. Lavou). In Caribbean societies, ultimately hybrid , according to acknowledged scholars, the black movement has undoubtedly had a major impact, thereby determining all folklore and cultural expressions. It is the same with Reggaeton. Although identified as "Latin" Reggaeton, it remains for many a commercial avatar, a "manufactured product" of the entertainment industry. But, nevertheless it will be noted as the collective adherence to this music from many "Latino" as the identification effects it causes. One of the assumptions that I share is that this music "reflects" the revolt against injustice, social domination, racial, poverty. In this sense, Reggaeton gathers all urban African-Latin American popular music's features, like African-American urban popular music (USA). From this point of view, the "Reggaeton" is at at the same time an "outlet", a space of contradictory "identity negotiations" (sexism, homophobia, cult of individual success, violence, etc.), as a means to exist socially through specific codes. By questionning Reggaeton as a "analyser” of socio-political contradictions of the Caribbean archipelago and its diasporas, this thesis aims to restore its complexity, beyond purely moralistic considerations. Using conceptual tools like Paul Gilroy's "Black Atlantic", Claude Clanet's interculturality and the creolization concept of Edouard Glissant, among others, I analyze migration and social dynamics behind the emergence of Reggaeton and therefore identity tensions it contains.

Mapa de viagem de uma coleção etnográfica- a aldeia bororo nos museus salesianos e o museu salesiano na aldeia bororo / Travel Map of an Ethnographic Collection

Aramís Luis Silva 08 December 2011 (has links)
We invite readers to follow us on a journey through time and space, in order to observe the path taken by a number of bororo artefacts set in motion by Salesian priests more than 80 years ago. Taken to Italy to be displayed in missionary exhibitions, these objects were repatriated in 2001 to be shown at the just then inaugurated cultural center of the Meruri indian village, in Brazils Mato Grosso State. By highlighting this collection, we will observe, at once, the social processes that have constituted it, as well as the transformations of peoples trajectories, of collectivities and institutions that gravitate around it. Before assuming these artefacts as elements of a specific bororo ethnographic collection under control of a Salesian mission, our interest is to understand its production as such. Far from a perspective that makes reference to a fixed cultural scale, our journey transforms such collection into a thread that penetrates in a tangle of social and symbolic relations, from which these pieces emerge as moving signs among variable systems of meanings.

Interculturalidade, direito e direitos indígenas / Interculturality, theory of law and indigenous rights

Vanessa Corsetti Gonçalves Teixeira 27 June 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the limits and possibilities of a intercultural paradigm to the Theory of Law in In Latin America, considering: i. the extent academic production of the last 5 decades towards the jus-political treatment of alterity and placing interculturality amongst it; ii. verifying the specific characteristics of Latin America to the juridical integration and to democracy consolidation which is proposed by the interculturalism; and iii. seeking in the process of consolidation and development of indigenous rights some of the elements that indicates the paths to the interculturality proposals in the region. In this purpose this work initiates its analysis by proposing some categories in order to organize the knowledge produced in this field and its locus in the contemporary context (chapter 1). In the conceptualization of the interculturality the method chosen was to get its initial meaning by the contents and terms theoretical and political debates on the issue. In this sense, in spite of being a very common recourse in civil law systems to make use of the normative or legal conceptualizations, it was not the choice of method in this work. The reason why the traditional method was not chosen is that it was considered crucial to the object of this research to show the implicit contents in the intercultural debate departing from its lexical connotation in both theoretical-scientific and social-political fields (chapters 2 and 3). At last, there is an effort to analyze systematically the international law related to the indigenous peoples\' rights, searching for the intercultural elements offered in it. In the conclusive pages, some new intercultural research fields in Theory of Law are pointed out.

The Fragmentation of the Indigenous Movement in Ecuador. : Perspectives on the Tension  between Class and Ethnicity

Egberg, Mårten January 2011 (has links)
Since the first years of the 21st century, the Ecuadorian indigenous movement, classified as the most overwhelming social actor since its emergence in the mid 1980s, finds itself in crises, with its principal organizations marked by tensions and conflicts. With a departure in the fragmentation of the indigenous movement, the context of the study is the impact of issues related to the concepts of class and ethnicity. In order to achieve a deeper understanding of the topic, the approach is based on a comparative study of different historical periods. The theoretical part of the study mainly focuses on analysing the concept of social movement in relation to indigenous movement. By comparing different periods, the study seeks to demonstrate that the inter-relationship between class and ethnicity has changed due to the context. For example, the revival of once-impotent leftist parties and movements has altered the relations of power and the incentives that strucktured past linkages between the indigenous movement and the political left. Thus, due to the meteoric rise of Rafael Correa and his radical political project, the indigenous movement is confronted with a new kind of challenge. In this context, the concepts of plurinationality and interculturality have emerged and further polarized the positions both between the left and the indigenous movement and between the two indigenous organizations: CONAIE and FENOCIN. In light of these aspects, the ambition of this study is to emphasize the importance of highlightning the concepts of class and ethnicity, when analysing the cause of the current fragmentation of the indigenous movement in Ecuador.

de Toro, Alfonso 02 March 2015 (has links) (PDF)

A difficult encounter between indigenous and « expert » knowledge : intercultural politics and the prevention of violence against kichwa women in the Ecuadorian Amazon

Schick, Marie-Laure 08 October 2015 (has links)
This PhD thesis focuses on the development and application of intercultural policies in the field of international health. It is drawn on an ethnographic fieldwork conducted in canton Loreto, in the Ecuadorian Amazon, about a gender violence prevention program which was set up by the Swiss Red Cross and which is now managed in cooperation with the Ecuadorian State and a local Kichwa organization.Following a multiple-scale analysis in order to articulate the local, national and international dynamics, it highlights the intersections and the gaps between, on the one hand, the the institutional prescriptions about the ideal of interculturality and on the other hand, the daily practices of Ecuadorian mestizo health and development profesionals. It reveals that beyond the ideal of respect for "indigenous cultural differences" and of symmetry between "cultures", the discourses and practices of these professionals consist of a normalizing and moralizing enterprise concerning the gendered and, more broadly, social behaviors of Kichwa « beneficiaries ». In order to refine the analysis and to go beyond a critical approach of public health, this thesis also explores the violence and gender relations representations and practices of Kichwa women health workers and "beneficiaries", men and women. Thus it shows that the transfer of norms via public health is the subject of multiple processes of appropriation, interpretation, negotiation and instrumentalisation both on individual and collective levels by the « beneficiaries ».

Marielle de Souza Vianna 16 December 2008 (has links)
This research has investigated the relations between literature and religiosity elaborated from the living experience of an elderly students group with different religious beliefs, having as basis the reading and interpretation of the work Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. What motivated this investigation movements were the discussions on the religious interculturality, that occurred during the realization of literary saraus, in which selected passages from Cervantian work were read and interpreted (that approached the illiteracy issue in adulthood, the desire of knowing and the religious interculturality) by the elderly literacy group, whose age ranged between 60 and 83 years old, in a municipal school in Porto Alegre, in 2006. Here, three action scopes were articulated so that the elderly were able to understand the construction of their identity and their role in the social inclusion process. The first scope has been constituted through a formal educational space represented by the school. The second scope has been constituted through a public space represented by the square. The third action scope, central element of this dissertation, has been the religion sphere, represented by different forms of religiosity in their multiple ways of manifestation. These three scopes have been conjugated through a pedagogical proposal, centered in the reading and interpretation of Cervantes book. This investigation allowed us to ascertain the relevance of religiosity in research subjects life, as well as the importance of sharing experiences and narratives among those who have proposed to sit at the table of dialogue, with the mediation of literary texts, in which the religious interculturality has been discussed.

This dissertation discusses the learning on Law 11.645/08 and the cultural experience that took place during the XII Indigenous People Games (XII JPI in Portuguese) in Cuiabá- MT, based on teachers' formation on intercultural education perspective, which aimed to prepare teachers and students from public schools at the municipality, to the meeting with the Other, the indigenous. The objective of the research was to understand how the relationships between teachers' knowledges and practices were established, and the knowledges and practices that, in an intelectual perspective, is made clear from students, who can qualify the pedagogical practice on the perspective of inclusion of histories and cultures of indigenous people in the school. To do so, the researcher has participated since the elaboration and execution process of the formation course, the follow-up to the teachers' pedagogical projects who participate in the course offered by UFMT, to the organization and follow-up of students with their teachers, to the Indigenous People Games. Investigation was based on action research on a qualitative approach, which used as instruments: a questionnaire, field notes and filming. On this qualitative research, the conflicts between the colonialist and postcolonialist conception show up, bringing the conflicts as a migrant in indigenous land, as well as a teacher who faces the prejudice to the indigenous people in the city schools. The research dynamics, and the researcher's, merge and lead to the deepening of the referentils that base the ethnical-ratial and ethnical-cultural conflicts in Mato Grosso, whose land conflict happens due to the greed of agrobusiness and the permanent colonisation with the defense of native people's rights to remain on their ancestors' traditional territories, which the new generations depend on, to perpetuate their colective lifestyle and in balance with the environment that feeds them in all dimensions of life. The colonizer's life is registered on historiographical production, as well as didactic and paradidactic publications driven to children and that contribute to deny the multiethnical, pluricultural character of Brazilian population. The passing of Law 11.645/08 is necessary, however, facing the hegemonic culture that takes place against the recognition and diversity respect processes, the Law hasn't been applied in Cuiabá schools yet. Data obtained on formation and pedagogical intervention process were qualitatively analysed and described in an interpretative, reflexive proposition of pedagogical praxis, considering that a pedagogical and curricular conception that respects and values cultural diversity demands to look at the school in a diferent way, i.e., to look at it as a cultural, social space, where several ways to relate, to communicate and to act and to think. Students' and teachers' discourse were articulated to the theoretic fundaments of culture, alterity, cultural diversity, identity, interculturality and corporeity, with the goal to understand the deconstruction process of stereotypes and prejudices built and perpetuated in people's imagination, regarding indigenous people. With the research, the discussion on Law 11.645/08 deepen, spreading reflexive ideas on initial, continued formation, and teacher formation, in order to humanize the social relationships which permeate the school environment, which aims to educate for companionship on diversity, ruled on knowledge encourage on the respect to the indigenous people.

Martins, Denise Andrade de Freitas 27 February 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:36:00Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 6684.pdf: 9087621 bytes, checksum: 7f00968e297c28a167ebf5043c19daba (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-02-27 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / The aim of this study was to identify and understand the educational processes originated from the construction-reconstruction of an intercultural dialogical musical practice together with a participating community (students, parents, educators) from an extension project, in the city of Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, the Project Writing the Future (Re) cutting papera, creating pannels. This project, which involves three educational institutions: the University, Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais, Unidade Ituiutaba, the Music School, Conservatório Estadual de Música Dr. José Zóccoli de Andrade , and the Basic Educational School, Escola Estadual Governador Bias Fortes, is understood as a social practice, given that everybody participates freely, being able to access or leave when they wish to do so. Based on the dialogue and marked by a strong sense of collaboration, companionship is a basic requirement for such practice. The processo of construction-reconstruction of the research had as reference the pedagogical principles of the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire and was composed of two moments: data collection (intervention procedures: questionnaires, interviews, meetings) and development (gatherings, partitura, travelling, performance) of the Generating Music, seen as the step by step of this process, based on the daily lives of the people involved their musical tastes, knowledge and skills. The theoretical reference was basically sustained mainly by the concepts of culture and interculturality. Inspire by phenomenology and of a qualitative nature, the principal tool for data collection was the field journals, with a later analysis, also interviews, photographs, film footages, drawings and texts written by the collaborating participants, term used in this research to refer to the students. The analysis of the data collected during the intervention and registered in the field journals enabled the construction of the following categories: A) Strengthening of the Identity: Oh my, he is strong, he is Zumbi, black warrior just like us! ; B) Respect towards others: I was feeling rather comfortable to play some music! ; C) Desire to become more: When this project started it changed my whole life! [...]. Now I can only do music! . Thus, we consider that practices in Musical Education demand, from those involved in it, commitment and responsability, permanent search of knowledge and skills, respect and acknowledgement of others. However, the process of teachers development, the stimulus of motivation with musical and personal development quality, the c reative and cooperative interaction in the familiarity of the different cultures, the guarantee of a musical education and teaching commited to the development of citizenship and the rights exercise, yet, present themselves as challenges to be face at present.

The research was carried out in a Primary School 1st-year classroom of one of the Municipal Primary Schools of São Carlos, which are Learning Communities. In Learning Communities, the objective is to seek education based on the communicative rationality by Habermas, dialogicity by Freire and on the principles of the dialogic learning formulated by the Special Center of Theories and Practices to Overcome Inequalities (CREA/UB Spain), in which diversity at school is considered to be an educational advantage to be explored. As for the investigation, the guidelines were taken from the Critical Communicative Methodology of research, which has dialogue and social transformation as its axles. Its theoretical bases are elaborations by Habermas, Freire and CREA. The procedures of data collection and used resources were: a) communicative observation through keeping a daily journal and filming classroom situations; b) communicative reports, recorded or filmed, with the teacher, students families, students and volunteers of the investigated classroom; c) communicative discussion group with the same agents. The data was collected between August and December of 2008 and the analysis was carried out based on the chart recommended by the Methodology itself, through which aspects that generate obstacles and/or transformation in the evaluated reality are identified. The data analysis in this methodology is intersubjective and was carried out with the support of all the participants between October 2008 and June 2009. As a result, the presence of different people in the moments of teaching and learning is highlighted as a great favoring element, as well as the educator s concern in providing opportunities to talk about diversity, how different people build knowledge historically and how this affects our lives. By thinking of the elements that impede such a pedagogical work, the inexistence of a communicative curriculum which meets both the formative needs dreamed of by the families towards their children and what is intended in the laws which rule education in the country and in the city in question is highlighted. In addition, there is the difficulty in working with prejudice, discrimination and racism matters, which are still present in the different scopes in our lives. Furthermore, taking diversity as an educational advantage in the researched situation is also emphasized, thus revealing the interaction as the crucial element for a teaching practice which is based on diversity. Such an interaction is favoring if considered from an intercultural education, through a communicative rationality, which is effected through dialogicity. In this sense, the posture assumed by the teacher revealed fundamental.
