Business Models for Mobile Media Services : A case study in China mainland market

Huang, Jin January 2012 (has links)
Mobile media OTT service such as mobile music and mobile video is believed to be the next big revenue driver for mobile operator’s mobile broadband business. The media industry is willing to take mobile distribution channel to increase the content value. In Europe, there are already several successful cooperation cases between online media service provider and mobile operator, such as Spotify and Telia. However, with more complicated market and business environment in China, the mobile media services are still under development with immature business models. This thesis report aims to identify the business models of mobile media services in Europe and China, and to give business solution and strategic recommendation after analysis on actors, business roles, resources and activities using several business model theories. Six interviews have been done with industrial people from mobile network operator, online media service provider and TV channel in Sweden and China. With Spotify and Telia cooperation as the major part of case study in Europe market, data was gathered through business intelligent reports and interviews in Sweden. Six elements of business model theory from Chesbrough & Rosenbloom are used to conduct business model analysis onTelia-Spotify case. The result shows that Spotify play a joint connection role between tons of content from music insustry and mobile connection provider Telia, delivering value of good user experience and brand. Telia put the value of network, billing capability and user resource in the partnership with Spotify and benefit from the differentiated mobile broadband service, in terms of incearsing customer experience and reducing churn rate. TV4 case is investigated to analyze thebusiness development of mobile video in Europe. The result shows that there are two obstacles when delivering TV content to mobile device from TV channel’s perspective. One is that there is no way to measure the advertisement rate on mobile device, the other is that it is difficult to do localized advertisement program on mobile network. In the business model analysis in China, actors from mobile operator, state-owned media group and Internet company are identified as well as their activities in mobile media service. ARA model theory is used to analyze the value network and give the clear map of different actors’relations. The result shows that mobile media service in China has different situation in platform development, partnership with labels, service provider organization property and revenue model. Chinese mobile operators as state-owned companies develop mobile media service platform ontheir own instead of cooperation with service provider to avoid political and finance risk. They have direct partnership with content provider and give 50% of media OTT service revenue to content provider. The pirate rate of music in China is high, which result in very little willingness to pay for the music streaming service. Internet companies can build freemium service model with both licensed music content and content from illegal aggregators on advertising revenue model. However in online video area, Chinese government have implement strict regulatory to protect the copyright of video content. The major part of online video service providers’ revenueis also advertising, but with only licensed video content. The main factor that makes the different business environment between Europe and China is that the state-owned economy force in China plays important role in mobile media area. State owned mobile operators take the most business roles in mobile media service, which makes the possibility to cooperate with Spotify-like Internet companies is low. The first patch 3G mobile licenses are only granted to eight state-owned media groups, which are the only possible content providers of mobile operators’ mobile video service. To address the problem of cooperation inbetween mobile operators and Internet companies, to setup joint venture is the recommended solution. High customer satisfied service platform should be developed to enlarge the value of service. The recognized service value will lower the piracy rate and make the subscription revenue model possible.

Lindström, Frida January 2021 (has links)
Through so called ”publication licenses” [Swedish: utgivningsbevis] people or businesses who have acquired these can publish certain types of personal information on the internet. These can include addresses, phone numbers, tax information, birthdays, full names and other information that can be acquired through the Swedish principle of public access to official records [Swedish: offentlighetsprincipen]. The publication licenses are protected under the Swedish constitution and therefore override EU-law, for example the publication licenses override GDPR [General Data Protection Regulation]. The information can be difficult to remove from the internet if the website that published the information does not want to remove it. Personal information on the internet, particularly addresses and phone numbers, could potentially contribute to feelings of worry or insecurity in some people. For example, previous research has shown that some people may be at risk or may experience a strong sense of uncomfortableness or worry over having their information made public (see for example Hedin and Wiberg, 2020; Ericsson, 2011). Another potential cause for worry could be the risk of being stalked, which is more common that women are exposed to (Lenhart et al, 2016; Maiuro, 2015; Logan, 2006).  The aim of this investigation was to examine perceived safety in relation to publicly available personal information. To achieve this, six qualitative semi-structured interviews were done to shed light on how individuals think and feel when it comes to publicly available personal information and whether they’ve had any personal experiences of feeling unsafe with having their personal information available online. The selection of participants consisted of both women and men between the ages 23-32 years old. Theories on risk and safety by Ulrich Beck and Anthony Giddens have been used when analyzing the results. The empirical data was then analyzed through a thematic analysis.  The results showed that individuals do reflect over the fact that their personal information is available on the internet, particularly when they’ve experienced something that reminded them of this. This can also evoke feelings of insecurity in certain individuals as a result of knowing that one’s personal information, such as address or phone number, is available on the internet. This was especially common among the female participants in this study as well as among those who have worked in retail. All of the female participants expressed feelings of insecurity around having their information online, this differed from the male participants Frida Lindström S7021A 3 where nobody shared any such experiences. Overall there is a sense of concern, vulnerability or uncertainty surrounding having one’s personal information available online. Something else that the investigation found was a demand for more control over which personal information is being shown online. However, opinions varied regarding whether or not individuals should have the right to have their information removed from the internet.

Isovic, Denis, Svensson, Kim January 2021 (has links)
This study deals with sport's controversial dependence on the gambling market. The aim of the study is to analyse the comments of authorities, organisations and associations regarding the governmental public inquiry (SOU 2017:30) A re-regulated gambling market. The method used to collect and analyse data was a literature review in the form of a qualitative content analysis. The gambling market brings enormous amounts of money to the Swedish sports movement. The gambling policy that has been pursued in Sweden has encouraged the gambling market to return profit money to the sports movement. The problem has thus been to be able to apply national laws to foreign gambling companies. The advent of the Gambling Act (2018:1138) brought some significant changes, most notably the introduction of the licensing system and the 18 percent excise tax.  The results of the study show that the advent of the Gambling Act (2018:1138) has provided the opportunity for the state to collect taxes from foreign gambling companies and to be able to work more effectively against gambling abuse. Furthermore, it means creating a balance to meet the demand in the gambling market as well as being able to provide a high level of consumer protection.

The Shortage of Licensed Social Workers in Central Florida

Burrows, Helen M 01 January 2019 (has links)
For several decades, a national shortage of licensed clinical social workers has been growing in the United States. Licensed social workers provide counsel and advocacy for those affected by mental illness, addiction, abuse, and discrimination, among other economic difficulties, and are the largest group of providers of mental and behavioral health services. The research questions for this project addressed what challenges unlicensed social workers in central Florida identify as barriers to pursuing clinical licensure. This study also explored strategies that unlicensed social workers in central Florida reported to address these barriers and encourage the pursuit of clinical licensure. The purpose of this research was to identify both the barriers that social worker's report in seeking their licensure and effective strategies to address the barriers. The theoretical framework to inform the project was systems theory. An action research design was used including a focus group of 5 unlicensed social workers, selected through purposive sampling. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Study outcomes showed that social workers in central Florida chose not to pursue licensure because of the cost and time associated with the process. Changes recommended as part of this research may bring about social change through an increase in the number of licensed social workers to assist Floridians who seek such services.

Study of the Performance and Characteristics of U.S. Academic Research Institution Technology Commercialization (ARITC)

Kim, Jisun 01 January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation aims to provide a better understanding of the technology licensing practices of academic research institutions. The study identifies time durations in licensing and incorporates these into a model to evaluate licensing performance. Performance is measured by the efficiency of an institution's technology licensing process and efficiency changes over time, using Association of University Technology Managers annual survey data from 1991 to 2007. Organizational characteristics influencing the licensing performances of 46 U.S. research institutions also are explored. The study resulted in a new approach that integrates the identification of time lags in licensing, analysis of efficiency change, and exploration of the influence of organizational characteristics on efficiency change. A super-efficiency variable returns to scale data envelopment analysis (DEA) model was applied to the time-lag neutralized licensing data, to measure the efficiency of U.S. research institutions' licensing performance over time. The study also includes an innovative approach to resolving issues with the super-efficiency DEA model, including mathematical infeasibility and zero-data issues. The licensing mechanisms included in the study are disclosure, patent applications, patents issued, licenses and options executed, start-ups, and licensing income. The time duration from expenditure to licensing income, including all intermediating licensing processes, ranged from 2 to 27 years. The study identified the organizational characteristics related to licensing practice. Academic prestige and research quality are positively related to disclosure, patents granted, and start-up. The resources of a technology licensing office influences the number of licensing agreements, whereas licensing office experience has a positive relationship with start-ups. Increased licensing resources improve the efficiency of licensing practices, and a research institution with more dedicated licensing staff has improved licensing productivity. Private institutions improved their licensing practice more than public ones during the study period. On the other hand, institutions with a medical school demonstrated low efficiency. This dissertation fills a gap in the understanding of licensing practice and the organizational characteristics related to licensing performance. In addition, the study contributes to research methodology by providing a new approach to identifying time lags and improving the DEA method. The results, grounded in comprehensive observations over multiple time durations, provide an insight into the licensing practices of U.S. research institutions. The dissertation presents recommendations for research institutions based on the relationships identified among academic prestige, research intensity, organizational characteristics of the technology licensing office, and licensing performance.

The Study and Career Guidance Counsellor Profession: Professional License or no Professional License

Sabado, Via, Cetina, Esma January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how study and career guidance counsellors view their profession in connection with a professional license with the main questions being: 1.     Should a professional licensing card for study and career guidance counsellors be introduced? 2.     How would a professional licensing affect the professionalization of the study and career guidance counsellors’ profession? This study is made from the perspective of professional study and career guidance counsellors and is intended for them, school leaders, employers, and politicians within school-working life, to hopefully develop the professional role, status and competence of study and career guidance counsellors. A quantitative method was used to gather information from working professionals through a survey that was published in different social media forums such as LinkedIn and Facebook. The survey was also sent out to people within the writer’s social network. The NICE handbook by Schiersmann, Ertelt, Katsarov, Mulvey, Reid och Weber (2012) has been used to analyse the results given by the respondents and has been the basis of this study. The main result shows that from a study and career guidance counsellor perspective, a professional licensing would be beneficial for the profession and is sought after. However, the results show that licensing is more sought after within the world of academics. This is due to the varying work and work titles that study and career guidance counsellors outside of the academic world have, thus a professional license might act more restricting rather than being a step towards professionalisation.

The Influence of Profession and Therapy Type for the Cost Effective Treatment of Sexual Dysfunction

Fawcett, David 18 May 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Sexual dysfunctions are serious mental health issues that impact an estimated one in three Americans. Due to the complex, relational nature of most sexual dysfunctions, mental health professionals trained to work with couples and their relationship interactions are likely to have better outcomes when treating clients with sexual dysfunction. Data from CIGNA Health Solutions was analyzed to explore differences in therapy outcome for various types of mental health professions when treating clients with sexual dysfunctions. The current research is a retrospective analysis of administrative data that explores whether or not type of profession (i.e. psychologists, Masters of social work, marriage and family therapist, or professional counselor) influences the outcome of mental health treatment. This study also explores whether therapy modality (i.e. individual, conjoint, or mixed mode, a combination of individual and conjoint therapy) influences therapy outcome. Treatment outcome was measured by recidivism rates, client drop out from therapy, the total number of sessions, and cost of treatment. Participants included 230 males and 189 females ages 18 to 101 (M =38.9, SD = 11.4) who received treatment for sexual disorders from 2001 to 2006. Participants were from all regions of the United States. Results indicate that overall, psychotherapeutic treatment for sexual dysfunctions is relatively brief, averaging about seven sessions across all professions. Results suggest that marriage and family therapists treat sexual dysfunctions using a conjoint and mixed mode approach more frequently than therapists with other licenses. Results also suggest that mixed mode therapy has drastically lower dropout rates and longer retention than individual or conjoint therapy. These results suggest that utilizing a combination of relational and individual sessions is beneficial to the treatment of sexual dysfunctions.

Work in a medical context : Healthcare social workers experiences of conducting social work within the healthcare system

Sjödin, Emma January 2023 (has links)
The overall aim of this essay was to examine how healthcare social workers experienced their opportunities to conduct social work within a medical context. Do they feel that they have room for action to carry out social work, and have the conditions changed since the introduction of a license for health care social workers? The study was conducted as a qualitative interview study where semi-structured interviews were held with six healthcare social workers at a clinic in a medium-sized hospital in Sweden. To analyze the material, thematic analysis was used, where four main themes and fourteen sub-themes emerged. The healthcare social workers at the clinic do solid social work, but the space it gets in contrast to the medical perspective is limited. Hierarchies emerge in different ways in the material. The essay shows that the perceived room for action is large, but that the actual room for action is to some extent limited. The healthcare social workers didn´t experienced any improvement regarding duties, working conditions or position at the clinic since the introduction of a license for health care social workers. However, there was a hope among all the informants, but mainly among those with the shortest time at the clinic that the license in the future would strengthen their position and improve their working conditions.
