憂鬱與日常生活的心境一致想法:日程紀錄研究 / Depression and mood congruent thoughts in everyday life:A diary study

本文試圖將日程紀錄法的研究典範應用於憂鬱的心理病理研究,聚焦於兩研究問題:(一)探討個體的憂鬱症狀與其日常生活正/負向情感傾向的關係,以及該正/負向情感傾向如何影響其每日的正/負向想法;(二)根據「素質-壓力模式」的觀點,探討個體於日常生活中展現的情感傾向與認知特性,在控制住基準點的憂鬱症狀後,是否仍可顯著預測個體處於壓力狀態的憂鬱症狀。93名大學生完整參與本研究,問卷評估包括基準點的憂鬱症狀、日程紀錄期間的每日正/負向情感與正/負向想法、以及其期中考期間的憂鬱症狀。研究顯示憂鬱個體展現較低的正向情感傾向與較強的負向情感傾向,而個體的正/負向情感傾向與狀態可顯著預測其正/負向想法,且情感傾向與狀態對想法存在顯著的交互作用;另外,個體於日常生活展現的平均負向想法與正向情感傾向,在控制住基準點的症狀後,仍可顯著預測其處於壓力的憂鬱症狀。最後,我們則探討本研究對心理病理與治療的意涵。 / The authors attempted using diary method paradigm to study psychopathology of depression. The study focused on two questions: (1) explore the relationship between individuals’ depressive symptoms and their tendency of positive/ negative affect, and how the tendency of affect impact their daily positive/ negative thoughts; (2) according to the view of diathesis-stress model, explore how the affective tendency and cognitive characteristics exhibited in daily life could predict their depressive symptoms under stress after the initial symptoms are controlled. 93 participants finished all questionnaires, including initial depressive symptoms, daily positive/ negative affect, positive/ negative thoughts, and depressive symptoms under midterm examination. The results showed that depression is related to low positive affect and high negative affect. Individuals’ tendency and state of positive/ negative affect could predict their daily positive/ negative thoughts, and there exist a significant interaction effect between tendency and state to thoughts. Further, individuals’ tendency of positive affect and average negative could predict their depressive symptoms under stress after the initial symptoms are controlled. Finally, the implications for psychopathology and therapy are discussed.

Ancien élève de Husserl et Heidegger, Günther Anders (1902-1992) composa une oeuvre philosophique dont la particularité est d'interroger la situation de l'homme face aux événements les plus sombres du 20e siècle. Ce travail, élaboré à partir d'une lecture de l'oeuvre éditée à ce jour, complétée par celle du Nachlass, vise à ressaisir l'unité, la cohérence et la singularité de sa pensée autour d'une question majeure : comment un monde technicisé, un monde sans hommes, est-Il compatible avec une éthique pour des hommes sans monde ? Décrire les ombres du monde, celles d'abord laissées par un monde humain technicisé, c'est déceler les idéalités de la technique qui recouvrent chaque chose d'une évidence artificielle. Observer le monde fabriqué par des hommes devenus des ombres, c'est aussi percevoir qu'ils peuplent un environnement dont ils sont les produits. Ce monde artificiel, à défaut de ne faire que soulager l'hostilité naturelle, ajoute d'autres souffrances au poids de la nécessité, que les arts parviennent à peine à déjouer. Théoriser les ombres du monde, c'est relever la négativité d'un nihilisme réalisé par la technique, à refuser. L'hypothèse philosophique ici défendue est celle d'un nihilisme métaphysique conçu comme préalable nécessaire au refus de toute autre pratique nihiliste. A cet effet, à partir de l'oeuvre d'Anders se conçoit une philosophie occassionnelle comme pratique théorique d'une sobriété tragique. Si briser toute idée métaphysique aboutit à désenchanter les victimes de trop naïves généralités, cette théorie n'impose cependant en rien de s'interdire de faire de la métaphysique. / As a former student of Husserl and Heidegger, Günther Anders (1902-1992) wrote a philosophical work which characteristic is to examine the situation of man facing the darkest events of the 20th century. Our thesis developed with a reading of the edited work supplemented by the Nachlass, aims to synthesize the unity consistency and uniqueness of his thoughts by asking a specific question : how a technical world, a world without men, could be compatible with any ethic for men without world ? To describe the shadows of the world left by a technical one, is meant to identify idealities which cover everything with an artificial obviousness. To observe the world made by men, who themselves became shadows, is like to perceive thet they are living in a environment whose they are the products. This artificail world, instead of relieving man about the nature hostility, adds other difficulties, which the technology is only sometimes able to cope with. To theorize the shadows of the world is meant to seek the specific negativity of nihilism, which is produced by technology. Our task is to show that we can refuse the nihilism as an attitude. The philosophical hypothesis defended here is metaphysical nihilism designed as prerequisite for the refusal of any other nihilistic praxis. The philosophical work of Anders allows us to conceive an occasional philosophy as a theoretical practice, pointed out as a tragic sobriety. If to break any metaphysical idea leads to disenchant the naïve victims of generalities, this theory however does not refrain us from doing metaphysics.

Die invloed van ekspressiewe skryfoefeninge op die werkende geheue van adolescente en jong volwassenes (The influence of expressive writing on the memory of adolescents and young adults

Klein en Boals beweer met hul 2001-studie dat ES ook ‘n positiewe invloed uitoefen op die werkende geheue van individue. Met die huidige studie word die vraag of hierdie bevinding ook van toepassing is op adolessente en jong volwassenes van Suidelike Afrika ondersoek. Dié projek betrek aanvanklik skoolleerders (N = 44) en eerstejaar universiteitstudente (N = 83) in die Suid-Kaap en met die skryfoefeninge word ‘n komponent bygevoeg by een van die eksperimentele groepe waar kognitiewe insette saam met die emosionele onthulling verlang word. Die studie-resultate toon heelwat teenstrydighede, dog die positiewe invloed van ES op die werkspan word by ‘n goeie aantal eksperimentele groep deelnemers waargeneem. Vorige navorsing dui op ‘n verlaging in die voorkoms van indringer- en vermydingsgedagtes na ES tesame met verbeterde werkspan en hierdie verband word van nader beskou deur die huidige studie. Die moontlikheid dat woordtelling per minuut as informele meting van werkspan aanvaar kan word, sowel as die moontlike verband tussen gemoedsvlak en skryfkondisie word ook met die projek ondersoek. / During the past three decades expressive writing has been in the research spotlight as an effective method of intervention in the improvement of human well-being. In 2001 a study done by Klein and Boals claimed that expressive writing also has a positive influence on the working memory of the student participants. The current study investigates the influence of expressive writing on adolescents and young adults in the Southern Africa context. Solution-focused exercises, together with emotional expression during the writing sessions, add a cognitive component to the intervention which strive to create greater impact on working memory capacity (WMC). Previous research indicate that improvement in WMC goes hand in hand with the reduction in the prevalence of intrusive and avoidant thoughts. During the current project the relationship between working memory and these thoughts is investigated. Additionally the possibility of word count as informal measure for WMC are looked at as well as a possible association between mood level and writing condition. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Dejian mind-body intervention: effects on mood and physical health. / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection

Background. A sizable amount of individuals in the community are presented with various kinds of physical and mental health problems which are either undetected, untreated or inadequately treated, due to the limitations on the availability and accessibility of the services in the existing health care system, or to other social and personal reasons. The current study evaluated the effectiveness of a newly developed modality of health-enhancing treatment---the Mindfulness-based Dejian Mind-Body Intervention, as compared to that of a Group Psychoeducational Treatment, in alleviating depressive mood and improving physical health of adult individuals in the community. / Conclusions. Findings of the current study suggest that compared with the Group Psychoeducational Treatment, Dejian Mind-Body Intervention might be more effective in enhancing the emotional and physical health of community individuals presented with moderate to severe depressive mood and/or problems with bowel functioning. / Method. Forty adult volunteers with various degree of depressive mood and physical problems who expressed interest in receiving either Dejian Mind-Body Intervention or Group Psychoeducational Treatment were recruited in the current study. They were matched for gender, age, education and level of depression, and were randomly assigned to either treatment group. / Results. Both the Dejian Mind-Body Intervention and Group Psychoeducation Treatment were effective in bringing about a significant reduction in depressive mood iv among treatment completers. However, differential effectiveness emerged among those presented with moderate to severe depressive mood, where Dejian Mind-Body Intervention resulted in significantly greater treatment-related reduction in depressive mood compared with the Group Psychoeducational Treatment. Besides, Dejian Mind-Body Intervention brought about significant increase in an objective QEEG measure of positive affect, and improvements in physical health (i.e., bowel functioning) that were not evidenced in the Group Psychoeducation Treatment. / Tsui, Jin Ching. / Adviser: Agnes S.Y. 短暫午睡對國小學童認知功能與情緒之影響 / The effects of short midday naps on cognitive function and mood in elementary school children

研究背景:成人午睡對於認知與情緒影響的正面效益,已獲得許多研究證實,不過兒童夜間各睡眠期所占比例與成人不同,而且至今少有兒童午睡效益的研究,因此,本研究旨在探討短暫午睡對於國小學童認知功能、學習表現與情緒狀態的影響。 實驗設計與方法:以研究一實驗室情境,配合研究二教室現場實地研究兩種方式進行探討。研究一採組內設計,以30名國小五年級學童,在睡眠實驗室分別接受單日20分鐘的午睡與清醒的實驗,並以五種神經心理測驗,進行前測與後測,並以相依樣本t考驗進行比較兩種實驗情境在五種神經心理測驗表現的差異,並以性別×情境×時間三因子變異數分析,比較睏睡度與情緒的分數差異,並以皮爾森積差相關統計分析午睡睡眠參數資料與神經心理測驗分數的相關性。研究二採組內設計,以67名五年級學童,在兩週分別接受三日教室現場的午睡以及三日清醒情境的安排,並實施國語、數學、社會教學,作為午睡效益的評量依據,並以重複樣本t考驗比較兩種實驗情境國語科、數學科、社會科學習成效測驗分數是否有所差異,另以午睡習慣×實驗情境×時間三因子變異數分析,比較睏睡度與情緒量表分數的差異性。 研究結果:研究一發現受試者經歷20分鐘的午睡後,在專心度表現顯著比清醒好,不過午睡後的抑制刺激干擾的錯誤率卻顯著比清醒時高;至於在工作記憶、敘述性記憶、程序性動作記憶的表現,兩種情境則無顯著差異。另外,發現午睡後13:10的主觀睏睡度明顯比清醒時要低,在其他情緒狀態上則無顯著差異。而且發現睡眠第一期時間與抑制刺激干擾能力表現達顯著負相關;睡眠第二期時間與敘述性記憶表現成正相關:睡眠第三期時間則與敘述性記憶表現成負相關;:研究二則發現午睡後學生睏睡度顯著比沒午睡時要低,而且三日內15:30的睏睡度皆比剛睡醒13:10時要低,且第三日15:30睏睡度有顯著降低,但其他情緒則無顯著影響。另外,國語、數學、社會三科的學習成效,在兩種實驗情境皆無顯著差異。 結論:兒童午睡過程睡眠期與成人不太相同,且從兒童夜間睡眠與認知相關研究,也可以發現兒童似乎能夠補償短暫午睡缺乏,造成對認知功能損害或情緒的負面影響,因此,短暫午睡似乎對於兒童的正面顯著效益,並不如成人ㄧ般,不過,本研究實驗室或教室研究情境,皆ㄧ致發現兒童午睡仍能減少受試者主觀睏睡度,而且也發現隨著午睡日數增加所帶來的正面效益。未來,進行實地研究可以更嚴謹的睡眠偵測及判讀工具,來確認受試者午睡情況,減少主觀判斷與檢核所產生的誤差。 / Background: It has been confirmed by many researches that taking the afternoon nap has positive effects on adult cognition and emotion. However, the proportion of children’s sleep stages at night is quite different from that of adults. Since there are few studies on the effects of children’s afternoon nap, this paper aims to discuss the effects of short nap on cognitive ability, academic performance and emotional state of elementary school pupils. Experimental Design and Methods: The study mainly adopted two methods--------- laboratory situation and field study in the classroom. The first method was conducted among 30 fifth-grade pupils from the elementary school, with each one dealing with 20-minute long nap and sober status respectively in a day. Besides, five neuropsychological tests were carried out to pre-test and post-test their performance with the paired sample t-test to compare their difference. Based on the variance analysis of gender, situation as well as time factors, sleepiness degree and emotional difference were compared and the relationship between nap parameters and neuropsychological test scores was analyzed with Pearson's correlation analysis method. The second method was conducted among 67 fifth-grade pupils from the elementary school, dealing with afternoon nap and sober situation respectively for three days in two weeks. Besides, Chinese, Mathematics and Sociology were taught as the basis to assess the effects of afternoon nap with the paired samples t-test. Based on the variance analysis of nap habits, environmental situation and time factors, sleepy degree and emotional difference were compared. Research Result: The first study showed that concentration degree of pupils after 20-minute afternoon nap was much higher than that before sleeping, so was the error rate to inhibit stimulation’s interference. As for the performance in working, declarative and procedural motor memory, there was no significant difference. In addition, we found that the subject sleepiness degree after 13:10 was lower than that when awake and there was no significant difference in other emotional states. The duration of stageⅠwas significantly negative-related to the performance to inhibit stimulation’s interference, and the duration of stageⅡwas positive-related to declarative memory performance; while the duration of stageⅢwas negative-related to declarative memory performance. The second study showed that subjective sleepiness degree of pupils after afternoon nap was much lower than that before nappinging, so was the sleepiness degree of 15:30 much lower than that of 13:10 in three days. In particular, the sleepiness degree of 15:30 in the third day decreased significantly, while other emotional states were not affected greatly. What’s more, there was no significance between these two experimental situations on study effects of Chinese, Mathematics and Sociology Conclusion: Children have a different afternoon nap course from adults. Related researches on children’s night sleep and cognition show that children seem to be able to .compensate for the lack of a short nap, resulting in cognitive impairment or emotional impact of negative.Therefore, the positive benefit of short nap of children is not as significant as that of adults. However, both laboratory and classroom situation showed that children’s afternoon nap could still reduce the subjective sleepiness. As the napping days increased, the positive effect was much more evident. In the near future, more rigorous sleep state detection and scoring tools for field study can be used to identify the nap situation and to reduce subjective misunderstanding and detection errors.

Studies on Premenstrual Dysphoria

<p>Premenstrual dysphoria, so severe that it affects the lives of the women afflicted, is the condition studied in this thesis. Physiological and pharmacological mechanisms of pathogenetic relevance were investigated. </p><p>Women with premenstrual dysphoria showed a stronger and less dampened response of LH to an estradiol challenge than asymptomatic women, indicating an altered neuroendocrine regulation. In women with premenstrual dysphoria, the LH response was correlated to the severity of irritability and bloating, and the early FSH response was correlated to the severity of depressed mood. </p><p>The positron-emission study showed strong, consistent correlations between worsening of mood symptoms and a decrease in brain trapping of the immediate serotonin precursor, from the mid-follicular to the late luteal phase in women with premenstrual dysphoria. The strongest correlations were seen for the cardinal mood symptoms of premenstrual dysphoria, and for their opposites. Physical symptoms showed weaker or no correlations with the exception of nociceptive symptoms from erogenous body regions which showed positive correlations to serotonin precursor trapping in the right caudate nucleus. The findings are consistent with the serotonin hypothesis of premenstrual dysphoria, and might possibly explain the observed effects of serotonin-augmenting drugs in this condition.</p><p>The partial 5-HT<sub>1A</sub> receptor agonist buspirone was superior to placebo in the treatment of premenstrual dysphoria. The weak SRI and 5-HT<sub>2</sub> receptor antagonist nefazodone was not superior to placebo. For women with premenstrual dysphoria in need of medication and who do not tolerate SRIs because of the sexual sideeffects, buspirone may be an alternative drug, since it had no adverse effects on sexual function. </p><p>The prevalence of polycystic ovaries and serum levels of androgens were not higher in women with premenstrual dysphoria than in their asymptomatic counterparts. The findings are not consistent with the hypothesis that irritability in women with premenstrual dysphoria is induced by elevated testosterone levels. </p><p>Thesis results, which are in line with the serotonin hypothesis of premenstrual dysphoria, may imply that increased brain sensitivity is one of the factors underlying severe premenstrual mood symptoms, thereby further supporting a common serotonergic dysregulation in this condition.</p>

Bailarines lesionados: respuestas emocionales y estrategias de afrontamiento

En el moment en què els ballarins pateixen una lesió l'atenció dels professionals de la medicina de la dansa se centra prioritàriament en els aspectes físics del tractament i de la recuperació. Amb tot, la lesió sovint té conseqüències pel que fa a les funcions psicològiques. L'objectiu d'aquesta recerca de tipus exploratori, de disseny empíric, transversal, descriptiu i correlacional/causal és conèixer les respostes emocionals davant la lesió de ballarins lesionats de dansa mesurant depressió, desesperança, estat emocional i estratègies d'afrontament. Per això, es varen administrar el POMS, BDI-II, BHS i CHIP, a més d'un qüestionari sobre els factors associats a la lesió, a una mostra de 94 ballarins lesionats a Nova York. Els resultats més destacats assenyalen que el 31,9% dels ballarins va presentar una simptomatologia de depressió en les categories de lleu, moderat i sever en el BDI-II i un 42,9% d'ells desesperança. Quant al perfil de l'estat d'ànim (POMS), constatem una tendència a nivells elevats de tensió i confusió, seguits de depressió, fatiga i hostilitat. El vigor destaca per la seva absència. Les estratègies d'afrontament utilitzades inclouen l'afrontament instrumental i el de distracció, mentre que tendeixen a no utilitzar en la mateixa mesura estratègies pal·liatives. Pel que fa a d'altres factors associats cal destacar, en primer lloc, les preocupacions econòmiques com a factor que pot arribar a ser un impediment a l'hora d'obtenir tractament mèdic i/o psicològic. En segon lloc, en relació a les conductes dels ballarins és rellevant que el 64,8% va continuar ballant malgrat la lesió, i que el 31,9% va cuidar la lesió per sí mateix, sense cap ajut mèdic. Finalment, pel que fa al suport i l'ajuda que pot oferir un psicòleg especialitzat en dansa, els ballarins valoren positivament les tècniques de relaxació, i el seu suport davant les respostes emocionals davant les lesions, així com en la transició psicosocial de la carrera de ballarí. / En el momento en que los bailarines sufren una lesión la atención de los profesionales de la medicina de la danza se centra prioritariamente en los aspectos físicos del tratamiento y de la recuperación. Sin embargo, la lesión tiene a menudo consecuencias sobre las funciones psicológicas. El objetivo de esta investigación de tipo exploratorio, de diseño empírico, transversal, descriptivo y correlacional/causal es conocer las respuestas emocionales en bailarines lesionados midiendo depresión, desesperanza, estado emocional y estrategias de afrontamiento. Para ello, se administraron el POMS, BDI-II, BHS y CHIP, además de un cuestionario sobre los factores asociados a la lesión, a una muestra de 94 bailarines lesionados en Nueva York. Los resultados más destacados señalan que el 31,9% de los bailarines presentó una sintomatología de depresión en las categorías de leve, moderado y severo en el BDI-II y un 42,9% de ellos desesperanza. En cuanto al perfil del estado de ánimo (POMS), constatamos una tendencia a niveles elevados de tensión y confusión, seguidos de depresión, fatiga y hostilidad. El vigor destaca por su bajas puntuaciones. Las estrategias de afrontamiento empleadas incluyen el afrontamiento instrumental y el de distracción, mientras que tienden a no utilizar en la misma medida estrategias paliativas. En cuanto a otros factores asociados es importante destacar, en primer lugar, las preocupaciones económicas como factor que puede llegar ser un impedimento para obtener tratamiento médico y/o psicológico. En segundo lugar, en relación con las conductas de los bailarines cabe destacar que el 64,8% continuó bailando aún estando lesionado, y que el 31,9% cuidó la lesión por sí mismo. Finalmente, en cuanto al apoyo y la ayuda que puede ofrecer un psicólogo especializado en danza, los bailarines valoran positivamente las técnicas de relajación, y su apoyo ante las respuestas emocionales ante las lesiones, así como en la transición psicosocial después de la carrera de bailarín. / When dancers are injured dance medicine professionals focus their attention primarily on the physical aspects of treatment and recovery. However, injuries usually have an impact on the individual's psychological functions as well. The objective of this exploratory study, of experimental, transversal, descriptive and correlational/causal design, is to know the emotional responses towards injury in injured dancers measuring depression, hopelessness, emotional state and coping strategies. In order to do that, the POMS, BDI-II, BHS and CHIP were administered, together with a questionnaire regarding injury-associated factors, to a sample of 94 injured dancers in New York. As for the results, 31.9% of the dancers showed depression symptomatology in the categories mild, moderate and severe in the BDI-II and 42.9 of them showed hopelessness. Regarding the profile of mood states (POMS), results show a tendency towards high levels of tension and confusion, followed by depression, fatigue and hostility. Vigor stands out due to its low scores. The coping strategies used include instrumental and distraction, while not using palliative strategies in the same degree. Regarding other injury-associated factors it is important to note, firstly, the dancers' economical worries as a factor that can even prevent them from accessing medical and/or psychological treatment. Secondly, as regards dancers' behavior, 64.8% of them continued dancing despite being injured, and that 31.9% took care of their injuries themselves, without any professional medical help. Finally, regarding the support and help a dance psychologist can provide, dancers considered positive the relaxation techniques, and their support when emotionally responding to injuries as well as in the psychosocial transition at the end of their professional career.

A population-based comparative study of health and health care utilization of Manitoba children in care with and without developmental disabilities

Population-based administrative data (2009-2012) from several sources were used to compare the health status and access to health services between a cohort of children in care with developmental disabilities (DD) (n=1,212) and a matched comparison group of children in care without DD (n=2,424). The two study groups were compared on a number of measures, including total respiratory morbidity, prevalence of diabetes, mood and anxiety disorders, continuity of care, injury-related hospitalizations, hospital-based dental care, and total number of ambulatory physician visits. Children in care with DD were significantly more likely to have a history of mood and anxiety disorders, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, hospital-based dental care, and injury-related hospitalizations compared to the matched comparison group. Children in care with DD also had significantly higher number of physician visits than children in the matched comparison group. No significant difference between the two study groups was found for continuity of care. / October 2015

Diese Dissertation untersucht die lexikalischen und morphosyntaktischen Eigenschaften polnischer und russischer Prädikatsnomina sowie der Kopula (des Kopulalexems). Sie stellt die Kasusvariation (Nominativ vs. Instrumental) sowie die Formvariation (Kurz- vs. Langformadjektiv) an diesen Prädikativen in den Mittelpunkt und hat das Ziel, ihre grammatische Quelle, Funktionsweise und Interpretation bzw. Lesart zu erklären. Dabei werden sowohl die primäre als auch die sekundäre Prädikation betrachtet. Im Rahmen der Formulierung der theoretischen Grundlagen wird ein Vorschlag gemacht, der es gestattet, den viel diskutierten Begriff "Prädikation" referenzsemantisch zu erfassen. Ferner wird vorgeschlagen, Flexionsmorphologie und Semantik (im Sinne von "grammatischer Bedeutung") voneinander zu trennen. In diesem Sinne leistet die vorgelegte Dissertation auch einen Beitrag zur Forschung über die Schnittstelle zwischen Morphosyntax und Semantik.
