[pt] A ASCENSÃO SOCIAL DE JOVENS UNIVERSITÁRIOS AFRODESCENDENTES NO BRASIL E ESTADOS UNIDOS / [en] THE UPWARD MOBILITY AMONG BLACK YOUTH STUDENTS IN BRAZIL AND U.SBRUNO COSTA LARRUBIA 15 August 2016 (has links)
[en] The aim of this study was investigate the projects and individual pathways of young African descendent, who seek in higher education, an efficient mechanism for social mobility. Based on the evidence pointed by previous studies of social mobility in Brazil and the United States, is primarily studied the route of young that are the first-generation college students. This research will examine the bureaucratization of the body s sense as key interpretive social ethos, which has in social mobility a central value. Thus, the embodiment of the signs of social distinction ultimately builds a habitus, associated with success and social prestige. In this sense, the present study proposes to conduct an ethnographic study with young African descendent students we can put into question the alleged predominance of assimilation behaviors, such as whiteness and the action White as the main route to social mobility. Will use chains of meanings, feeling and values, built on a unique combination of cultural factors that have in your body privileged locus of analysis. We analyze ultimately as the ascension project is linked to the dynamics of hierarchical and individualism ideology.

[pt] A RELAÇÃO ENTRE O PSICÓLOGO NEGRO E O CLIENTE BRANCO EM UM PAÍS RACISTA / [en] THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BLACK PSYCHOLOGIST AND THE WHITE CLIENT IN A RACIST COUNTRYROSANGELA FRANKLIN DOS S ROZANTE 23 May 2022 (has links)
A pesquisa, usando a plataforma online,
[en] The research aimed to study the intersubjective racial relations, arising
from the transferencial relationship between black psychologists and their white
clients. It considered the fact that social and clinical psychology, in several
research studies, has pointed to the need for psychologists to deal with racial
issues, present in their daily practice. The research used the online platform for
data collection, the clinical-qualitative methodology, with semi-structured
individual interviews, with 10 black clinical psychologists, based on Laurence
Bardin s Content Analysis method. It was noticed both the need to understand
racialization and the effects of racism manifested in psychic structures. The
possibilities of reflections on processes of intervention, for a psychology attentive
to the maintenance of mental health from the diversities and their singularities in

[pt] AS CRIANÇAS NEGRAS DA CASA DE SÃO JOSÉ NO RIO DE JANEIRO (1888-1916): RELAÇÕES RACIAIS NO DEBATE SOBRE A EDUCAÇÃO / [en] THE AFRO-BRAZILIAN CHILDREN FROM CASA DE SÃO JOSÉ IN RIO DE JANEIRO (1888 - 1916): A DISCUSSION ABOUT EDUCATION BASED ON RACIAL RELATIONSTHAYSA SEGAL CASELI 11 May 2021 (has links)
[en] The historiography of Brazilian education, in its traditional line, spread the
idea that Afro-Brazilians did not attend school until the nineteenth century. This
study particularly aims to investigate the relationship between the Afro-Brazilian
population and schooling, through the experience of the students from The Casa
de São José. From the documentary analysis of this institution’s records, a place
for professional training in Rio de Janeiro and created three months after Slavery
Abolition, it was possible to verify pupils´ racial profile development in this
institution, which, at the beginning, revealed a larger representation of Black over
White students. Based on Mattos (2013) and Müller (2003), the whitewashing in
the enrolments progress, after ten years of the institution’s foundation, was
understood on the one hand as a distancing strategy of slavery stigma and, on the
other hand, as whitewashing due to the creation of unannounced strategies that
prevented the access of people who distanced themselves from the desired
physical and cultural standards. Decolonial thoughts influenced the interpretation
of these given universalist practices, having in mind the Eurocentric power pattern
gradually built by colonizers and perpetuated even after decolonization, which
was held as an attempt of cultural, historical, social, political and economic
homogenization through the control structures using race as a basis of
classification.

Previous issue date: 2009-05-14 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The purpose of this study was to systematize and analyze the main
questions investigated in doctoral thesis and master s dissertations focused on
ethnic-racial relations and school curriculum, developed in Stricto Sensu Graduate
Programs in Education over the 1987-2006 period. In order to select the academic
works which became the object of our analysis, we have used CAPES
(Coordination of High-Level Personnel Training) thesis database. By means of this
survey, we could identify 187 studies focused on the analysis of ethnic-racial
relations with respect to the black population. From this framework of reference, we
have delimited our subject of interest to the analysis of the studies which discussed
ethnic-racial relations and school curriculums related to the basic education
provided by Brazilian official educational systems. The study on ethnic-racial
relations was based on authors such as Munanga (1996a, 2004a, 2004b); Gomes
(2004, 2005, 2007); Gonçalves & Silva (2000, 2004); Cavalleiro (2005a, 2005b);
Pinto (1987, 1993) and Silva (2001). The theoretical reasoning on the curriculum
has its sources in the works of authors such as Sacristán (1999, 2000a, 2000b),
Apple (1982), Giroux (1997) and McLaren (2000) which substantiated our selection
and analysis of academic works on ethnic-racial relations and school curriculums,
resulting in a total of 51 investigations. However, we had access to 29 studies in
which we used the content analysis method by means of categorical analysis
(BARDIN, 2008). As a result, the investigations were grouped into four categories:
black people in textbooks; ethnic-racial relations in the curriculum in action;
stereotypes, racial prejudice and racial discrimination in daily school life, and the
teaching of Africans and black Brazilians history and culture in school curriculums.
Finally, we have highlighted that discussions relating to ethnic-racial relations and
school curriculums offer valuable opportunities with regard to rethinking school / Este trabalho teve por objetivo sistematizar e analisar as principais
etnicorraciais, focando a população negra. Partindo desse universo, delimitamos
(1987, 1993) e Silva (2001). A reflexão teórica acerca do currículo sustentou-se
No entanto,
investigações foram agrupadas em quatro categorias: o negro nos livros didáticos;

Previous issue date: 2007-08-27 / The interest in developing this research firstly appeared because of my
participation in 2005, as teacher of Portuguese Language of São Paulo public state
schools in a program of continuous formation denominated São Paulo: Teaching
through Difference for the Equality , whose purpose is to insert, based in the Law nº.
10.639/03, the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African history and culture in primary and
secondary state schools curricula. Besides, because of subjects related to my African
origin. This study aims to describe the proposal of the program São Paulo: Teaching
through Difference for the Equality, happened from 2003 to 2006; as well as to identify
and characterize how their different participants express their view about their
formation process and the probable results in the treatment with the ethnic-racial
subjects in the school context. The data collection was accomplished from October
2006 to May 2007, by methodological procedures (oriented by the authors' study as
Bogdan & Biklen, Giovanni, Triviños and Selltiz et al) that included: a) accomplishment
of interviews (with the aid of semi-structured guidelines, built and tested) with 01
professional of CENP (Coordination of Norms and Pedagogic Studies), responsible for
the Program in the State General office of the Education of the State of São Paulo; 01
collaborator of CPDCNSP (Council of Participation and Development of the Black
Community of the State of São Paulo); 01 professor from UFSCar (Federal University
of São Carlos), responsible institution for the execution of the teachers' formation in the
state schools; 01 Pedagogic Technical assistant, responsible for the articulation of the
Program in one of the Administration Board of Teaching; 01 Pedagogic Coordinating
teacher, responsible for exchanging the information between the Administration Board
of Teaching and a school unit in the formative process; 01 primary teacher (from 1st to
4th grades) and 01 primary teacher (from 5th to 8th grades), that participated in the
Program of Continuous Education; b) accomplishment of analysis of documents
regarding the Pilot Project of the Program São Paulo: Teaching through Difference for
the Equality, the Law nº. 10.639/03 and the Resolution CNE/CP N. 1, of June 17, 2004,
that established the Curricula Guidelines for the Education of the Ethnic-racial
Relationships and for the Teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture.
The data were mapped and organized in syntheses charts, analyzed based on the
theoretical reference supplied by the authors' study as: Munanga, D Adesky, Peter
McLaren and others (concerning the concepts of race, racism, ethnic group, white
condition); Nóvoa, Giovanni, Marin and others (for the concepts of teachers' initial and
continuous formation and to orientate methodological decisions). it is an investigation
of descriptive-analytical and qualitative nature, of the proposal of the Program São
Paulo: Teaching through Difference for the Equality and how different participant
professionals express themselves about the Program, its operation and results. The
analysis of the information allowed the verification that the aspects enunciated by the
professionals, in relation to the developed process of continuous formation,
accomplished an initial stage towards the perception and understanding of the ethnicracial
subjects. Although that Program represents an innovative political initiative, it is

Previous issue date: 2008-05-06 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This research s aim is to study, from the pedagogical coordinator teacher s point of view, the teaching of African-Brazilian History and Culture subject, recently included in the curriculum of the state primary and secondary public schools Law 10.639/03 , which modifies the LDBN 9.394/06 Law of Guidelines and Bases of the National Education Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional. The main objective was to verify the pedagogical coordinator s comprehension towards the legal statements of the Law 10.639/03, that is, the ethnic-racial debate in the school context. Therefore, we intended to relate the coordinator s view about the possibilities and limits in the pedagogical treatment of the African matrix teaching, referring to the fulfillment of this legal mechanism. It is exploratory research that took place in a regional teaching directorship in the city of São Paulo. The data was collected from the anti-racism federal educational law and by means of questionnaire referring to African-Brazilians demands, culture and history answered by ten coordinators who had agreed to take part in the research. In order to analyze the articulation between the educational laws, pedagogical practices and racial relationships, concepts from the Critical Theory were chosen as theoretical reference, especially in relation to the analysis of prejudice, which aroused during the research procedures. After the data collection, we realized there was no straight relation between the coordinator s speech and practice because we could notice on their speech an apparent harmony that did not fit the subtle prejudice which does not allow them to break the barrier of invisibility before important aspects that characterize the multicultural education. This conclusion indicates that the possibilities brought by the educational law must be accompanied by social, educational, and individual conditions that are being built / O objetivo, neste trabalho, é estudar o ensino da História e Cultura Afro-Brasileira sob a óptica do professor coordenador.

no Brasil. Angela
aqueles anos. Lélia foi militante importante do movimento
negro brasileiro de finais
dos anos 1970, quando também participou ativamente luta
política pela
redemocratização do país. Minha discussão das obras dos
autores enfatiza as
[en] My goal with this thesis to present and compare the
trajectories and thoughts
of Angela Yvonne Davis (Alabama/USA, 1944) and Lélia
Almeida Gonzalez (Minas
Gerais/Brasil, 1935 - Rio de Janeiro/Brasil, 1994) - both
women intellectuals and
activists of the Black movements in the US and Brazil.
Angela became internationally
known in the 1960s as a Black struggle symbol in the US.
The impact of her figure
still lingers on in the memory of those who lived in those
years. Lélia was an
important activist in the Brazilian Black movement of the
late 1970s, when she
intensively took part in the political struggle for the
return of democracy in Brazil.
My discussion of the authors´ main works emphasizes the
theoretical essays they
developed on the social insertion of black women in their
countries. It specially
highlights the debate forwarded on black women experiences
under slavery.
Throughout the thesis I call attention for the
contribution of their conceptual legacy
for contemporary studies on racial relations.

[pt] O PARAÍSO VISTO DO NORTE: RAÇA E DIREITO NAS COMPARAÇÕES ENTRE BRASIL E ESTADOS UNIDOS (1833-1947) / [en] PARADISE AS SEEN FROM THE NORTH: RACE, LAW AND COMPARISONS BETWEEN BRAZIL AND UNITED STATES (1833-1947)BRUNA PORTELLA DE NOVAES 16 May 2023 (has links)
Perseguir a história
sujeitos históricos produtores dessa visão do Eldorado brasileiro. Esses
impeditiva do acesso a cargos militares, eclesiásticos e políticos.
permaneceram. / [en] Comparative charts between Brazil and the United States race relations
abound in the field of racial studies and comparative history. But the practice of
comparing these two societies goes beyond the strictly academic milieu. Drawing
up a local view based on comparisons with other parts of the world is a common
practice in the Atlantic circulation of individuals and ideas. Thus, it is possible to
find discourses that systematically oppose Brazil and the United States since the
19th century, whose authors are quite diverse. This thesis seeks to delve into this
comparative universe based on a specific guideline: North American visions of a
Brazilian racial paradise. The racial paradise consists of the mirage of an idyllic
society with two great characteristics: a softer slave system; the absence of legal
racial barriers. Pursuing the history of the co-authors of the racial paradise means,
therefore, entering the long history of racial democracy, which goes back to
dynamics that precede its naming and subsequent denunciation as a myth. Based on
the bibliographic review and access to primary sources – such as the press, letters
and speeches – historical subjects who produced this vision of the Brazilian
Eldorado were identified and analyzed. These interlocutors are arranged in four
main periods, between 1833 and 1947: starting with the immediate abolitionists of
the pre-Civil War, in 1833; then post-Civil War abolitionists in 1865; in the 1920s,
the subjects are black activists who were enthusiastic about migrating to Brazil;
Finally, spanning the 1920s to 1947, there are Gilberto Freyre and Frank
Tannenbaum, responsible for the scientific consolidation of the racial paradise. The
broad sample goes back to the moments of creation and consolidation of the idea of
racial democracy, before its increasing colapse during the second half of the 20th
century. The objective is to analyze how these subjects, when portraying Brazil as
a racial paradise, presented the legal aspects of this idyllic society. It is immediately
concluded that the two dimensions that characterize the racial paradise are quite
intricate with the law. On the one hand, the notion of soft slavery is supported by
the news of a high rate of manumissions, which would have been made possible by
norms and institutions systematically favorable to freedom. On the other hand, the
image of a society in which free black men and women would not have any racial
barrier against them often uses the absence of a law preventing access to military,
ecclesiastical and political positions as a defining parameter. But in addition to the
endorsement, during the long trajectory of US discourses on racial paradise, there
were movements to contest this same image, and in them legal criticism proved to
be a central argument. From the strategic polyvalence of the speeches, it was
understood that law and race were associated by subjects in a wide political
spectrum, but even if the tactical signs were inverted, elements of continuity
remained.
