Inside perspectives on critique against The Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society in the wake of war in contemporary Europe. : A qualitative study.

Asknert, Albin January 2024 (has links)
This thesis engages with perception, interpretation, consequences, and management of critique as experienced by members of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society (SFSF), in the context following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Sweden’s choice to accede to NATO. The aim is to get an inside perspective in to how the members experience this phenomenon. It does so by employing qualitative interviews, participant observations, and analysis of relevant literature. The grounds for criticism against peace organisations are believed to stem from differing understandings on what peace is, and how it could be achieved, the critique is then made salient through different processes, congruent with securitization of issues. The study contributes to the field of peace and conflict studies as it highlights discrepancies in the understandings of peace and the friction that it creates. The study finds that the members of SFSF finds their opinions and non-violent values are being marginalized as they attempt to problematise the causes and potential solutions to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and their resistance to NATO-membership. They interpret the criticism as stemming from lacking opportunities for public engagement, suspicion and fear, and non-critical and biased media representations. This leads to the risk of self-censorship, difficulties in transmitting their messages, but also an increase in organisational memberships. The members realise the particularity of the situation and how it affects their opportunities, yet they find solace in beliefs of their current and future importance concerning the ambitions for international peace.

Crossing Paths and Impactful Bonds : Exploring Player-Character Relationships in Animal Crossing and Genshin Impact

Kovalenko, Daniil, van Tilborg, Guus January 2024 (has links)
This thesis research explores the patterns of player-character relationships and player-character attachment in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2020) and Genshin Impact (2020). The purpose of the paper is to fill in the existing gap in the literature concerning the psychological and social mechanisms of attachment that players form with non-customizable game characters. The research explores the nature of player-character attachment in its relation to game mechanics and broader social context, as well as its transformative potential.   The research relies on interdisciplinary mixed-methods methodology, drawing from the fields of psychology and anthropology. The first part of the research employs auto-ethnographic data on the authors' personal relationships with game characters. The second part involves a series of qualitative in-depth interviews with players of Animal Crossing and Genshin Impact. Thematic analysis with the elements of case-study methodology is applied to the interview data. The results of the interview analysis are compared between the two player groups, as well as to the findings of the auto-ethnographic inquiry. The main results of the comparative analysis suggest that players’ perceptions of characters in the studied games can be categorized as character-as-object and character-as-other. Further on, a distinction can be made between two types of attachment that players form with characters-as-others. The first one is player-for-character, focused primarily on a player’s relatedness and empathy towards a character. The second one is character-for-player, where a game character is perceived as a supporting and caring figure that transcends the boundaries of the game. The relationship types are not mutually exclusive, and both of them have been found to have transformative potential.

Miller-Andersson, Sandra January 2024 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the after-school staff's perspectives on their strategies for promoting peer relationships for students with autism. Previous research has shown that children and young people with autism have difficulties linked to the diagnosis, which make social interaction and the maintenance of peer relationships difficult. The study used qualitative semi-structured interviews with eight after-school professionals. The interviews were analyzed using interpretive phenomenology to make the respondents' individual experiences visible. To interpret and discuss the results this study used the sociocultural theory, the four levels of relational perspective and Nilholm's perspective on inclusion. The phenomenological analysis of the data resulted in four different themes; The after-school staff's view of relationships for all students in the after-school center, the after-school staff's view of relationships for students with autism, the after-school staff's view of strategies to promote relationships for students with autism and the after-school staff's view of difficulties in building relationships within the after-school center. In the results, the after-school staff describe the importance of having peer relationships and be given the opportunity to participate in activities for all students within the after-school center and the activities need to be adapted to everyone. However, there were two respondents who problematized the idea of inclusion in that the group's needs can be overlooked when an activity needs to be adapted. In the results the respondents discussed that there were different difficulties among students with autism and, these difficulties had an impact on the social interaction and peer relationships. They also lifted differences between the sexes. The strategies that the after-school staff highlighted to support peer relationships for students with autism were about providing adult support in activities and individual solutions depending on which student they met. The results also show that there are aggravating circumstances regarding the work with relationships within the after-school center, some of the respondents described staff shortages, large student groups, the lack of planning time and lack of competence to meet students with autism. Overall, this study contributes with knowledge about peer relationships in relation to students with autism and which working methods may be suitable to support these students in the after-school center, as previous research in relationships connected to autism and after-school centers is limited.

From hospital to home: a mixed methods exploration of post-discharge medicines management for older people living with long-term conditions

Tomlinson, Justine January 2020 (has links)
There are numerous threats to medication safety at care transitions, which are heightened for older people, because they live with multiple long-term conditions as well as polypharmacy, and have frequent hospital admissions. Whilst evidence of the severity and scale of these medicines-related problems exists, there is insufficient detail about the lived experience of post-discharge medicines management, in particular what helps or what hinders, and how better support could be enabled. This thesis, underpinned by the Medicines Research Council framework for complex intervention design, aimed to find acceptable intervention components, which would enhance patient experience. This research followed a sequential, mixed method design to: establish the evidence base through critical literature review, develop theory using an interview study grounded in behaviour change theory, and finally to model potential intervention components by expert consensus. Interviews revealed that there were gaps in current service provision, which impacted on participants’ knowledge of and capabilities with their medicines. Despite these challenges, some participants took actions to safeguard from problems after discharge. The literature review found that effective components of trialled interventions were self-management advice, post-discharge telephone follow up and medicines reconciliation. Further behaviour change techniques from the literature, alongside expert consensus and theory-driven analysis of interview findings resulted in final selection of eight potential components. Real-world implementation of these must be coupled with key changes to current healthcare practices and policy, including better engagement with patients and carers, as well as pro-active post-discharge follow-up. Future work must carefully explore how these components can be tested pragmatically.

Missionale Ansprechbarkeit ostdeutscher Konfessionsloser : eine qualitative Untersuchung am Beispiel der Treffen der "Nonamechurch" in Parchim / The missional receptiveness of the "non-churched" in Eastern Germany : a qualitative analysis using the example of the meetings of the "no-name church" in Parchim

Baumann, Roland 11 1900 (has links)
In this research work the missional receptiveness of the non-churched in eastern Germany is examined qualitatively using the example of the meetings of the “no-name” church. The goal of the study is to find out what motivates the non-churched to attend Christian meetings, and to recognize patterns/indicators behind the motivation. For this the context of the non-churched in eastern Germany is first highlighted and the structure of the missional church described. Based on the empirical-theological practice cycle, both planning and execution as well as the results of qualitative interviews carried out with ten visitors to the meetings of the “no-name” church planting initiative are then presented. As a result of repeated coding using the Grounded Theory, five typologies of the non-churched can be highlighted. On the basis of the research results, hypotheses for the missional reachability of the non-churched are formulated and challenges for the practical application indicated. This study wants to contribute to a better understanding of the problems of the reachability of the non-churched in eastern Germany. It shows the strengths and weaknesses of the missional church model which should be taken into account in this context. Freizeit und Mission: Eine empirisch-theologische Arbeit uber den Einfluss von christlicher Freizeitarbeit auf die Glaubensgenese Jugendlicher am Beispiel von SOLA / Recreation and mission: an empirical-theological study of the impact Christian camps have on the emergence of faith of young people based on the example of SOLA

Weiss, Siegfried Eckart 02 1900 (has links)
This research paper analyzes the impact Christian recreational activities have on the emergence of young people’s faith. Using the example of SOLA, the analysis is based on empiric-theological research. Young people, whose faith has emerged through SOLA were interviewed qualitatively. The data retrieved was analyzed using the grounded theory method by Breuer (2009) and put into relation to the theories of Engel (1989), Grom (1992) and Zulehner (2008) about how faith emerges. Furthermore, these results were applied to the individual elements available through the organization of camps. The outcomes the author has established are of assistance to all parties involved in the organization of christian recreational activities, who want to improve their programs toward impacting the emergence of faith in their participants. They would never put an ugly guy there” : Young men on the image of men in magazines

Voksepp, Patrice, Paulsen, Eva January 2005 (has links)
Our study aims to discover how young men aged 15-19 perceive the image of men in women’s magazines. To do this we let eight young men read the two women’s magazines most read by young women their own age, Vecko Revyn and Cosmopolitan. We want to find whether they consider this image to be representative of their own reality. We are also interested in their opinion when it comes to possible consequences of this image as well as their ideas on how men should be portrayed. We used a combination of different methods. First, we used introspection by letting each of the young men note down their thoughts in a diary while reading the magazines. We then used qualitative interviews to further explore their opinions. We applied the method of phenomenology to our research, which allowed us to concentrate solely on the young men’s experiences without regard to our own opinions or interpretations. Our study shows that the majority of the young men in our study consider the image of men in magazines to be stereotyped, sexualized and lacking in complexity. They express a wish to see more ordinary men as well as different sides of men. Also, there is an interesting contradiction between the young men’s ideals which are very traditionally masculine and their criticism of these values being portrayed in the magazines. Furthermore, there is a noticeable gap in insight between the 15-year olds and the other young men. The youngest two alone accept the image of men in the magazines. All of the young men deny that they are affected by the image of men in the magazines, though they express their concern that other, weaker individuals as well as young women may be affected.

Från lindrigt utvecklingsstörd till förälder : En studie om socionmers förhållningssätt i arbete med föräldrar diagnostiserade med lindrig utvecklingsstörning / From focusing on mild intellectual disability to being a parent : A study of social workers’ approach in work with parents diagnosed with mild intellectual disability.

Ali, Ajnur, Sargsyan, Araksya January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe and analyse social workers’ approach in working with parents with mild intellectual disability. The study intends to find out if work approach is related to position and type of organisation. The data consists of six semi structured interviews with social workers from three different organisations that in work meet parents with mild intellectual disability. These organisations were Vuxenhabiliteringen, LSS and Individ- and Familjeomsorgen. In addition, an interview with a researcher that has expert knowledge in development for parents with mild intellectual disability was done. In the analysis the experiences of social workers were linked to organizational tasks and importance of cooperation. The study purposed to analyse the result from two theoretical perspectives; street- level bureaucracy and human-service organisations. The result shows that social workers in the organisations have different approaches dependent on what organisation they work in and the role and working tasks they have in work. The study also indicated how the organisations and their tasks affected the parenthood for persons with mild intellectual disabled parents.
