Native American Early Adolescents Response to a Cultural-Based Prevention for ObesityUnknown Date (has links)
Over the past 30 years, obesity has increased rapidly as an epidemic and major
public health concern in the United Stated, particularly among Native American children
and adolescents. Native American adolescents have the highest prevalence rates of
obesity of all ethnic groups in the United States. Although there has been an increasing
effort to develop and evaluate obesity prevention programs for children and adolescents,
very little attention has been devoted to understanding culturally effective approaches for
ethnic populations. There is a significant gap in the research literature regarding effective
obesity intervention and prevention studies for Native American children and
adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of a culturally based talking
circle approach, KCTC-O, for the prevention of obesity among early adolescent Native
American (Keetoowah-Cherokee) and to examine the relationships between Cherokee self-reliance; perceived stress levels; and obesity knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. A
7-week intervention in which a 2-condition quasi-experimental design was implemented
to compare the KCTC-O experimental condition with a standard school health education
(SE) control condition on three outcome variables (Cherokee self-reliance; perceived
stress levels; and obesity knowledge, attitudes, and behavior at pre- and post-intervention.
A total sample of 100 participants were recruited for this study, 50 participants per
condition. The participants were distributed almost evenly in terms of gender: 55 females
compared to 45 males for both groups combined. Participants ranged in ages from 10 to
13, with a mean age of 11.5 years of age, and ranged in grades from 4 through 7, with
Grade 6 being the most frequently reported grade in school. The results of this study
revealed the effectiveness of the KCTC-O condition was not significantly greater than the
SE condition. However, although not statistically significant, the results of this study
provided some evidence that a culturally based intervention was slightly more effective
for the prevention of obesity than a non-culturally based intervention for Native
American early adolescents. This study helps to validate the need for more robust obesity
prevention programs from a cultural perspective among Native American early

escolar como categoria histórica, redimensionada, sobretudo, nas últimas décadas
do século XX. Para atingir o foco do estudo, primeiramente faz-se um breve histórico
sobre o processo educacional, observando seus avanços e retrocessos até chegar
aos dias atuais. Neste trabalho há o reconhecimento da violência como uma questão
estrutural, expressão da contradição capital-trabalho-Estado, na perspectiva de que
a desigualdade social é um campo profícuo para as diversas formas de
manifestação da violência. Neste contexto, a escola, como instituição de ensino,
reproduz as relações contraditórias presentes nas demais instâncias sociais. A
pesquisa quanti-qualitativa visa, também, analisar como o profissional de Serviço
Social posiciona-se no tocante a essa questão e, ainda, o papel do Estado nesse
processo. O presente estudo objetiva investigar a configuração da violência histórica
e estrutural no espaço escolar, como uma das expressões da questão social e como
ela é tratada pelos sujeitos da pesquisa. Como objetivos específicos, busca
apreender as situações de violência no espaço do Colégio Estadual Parque
Amazônia em Goiânia Goiás, conhecer as estratégias utilizadas no enfrentamento
das situações de violência, analisar o trabalho desenvolvido pelo Serviço Social
referente à violência escolar, Identificar o instrumental teórico-metodológico que o
Serviço Social disponibiliza para a atuação da sua profissional no contexto das
escolas.

Este texto pretende investigar quais paradigmas pautaram as políticas de acolhimento de crianças e adolescentes no Brasil, no século XX e início do XXI, através do conceito de paradigma de dois autores; Roberto da Silva e Sylvia Constant Vergara, analisando um serviço de acolhimento específico: a Casa Crescer e Brilhar de São Vicente - SP e se o serviço de acolhimento analisado, está conseguindo implementar as mudanças introduzidas pela doutrina de proteção integral e pelo Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente - ECA. Para isso, buscamos a história da Casa Crescer e Brilhar, uma instituição fundada em 1974 para abrigar crianças e adolescentes em situação irregular, conforme a legislação vigente na época. Utilizamos atas das reuniões de diretoria da instituição, através da metodologia da análise de conteúdo. Encontramos situações que apontam graduais conquistas no atendimento da entidade, cumprindo com o que determina a legislação, principalmente no contato e reaproximação com as famílias, no exercício do direito ao lazer e preparação para o mundo do trabalho. A instabilidade dos convênios com o município e os editais de fomento que propiciam recursos financeiros, desgastam a equipe técnica e a diretoria, mas foram responsáveis por boa parte das conquistas. A falta de políticas públicas no município para a saúde, educação e habitação, alimentam ciclos de acolhimento institucional de crianças e adolescentes de famílias pobres / This text intends to investigate which paradigms guided the policies for the reception of children and adolescents in Brazil, in the twentieth century and the beginning of the XXI, through the paradigm concept of two authors; Roberto da Silva and Sylvia Constant Vergara, analyzing a specific reception service: Casa Crescer e Shine of São Vicente - SP and if the host service analyzed, is managing to implement the changes introduced by the doctrine of integral protection and by the Statute of the Child and of Adolescents - ECA. For this, we look for the history of Casa Crescer e Shine, an institution founded in 1974 to house children and adolescents in an irregular situation, according to the legislation in force at the time. We use minutes of the board meetings of the institution, through the methodology of content analysis. We find situations that indicate gradual achievements in the care of the entity, complying with what determines the legislation, mainly in the contact and rapprochement with the families, in the exercise of the right to leisure and preparation for the world of work. The instability of the agreements with the municipality and the funding announcements that provide financial resources, wear out the technical team and the board, but were responsible for most of the achievements. The lack of public policies in the municipality for health, education and housing, feed institutional cycles of children and adolescents from poor families

social assistance, with an absolutely recent approach, marked by years since 2005,
and how is the sharing of such systems among federal entities under the Unique
System of Social Services SUAS ( Sistema Único de Assistência Social). Based on
field study, we took as an example the case of State of São Paulo and, therefore, the
State Department that manages the National Policy on Social Services and three
counties, Jacareí, Sao Jose dos Campos and Louveira, besides the National Agency of
Social Services SNAS (Secretaria Nacional de Assistência Social).
The study revealed that there is strong correlation between the size of the
municipality and their installed capacities, especially infrastructural, encompassing
human and financial resources; and in this sense, the best installed conditions were
also resulted in affirmative application of technological resources in the policy
management and therefore, of the SUAS.
It was confirmed that the state and municipal information systems are more
fragile than those produced at the federal level; however, its effectiveness depends
on the mass participation of the municipal entity, especially in the registry and data
imputation. Information systems are more appropriated to the solution of responses
to the TICs projects for which they were created, and in this sense, although the
systems designed in the municipal level are more precarious than others, certainly
give more usefulness for policy management in this context.
The genesis of the construction of information systems at the federal and state
levels is marked by the attention of immediate needs and oriented to justify the
transference of resources from the Social Services funds. The content of the
information provided by these systems are still of low quality to the municipal level,
although being the main executor of welfare services / Esta tese trata de estudo acerca dos sistemas de informação em uso na área de
assistência social, de recorte absolutamente recente, marcado pelos anos que
sucederam a 2005, e de como se dá o compartilhamento desses sistemas entre os
entes federados no âmbito do Sistema Único de Assistência Social - SUAS. Mediante
estudo de campo, tomou-se como exemplo o caso do Estado de São Paulo e,
portanto, da Secretaria Estadual gestora da Política de Assistência Social e de três
municípios paulistas, Jacareí, São José dos Campos e Louveira; além da Secretaria
Nacional de Assistência Social SNAS.
O estudo revelou que há forte correlação entre o porte do município e suas
capacidades instaladas, especialmente infraestruturais, englobando recursos
humanos e financeiros; nesse sentido, as melhores condições instaladas traduziramse
também em afirmativa aplicação de recursos tecnológicos no âmbito da gestão da
política e, por conseguinte, do SUAS.
Verificou-se que os sistemas de informação municipais e estaduais são mais
frágeis do que aqueles produzidos em âmbito federal; contudo, a sua efetivação
depende da participação massiva do ente municipal, especialmente no registro e
imputação de dados. Os sistemas de informação se prestam mais adequadamente à
solução de respostas para os projetos de TICs para os quais forma criados, nesse
sentido, embora os sistemas desenhados em âmbito municipal sejam mais precários
do que os demais, certamente conferem mais serventia para a gestão da política neste
âmbito.
A gênese da construção dos sistemas de informação de âmbito federal e
estadual é marcada pela atenção de necessidades imediatistas e orientada para
justificativa na transferência de recursos dos fundos da Assistência Social. O teor das
informações disponibilizadas por estes sistemas ainda são de baixa qualidade ao
municipal, embora principal executor dos serviços de proteção social

object in this doctoral study choosing as its theme "Social Justice and the Law in the
formation and work of the Social Service." Thus, we have established as main objective to
analyze the effectiveness of knowledge of the law and social justice in the formation of the
social worker. Specific objectives, analyze the content related to learning of Law and Social
Justice in the training of social work; analyze related curricular changes to the law shaping
the course of social work since the creation of the first school of education at the college
level (1936) to the present; and study the socio-historical processes of change which entailed
changes in the formation of the Social Service course. Our purpose is to initiate a broader
analysis of the knowledge of law in social work, thus contributing to further exploit this area of
knowledge.
The research conducted is of virtual nature and results allowed us to understand how is the
instrumentality of the Law on Social Services. The main concern was to establish the
relationship between the law and the law is taught in Social Work presenting a proposal for
feasibility of the theoretical and practical approach in the profession through the critical law / Aproveitando nossa dupla formação, colocamo-nos ao mesmo tempo como
sujeito e objeto neste estudo doutoral escolhendo como tema a “Justiça Social e o
Direito no processo de formação e de trabalho do Serviço Social”. Assim,
estabelecemos como objetivo geral analisar a efetivação dos conhecimentos relativos
ao Direito e à Justiça Social na formação do Assistente Social. Como objetivos
específicos, analisar os conteúdos relacionados ao aprendizado do Direito e da
Justiça Social na formação profissional do Serviço Social; analisar as mudanças
curriculares correlatas ao Direito que conformam o curso de Serviço Social desde a
criação da primeira escola de formação em nível superior (1936) até a atualidade; e
estudar os processos de mudança sócio-históricos que ensejaram alterações na
formação do curso de Serviço Social. Nosso propósito consiste em iniciar uma análise
mais ampliada sobre os conhecimentos do Direito no Serviço Social contribuindo,
desta forma, para um aproveitamento maior desta área de saber.
A pesquisa que realizamos é de natureza virtual e os resultados permitiram
compreender como se dá a instrumentalidade do Direito no Serviço Social. A
preocupação central consistiu em estabelecer a relação entre o Direito e o direito que
se ensina no Serviço Social apresentando uma proposta de viabilidade para a
aproximação teórica e prática na profissão por intermédio do Direito crítico

La protection sociale au Sénégal : l'exemple des ouvriers du bâtiment à Dakar / social protection in Senegal : the example of construction workers in DakarDiallo, Mamadou Aguibou 22 January 2014 (has links)
Cette thèse porte sur la protection sociale des professionnels du bâtiment au Sénégal et plus particulièrement sur l’analyse du risque santé et de sa prise en charge chez les ouvriers à Dakar. Elle tente d’apporter des réponses à des interrogations portant sur les risques au travail, les besoins d’assurance santé et les stratégies de recours aux soins des travailleurs du bâtiment et de leurs familles. La recherche, à la fois qualitative et quantitative s’appuie sur une enquête auprès de 540 ouvriers et sur une dizaine d’entretiens avec les acteurs de la protection sociale. Elle montre d’une part, que la couverture maladie dans le secteur du bâtiment est très faible (environ 5%) et la prise en charge assez limitée (soins primaires), et d’autre part que le régime sénégalais de prévoyance santé à travers la Caisse de sécurité sociale, les Institutions de Prévoyance Maladie (IPM) et les mutuelles de santé, connaît de nombreux dysfonctionnements qui l’empêchent d’être efficace et viable. L’étude révèle que globalement les ouvriers du bâtiment ne connaissent pas la sécurité sociale ; ils ont recours aux structures publiques de santé en cas de maladies ou d’accidents. Toutefois, ils sont conscients des risques dans leur métier et utilisent largement des équipements de protection lorsque ceux-ci sont mis à leur disposition. Enfin, les ouvriers sont les principaux financiers de la santé dans le ménage. Cependant, à cause de la faiblesse de leurs revenus et du coût de la couverture santé, ils sont pratiquement dans l’impossibilité de souscrire à une assurance. Ils préfèrent payer les mêmes prestations dans les structures publiques de santé à des coûts moins élevés. / This thesis examines the social security system for construction industry workers in Senegal with a focus on health risks and benefits in Dakar. It attempts answer questions concerning the risk of accidents at the workplace, health insurance needs and strategies deployed by workers and their families to obtain health care. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analyses of 540 interviews of workers and of 10 providers of social and health services, this study reveals that health coverage is very poor (about 5%) and often limited to elementary care and that coverage by other actors such as the Social Security System, Preventive Health Institutions and mutual insurance plans are neither effective nor efficient. This study shows that Senegalese construction workers have no real social security; they use public institutions when they are victims of accidents or are sick. However, they are aware of the risks associated with their jobs and seek protection when it is available. Finally, workers are the main health providers for their families. Yet, because of very modest income and exorbitant health costs, they are virtually incapable to take out insurance and opt to pay for services in public institutions which are less expensive.

Previous issue date: 2016-03-07 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The work of the social worker in the social legal system is scheduled to be directed by the demands of the institution in which the professional is inserted, an integral part of the symbolic ritual that takes place in the internal processes of the judiciary; such proceedings are intended to induce a feeling of "doing justice", and are expressed in its most complete form, by the decision of the Judge. In this context, in preparing reports and technical advice to assist the magistrate, the social worker is integrated into the judicial apparatus. On Juvenile Justice, with respect to proceedings regarding infractions such symbolic rituals have repercussions that are observed in the form in which the treatment of adolescents in conflict with the law by judicial actors. Sometimes the indifference to the real needs of adolescents is perceived in the way these voice is stifled before the Power and Institutional Violence Demonstrations in socio-juridical spaces. This study revolves around the role of the social worker in the Forum of sticks Specials for Children and Youth of São Paulo, highlighting the "Light Project Youth" noting the possibilities, by the team Judicial Technical Social Services, this Forum , to overcome an apparent complicity condition to the capitalist state domination project, a condition that emerges, albeit unintentionally, when its performance is mixed to all other internal processes of the judiciary, following only the demands imposed themselves institutionally. The Project being built by social workers in this sociojurídico environment, it is observed that these, drawing on his professional relative autonomy, seek to make a critical and emancipatory action within the judicial apparatus, starting from a professional practice that seeks the development of reflexive movements in the bias of critical theory, the subjects objects of intervention, stressing, therefore, the privileged position of mediation through art in this process. With this practice, the professionals seek to build new proposals intervening for their professional activities at the same time assume a position of resistance to the conditions imposed by a domination project, which is consistent with the proposed construction of a new social order , as shown in Ethical-Political Project of the social worker / O trabalho do assistente social no sistema sociojurídico é marcado por ser direcionado pelas demandas da instituição na qual o profissional está inserido, sendo este, parte integrante dos rituais simbólicos que tem lugar nos processos internos do Poder Judiciário; tais processos têm como finalidade provocar a sensação do fazer justiça , e se expressam, em sua forma mais acabada, através da decisão do Juiz. Neste contexto, ao elaborar laudos e pareceres técnicos para assessorar ao magistrado, o assistente social está integrado ao aparato Judiciário. Na Justiça Juvenil, no que tange aos processos referentes a atos infracionais, tais rituais simbólicos têm rebatimentos que são observados na forma como se dá o tratamento aos adolescentes em conflito com a lei pelos atores do Judiciário. Por vezes, a indiferença diante das reais necessidades dos adolescentes é percebida na forma como a voz destes é sufocada ante as demonstrações de Poder e Violência Institucional nos espaços sociojurídicos. Este estudo se dá em torno da atuação do assistente social no Fórum das Varas Especiais da Infância e Juventude de São Paulo, com destaque para o Projeto Iluminar Juvenil , observando as possibilidades, por parte da Equipe Técnica Judiciária de Serviço Social, deste Fórum, para se ultrapassar uma aparente condição de cumplicidade ao projeto de dominação do Estado Capitalista, condição que emerge, ainda que involuntariamente, quando sua atuação se mescla a todos os demais processos internos do Judiciário, seguindo apenas às demandas a si impostas institucionalmente. No projeto profissional que está sendo construído pelos assistentes sociais neste ambiente sociojurídico, observa-se que estes, valendo-se de sua autonomia relativa profissional, buscam realizar uma ação crítica e emancipadora, dentro do aparato do Judiciário, a partir de uma prática profissional que procura o desenvolvimento de movimentos reflexivos, no viés da teoria crítica, nos sujeitos objetos da intervenção, destacando, para tanto, a posição privilegiada da mediação através da arte neste processo. Com essa prática, os profissionais buscam a construção de novas propostas interventivas para sua atuação profissional ao mesmo tempo em que assumem uma posição de resistência às condições impostas por um projeto de dominação, o que vai ao encontro da proposta de construção de uma nova ordem societária, como se apresenta no Projeto Ético-Político do Assistente Social

Social workers make decisions about client’s treatment. Problems arise when these assessments are not based on different needs, but rather a result of different biases towards gender. The purpose of this thesis is to study social workers in the addiction treatment field’s reasoning behind their justification concerning gender differences in their work. We used a vignette as a common reference for two group interviews and one individual interview, which were carried out on a social service office and an outpatient clinic. The interviews resulted in three forms of legitimacy: organizational requirements, professionalism and the will to do right. Organizational requirements refer to social workers relying on guidelines and research to justify their actions. Professionalism means that social workers reinforce their reasoning through previous experiences or other profession’s knowledge. The will to do right refers to the determination to live up to the ideals of society. Participants struggle with a complex and sometimes conflicting task, and to act justifiable they use reasoning based on different premises. The social workers are motivated and educated on the subject, and their goal is to make assessments based on individual needs. But it appears to be difficult to fully utilize these skills in practice

The aim of my diploma thesis was to find out what extent there is to the awareness of emergency care service in the Prachatice territorial administrative district. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with the emergency care service itself, with the issue of aging, with the needs and life quality of aging people. The qualitative part of the research used the method of a semi-structured interview. Data was analysed via the grounded theory methodology. Ten informants were interviewed. The research file consisted of municipality mayors or responsible workers of municipal offices. Quantitative research has shown that respondents were aware of social services, however, only 25 % were aware of the emergency care service. The interviews also proved that most informants were aware of available social services within Prachatice, however, only a minimum of informants were aware of the specific emergency care service. Acquired information may be useful not only for students of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, but they may as well improve wider population´s awareness, perhaps they may be used within community planning in the individual municipalities of Prachatice.
