Demokratiteoretiska ideal av politiskt deltagande synliggörs i undervisningen : En kvalitativ studie om lärares utsagor om politiskt deltagande i sin undervisning / Democratic theoretic ideals of political participation are made visible in teaching

The forms of political participation is changing and the number of members of political parties and organizations decreases and even faster in youth assossiations. Though studies show that the political interest among youths are high and that they participate politically in other ways. The school as a whole must therefore adapt the teaching as society changes, which places new demands on participation. This survey focuses on three upper secondary school teachers who teach the subject of civic studies and are conducted with kvalitative semi-structured interviews. The purpose of the study is to find out which teaching in democracy that the teachers pursue against society's demands for new forms of participation. The analysis of the interviews are performed with theories of ideal participation democratic models. The theory models are, electoral ideal model, demoratic participation ideal model and deliberative democratic ideal. The teachers' perception of students' political participation is also of interest and is analyzed based on Ekman and Linde's definition table on political activity. The semi-structured interviews has generated useful data that is presented in the Result-chapter. The main conclusion that the study has landed in is that the teachers whom has participated, mainly are making the democratic electoral ideal model visible in their class room for participation. Teachers’ perception of students’ political participation varies. / Formerna för politiskt deltagande står i förändring och antalet medlemmar i politiska partier och organisationer sjunker och desto snabbare i ungdomsförbund. Studier visar dock att det politiska intresset bland unga är stort och att de deltar i det politiska på andra sätt. Skolan som helhet måste därför anpassa undervisningen i takt med att samhället förändras som ställer nya krav på deltagande. Den här undersökningen fokuserar på tre gymnasielärare som undervisar i ämnet samhällskunskap och genomförs med kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer. Studiens syfte är att ta reda på vilken undervisning i demokrati som lärarna bedriver mot samhällets krav på nya deltagandeformer. Analysen av intervjuerna görs med teoridemokratiska idealmodeller för deltagande vilka synliggörs i undervisningen enligt lärarna själva. Valdemokratisk idealmodell, deltagardemokratisk idealmodell samt deliberativt demokratiideal. Lärarnas uppfattning om elevers politiska deltagande är också av intresse och analyseras baserat på Ekman och Lindes definitionstabell om politisk aktivitet. De semistrukturerade intervjuerna har genererat användbart material som presenteras i resultatkapitlet och slutsatserna har landat i att de medverkande lärarna synliggör till största del en valdemokratisk idealmodell för deltagande. Lärares uppfattning om elevers politiska deltagande varierar.

The subject of this master thesis is the school library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the school library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School Library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the school library is used or rather not used in school. To help us fulfil the purpose we have three questions:What role should the School Library have in school’s democratic assignment?a)What does the democratic assignment consist of?b)How is the School Library’s role described in the regulative documents of school and library activities and in IFLA/Unesco’s School Library Manifesto?The analysis is done by trying to interpret what’s said and what’s implicit. According to this master thesis the school library is not a natural part of school society and the existence of a school library is very much dependent on the headmasters view on school libraries. The purpose of the present thesis is to investigate the interaction between the branches in the different villages and its users and the importance of the branches for democracy. To illustrate these points, I have focused on Högsby municipality, a local council in Kalmar county. Högsby municipality is of particular interest in this connection, since all seven of the branches have been closed recently; only the main library remains. Moreover, three of the closed branches were, in 2005, taken over by citizen organizations local to the part of Högsby municipality where the libraries were located. The specific issues that were addressed were:- What needs were satisfied by the local libraries in Högsby council and is it possible to satisfy these needs in other ways and then, how?- Does the absence of a local library affect democracy?Interviews were performed. Protocols from council meetings and newspaper articles have been studied and supplemented with statistical information from “Statistics Sweden” and “Swedish Art Council”. Although no general conclusions can be reached on basis of the present investigation it is reasonable to presume that the situation as regards local libraries in other parts of Sweden exhibits similarities to the situation in Högsby municipality. Thus, it seems likely that the local libraries fulfil important functions as centra of knowledge, culture and information and as meeting place, but to varying degrees depending on the local circumstances. If the local libraries fulfil their roles in these contexts it is very likely that they also are very important for the democracy.

The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate if the mobile library has a similar role as the public library. To study this further we intend to examine the value and function of the mobile library. Answers are sought to the following questions: Can the mobile library be seen as a public library in a smaller scale? How do the users experience the value and function of the mobile library? What does the library staff think of the value and function of the mobile library for the users? What would the consequences be if the service of the mobile libraries would not exist? The method used was qualitative interviews. The groups of respondents are mobile library users and library staff. The theories used include Anderson and Skot-Hansen’s model of the public library’s local profile. This model is used to analyze the results. The result of the study shows that all groups of respondents are of the opinion that the mobile library has a significant value and function in many ways.

BAKGRUND: Det är av stor vikt att arbeta med barns inflytande och meddemokratiska processer eftersom detta står tydligt i förskolansstyrdokument. Forskning visar flera positiva effekter av attinvolvera barnen i den pedagogiska verksamheten.SYFTE: Vi vill undersöka hur pedagoger på tre förskolor arbetar medbarns inflytande och demokratiska processer, samt vadpedagogerna anser om barns möjligheter till inflytande. Vi villäven undersöka hur barnen upplever sina möjligheter tillinflytande i förskolans verksamhet.METOD: Vi har använt oss av metoderna self report, observation ochintervju. Vi har genomfört både barnintervjuer ochpedagogintervjuer, dessa genomfördes på tre förskolor. Vigenomförde totalt 15 barnintervjuer och 7 pedagogintervjuer ochlämnade ut 8 self reports.RESULTAT: I vårt resultat kom vi fram till att pedagogerna på de treundersökta förskolorna försöker arbeta aktivt med barns inflytande. En del i det arbetet är att vara lyhörda och att fångaupp barnens tankar och intressen. Röstning och barnens val är delar av demokratiska processer. Pedagogerna försöker äventänka sig för innan de säger ”nej” till barnens förslag – etttillåtande klimat, dock uttryckte pedagogerna att de borde blibättre på att synliggöra barns inflytande för barnen. Barnenuttryckte i sina intervjusvar att pedagogerna lyssnar på dem ochde flesta barnen uttrycker att de får lov att bestämma påförskolan, men ”inte precis när som helst”. / Uppsatsnivå: C

BAKGRUND:Bakgrunden behandlar en del av förskolans historia och dess styrdokument. Beskrivningen av varför pedagogen Fröbel startade Kindergarten samt de styrdokument och förordningar som gjort att förskolans pedagogiska utformning växt fram redogörs. I barnkonventionen lyfts barns rättigheter samt respekten för varandra. Teorin om livsvärlden ligger som grund för hur människan utvecklas i samspel och kommunikation med varandra.SYFTE:Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på pedagogers uppfattningar av begreppet barns inflytande i förskolan. Syftet behandlar också hur pedagogerna arbetar med barns inflytande, vilken påverkan de anser att inflytande har på barns utveckling och lärande, samt hur de menar att barn förstår att de har inflytande.METOD:Studien är kvalitativ, första frågeställningen utgår från fenomenografisk ansats med kvalitativ analys i övriga frågeställningar används kvalitativ analys. Redskap som användes är intervju med öppna frågor samt tankekarta. Sex pedagoger intervjuades från fyra förskolor med olika organisatoriska inriktningar.RESULTAT:Det visar sig att pedagogernas uppfattningar av fenomenet barns inflytande utfaller i två kategorier, barns valmöjlighet samt att barnen blir hörda. Pedagogernas arbete med barns inflytande delades upp i tre kategorier. Vilken påverkan barns inflytande har på utveckling och lärande finns indelat i tre kategorier som beskriver olika läroprocesser. Pedagogerna menar att det finns två tillvägagångssätt att bekräfta hur barnen ska förstå att de har inflytande, konkret bekräftelse och kognitiv bekräftelse.

This essay concerns sponsorship of libraries within Sweden. It takes its starting-point in the libraries economical situation where resources are decreasing. The main purpose of the essay is to investigate how sponsorship is used in public libraries. The main questions are:o Why are sponsorships appealing to libraries? o What does the processes of sponsoring look like? o What are the possible risks concerning sponsor-ships – could it endanger libraries democratic role? o How does library staff reflect on the role of libraries in contemporary society? In our study we chose to investigate the sponsorship issue from the sponsored libraries perspective. We used quantitative and qualitative methods in gathering data. In a first step we made a survey covering 290 libraries in order to identify those who were involved in any form of sponsorship. In a second step we chose to interview seven libraries through an open-ended questionnaire, by e-mail. Our results show that sponsorship occurs only to a limited extent and that there are a variety of different models of sponsorship in practice. The most common purpose is financing activities outside the set budget. In times of economical savings, sponsoring allows libraries to arrange special activities. The participating libraries do not consider sponsorships a threat to the main task of the libraries. There may be a risk that libraries would need to rely on sponsorships for their survival. However, if sponsoring is used mainly to finance activities outside the set budget we don’t regard that as a threat.

The purpose of this Bachelor thesis is to gain insight into themeaning of the mobile library for its users by investigatingwho the users are, how they use the mobile library, why theyuse the mobile library and what the users want from the bookbus service. The methods used are observations, surveystudy and qualitative interviews.The theoretical framework of the study is based onAndersson’s and Skot-Hansen’s model of the public librarywith its four different library profiles, together with PierreBourdieu´s lifestyle theory where habitus and the concept ofcultural capital are used to analyze the role of the book busin people’s lives.My conclusion is that the mobile library is very important toits users since reading is an important part of their lives andit gives them easy access to books of several genres.
