"Den professionella utvecklingen pågår under hela yrkeslivet" : En narrativ intervjustudie om socionomers identitetsutveckling / "The professional development continues throughout life" : A narrative interview study on social workers identity.

Karlsson, Moa, Hulin, Mica January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the process of social workers professional identity emerges and its development from education to profession. Narrative interviews were conducted with four informants, two students and two social workers. Tools for analyzing the narratives and the identities are the term professional identity and narrative perspectives which are represented by the social constructivist perspective and prominent self.Previous research shows that the development of the professional identity can begin before and within the education. In the professional life, development of the professional identity has a strong influence dependent on colleagues and laws. The results are largely in line with previous research but also underline an impact on society's perceptions of social workers. During the studies, an understanding is created of the professional identity that students test in their internship. Previous professional experience is interpreted to have a role in understanding professional identity and the difference between private and professional. At the beginning of career, a clear distinction is made between professional and private identity, but over time, these also merge. The professionals emphasize a strong influence of laws that are not associated with private identity. Social workers professional identity is a never-ending process.

A study of identities and leadership constructed at a law firm

Edfast, Filippa, Frihager, Charlotta January 2019 (has links)
In a conservative field as the law industry, where the exercise of profession is that independent that the employee becomes one's own leader and where the professional identity dominates the identity of the organisation, there is a trend to leave the company, either for another company or in order to start ones own business. In this qualitative study, we wanted to increase the understanding of identity and leadership constructed in a company in a professional field. The study was conducted at a micro business in the law industry in a small city, by semi structured interviews of the employees and the owner of the company. The empirical material and analysis has been thematised by the research questions concerning identity and leadership, and sense-making has been knitted together to discuss how these cooperate. The conclusion is that the identity of the organisation cooperates with the identity of the profession, and that is why the employees will relate to this identity, and also construct the owner, who has the ownership of the identity, as a leader.

Throw shit against the wall and see what sticks : En innehållsanalys av nio folkbiblioteks självframställning på Instagram / Throw shit against the wall and see what sticks : A content analysis of nine public libraries’ self-presentation on Instagram

Fransson, Hanna, Lundberg, Johanna January 2021 (has links)
As the title of this thesis suggests, presenting one’s self in modern-day society can sometimes resemble a trial-and-error process. In this bachelor’s thesis, the aim is to examine nine Swedish public libraries’ self-presentation through their social media expressions, thus to provide a contemporary overview of what content is being published in relation to the public library organization’s identity formation within the social media platform Instagram. In order to achieve this, following research questions are asked: What kind of content do libraries convey via their Instagram accounts, and what different types of library-specific genres emerge from the empirical material?; Which diverse representations of the public library, library activities and the librarian are conveyed in the empirical material, and how do they relate to more general understandings of the librarian and the library?; How can the selves that emerge in the library's self-presentation on Instagram be seen as an expression of an institutional, professional or media-specific identity, and what impact does technology and the library's social media genres have on how these are shaped?  Using a categorization scheme, consisting of six content categories, this is conducted through a content analysis of 607 library-generated Instagram posts. Based on the empirical evidence the result indicates that four themes in particular emerge as especially present and recurring in public libraries’ Instagram publications. These themes can be summarized as Tributes, hashtags and societal trends; The public library, building and place; The librarian; and The book. Through the libraries’ social media channel, their Instagram posts and mentioned themes, library-specific genres related to the library’s and librarian’s self-presentation seem to occur, which appears to go beyond professional and institutional identities. Therefore, it seems possible to talk about a specific social media identity, ergo Instagram as a new arena for the public library’s mediated self-presentation.

Åman, Madeleine January 2023 (has links)
Evidence-based practice [EBP] have had a large influence on social work since the 1990s and has received both praise and criticism among professional social workers. New demands on social work practice following EBP has also influenced the professional identity of social workers. This essay has sought to examine how previously published research describes the development of the discussion around evidence-based social work and how this discussion is connected to both the identity of the discipline of social work as well as the professional identity of social workers. Previous research has shown that the professional identity of social workers is multifaceted and ambivalent, especially in relation to research, knowledge and EBP. This research overview has its theoretical stance in social constructivism and critical theory. The overview has been constructed through a thematical analysis of included research which has combined both qualitative and quantitative research. The main results of this study indicate that the implementation of EBP in social work has brought both organizational and epistemological tensions within the profession to light. The results also indicate a view among professionals that the model of EBP is too narrow to incorporate the dynamic practice of social work. Because of this, social workers have started to develop their knowledge base to include more research evidence and scientific language rather than incorporating EBP in their everyday practice. The result also indicates that social workers have somewhat reconstructed their professional identity to incorporate these new demands on social work practice.

“Russian oppositional journalism is not an institution; it is a partisan movement” : Reconfigured professional identities among Russophone exile journalists in the Baltic States / "Rysk oppositionell journalistik är inte en institution, det är en motståndsrörelse" : Omkonfigurerade professionella identiteter bland ryska exiljournalister i de baltiska staterna

Paegle, Jana January 2024 (has links)
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, repressive legislative changes and tightened war-censorship prompted a new wave of media professionals leaving the Federation. This study explores how Russian journalists resettling in the Baltic states articulate their professional identity and view the Russian versus Baltic governments’ attitudes while adapting abroad. While recognizing the Russian oppositional sphere’s role in democracy promotion, this research draws insights from thirteen semi-structured interviews conducted in the fall of 2023 with exiled media professionals in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The study employs Mark Deuze’s ideal typical values on professional ideology (public service, immediacy, autonomy, ethics, and objectivity) supplemented by Patric Raemy’s take on resilience theory, utilizing a hybrid inductive-deductive methodology with apriori themes of a) oppositionality and ideology, b) logistics and migration as well as c) adaptation and resilience. Findings showed that exiled journalists’ articulations of anti-war positions were intrinsically connected to their professional roles. There were also strong commitments to transparent information access. In parallel, editorials experienced either de- or reiterated hierarchization stemming from working in crisis. Key professional challenges included circumventing censorship, financial struggles, and losing access to domestic informants. Adaptive and maladaptive mechanisms ranged from being psychosocial to technical.

The Role of Professional Identity in Digital Transformation : The Case of Heavy Equipment Operators in the Swedish Earth-Moving Industry / Yrkesidentitetens Roll i Digital Transformation : En Fallstudie av Maskinförare inom den Svenska Maskinentreprenadbranschen

Wänlund, Robin, Zhou, Bobby January 2021 (has links)
Digital transformation has become a hot topic both amongst practitioners and researchers. However, a vast majority of industries are struggling with collecting the benefits from digital transformation, and the Swedish earth-moving industry is no exception. Identity is seldomly further explored, although it is often mentioned as a factor to consider in digital transformation. Furthermore, the role of the employees is central, yet often underestimated. Thus, this study revolves around heavy equipment operators and their professional identity in digital transformation. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate how the professional identity of the heavy equipment operators affects digital transformation of the earth-moving industry. To fulfill the purpose, this study aims to use a combination of previous theories regarding professional identity. This to explain current and anticipate future supportive and resistive behaviors towards digital transformation. The findings are based on an exploratory case study of heavy equipment operators and an extensive literature review of prior research of professional identity. The findings showcase that heavy equipment operators' professional identity is mainly rooted in their prior socialization and similar values of impacting their surroundings. Furthermore, this study found that concerns of not having the skills required by the changes as a resistive behavior are likely to become more prominent in the future. This is because although digital technologies lower the maneuvering skills, they require other skills. Also, digital technologies are often appreciated although they are often adopted in a reactive way which slows down digital transformation of the earth-moving industry. Furthermore, this study shows that there are multiple aspects of professional identity to consider and provides a comprehensive understanding of the interdependencies amongst the elements in professional identity.

Naderi, Robin, Pettersson, Andreas January 2018 (has links)
Two identities the internal auditor on a university experience are a professional identity and an organizational identity. Consciously or unconsciously, the internal auditor needs to acknowledge when the professional and the organizational identity are expressed since the identities both have positive and negative aspects on the role as an internal auditor. The purpose of this study was to create an understanding of how the internal auditors professional and organizational identity are balanced and expressed in practice. This was done by identifying problematic situations and analyzing tensions. Social Identity theory was used as the base for the study and previous research in identity, identification and auditors have complemented the theory. Qualitative interviews with internal auditors at eight universities have constituted the empirical material to capture problematic situations. The results indicate the internal auditors need to balance the interaction between the professional and the organizational identity when problematic situations occur. Trust from employees in the internal auditor is seen as a reason for why tensions occur in the problematic situations which can create conflicts in the interaction between the professional and organizational identity. The professional identity is seen to contribute to why an objective stance is valued, simultaneously the organizational identity is seen to contribute to why trust and understanding from employees are valued. Future research is proposed to investigate if and why differences in tensions among internal auditors exist in the public and private sector.

Utredning inleds : Språk, genredrag och ansvar i barnavårdsutredningar / Investigation initiated : Language, genre features and responsibility in child welfare investigations

Ström, Peter January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to acquire a deeper knowledge of Swedish social services’ written child welfare investigations. These investigations are conducted and documented by social workers at social welfare offices, and the investigations sometimes have a major impact on the lives of individuals. The research material consists of 50 written child welfare investigations, social workers’ answers to interviews and questionnaires and also steering documents regulating the child welfare practice of the social services, but the study focuses on the written investigations. Drawing on genre analysis theory and critical discourse analysis, patterns of linguistic features in the investigations are highlighted and considered as genre-specific features. Overall the investigations as written documents are considered both as discursive tools in a professional setting and as social authorities’ texts with great power in an asymmetrical power relation between authorities and individuals. This inherent duality implies different communicative purposes which are difficult to merge in the same document. The study includes a variety of empirical data and analytical tools deriving from genre analysis, critical discourse analysis, corpus linguistics and linguistic stylistics. In the study both quantitative and qualitative approaches are combined, creating methodological triangulation. The results show that all the investigations are alike in terms of communicative purposes, indicating that the concept of genre is rigid concerning the text sample. In other respects all the investigations are characterized by variation, in both linguistic and more content-oriented aspects. In some sections of the texts the language is formal and in others it is casual. This can be understood as a consequence of different purposes coexisting in the same text. The results also show that different text participants are constructed differently concerning responsibility for affecting other participants. The authorities’ impact through processes is often hidden in passive clauses. Another result indicates that pseudo-nominalization is a functional linguistic tool in the discourse, which might be a reason to reevaluate plain language recommendations regarding this grammatical construct.

Lundin, Anette January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation aims at contributing to social scientific knowledge about prevailing prioritizations in eldercarepractice by looking at an economic and a caring logic, and how these logics are overlapping, contradictory or comein conflict with each other. A more concrete aim is to understand how the personnel describe their work with orfor balance between the logics and their justifications prioritizations made in the care of older persons. The researchquestion is: How do personnel and care unit manager at a public nursing home understand and handle the twologics that govern care work for facilitating wellbeing of the residents. The aim and research question led to threesub-aims: 1) to analyze the personnel’s experiences of and meaning making about the care work they carry out, 2)to illuminate and problematize the two logics above, and 3)to analyze how the personnel justify their prioritizationsin prevailing context, and how their accountability have an effect on their professional identities.Empirical material was gathered through 13 individual interviews with care personnel and their care unitmanager at a public nursing home in Sweden. These interviews were complemented by a group interview. Thematerial was analyzed by the use of three methods: phenomenology (Paper I and II), reflexive analysis (Paper III),and a positioning analysis (Paper IV). Paper I found that the personnel understands the residents’ well-being asbeing characterized by feeling of being existentially touched. This essence is constituted by feeling freedom ofchoice, pleasure, and closeness to someone or something. In Paper II, the work for facilitating this kind of wellbeingwas characterized by three ambiguities: (i) freedom of choice for the older persons vs. institutionalconstraints, (ii) the residents' need for activation vs. wanting not to be activated, and (iii) the residents' need forroutine vs. the eldercarers' not being able to know what the residents need. Paper III showed that the care unitmanager created a hybrid of the two logics (economy is care and vice versa) and that the personnel oppose thishybrid. The opposition is shaped as the personnel divides their work in care and “those other things”. Thesefindings showed how interaction between the logics expresses itself in practice and that it is the personnel who hasto handle contradictions between the logics in their everyday care work. The positioning analysis in Paper IV hadthree levels. The first level showed how the carers align with their peers and that they find the organizationalframe, within which they have agency, changed due to increased workload. This change led to an order of priorities. The second level showed that the carers relate to three aspects when making accounts: the care itself, the olderpersons, and the media. The third level showed that the carers share a view of administration, cleaning, servingmeals, and filling up supplies, as not being parts of caring. The dissertation’s theoretical framework focused on theories on logics, accountability, and professionalidentity. The conclusion is that both logics are needed in order to facilitate the well-being of the older persons. Therelationships between the two logics are not always clear and if their contradictions are not illuminated, there is arisk for a care practice that does not facilitate the well-being of their residents. An important theoreticalcontribution is that logics of activities should be understood vertically (form political, through management, anddown to the level of practice) instead of horizontally. The practical implications emphasize the importance ofsupporting the personnel’s professional identity on the one hand, and discussing the logics on the other. Byunderstanding differences between definitions on management-level and practice level, a homogeneity can bereached.

: A qualitative study of care managers experience of work and collaboration around elderly people with mental illness

Sjöblom, Emilia, Eklund, Evelina January 2021 (has links)
Previous studies show that elderly people with mental illness tend not to have their needs met due to lack of interaction between authorities (Grundberg, Hansson, Religa &amp; Hillerås 2016). The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate what care managers in social psychiatry and elderly care experience affect their work and collaboration between them. In this way, we want to create a deeper understanding of how work and collaboration affect the care of older people with mental illness. This qualitative study is based on semi-structured interviews with six care managers. We have used a thematic analysis to analyze our empirical material. Through transcription and reading of the empirical material, we have highlighted quotations that have identified repetitions, similarities and differences that have since shaped themes. Furthermore, the material was analyzed based on theories of collaboration (Danermark &amp; Kullberg 1999; Grape 2015) and Lipsky's street level bureaucracy. Our study shows that care managers feel that collaboration is a prerequisite for being able to meet the needs of elderly people with mental illness, but opinions differ on whether the support needs of the target group are actually met. Collaboration between social psychiatry and elderly care is generally perceived to work well, even though our results show some contradictions to this claim. Finally, the study shows that collaboration and social work is influenced by various factors such as proximity and distance, as well as laws and guidelines and knowledge about these. These factors affect the care manager's room for manoeuvre and professional identity, which is also perceived to affect the possibilities for collaboration. Collaboration, room for manoeuvre and professional identity seem to be related and through interaction all parts form a whole.
