Björkman, Milly, Ståhl, Mi January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet portrayed a man who was a suspect of preparation of terrorist crimes, in articles published between 19th of November 2015 and the 23rd of Januari 2016. The aim was to get a deeper understanding of the portraiture of the person in question, and to point out existing discourses in the analysed material with the help of critical discourse analysis as explained by Norman Fairclough and his theories about identities, social representation and relations. Theories about social representation and postcolonialism were used as a springboard for the analysis. In the study we found two distinct discourses. The discourse for the period prior the man’s release was clearly influenced by denuniation and alienation, and the one found for the period after the man’s release were welcoming. Conclusions drawn from the study are that Aftonbladet portrays the man in a stereotypical manner, as well as legitimizes their own power of influence.

: A study of municipal inspectors' customer treatment, from a gender perspective

Keller, Jessica, Millqvist, Angeline January 2015 (has links)
Research has shown that behaviors displaying gender differentiation do occur, yet often unconsciously. The purpose of our research was to study gender awareness, and gender differentiation, in the context of customer treatment. Through interviews with five municipal inspectors we found that the general knowledge of gender was limited. We also used observations in order to see occurrences of gender differentiation in the inspectors’ treatment of their customers. The results showed that male customers received more attention, open questions and compliments from the inspectors than female customers. Further the results showed signs of subordination in relation to male customers and gender bias toward female customers. In relation to the inspectors’ limited awareness the results concluded that increased knowledge and awareness of gender differentiation could result in more equal and gender-neutral behavior in their treatment of customers.

Etude des facteurs endogènes de la décision : une application à la décision d'internationaliser des responsables de PME / Studying decision endogenous factors : an application to the decision to internationalize of French SME's decision makers

Ricard, Antonin 27 November 2012 (has links)
This research aims at studying the factors that influence people in charge of SME in their decisions to internationalize an activity. Starting from the literature about the decision in the management field, the authors highlight the seminal influence, though hardly studied, of one determinant of the decision: the Social Representations. In an international environment, the authors assume that Social Representations of globalization and internationalization influence on decision making. Thus, the authors introduce a model composed of the decision to internationalize endogenous determinants: international decision features (Social Representations and attitude towards globalization and internationalization) and classical decision features (tolerance to ambiguity, intuitivity, and proactivity). In order to validate this model, the authors adapt an original method to capture the respondents' decision behavior: The Scenario Method. It leads to design, test and validate a tool which measures decisions and respondents' profiles. The field is composed of 33 participants for the qualitative studies, and 149 top managers of French SME for the quantitative study. The results suggest that in an international context, decisions are both based on international and classical features. The authors show that international decisional features better explain decisions than classical decisions features. Furthermore, Social Representations contribute to better understand the origin of individual's position towards globalization and internationalization: for instance, respondents who are unfavorable to globalization perceive it as a source of threat and competition

A representação social da teoria de Piaget no Brasil: implicações para as pesquisas acadêmicas / The social representation of Piaget\'s theory in Brazil: implications to the academic researches

Marçal, Vicente Eduardo Ribeiro 07 June 2019 (has links)
Esta análise confirmou nossa conjectura / Our aim with this Ph.D Thesis was to demonstrate that the Theory of the swiss biologist and epistemologist Jean Piaget was victim of its own Social Representation (within the meaning of Serge Moscovici, as we will still explain in our Introduction). Victim in sense of that his findings in the field of Biology and his creation in the field of the construction of formal models in this same Science, unprecedent feat till then, have fallen in obscurity in the History of epigenetic ontogenesis of the human being, in both biologic and scientific aspects, in terms of the field of acquiring of scientific and logical mathematical knowledgement. These facts Zelia Ramozzi-Chiarottino (whose analysis and interpretation of Piagets Theory will be the theoretical framework of this Thesis) show us next to her co-workers, in the article: Jean Piagets unrecognized epigenetic ontogenesis of the logical mathematical thought, (2017). In the present work, we limited ourselves to Brazil, and to the production of Dissertations and Doctoral Theses on Piagets Theory and its Social Representation, produced here on the last ten years. We made a data survey on the Dissertations and Theses from the Catalogue of Theses and Dissertations from CAPES. Statistic method used was the to analyze the collected data. This analysis validated our conjecture

Cafeo, Marta Regina Garcia. January 2019 (has links)
The participation of women in Rio 2016 was a highlight, representing 46% of registered athletes, the largest number of women in the history of games, and has sparked several debates on gender equality. Several studies have shown that sports media coverage tends to favor male athletes rather than female ones, and athletes are often much more portrayed by their appearance, clothing and personal life in sports reports. The research presents bibliographical review related to the studies of gender and social representations of the women; the game as an element of culture; male domination in the sports field, the history of women in sports in Brazil and the trajectory of women in the Olympics. As methodology, it is used the Critical Analysis of Discourse, to identify the discursive constructions and the representations of the athletes, in covers of O Globo newspaper and Rio 2016 Special Section during Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It is considered that the media has an important role in the construction of new representations, giving space for the female athletes to present their insertion in the practice of sports. Media discourses provide an analysis of representations, meanings, and symbolic aspects of gender configurations, since it carries meanings that express power relations, social a... [en] CHICAS DEL MONTÓN: REPRESENTATION OF GENDER IN PEDRO ALMODÓVAR´S CINEMA / [pt] CHICAS DEL MONTÓN: A REPRESENTAÇÃO DE GÊNERO NO CINEMA DE PEDRO ALMODÓVAR

LUANA SILVEIRA MUZY 23 January 2013 (has links)
[en] The present study analyzes the cinematographic representations of female gender in Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s filmography. Woman – massified and overrepresented – appears to acquire a refreshed representation in the hands of the Manchego director, precisely by declining the ordinary (normative) or Hollywoodian representation. His characters seem to be built and defined by their gender identities – or by the absence of them, whether male or female. To achieve this understanding, the selected method of evaluation was a Content Analysis of the seventeen Almodóvar motion pictures presently available on the market. This study is based on two main theoretical arcs: the Social Representations Theory, from the seminal work of Serge Moscovici to its appropriation by Cultural Studies, and the theoretical hues of gender issues, which pervade Feminist Studies and generate discussion to the present date. The main analytical focus, however, is the manner in which female gender representation is articulated in Almodóvar’s filmic universe and his strategies as filmmaker and artist.

[en] DESIGN AND AGING: A STUDY OF DESIGN ACTIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW OLD AGE / [pt] DESIGN E ENVELHECIMENTO: UM ESTUDO SOBRE AÇÕES PROJETUAIS PARA A CONSTRUÇÃO DE UMA NOVA VELHICE

RENATA DE ANDRADE MARQUES PEREIRA 07 May 2015 (has links)
[en] The present study is an investigation into the potential of Design to promote diversity, gains and possibilities of old age and began from the observation that although plural, the elderly are treated, in general, homogeneously and associated with products and services that highlight negative aspects of aging, such as canes and nursing homes. The approach on the theme occurred with literature research and participant observation with elderly people and had as main conductors Simone de Beauvoir – author of Old Age, book that depicts the condition of the elderly from historical, biological and social perspectives –, Mirian Goldenberg – author of The Beautiful Age – and Celso Sá – who deals with the Social Representation Theory: basis for the elaboration of a projetual exercise that checks how the elderly are socially represented through products and services. The research about the potential of Design to contribute to new ways of seeing and living the old age was based on collecting examples of design actions on behalf of seniors, accomplished through the creation of interest groups with researchers from the Center for Research and Study of Aging and from the International Longevity Center-Brazil, students of Science social and Design, among others. The examples collected were organized into categories, based on the study by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi on how people construct meaning in their familiar environments through artifacts, and prospects of Emotional Design identified by studies conducted in the lab Design Memory and Emotion. It was observed the existence of two major groups: (1) the things of old people, focusing on the limitations and losses of old age and treat the elderly as a homogeneous group and (2) the things of new old people that meet varied demands through various forms also. Finally, it is concluded that the construction of the new old age is intrinsically linked to the vision of those who design products and services and actions intended to encourage: to dance, to date, to work, to travel, to live...

The Social Representation of Populism in Europe : A cross-sectional case study of populist supporters across four European states.

Farooq, Mohammad Ameer Hassan January 2019 (has links)
The following paper focuses on the relatively new rise of populism which has seen a surge across states across the western world. Populism refers to governance of and for the people, as opposed to the ruling elites. As the sensation of democratic deficits and partisan cleavages increase, the reaction is populism which aims to restore the fundamental democratic values back to the people, advocating a more transparent form of democracy, where power moves away from the ruling elites, back to the people. We explore what populism entails through defining it through its theoretical identifiers and analyzing which political and social attitudes are present in supporters of populist parties. This study is meant to complement Staerkle and Greens study about the social representation of right-populists. By using the same research methodology as Staerkle and Green but also including left populists. This means looking at the social representation of left-right populist supporters and identifying mutual conventions and relations through a cross sectional case study of four countries which have seen a rise in populist parties. The findings lead us to see convergence in left-right populist parties toward institutional distrust and divergence in opinion towards globalism and multiculturalism. In essence, we compare and present the social representation of populist supporters of left-right populist parties and investigate which attributes cause the divergence in their political and social identities.

"O produtor familiar rural e a dinâmica econômica e social do espaço rural da região de Presidente Prudente nos anos 1980-90" / "The rural family producer and the economic and social dynamics of rural space in Presidente Prudente region in the 1980's-90's"

Medeiros, Célia Maria Santos Vieira de 27 February 2003 (has links)
This study aims to understand the space dynamics of the Paulista Southwestern region, through the economic and social approach of the rural, analyzing and reflecting on the overall family agricultural production and its future possibilities before public policies, the possible shifts in the regional dynamics, and the limits that they have faced in relation to land structure production, trade, financial resources, access to technology, and technical assistance, its representation and performance in associations, cooperatives, unions and other entities. The areas researched are parts of the Presidente Prudente Rural Development Office, formed by 21 counties, in up-to-100-hectare area levels. During the field survey, rural producers were interviewed, emphasizing matters connected to the production unit, as well as to the social unit of the family farmers. The region considered, although it has presented a high-level land concentration of capitalist character since its historical formation, and in which the animal husbandry activity of extensive slaughter has been predominant, has necessarily led neither to the disappearance of the little or large family production units, nor to a production homogenity; instead, I have observed a dynamics that has often included multiple ways, which have provided a contradictory adaptation before the new social and production circumstances. In relation to public policies for the field focused in this study, I have verified that the Family Agriculture Development National Program has not been enough to assist the family producers efficiently up to now. The indirect commercialization of the production and the insecurity in relation to prices were the main aspects in focus, among others, as limits for the family producer, who has showed resistance in adapting ways of social organization which could protect them. Nevertheless, through strategies, these very producers have been responsible for a meaningful part of the regional agricultural and animal husbandry production, as well as for labour absorption in the country. Therefore, in analyzing concrete social processes, I have realized the diversity and complexity of possibilities within them, so that, I believe it is able to indicate ways that could bring changes to the regional dynamics.

Burnout, representação social e discurso do sujeito coletivo em pastoras e pastores / Social Representations and Discourse of the Collective Subject of Pastors

Nakano, Érika Feltrin Marques 17 March 2017 (has links)
The present work identifies the social representations regarding burnout in pastors of the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil through the use of the Discourse of the collective subject. The research starts from a brief description of stress and burnout, then relates Burnout Syndrome to pastors, and ultimately characterizes the pastor profession. The study reached the goal and identified such social representations as well as pointing out supposedly relevant differences in the variables: gender, position, teamwork or alone and time of profession. The qualitative analysis of the discourses was made through the discourse method of the collective subject, with identification of key expressions, central ideas and categorization, which resulted in 11 categories that originated the collective discourses. Then the categories were grouped into macrocategories related to each dimension of Burnout Syndrome. The quantitative analysis was made as descriptive statistics with distribution of subjects (), percentage frequencies, means and standard deviations in each of the categories
