Pushnotisernas journalistiska påverkan / The results of push notifications : The news media’s approach and the journalistic changeLindholm Fjeld, Emilia January 2019 (has links)
This study examines whether the breakthrough of push notifications has affected journalism, and what characterizes the editorial content of push notifications. The study focuses specifically on the two Swedish newspapers Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter. Qualitative interviews have been conducted where two people from each newspaper, who in various ways encounter push notifications in their daily work, had the opportunity to share their experiences in the area. These interviews have then been supplemented with a quantitative content analysis, where the two newspapers push notifications are categorized based on specific variables and variable values. The study's theoretical framework is based on theories of news evaluation, news selection and editorial routines. Combined with previous research on what makes news, differences between morning and evening press as well as the consequences of the push notifications, the results of the study is discussed. The conclusions are that the work with push notifications is demanding, competitive and keeps a high tempo. The goal of being first with the push notification can lead to the verification process being down prioritized. There is also a connection that shows that too many push notifications increase the number of news application-uninstallations. In addition, it is concluded that the newsworthiness behind Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheters push notifications to some extent follows the same pattern as when it comes to news in general. Based on theory and previous research, push notifications seem to be an extension of what characterizes morning and evening press. Both Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter focuses on the news that is typical for respective newspapers. However, the push notifications place higher demands when it comes to befit the whole audience.

The aim of the study was to examine how two young female victims was represented in Swedish commercial news press, if and how their relations to the perpetrator would affect their representation and what similarities and differences there were in the representation between the two. We examined the coverage of Lisa Holm, who was murdered by a stranger, and Tova Moberg, who was murdered by her abusing ex- boyfriend. The method used was a critical discourse analysis. We searched for different discourse themes in a total of twelve news articles from Aftonbladet and Expressen. We analyzed the themes and came to the conclusion that the murder victims were represented very much alike, well-liked, ambitious and good-hearted. The main difference is that Tova Moberg was not represented as innocent as Lisa Holm by the journalism because of her relationship with her ex-boyfriend. The journalism partly blamed Tova Moberg for not preventing her own death since she was aware of the danger. We found that as soon as any kind of relations between the victim and perpetrator was mentioned the victim’s status as an ideal victim decreased.

“Fansen rasar!” - eller gör de? : En kvalitativ studie om utformandet av artiklar baserade på källor hämtade från sociala medier / “The fans are raging!” - Or are they? : A qualitative study of the creation of articles based on sources gathered from social mediaLydén, Oskar, Hellgren, Tobias January 2019 (has links)
The focus of this study is to investigate the extent to which newspaper articles based on sources gathered from social media fulfils the criteria for news selection and which source-critical principles that the sources fulfils. It also examines how narration affect the design of the articles. The purpose of this study is to develop an understanding of what the basis for creating the articles is and to clarify whether the creation of the articles is legitimized by three journalistic theories which are news selection, source criticism and media logic. The empirical material studies is comprises three articles from Aftonbladet and one from Expressen. To investigate this a qualitative content analysis and thematization is used as method. The chosen theories and their criterias form the basis of the analytical themes used to analyse the empirical material. The result of the analysis shows that the newspaper articles meet one or more criteria that an event should fulfil in order to legitimize the creation of the news. Furthermore the study results shows that the sources obtained from social media did not measure the source-critical principles and that narrative techniques such as accentuation, simplification and intensification were those that affected the design of the articles most.

The gold women with many identities : A qualitative study of the Swedish tabloids representation of the Olympic games in Pyeongchang 2018.Viklund, Klara, Åkerman, Sarah January 2019 (has links)
The motive of our study was to examine the differences and the similarities between how tabloids write about male versus female cross-country skiing participants. The main focus was to examine their adversities and successes at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018. The study had two main questions to analyze this: “How does Swedish tabloids report about the female and male cross-country skiing teams at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018?” and “How do Swedish tabloids report about the setbacks and successes regarding the Swedish cross-country skiing teams at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018?”. The result of our discourse analysis showed us that the tabloids present the female national team’s performance differently to how they present the male national team's performance. We made a discourse analysis of nine different articles from the Swedish tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen. The tabloids write about the female national team’s performances and successes and they balance it by also writing about their setbacks. The reasoning we found as to why the tabloids writes about female athletes more in-depthly than the men is because there is a larger demand for it, owing to their huge success in the Olympics. In contrary, the articles about the male national team, the tabloids write about their setbacks without questioning underlying factors or previous training that could be the basis of their failures. The tabloids also choose to publish articles with more private themes when it comes to the female athletes. This does not occur in the articles about the male cross country national team. In the articles about the men, the tabloids choose not to include personal facts of any kind, all analysed articles deal instead with performance or setback related types of themes.

Homelessness and homeless people is something that is described and explained in different ways over time. Since the 1950s, two discourses about homelessness and its causes has been competing with each other. One discourse hold the meaning that homelessness is caused by housing shortage and the other focus on individual shortcomings that make homeless to unsuitable tenants. In the media, homelessness and homeless often is associated with crime, addiction and mental illness, this reinforce the public perception of homeless people as deviants, which separates the homeless from society even more. The purpose of this study is to examine whether media representations of homeless and homelessness in an evening paper and a morning paper, has changed in the 2000s, and if these representations are consistent with those found in the reports of homelessness from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. In order to achieve the purpose of the study and answer our research questions, the authors have used a discourse analytical approach using some key analytical tools from both critical discourse analysis and discourse theory in the analysis of the empirical material. The material consists of articles from two of the largest newspapers in Sweden, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet, and the reports from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. The result of the study shows that in year 2000 the image of homeless as substance abusers and mentally ill middle-aged men who are roughsleepers is dominating in both Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter and in the report from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. In year 2012 this representation of homeless remains but is no longer the dominant, when new homeless groups are presented in our material. Our results also indicates that homelessness discourse changed in the 2000s from a antisocial discourse to a discourse that focus on right. The study also shows that the discourse on homeless women has not changed in the 2000s.

Two cross-country skiers in the tabloids : - A study of the tabloids coverage of Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner in the 2010 Olympics and the 2014 OlympicsStenvall, Johan January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the two Swedish cross-country skiers, Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner are portrayed in the tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen. The study is based on theories of sports journalism, media- and gender studies. Within these theories there are beliefs that men and women are portrayed differently in sports journalism. Sports journalism is described as a subject where there is a hierarchy in which the man is often framed as dominant in relationship to the woman. This study was made in an attempt to examine whether this was the case in the Swedish tabloid magazines Aftonbladet and Expressens coverage of the winter Olympics. Articles published about Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 were analyzed by a quantitative content analysis. The two athletes were selected because they during the time of the study were prominent in their sport in which both achieved similar success. The results of the study showed that there were differences in Aftonbladet and Expressen’s media coverage of Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner. Kalla appeared in more numbers of articles than Hellner but she was often described as weak and her physical appearance was often highlighted. Hellner was often described as strong and focused regardless of whether he had failed or was successful.

Den enes död, den andres bröd : En fallstudie i Fonus kriskommunikation / One man's loss is another man's gain : A Funeral Agency and Their Crisis CommunicationOrest Flavet, Sebastian January 2014 (has links)
This paper examines how the Swedish funeral agency Fonus chose to respond to a critical article published in Aftonbladet, with a press release posted on their website. The paper first examines the rhetorical tools used in the creation of this message, and in relation to Benoit's Theory of Image Repair, which strategies that were used and how they were used. Thereafter the paper examines the effectiveness of these messages by exposing a selected group of respondents to the material whilst having them answering questions performed in an interview about what they are reading. Firstly the respondents are exposed to negative statements directed against Fonus in an attempt to tarnish their opinion of the company before they are allowed to read Fonus press release. The aim is to investigate whether this text-based crisis communication can influence the respondents and their attitude towards the company in a positive direction. The essay concludes that a message designed with varied rhetorical tools and a balanced use of Benoit's strategies is a fruitful way to influence the recipient in the desired direction.

Hästsport i dagspressen : En studie av hästsportens representation och framställning i svenska dagstidningar / Equestrian sports in the daily press : A study of the representation and depiction of equestrian sports in Swedish daily newspapersHedlund, Camilla, Lantz, Jannika January 2013 (has links)
The following essay is based on a quantitative as well as a qualitative study with the aim ofmapping out the representation and depiction of different sports, with focus on equestriansports, in two of Sweden’s largest daily newspapers during a time period of four weeksin 2012. We considered it important to see if there was any ground for the prejudicesabout the lack of representation of equestrian sports in the media, and we also wanted tosee if the media storm following Rolf-Göran Bengtsson’s win of Jerringpriset in any wayaffected the sport’s representation.First, the quantitative study was executed with over 1 100 articles analyzed. The qualitativestudy followed where four reports were selected for further investigation. These coveredthe three sports most written about as well as the equestrian sports. They were analyzedand compared in order to locate patterns of resemblance or difference. På knä mellan raderna : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av hur Aftonbladet och Svenska Dagbladet gestaltar tiggeri / Kneeling between the lines : A quantitative content analysis of how Swedish press portrays beggingFredriksson, Amira, Jonsson, Roila January 2018 (has links)
In our study, Kneeling between the lines. A quantitative content analysis of how Swedish press portrays begging, we aim to investigate how Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet, two Swedish national newspapers, with different ideological orientations, portray begging during the last year. Also, we intend to discuss the relationship between the newspapers' production of begging and the view of the Swedish welfare state. The purpose of this study is broken down into three questions: How are beggars portrayed in the two examined newspapers? Who/whom influence the discussion about begging in the two examined newspapers? How is the phenomenon explained in the two examined newspapers? – who/whom is responsible and what solutions are discussed? The method of the study is a quantitative content analysis, inspired by qualitative elements. We have analyzed 118 articles in total.Based on statistical generalizations, articles from both newspapers portray beggars in an inferior position. Also, it is unusual for those who personalize the phenomenon to influence the news reports. In Svenska Dagbladet, beggars are described in a more destructive and threatening position in comparison to Aftonbladet. In Aftonbladet, the cause of begging is commonly described as a problem of poverty or discrimination while in Svenska Dagbladet it is also portrayed as a consequence of drug abuse and human trafficking. The advocated solutions differbetween the papers. Aftonbladet proposes humanitarian actions while Svenska Dagbladet more often suggests juridical solutions such as a national ban. Based on a more socialist perspective on the welfare state, it is possible to concluded that Aftonbladet tends to have a more altruistic view of the phenomenon. This means that the Swedish state should support third parties without necessarily counting on something in return. Svenska Dagbladet, a newspaper which is more on the right in the ideological scale, appears to primarily advocate Swedish welfare to Swedish citizens.
