Lusten att lära : En studie kring varför människor väljer att lära sig något de inte måste / The desire to learn

Bergman, Madeleine January 2019 (has links)
This study focuses on historical reenactment, and the informal learning that takes place within that subculture. Through observations during events, and informal semi-structured interviews I have tried to identify some of the aspects that contribute to the motivation to learn that is prominent within the historical reenactment community. Why do people choose to learn things that they do not have to? What can I learn from that, and use to improve my own teaching? The study finds that some of the key facors for the motivation to learn is: having a social context that gives feedback and encouragement, beeing able to get practical use out of the knowledge you try to obtain, feeling satisfied with your own work, and having an enthusiastic teacher who can capture your curiosity.   The study also includes photographic works that aim to show some of the informal learning that takes place within the historical reenactment community. The purpose is also to initiate thoughts and discussions concerning informal learning and learning processes in general. Along with the photographs there are sounds taken from the interviews made during the study. The people heard give their perspective on the motivation to learn. Both photographs and sound were displayed in the Vårutställning at Konstfack.   Lastly I put forward some suggestions as to how teaching might be improved in order to help students feel more motivated to learn.

Utopi eller dystopi? : Föreställningar kring artificiell intelligens

Hörnsten, Jessica, Lindgren, Niclas, Skidmore, Simon January 2019 (has links)
This report is an investigation of the technological frames of Twitter users, regarding the phenomenon Artificial Intelligence. Tweets were collected as data and emotions were extracted through sentiment analysis. These emotions regarding AI were categorized using genre theory, more specifically Rob Klings (1994) genre conventions. This showed that the majority of Twitter users expressed positive feelings regarding AI, with trust, anticipation and joy as the most prominently displayed feelings. This is the leading technological frame of the users. Since our understanding of technology is created through socio-cognitive processes, this could have implications for AI. There is a risk of incongruencies between research into the phenomenon and the discussions on social media. Furthermore, light is shed on why this might be the case.

AI i styrelserummet : Artificiell intelligens i aktiebolagsrättsligt sammanhang / AI in the Boardroom : Artificial Intelligence in the Context of Corporate Law

Tensetti, Louise January 2019 (has links)

Artificiell romans : En genusvetenskaplig analys av romantiska relationer mellan artificiellt intelligenta och mänskliga karaktärer i filmerna "Be Right Back", Ex Machina och Her

Herbert, Nadim January 2019 (has links)
This thesis examines romantic relationships between human and artificially intelligent characters in the science-fiction films Ex Machina (2014), Her (2013) and “Be Right Back” (2013) from anthology series Black Mirror. The purpose of the thesis is to examine these relationships in relation to norms concerning corporeality, gender, sexuality and romance, exploring how the portrayal of these relationships and the characters in them subvert and/or reinforce those norms. A descriptive coding method was used followed by analytical coding to determine which theoretical concepts would be applied to which scenes. The theoretical framework consists mainly of Judith Butler’s theories on gender-performativity and Donna Haraway’s cyborg-figuration, and other theoretical concepts that were not used as extensively. The analysis showed that the films occasionally reinforce the norms in question due to cis- and heteronormative tendencies within the romantic relationships and due to normative aspects within the construction of the characters. A few examples of this is depicting a heteronormative, vocalized femininity and sexualized, normatively female bodies as well as partly establishing stereotypical, gendered dynamics in the romantic relationships. However, the study also showed that these films construction of the characters and their romantic relationships manages to subvert the above-mentioned norms. They do so by highlighting how corporeality is integral to the social construction of gender and not separate from that process, by critiquing monogamy being the normative type of romantic relationship and by exposing the male characters’ objectifying gaze towards female characters’ bodies. Through these transgressive examples and several others like them, the films display the subversive potential of science-fiction.

Öhlund, Linnea January 2019 (has links)
The future workplace may not be a place just for human workers but will likely be filled with artificial intelligence, robots and agents being colleagues instead of tools. In some industries where a shortage of personal is a central issue, digitalization in various fields can be explored as a mean to help. This study aims to discover different aspects regarding a social agent that has been implemented at a dental clinic with a purpose to preform different tasks that is normally regarded as human tasks. By conducting interviews and observations it was possible to shine light at a variation of underlying factors to take in to consideration when implementing such an agent at a workplace.  The study showed that even if an agent is capable to help people with their questions and tasks many users chose other alternatives that did not include getting help from the agent but instead meant that they used other alternatives.

Rekrytering av behandlingspersonal till HVB-hem / Personnel selection in HVB-institutions

Magnusson, Johan January 2011 (has links)
<p>Abstract</p><p>This study shows the process of recruiting personnel at six HVB-institutions (Home for treatment and housing). The purpose of the study was to explore what competencies the managers were searching for when employing new personnel. The questions at issue were if the recruiting process was relying on scientific grounds and how the final evaluation of the candidates was made. The study was carried out on basis of theories on recruiting process, competencies, intelligence and personality. Six managers or assistant mangers were interviewed about the recruiting process at each institution. The results show that the recruiting process didn’t rely on scientific grounds but instead on practice and experience. The evaluation of the candidates was made partly on fixed criteria’s like education, experience and personality but also regarding the managers’ gut-feeling during the employment interview. The competencies required by the managers were personal abilities like personal maturity, energetic, stable and social skills like ability to cooperate, ability to form relations and verbal communication. The results show that successful recruitment can be carried out with limited work effort but a more structured and extensive procedure, as prescribed in recruitment literature, provides greater possibilities to predict work performance and hire the right co-worker.</p><p>Program: Organisations- och personalutvecklare i samhället</p>

Freedom under responsibility or true and unaffected knowledge : Reliability of sources and how it is valued by two user groups.

Larsson, Josefine January 2012 (has links)
This essay is investigating what type of sources we trust, depending on how the information in these sources is created and provided. To exemplify, the sources Wikipedia and Nationalencyklopedin (the Swedish National Encyclopedia) were used, each one representing different approaches. The first is a representation of the collective intelligence, where anyone can contribute with their knowledge to the public – freedom under responsibility. The latter represents peer-reviewed knowledge, desirable enough to have people paying for it– true and unaffected.Based on theories of source criticism, collective intelligence, expertise and the different generations of digital natives and digital immigrants, two focus groups were conducted and analysed. A group of upper secondary school students and a group of retirees were presented with encoded texts from both encyclopedias, which they analysed critically from their opinion on reliability and objectivity. Their reasoning shows a well demonstrated awareness of the need of a critical reasoning and information literacy when dealing with different sources. But the question remained, particularly in regards to the students, if they do after all practice these skills in their information retrieval. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Wiechel, Pernilla January 2017 (has links)

Domain Knowledge Management in Information-providing Dialogue Systems

Flycht-Eriksson (Silvervarg), Annika January 2001 (has links)
<p>In this thesis a new concept called domain knowledge management for informationproviding dialogue systems is introduced. Domain knowledge management includes issues related to representation and use of domain knowledge as well as access of background information sources, issues that previously have been incorporated in dialogue management.</p><p>The work on domain knowledge management reported in this thesis can be divided in two parts. On a general theoretical level, knowledge sources and models used for dialogue management, including domain knowledge management, are studied and related to the capabilities they support. On a more practical level, domain knowledge management is examined in the contexts of a dialogue system framework and a specific instance of this framework, the ÖTRAF system. In this system domain knowledge management is implemented in a separate module, a Domain Knowledge Manager.</p><p>The use of a specialised Domain Knowledge Manager has a number of advantages. The first is that dialogue management becomes more focused as it only has to consider dialogue phenomena, while domain-specific reasoning is handled by the Domain Knowledge Manager. Secondly, porting of a system to new domains is facilitated since domain-related issues are separated out in specialised domain knowledge sources. The third advantage with a separate module for domain knowledge management is that domain knowledge sources can be easily modified, exchanged, and reused.</p> / Report code: LiU-Tek-Lic-2001:27.
