Reaktioner på stöld i antikens Rom : En känslohistorisk undersökning av defixiones från den heliga källan i Sulis Minervas helgedom i Bath / Reactions to theft in ancient Rome : An emotional history on the defixiones found in the sacred spring of the temple of Sulis Minerva at Bath

Andersson, Linus January 2023 (has links)
This paper seeks, by means of close reading, to examine the Tabellae Sulis–a series of curse tablets against thieves, found in the sacred spring of the temple of Sulis Minerva at Bath–to explore their emotional content and societal context. The 32 studied tablets are concerned with the theft of minor sums of silver and various items of clothing, crimes most likely committed while the victim was soaking in the sacred spring. The tablets can be considered a sort of quasi-legal agreement between the victim and the goddess in question. The latter is granted partial ownership of the stolen object–or, in some cases, the thief themselves–and expected to punish said thief until they return the object in question to the temple where it was stolen. In terms of punishment, the tablets attack everything from the thief’s mind, motor functions and senses to their ability to reproduce and even their very lives. Most commonly they request that the thief pay the value of the stolen object in their own blood. On an emotional level, the tablets give expression to the anger of the victims and their hunger for vengeance. In this way, they can be considered to have served as an emotional control mechanism, a safe and generally accepted way to express and act on feelings that might otherwise have proven socially problematic.

15 minutersstaden: För en hållbar stadsutveckling i Villaggio Olimpico, Rom / Huynh Akrawi

Huynh, Victoria, Akrawi, Vehin January 2023 (has links)
The 15-minute city is an ideal that has taken hold in many places around the world. The new urban planning concept is increasingly being discussed and implemented. Rome is one of the cities where the concept has gained a strong foothold. In spring 2023, an urban development project called 15 municipalities, 15 projects for the city in 15 minutes was launched in Rome. The project aims to decentralize the city centre to even out the unevenly distributed resources in the city to reduce car use. The concept aims to create self-sufficient neighborhoods where residents' destinations can be reached within short walking and cycling distances. Our bachelor thesis examines the implementation of the 15-minute city in the Villaggio Olimpico district of Rome. The aim of the work is to examine the strategies used by officials to promote the values referred to in the concept and the challenges faced by the Villaggio Olimpico urban development project. The area's modernist and dysfunctional built environment will be transformed in order to enhance and ensure the quality of life of its citizens. The project includes measures to promote transport efficiency and the activation of dilapidated public activity spaces to bring more life and activity to the area. For the implementation of the study, empirical data has been collected through document, interview and field studies. The theoretical framework consists of urban critic Jane Jacobs, urban planning icon Jan Gehl, architect Robert Lavelid and urban planning researcher Moa Tunström and their theories on what is required for successful planning for sustainable cities. The results of the study show that the concept is used as a strategic tool to counteract the car and the transport habits of the population to promote walking, cycling and public transport. Villaggio Olimpico plans to apply the values of the 15-minute city by activating and restoring degraded green and public spaces to create an attractive urban environment, as well as infrastructure investments that promote green transport choices.

Förgänglighet eller härlighetens frihet : En analys av Rom 8:18-30 med hjälp av konceptuell metafor- och blendingteori / Futility or the Freedom of Glory : An Analysis of Romans 8:18-30 Using Conceptual Metaphor and Blending Theory

Berglund, Robert January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to analyse Romans 8:18-30 in the light of cognitive metaphor and blending theory to explore how Paul's use of metaphors related to slavery and adoption can be understood. Furthermore, to analyse how the use of metaphor in Romans 8:18-30 relates to the earlier verses in the chapter, and how an ancient audience might have understood the theological message of the verses examined.

"In this body and life"

Turek, Magdalena Maria 14 March 2013 (has links)
Tantric practices of meditation in retreat have been prevalent across the Tibetan Plateau since at least a millennium, yet their highly elitist and clandestine nature has hitherto prevented their exploration and analysis. This thesis defines the pre-modern structure of the hermitic tradition in Khams, codified by the nonsectarian Ris med movement, but devotes most attention to the examination of its revival in contemporary Khams under the Chinese communist rule through the case study of the ’Ba’ rom bKa’ brgyud “meditation school of La phyi” (La phyi sgom grwa), centered around the cotton-clad gtum mo-accomplisher Tshul khrims mthar phyin (b. 1947), eulogized as the contemporary embodiment of Mi la ras pa. The main claim of this dissertation is that the ritual and social power of the Tibetan hermit lies in the performance, embodiment and final reconciliation of paradox – generally attaining soteriological goals in mundane life and specifically, resolving the dilemmas of Tibetans during times of perceived crisis. Acts of renunciation become an affirmative strategy, activating networks that have sustained hermits, their lineages, practices, and training venues for centuries. The reason for social empowerment of hermits lies in the radical nature of their training, which by social agreement is not only bound to generate liberation and enlightenment, but is even able to yield fruit “in this very body and life,” in emulation of Mi la ras pa. Such transformation of the body through meditation is crucial to the hermit’s ability to reconcile contradictions and to establish hermitages as venues for effective identity construction and spheres of autonomy and power, extracted from local history and sacred geography. Especially in times of crisis, hermitages tend to form networks and evolve into a movement for counter-culture, which circumvents or speaks against the established power structures of the day, but at the same time, maintains its essentially religious character.

Je(ux) en ligne : pour une approche socio-communicationnelle des technologies numériques et des formes de réflexivités culturelles / On-lIne gAMes : for a socio-communicational approach of digital technologies and cultural reflexivity forms

Zerbib, Olivier 12 December 2011 (has links)
How to demonstrate how the cultural arena has been changed by the digital technologies? Beyond the pro-technologies discourses, how to examine the variation (inferred by the digital technologies) between the audiences and the cultural objects? Which field to choose to try to understand the transformations resulting from the emergence of an hybrid and protean technology, without saying that computing is a cultural practice like the others?Describing the doubts and hesitations of this thesis, examining and contextualize them over time, make possible to contribute to the reception analysis and the cultural dynamics, in connection with the digital technologies. This long work has been exploring the uses of digital which, in their time, seemed to have to grow on as radically “modern”. So, in three times and three focal length, we chose to study three objects, apparently heterogeneous, but which must show the deep cultural changes due to the emergence of information and communication technologies. So, we have been studying some practices with different social and scientific status, from the readings in libraries to the videogames, along with dating sites or blogs. This methodology has finally led us to isolate a cross-disciplinary element of the studying objects and which the display is favored by the digital technologies: the rapid development of reflexive abilities of cultural audiences.
