Vem och vad äger sportbilagornas etta? : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av kvällstidningarnas sportbilagors förstasidor / Who and what owns the sports sections first page? : A quantitative content analysis of the tabloid newspapers sports sections first pages

Andersson, Jonas, Håkansson, Elias January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to illustrate how the Swedish tabloid press construct their sports sections front pages and what they present on these pages. A second purpose, and by the first following, was to investigate the items these newspapers offer the audience to add to their daily agendas. The aim to show a bigger picture of the front pages content was reached by implementing a content analysis of 196 front pages from the two largest tabloid newspapers in Sweden, Aftonbladet and Expressen, during a period of four years. The study examined 98 items per newspaper and since the aim was to examine sports journalism the units were chosen from the two newspapers sports sections, Sportbladet and SportExpressen. The great conclusions that were made during this process were the differences in between genders, the dominating sports and what big part sponsors have in sports. The most common front page shows a Swedish man playing football in the age between 20-35. A less common page is woman, playing any sport. She is only found on nine of a hundred front pages. As in the case of men, football is the dominating sport in Swedish tabloid press. On second place we found ice hockey. What we also could find was the big part sponsors have in sports. We saw the logos of sponsors on every second front page.

FGM in Swedish press : A dissertation examining the journalistic coverage of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Swedish press

John, Cornelia January 2017 (has links)
What topics are discussed within the female genital mutilation debate? And who gets to speak out? Are there any prominent patterns able to detect? This thesis tries to elaborate these thoughts examining the journalistic coverage of FGM in Swedish newspapers during the year of 2016. A content analysis of all published newspapers during the year of interest sets the empirical basis, and is supported by interviews with journalists covering the issue. The dissertation holds a constructionist approach meaning that the perception of reality is constructed, and thereof differs. This approach also clarifies that there is no constant truth, but several. Findings within the empirical data are mainly discussed connected to feminist theory as well as the concept of agenda-setting, eventually involving discussions about human rights issue as a value for journalism. What is clear here is that women are overrepresented within the debate, and are depicted as strong individuals, are seldom victimized or depicted in stereotyped gender roles as opposed by scholars. Meanwhile, participating journalists are somewhat semi-aware about their own portrayals since they opine that they are focusing on representing female characters in their articles. This might indicate that the FGM debate is unilaterally represented in some ways. The result also shows a clear pattern in representing FGM in media as a global issue treating the prevalence of FGM around the world, even when a domestic perspective is used. The issue of interest is also perceived as a procedure aiming to control women and/or their sexuality in a quite vast extent, scholarly as well as empirically

Mellan öst och väst, profetior och entreprenörskap, vetenskap och tro : Meningsproduktion om alternativa andligheter i svensk press och offentlighet 1899-1926 / Between East and West, Prophecies and Entrepreneurship, Science and Faith : Knowledge production of alternative spirituality in Swedish press and public 1899-1926

Selander, Josephine January 2018 (has links)
Around 1900 an interest towards non-Christian spirituality could be observed in Swedish society. There have been studies in spirituality, but little attention has been given in considering the circulation and transcultural exchange of knowledge production. The aim of this thesis is to show how knowledge of alternative spiritualty was constructed by the press’ description of encounters between spiritual go-betweens from India and America and the Swedish public between 1899 and 1926. By studying articles from daily papers, I propose that actors from diverse cultures, Swedish institutional arenas, and the public had a crucial part in the knowledge production of alternative spirituality. I argue that in the process of circulating and reformulating knowledge, a narrative was created: a mediation of alternative spirituality, custom-made and conducive for the Western audiences and their needs.

This purpose will be answered by using three specific questions asking whether their opinions differ when it comes to three criterions: organization, financing/resources and delivery systems. These criterions come from a model from Milton I. Nyhetsvärdering på första uppslaget : – En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av Sportbladets mest prioriterade nyheter –

Engström, Joel, Åström, Jesper January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to illustrate how the Swedish newspaper Sportbladet constructs their two leading pages in order to determine which are the most prioritized news and thereby reach an understanding regarding what is neglected. Framing studies, gender studies as well as studies of news values provides the theoretical underpinnings. The study is based on a quantitative content analysis and the empirical material is comprised of 728 articles. The aim is also to present a bigger picture of how the newspaper values its content and what kind of material is placed on the leading pages. The study found that football was the dominant sport followed by ice hockey and the primary focus was mens sports. In addition to this the sports mainly took place on Swedish soil with Swedish athletes involved.

Aleksej Navalnyj - liberal frihetskämpe eller nationalistisk populist? / Aleksej Navalnyj - liberal freedom fighter or nationalist populist?

Persson, Albin, Nyberg, Manfred January 2021 (has links)
For about a decade, the Russian opposition politician Aleksej Navalnyj has been a topic in the Swedish news media. Particularly since the end of august 2020, when suspected of having been poisoned with the neurotoxin novitjok. Often described as a freedom fighter in the Swedish press, Navalnyj, however, has a quite varied background in both liberal and nationalist groups. Since the poisoning, however, questions have been raised about Navalnyjs past, who he actually is, and what he wants to achieve. Yet, he tends to be described as a freedom fighter in most texts. In this essay we aim to examine not the narrative of Navalnyjs fight against Vladimir Putin's Russia, but how he is framed in the Swedish news press. To do so, we combine a quantitative digital text analysis with a qualitative frame analysis. By applying a theoretical framework based on acknowledged media theories such as framing and priming theory combined with earlier studies on the topic, we find that Navalnyj tends to be framed as a kind of antithesis to the Russian regime and Putin. Also, it seems the conflict is not limited to the borders of Russia, nor to the Russian people. The European Union is reported to take interest in the conflict, for example, taking Navalnyjs side. A logical explanation may be found in the view on Russia in the Swedish society, which is employed as a frame in the media and hence gets reproduced into society.

De tysta åren : Ekofeminism i svensk tryckt press 1995-2016 / The silent years : Ecofeminism in Swedish printed press 1995-2016

Elander, Angelina January 2017 (has links)
The silent years: ecofeminism in Swedish printed press 1995-2016 Ecofeminism figures in both political and philosophical contexts and is an ideology that combines feminism with environmental policy. It builds its ideology to counteract a patriarchal oppression against both women and nature, saying that this oppression stems from a historical perception of the woman standing closer to nature. The self-elevation of the white man to God during the industrialism era used this historical image in the justification to exercise power towards both women and nature, which is said to be ongoing to the greatest extent today. By considering how Swedish printed press depict ecofeminism between the years 1995-2016, this paper has been designed to determine if this relationship of power remains and define how it is expressed. The essay also investigates whether a discourse on ecofeminism is mediated in Swedish press. Central Issues: How is ecofeminism produced in Swedish printed press between 1995 and 2016? What power structures appear around ecofeminism and who get their voices heard? Why was nothing written about ecofeminism for 5 of the 11 investigated years? Methods: To find this out, this essay has used triangulation as an overarching method containing quantitative analysis, content analysis and analysis of visual communication. Conclusions: This essay indicate that the repression remains and becomes evident in the relationship between Swedish press and ecofeminism. Ecofeminism is expressed as difficult for the public and is often confused with specificity feminism in what appears to be a strategic goal of repression by means of disinformation. / <p>Betygssättande lärare: Per Vesterlund. Nationalism och Norrientalism : En diskursanalys av den norrländska självständighetsdebatten sensommaren 2016 och framåt / Nationalism and Norrientalism : A Discourse Analysis of the Norrlandic Independence Debate of Late Summer 2016 and Beyond

Bergström, Tim, Eriksson, Jon January 2017 (has links)
The student thesis Nationalism and Norrientalism: A Discourse Analysis of the Norrlandic Independence Debate of Late Summer 2016 and Beyond aims to examine the style and content of the recent secession debate in the Swedish and Norrlandic printed press. From the late summer of 2016 to the beginning of 2017 the question of Norrlandic sovereignty was a prioritized topic in the legacy media debate, as well as in social media. It commenced after the Swedish government enterprise Vattenfall planned to relocate forty employment opportunities from Jokkmokk, raising the question of Norrlandic independence based on a post-colonialist view of the region. This thesis examines how the framing of Northern Sweden as a colony has been established, re-established or refuted in the different discourses of the printed debate, through a faceted lens composed of various theories of Orientalism and nationalism. Rooted in the discourse theory of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, merged with the critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough, and leaning against media theories of inoculation and framing, the study takes aim at the myths, metaphors, articulations and antagonisms which constituted the polemics in the printed press of the period. The results conclude that the debate revolved around independence, resources, and the myth regarding Norrland—often described as a barren landscape, marked by vast distances and a lack of social services. The term colony was used to describe Norrland as marginalised and robbed of its natural resources, whereas the term was met by opposition from the objecting side, who emphasised the historic and present representation of Norrlanders in high politics. The colonial identity was constituted in the press through internal Orientalism by Stockholm writers and self-Orientalisation by Norrlandic ones. The most distinct patterns of difference between the objecting side and the advocating side of independence was the determination of the real economic loser of a Norrlandic secession from Sweden.
