Transpersoner lider en ökad risk jämfört med övrig befolkning att utveckla psykisk och fysisk ohälsa, samt en rejält förhöjd risk för suicid. Trots detta mår många transpersoner bra och är generellt nöjda med sitt liv och sitt mående. Fram till idag har inga svenska studier gjorts kring vad i transidentiteten som gör att många transpersoner också mår bra. Detta arbete har därmed ämnat undersöka positiva aspekter med att vara trans, hur dessa kan ta sig i uttryck och hur deltagarna upplevt dem, i ett försök att konceptualisera begreppet minoritetsglädje. Fem transmän och sex transkvinnor har genom semistrukturerade intervjuer besvarat frågor om vad minoritetsglädje innebär för dem, och med hjälp av en tematisk analys genererades sju teman.  Temana beskriver hur deltagarna upplevt och upplever mycket glädje och lycka tack vare sin identitet, där den mest återkommande glädjen beskrivs i samband med att kunna leva autentiskt för sig själv och omgivningen. Även aspekter som att känna könseufori, att ha tillgång till och kunna bidra till communityt samt att få en ökad insikt och förståelse för samhällsstrukturer och privilegier gav deltagarna en känsla av syfte, och glädje. Precis som minoritetsstress är unika hälsopåfrestningar för minoritetspersoner är minoritetsglädje för dessa deltagare den unika glädjen som bara kan upplevas som minoritet, eller bara som transperson. Resultaten går i linje med tidigare positiva aspekter som framkommit i studier med transpersoner, men arbetet bidrar också med viktig information som aldrig tidigare konceptualiserats på svensk nivå och som kan nyansera såväl den vetenskapliga som den samhälleliga debatten om transpersoners mående.

Online networking and real-time interaction for musicians

Despite the many technological advancements made in the music industry in recent years, there is still not a single widely adopted platform for musicians to play music together online. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent quarantine pushed the need for such a platform into the spotlight. As a response, the music company Elk Audio launched their new product: Aloha. Aloha is a combined hardware and web application that allows musicians to play music in real-time over the Internet. Aloha is currently only intended for musicians who already know each other to connect and play. However, Elk's ambition is to make it the go-to platform for musicians to expand their network.  The purpose of this Master's Thesis is to design the next version of the web application of Aloha, focusing on social interactions. This Master's Thesis investigates musicians' current social and musical behaviour, and their opinions of how this can be done online. Qualitative data was collected by performing semi-structured interviews with musicians of different backgrounds. The study revealed many different goals and needs of potential users of Aloha. Furthermore, we found several determining factors which enable and encourage musicians to form new musical relationships online. The final suggested design is based on the analysed data and founded in theory regarding persuasive and recommending system design, among others. / Trots de tekniska framstegen som gjorts inom musikindustrin de senaste åren, finns det fortfarande inte ett enda allmänt accepterat alternativ för musiker att spela musik tillsammans online. Covid-19 pandemin och den åtföljande karantänten förde behovet för en sådan plattform till rampljuset. I början av år 2020 insåg musikföretaget Elk Audio att de kunde fylla denna lucka med sin nya produkt: Aloha. Aloha är en kombinerad hårdvara och webbapplikation som möjliggör musiker att spela musik i realtid över Internet. Aloha är för närvarande endast avsedd för musiker som redan känner varandra. Elks ambition är dock att göra Aloha till en plattform för musiker där de kan utöka sitt musikaliska nätverk. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att utforma nästa version av Alohas webbapplikation, med fokus på sociala interaktioner. Detta examensarbete undersöker musikers nuvarande sociala och musikaliska beteenden och deras åsikter om musikaliska interaktioner online. Kvalitativa data samlades in genom att utföra halvstrukturerade intervjuer med musiker från olika bakgrunder. Studien avslöjade de många olika målen och behoven hos potentiella användare av Aloha. Dessutom fann vi flera avgörande faktorer som möjliggör och uppmuntrar musiker att skapa och underhålla nya musikrelationer online. English as a foreign language instructors' conceptions and applications of communicative language teaching in grammar lessons : the case of four private universities in Ethiopia

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been adopted in various countries in the world. This is especially true in an EFL context in Ethiopia where it has received considerable attention both at policy and classroom levels. This study aimed to investigate English as Foreign Language (EFL) instructors' conceptions and applications of CLT in teaching grammar lessons in private universities in Ethiopia. Due to the nature of the issues addressed in the study, the mixed-methods approach was employed. The data for the study were collected from 25 EFL instructors teaching in four private universities through semi-structured interviews, quantitative questionnaire, and classroom observation. The qualitative data collected from the semi-structured interviews and classroom observation were analysed thematically, using deductive thematic analysis. The quantitative data garnered through the questionnaire were analysed using the latest version of SPPS (Version 20) available at the time of data analysis. While the study highlighted four major EFL instructors' misconceptions stemming from the discrepancies in understanding the term communicative, it revealed that the majority of the EFL instructors' conceptions of CLT were consistent with the CLT literature. To that effect, the study illuminated the EFL instructors' conceptions of grammar and CLT concerning the teacher’s role, the learners’ role, the types of teaching materials, the place for grammar in CLT as well as the methods of teaching grammar lessons and assessing the learners’ performance in grammar lessons. Nevertheless, the classroom practices of the majority of the EFL instructors were inconsistent with their conceptions of CLT because they predominantly employed the lecture method to teach grammar lessons. The study also found various socio-cultural and economic variables practically affecting the application of CLT in teaching grammar lessons in private universities in Ethiopia. Consequently, the study identified teacher-related factors, student-related factors, institutional factors, curriculum-related factors, and system-related factors as the main difficulties of implementing CLT in teaching grammar lessons. The study recommends that measures that align policy with practice should be taken to ensure that the instructors' conceptions are realised in classroom situations, thereby minimising the discrepancies between their conceptions and their classroom practices. / English Studies / Ph. Samtalsledares erfarenheter av digitala nätverksträffar : med fokus på kommunikation, ur ett delaktighetsperspektiv / Moderators' experiences of digital meetings for networking : highlighting communication, participation and engagement

Under våren 2021 har det organiserade lärande nätverket för chefer, Nätverk för engagerat ledarskap i Region Jönköpings län, haft digitala träffar genom mötesplattformen Cisco eller Skype i stället för fysiska träffar p.g.a. de rådande samhällsrestriktionerna. Rapporten belyser samtalsledares och nätverks-deltagares mellanmänskliga interaktion och deras anpassningar till digitala arbetssätt, under en tidsperiod där digitaliseringen inom hälso- och sjukvården påskyndats av covid-19-pandemin. Undersökningens syfte är att beskriva samtalsledares erfarenheter av digitala nätverksträffar (vid Nätverket för engagerat ledarskap i Region Jönköpings län) med fokus på kommunikation och vad de beskriver för möjliga förbättringar, utifrån ett delaktighetsperspektiv. Samtliga 40 samtalsledare blev tillfrågade att medverka i undersökningen, varav sex (6) gjorde intresseanmälan. En av dem avbokade dagen innan och fem (5) genomförde gruppintervjun digitalt på mötesplattformen Zoom. Intervjun spelades in efter samtycke och varade 60 minuter. Materialet bearbetades först genom en förenklad induktiv tematisk analys, med stöd av en analysguide inspirerad av Braun och Clarke (2006). Därefter beskrevs analysresultatet utifrån ICF:s första nivå för att belysa resultatet ur ett delaktighetsperspektiv. Fyra teman framkom; digitala utmaningar, mellanmänskliga interaktioner, framtidens behov och ”kriterier” för framgångsrikt digitalt nätverkande. Ett stort problem vid de digitala nätverksträffarna har varit bristande eller fördröjd feedback. Ett annat problem har varit svårigheter med sammanhållningen och att skapa tillit i det digitala rummet. Examensarbetet har gett upphov till förbättringsförslag för ett framgångsrikt digitalt nätverkande ur ett delaktighetsperspektiv. Digitala nätverksträffar kan ses som ett alternativ eller komplement till fysiska träffar även i framtiden. Kanske kan vi framöver hitta det ”bästa receptet” för digitala nätverksträffar för en effektiv och jämlik hälso- och sjukvårdsorganisation? / During the spring of 2021, the organized learning network for managers, Network for Engaged Leadership in Region Jönköping County, has held digital meetings in applications provided by Cisco and Skype instead of having physical meetings due to the current societal restrictions. The report highlights interpersonal interaction between moderators and networking participants, and their adaptations to digital ways of working, in a time where digitalization in healthcare has been accelerated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the survey is to describe moderators' experiences with digital networking meetings (at the Network for Engaged Leadership in Region Jönköping County). The study focuses on communications and how improvements can be made to increase the participation and the engagement of the participants. All 40 moderators within the network were asked to participate in the survey, of which six (6) made expressions of interest. One of them canceled the day before and five (5) participated in the group interview digitally using the application Zoom. The interview was recorded with consent and lasted 60 minutes. The material was first processed through a simplified inductive thematic analysis, supported by a guide inspired by Braun and Clarke (2006). The results were then described, using the first level of the ICF, in terms of participation. Four themes were deduced: digital challenges, interpersonal interactions, future needs, and "criteria" for successful digital networking. The lack or delay of feedback has caused major issues at the meetings. Other difficulties have been the lack of affinity and trust within the group. This study has resulted in several proposals for improving digital networking by increasing accessibility. Digital networking meetings can be seen as an alternative or a complement to physical meetings. Dobré vládnutí v teorii a praxi / Good Governance in Theory and Practice

This master's thesis offers comprehensive perspective of good governance concept in a theoretical level as well as from a practical point of view with emphasis on the Czech Republic. The objective of the thesis is to investigate the theoretical background of the good governance concept and its basic principles, focused on dealing with the concept in the Czech Republic. The work also provides the assessment of the critical points associated with the good governance concept implementation and attempts to provide the possible solutions to eliminate these points. Thirteen research interviews were conducted with the public administration staff members and the leading experts in the field to analyze the current state of good governance in the Czech Republic. Thematic analysis was utilized for this purpose and results have shown that good governance is not broadly applied yet. Besides the apparent issues such as problems with human resources, communication, politicization of public administration, departmentalism or absence of long-term vision, the key obstacle to implementation of the good governance concept in the Czech Republic seems to be low level of cultural and social standards.

Violence against women continues to be an issue that severely impacts women worldwide. Since the global spread of the #MeToo movement in 2017, debates regarding this issue significantly increased. Yet the precise ways in which women are impacted by violence, heavily influenced by their unique and diverse aspects of identity, are often disregarded. By focusing on two of these aspects of identity, namely gender and nationality, and comparing the circumstances of sexual violence against women in Germany, Nigeria, and South Korea, this thesis aims to showcase the diverse experiences of ‘being a woman’ and what this implies regarding the issue of sexual violence against women. With an additional analysis of four important international conventions aimed at ameliorating women’s lives (UDHR, CEDAW, DEVAW, and BPfA) regarding their acknowledgement of this diversity and guided by three theories, namely Multi-Ethnic Feminism, Feminist Postcolonialism, and Intersectionality, this thesis highlights the necessity of including everyone and their unique experiences with all kinds of discrimination to adequately tackle an issue such as sexual violence against women.

Syftet med denna examensuppsats var att kvalitativt undersöka upplevelsen av minoritetsstress samt dess påverkan och hantering hos homosexuella i Sverige. Detta gjordes genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med tio personer i åldern 22 till 44 år, vars berättelser analyserades med hjälp av en tematisk analys. Resultatet visar på en utbredd upplevelse av minoritetsstress inom flera områden i samhället och livet. Minoritetsstressen berodde på alltifrån hat och avståndstagande, diskriminering, utanförskap, heteronormativt bemötande, exotifiering och internaliserad homofobi till problem vid kontakt med myndigheter, vård och juridik. Minoritetsstressen upplevdes ge en sämre psykisk hälsa, ge upphov till komplexa negativa känslor, begränsa livsutrymmet, dränera energi samt ge upphov till en förhöjd rädsla och vaksamhet för potentiellt ofarliga situationer. Strategier för hantering av minoritetsstressen omfattade allt från socialt stöd, arbete med sin självbild och gränssättning till engagemang för hbtq+- frågor. Informanternas vittnesmål gick i linje med internationell forskning på samma område och kunde vidare förstås när de ställdes bredvid tidigare fynd och teorier kring minoritetsstress och hanteringsstrategier. Vittnesmålen visade även på minoritetsstressens komplexa verkan och genes. Resultatet indikerar ett stort behov av kunskap om homosexuellas utsatthet och livsvillkor inom samhällets alla arenor. For this purpose, a qualitative research is conducted, devided into two consecutive research activities. In the first activity are used semistructured interviews to collect the data and the grounded theory is used for data analysis. In the second activity are used methods "thinking aloud" and practical information seeking based on model scenarios. Results of the second research activity are evaluated by thematic analysis and task analysis. The findings have broadenend and deepend the state of current knowledge concerning the information seeking in the mobile environment. We consider exploration of limiting factors that affect information seeking in mobile environment as one of the most beneficial result as well as discovery of two extreme styles of information seeking in mobile environment. Navigating Anonymity in Online Communities: A Multilevel Perspective : Examining user experiences and perceptions of online anonymity in the Fishbrain enthusiast community

This study examines the intricate dynamics of online anonymity in the context of Fishbrain, a platform for fishing enthusiasts. By conducting semi-structured interviews with ten Fishbrain users, I scrutinized the experiences and understanding of online anonymity through a deductive thematic analysis approach. This research was further underpinned by a comprehensive platform analysis. Using Eklund et al.'s framework [15], I studied six themes that encompass both macro and micro-regulating structures that govern online anonymity. The research findings highlight the pivotal role of these structures, revealing that users frequently balance the advantages of disclosing personal information against potential risks. This study accentuates the need to consider a spectrum of factors—commercial, legal, and technological structures, alongside the factual, social group, and physical facets of anonymity—when investigating online anonymity. This research expands the existing body of knowledge on online anonymity and provides valuable insights for platforms like Fishbrain to better address their users' concerns and customize their features and policies effectively.

The Use and Utility of Disaster Facebook Groups for Managing Communication Networks after the Camp Fire: A Case Study of the Unique Spaces for Connection for Survivors' Resilience and Recovery

With natural disasters occurring with more frequency and severity, understanding how to facilitate survivors’ resilience and recovery is becoming increasingly important. The Camp Fire in California, which started on November 8, 2018, was one of the most destructive wildfires in recorded history in terms of loss of life and damage to property. Aid from many types of entities (e.g., non-profits, governments, and for-profits) at various levels (e.g., local, state, and federal) was available to survivors, but perhaps the most influential source of support was Disaster Facebook Groups. In the month after the Camp Fire, around 50 Camp Fire Facebook Groups (CFFGs) were created, with over 100 CFFGs existing over the course of recovery. CFFGs are Facebook Groups with the goal of helping Camp Fire survivors. The support exchanged in CFFGs was immense and ranged from financial assistance to emotional support to community building. <br><br>This dissertation offers a mixed-method, event-specific case study of the use and utility of Disaster Facebook Groups after the Camp Fire. I examined how CFFGs offered unique and valuable spaces for connection that allowed members to engage in resilience organizing and disaster response and recovery. To conduct this case study, after engaging in observations of the Groups for over two years, I interviewed 25 administrators of CFFGs and distributed a survey in the Groups that was completed by survivors of the Camp Fire who were members of at least one CFFG during their recovery. I used network perspectives and the Communication Theory of Resilience (Buzzanell, 2010, 2019) as lenses through which administrators’ and survivors’ experiences with CFFGs was understood. I also analyzed the two datasets using multiple and mixed methods but primarily thematic analysis and path modeling. <br><br>The analyses for this case study are presented in four studies. The first two studies provide an understanding of the spaces for connection offered by CFFGs (i.e., characterizing the CFFGs and describing the spaces for connection as both helpful and hurtful), while the last two studies examine the use and utility of CFFGs (i.e., explaining the evolution of activity in CFFGs and investigating the connectivity and social support in CFFGs). <br><br>Across the four studies, I explored three central arguments, which are the primary contributions of this dissertation. First, I advocated for incorporating network thinking into resilience theorizing. With the findings of this dissertation, I extend the Communication Theory of Resilience by offering “managing communication networks” as a refinement of its fourth process of resilience (i.e., using and maintaining communication networks). Managing communication networks addresses the active strategies people use to manage their communication networks, including expanding, contracting, maintaining, and using their communication networks, as they endure and overcome hardship. I also forward the argument that people’s resilience is encompassed by their social networks, meaning their social network can be passively implicated by their resilience or actively involved in their resilience, but can also initiate resilience on their behalf.<br><br>Second, I contended Disaster Facebook Groups offer unique and valuable spaces for connection that facilitate resilience organizing and disaster response for at least five reasons. I argued that Disaster Facebook Groups empower emergent organizing; privilege local knowledge; are convenient; lack anonymity which adds authenticity; and allow for individualization. The findings of this dissertation provide evidence of how these reasons converged in CFFGs to enable members to exchange support that was not, and could not be, available elsewhere.<br><br>Third, I hypothesized that the use of Disaster Facebook Groups would predict the utility of Disaster Facebook Groups, resilience, and recovery for survivors. I tested two models that use different variables to represent the use and utility of CFFGs and recovery from the Camp Fire. The first model investigated how activity in CFFGs influenced the perceived helpfulness of CFFGs and how both the activity in and perceived helpfulness of CFFGs influenced the extent of recovery for survivors. I used retrospective data about five time points across survivors’ first two years of recovery and found the model was most explanative up to one month after the Fire. The second model assessed how various indicators of connectivity in CFFGs impacted received social support (i.e., informational, emotional, and tangible support), resilience, and satisfaction with recovery for survivors. The intensity of survivors’ connections to CFFGs, when they joined their first CFFG, and how many Facebook Friends they gained from their participation in CFFGs were the most predictive indicators of connectivity. From the Groups, survivors reported receiving informational support more than emotional support and emotional support more than tangible support.<br><br>I put the findings of the four studies, as well as the three central arguments, in conversation with each other in the discussion section, focusing on theory, practice, and methodology. Regarding theory, I contribute network thinking to resilience theorizing: I underscore resilience as an inherently networked process; I acknowledge expanding and contracting communication networks as sub-processes of resilience that complement but are distinctly different from using and maintaining communication networks; and I forward “managing communication networks” as a refinement and extension of the Communication Theory of Resilience’s fourth process of resilience (i.e., using and maintaining communication networks). Related to practice, I call for the continuation of conversations around Disaster Facebook Groups as unique and valuable spaces for connection, particularly regarding the five reasons I established. I also give suggestions for practice related to the use and utility of Disaster Facebook Groups for disaster response and recovery. For methodological considerations, I discuss the importance of forming relationships with participants when engaging in research about online communities and natural disasters and call to question the translation of findings about social media across platforms and the role of neoliberalism in resilience and disaster research and practice. Despite its limitations, this dissertation makes meaningful contributions to theory, practice, and methodology, while offering fruitful directions for future research. This mixed-method, event-specific case study brings attention to the influential citizen-driven disaster response in Facebook Groups after the Camp Fire. <br>
