Academia ao ar livre e a percepção de qualidade de vida de idosos / Outdoor gym and elderly people\'s perception of quality of life

Trindade, Carlos Santana 16 December 2015 (has links)
Brazilian estimate for 2025 is that we can reach more than 32 million elderly people, making it a significant portion of the population that requires special attention in all public sectors. Studies show that regular physical activity for the elderly has a role in modifying risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Taking into account the increase in the elderly population and the benefits that physical activity can provide them, many municipalities are investing in fitness equipments, called \"Outdoor Gym\" (OG), aiming to positively change the quality of life (QOL) and physical fitness. Objectives: To investigate whether the use of unsupervised OGs can positively change the perception of QOL, health parameters and physical fitness of the elderly population. Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in Ribeirão Preto, with seniors over 60 years, divided into 2 groups: GROUP 1 _ Seniors who use the proportion of up to 50% of their total time of daily physical activity at the OG. GROUP 2 _ Seniors who use the proportion from 51 to 100% of their total time of daily physical activity at the OG. The studied variables were: sociodemographic characteristics, cognitive screening (MEEM), Geriatric Depression (EDG-15), Quality of Life (WHOQUOL-Abrev), habitual physical activity level (IPAq), health parameters (WHR, BMI, SBP and DBP) and physical fitness (AAHPERD test battery). The processing of data was by descriptive statistics, with comparisons between the groups and General Functional Fitness Index (GFFI), WHOQUOL Abrev, WHR, BMI, SBP and DBP, through t-Student test. To compare the total score of the GDS-15 between groups, the Mann-Whitney test (nonparametric) was proposed. Associations between groups for the assessed variables were made using Fisher\'s exact test. For all analyzes it was adopted a 5% significance level. Results: The sample consisted of 41 participants aged between 60 to 79 years old, with female predominance (78%), with an even distribution between the years of study. In this sample, 68.29% gave high marks to the relationship of OG and importance to health. In Health perception variable, 90.25% say they are \"Satisfied / Very Satisfied\", for QOL 97.56% they say they have \"good/very good\". For WHOQUOL-Abrev, there were high values, distributed evenly between the groups, with the highest percentage for the Physical (83.90%) and the lowest for Social Affairs (76.58%). For the GDS-15 variable, the average (2.02 ± 1.76) was below the cutoff point. Regarding health parameters, values of variables WHR (0.88 ± 0.06), BMI (26.08 ± 3.49), SBP (123.59 ± 12.36) and DBP (82.83 ± 12 93) are within normal limits. According to the IPAQ, 95.12% of the sample were classified as \"active\". Physical fitness evaluation results (AAHPERD) showed GFFI of 195.95 ± 74.27, classified as \"weak\". Final Thoughts: The data point to a positive relationship between the use of unsupervised OGs and the perception of QOL. However, it was evident that even with a high habitual physical activity levels (HPAL), elderly users showed lower values for the physical capabilities. This may be due to unsupervised practice, which generates an inefficient execution of the exercises, which may possibly be reversed with the presence of a professional, creating a new situation for future investigation

Leadership in Open Innovation : An exploratory study on the nature of R&D projects and predominant leadership characteristics in industry-academia collaborations

Wenzlaff, Jana, Singh, Aakriti January 2015 (has links)
This study looks at Open Innovation in Research and Development projects and explores the nature of collaboration and leadership characteristics. Thereby perspectives of both industrial and academic partners are considered, focusing primarily on the project level of the collaboration. It is based on the understanding that leadership plays a crucial role in bringing the partners successfully together, based on the prior understanding that academia and industry are potentially different in the nature, objectives and working dynamics of research and development.   This thesis begins with examining the existing literature on the concept of Open Innovation, including benefits and drawbacks of such projects. This leads to uncovering the managerial challenges that such projects encounter which can be mitigated by effective leadership. For this reason, relevant theories on leadership are explored, especially focusing on leadership in R&D contexts, as these kind of projects have special requirements from leaders that differ from traditional projects.  This research is qualitative in nature and takes an abductive approach to theory. 18 semi-structured interviews were conducted, consulting with heads of R&D departments from industrial companies, professors in charge of research labs at universities and representatives from intermediary organisations. The study is exploratory and cross-sectional in nature, as open innovation collaborations in Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands were in the centre of attention. The process of analysis implied the use of a template analysis, which provided the researchers with enough flexibility to code, categorize, and interpret necessary findings. The results show that the nature of Open Innovation collaborations differs from case to case, from mere contractual relationships to collaborative partnerships with a high level of interaction on a daily basis. The key motive for both partners is finance-based, as the universities gain access to funding and the company can save on research expenses. Additionally, companies benefit from access to academic expertise and from potential governmental funding.  Further, there is not a single leader in an industry-university collaboration, rather each entity has a leader of their own and collaborative working is fostered by them. It is deduced that no single leadership theory fits best in the operational level of R&D open innovation functioning, rather it is a mixture of a few popular theories which were predominant in collaborative relationships. The characteristics of leaders in open innovation were deduced and autonomy, communication and joint problem-solving have a prominent role in furthering the R&D collaborative relationship. As a result, a connection between leadership and Open Innovation collaborations was explored.

Hallenius, Mikael January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse and discuss the argumentation for theplace of History in the Swedish school system from the perspective ofeducation philosophy. The material that has been investigated is theYearbook of the Association of History Teachers (HLFÅ). In connectionto this, two questions have been asked: (1) What sort of argumentationhas there been in HLFÅ on the place of History in the Swedish schoolsystem from the time the Yearbook started to be published in 1942 until2004 when the Swedish parliament decided that the subject should beobligatory for all pupils in gymnasiet (senior high school)? (2) In whatway has education philosophy been taken into consideration in the argumentationon the place of History in HLFÅ between 1942 and 2004? Thebackground to these questions is partly that during the whole of the1900s it has been far from obvious what place History should have in theupper levels of the Swedish school system. Also, I have partly found itfruitful to study HLFÅ from the perspective of education philosophy. In chapter 1, we give a deeper presentation of HLFÅ. After that followsan overview of research into the teaching and learning of History (Historydidactics). The chapter ends with the three leitmotifs based on this research.I identify as leitmotifs areas that are identified clearly and repeatedlyin History didactics and that are seen as relevant to structure myanalysis of HLFÅ. The three leitmotifs are: (1) the relation between Historyand academia, (2) the social potential of History, (3) the use of Historyin the service of peace. These have structured the presentation in thetwo analysis chapters of the thesis (chapters 4 and 5).Chapter 2 discusses the thesis methodology, theoretical perspective andquestions. The methodology is an analysis of argumentation based onhermeneutics. The theoretical perspectives used in the study are educationphilosophies. My use of the theory builds on my reading of TheodorBrameld and Tomas Englund. The four education philosophies used toanalyse the argumentation are: (1) progressivism, (2) essentialism, (3)perennialism, (4) reconstructivism. In chapter 3, the background to thestudy is presented. The areas that are focused on are the changes in theSwedish school system during the 1900s, the subject of History in figures, and glimpses from the public debate on history in general and thesubject of History in Sweden. In chapter 4, we cover the period from1942-1970, and in chapter 5 we cover in a similar way the period from1971-2004. Both chapters begin with a chronological overview of theargumentation in the articles. After that, the material is analysed wherethe presentation is structured based on the three leitmotifs which arediscussed from an education philosophy perspective.Chapter 6 is a summarizing discussion. There we make it clear that progressivismis almost completely absent from the argumentation aroundthe place of History in Swedish schools in HLFÅ. Instead, the studyshows that it is a combination of essentialism and perennialism that dominatesthe way of maintaining the merits of History. Regarding reconstructivism,it is stated that it is subordinate to essentialism and perennialism. The study ends with suggestions for further research. Since theargumentation has consistently made the claim that History can givepeople a feeling of safety in their surroundings, understand their place inlife and create peace in the world, it is suggested that further analysisshould be made of similar material from the perspective of civil religion.A point of departure in this research is that secular societies partly takeover, and partly re-work, the rites and cosmologies of religious institutions,in order to create solidarity in modern societies. My hypothesis isthat this perspective would strengthen the thought that there are civilreligious practices on Swedish soil in connection with the educationworld.

Career advancement experiences of African academic women working at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa campus

Molotsi, Matshidiso Mercy 03 1900 (has links)
African women in academia face various career advancement challenges. Employers’ support interventions need to be reinforced to promote an increase of African women in leadership positions. This study on the career advancement experiences of African women in leadership positions within an academic institution is exploratory in nature and based on the qualitative research method. The purpose of the study is to document the challenges, supporting factors, and strategies used by African women in academia in order to guide universities and the African women employed there who aspire to advance their careers. The data collection methods involved were in-depth interviews and a focus group. Purposive and snowball sampling methods in the form of convenience sampling were used to identify potential research participants. The sample for the study consisted of African women who were academics in leadership positions working at the Medunsa campus of the University of Limpopo. Data was analysed using thematic analysis. The results of the study suggest that African women who are academics experience career advancement challenges. Such challenges include family demands and lack of leadership training. Family support and their dedication contribute towards their advancement. Leadership training programmes and supporting structures should be established to reinforce their advancement. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

This thesis aims to prove how the slave system had influence upon medical knowledge and its practices, at the beginning of the Brazilian Empire. Medical texts, written between 1830 and 1850, make evident that the slaves were present in the professional current activities, or as accessible bodies or as patients. These writings represented medical discourse and were published in periodicals related to the Imperial Academy of Medicine. Practical training at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia’s infirmaries was essential for students and doctors to acquire and to produce knowledge. Therefore, the intensive reading of medical texts make possible to establish connections between slavery and medical learning. Then the hypothesis proposed is that in a society based on slave labor, such as Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century, the salve body is always present in medical practice and theory. Slaves could be doctors’ patients or even their material for experiments and their object for testing new treatments.

Araujo, Rafael de Borba January 2013 (has links)
This paper analyzes the development of concepts from the Doctrine of the Revolutionary War and their implementation by the "Brigada Militar", the military police of Rio Grande do Sul, from the mid 50s on. It is based on theses written by students graduating with degrees in military science from the Military Police Academy between 1980 and 1985. In this paper, the choice of time-period and theme addresses the role of the Brazilian Military Police within both the international context of the Cold War and the domestic context of the National Security Doctrine, which was institutionalized in the country after the promulgation of the Constitutional Charter of 1967. The Doctrine intended to prevent the "communization" of the country and, combined with an economic development program, turn it into a Western bloc power. Through this Doctrine, a model of militarized policing was deployed, which determined the actions of the military police in an anticipated situation of civil war with subversive enemies acting from within the country.

Petró, Camila Albani January 2016 (has links)
This study has as an object the Academia Literária Feminina do Rio Grande do Sul (ALFRS), founded in Porto Alegre by the year of 1943, being still in activity in the city until the present day (2016). This dissertation has as a main question to understand what were the thoughts and practices permead by gender constituted this feminine literary institution, as well as, its transformation from the 1940s to 1970s in Porto Alegre. The time frame clipping has embraced the ALFRS creation period and its first thirty initial years, encompassing the Institution meeting minutes in the sources used in this study from 1943 to 1973, its bylaws, and the Atenéia magazine, that had been published from 1949 to 1972. Through the category of gender, this study has had as an outlook to track back which speeches permeated the Academy, either internally, through its meetings minutes, or externally, by means of its magazine editorials. Initially, the reasons of its creation were examined, to understand how this women uniquely literary academy was structured and what were its first initial characteristics, further the journal general informations, which was the cultural cooperation executive body and acted in the ALFRS interests defence. Afterward, three perspectives guided the narrative structure: the “inward academy” (establishment, organization and ALFRS internally practices transformations and placements over the course of its first three decades – 1943-1973); “the outside in academy” (ALFRS themes and purposes taken to the external public by the editorials of Atenéia) and, finally, “from the outside in Academy to inward Academy and vice versa” (political senses from an apparently non-committal writing in the editorials of Atenéia).

Sampaio, Emilio Davi January 2014 (has links)
Through telluric poetic, written by poets belonging to Sul-Mato-Grossense Letters Academy, we propose to discuss questions on identity and representation. The study has got as temporal cut the decades of 1980,1990 and 2000 and focus only on poetic texts published on the two Academy journals: Suplemento Cutural and a Revista Academia Sul-Mato-Grossense de Letras. The investigative look centers on the texts literary aspects, and the discussion is based on the assumption that the poetic content can reveal, in terms of representation, the sul-matogrossense people cultural identity, having cultural identity as belonging feeling related to a space. To the poetic texts analytical-interpretative reading, we used, basically, the Roman Ingarden's strata-layers' theory.

The objectives of the study are to investigate how the body is built on the practices and discourses of a women’s fitness center, which control mechanisms, and profiles of femininity constituted in everyday fitness facility. Moreover, it is also a main interest of this study to examine the practices of an organized sociability, as to understand the socio anthropological construction of the body in the context of those health centers. The research involves middle-aged adult women attending a women's fitness club and the results are structured into main axes of analysis, namely: the morality of practices around the body, the represented tangible types and the not stated performance identified by body movements. The study revealed that the corporeality is constituted by a broad network of meanings that involves my own body as revealed the survey. Therefore, the femininity stands out and pervades the maternal, the marital, the media and the religious fields, such as the changes that happen during the middle-aged period; a dynamic of permanent construction between subjects and the social environment.
