Varför arbetar vi läsfrämjande? : En tematisk analys av historiska förhållningssätt till barns läsning

Axelsson, Ellen January 2018 (has links)

Nurses in continuing education, their information needs and use of libraries : A user study.

Elmerstål, Britt-Mari January 2015 (has links)
This Master´s thesis is a user study of nurses participating in continuing education. The nurses graduated before 1993, when education to become a nurse changed in Sweden. Now they are studying for 40 credits in Nursing at a university in order to get the same level of education as a newly graduated nurse. They were also working as nurses when this study took place. The main purpose of the study is to increase the understanding of what kind of information the nurses think they need and to find out if and in what way they use libraries in their studies and in their work. The empirical material was collected by qualitative, semi-structured interviews with six nurses. To analyze the answers Kuhlthau´s model of information search process, Sundin´s concept of the symbolic value of professional information and Wilson´s concept of cognitive authority were used. The results of this study show that the nurses need course literature, scientific articles and help to search for information in databases. They all felt anxiety for not finding the right information exactly as Kuhlthau´s model shows. The nurses know it is important to keep updated with new information in their specialty in nursing and they know where to find the information. Professional information could help the nurses in their cooperation with other occupational groups, for example physicians. They all use libraries; to borrow books, find articles and also to use the librarian´s expertise in searching. They prefer to visit the medical library at their work and they appreciate the library staff´s knowledge.

”Om man börjar från början”. Litteracitetspraktiker i flerspråkiga familjer med små barn. / “It all starts at the beginning”. Literacy practices in multilingual families with young children.

Qurik, Yvonne January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis is to investigate how parents’ in multilingual families perceive language learning and reading for young children, and how their practice of this can be understood in relation to their language situation and cultural background. This study focuses on the interaction between parents’ and young children in the light of the literacy practice. Important concepts such as early childhood literacy and family literacy have been used to study language, culture and literacy practice as phenomena that interact. The theoretical framework is a sociocultural perspective. Through qualitative interviews with seven parents’, it was found that multilingual families have a strong ambition for their children to learn all the languages spoken in the family. They also have a high ambition to read to their children. The ability to do so is not proportional the circumstances to give children a good start at an early age by consciously practicing language and reading to the child in the mother tongue. Lack of access to books in the mother tongue is one of the reasons. Some also prefer reading Swedish books in order to practice Swedish. Another reason is an ambivalent attitude to which order the languages in the family should be prioritized. Considering cultural aspects, the parents’ childhood memories of literacy practices from their background is linked to factors such as parents’ who are illiterate, lack of reading, but also rich oral storytelling traditions. / Program: Masterprogram: Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap, Digitala bibliotek och informationstjänster

Samarbete mellan bibliotek och skola : om skolbibliotekariens läsfrämjande arbete i skolan / Cooperation between library and school around the librarians reading promotion work in school

Rörborn, Britt-Inger January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how librarians andteachers work together and with the help of other researchtry to understand what influences this cooperation. The studyis based on the following questions:1. These two professional groups have differentprofessional identities and work in two differentprofessional cultures. How does this affect theircooperation?2. Which of the two professional groups decide whatreading promotion work is to be done?3. What do these two occupations think of their own andeach other’s skills and how does it affect the cooperationconcerning reading promotion? The chosen method is interviews with two librarians and twoteachers who are all involved in reading promotion. Twotheories were used as a theoretical framework: LenaFolkesson's three professional dimensions and LouiseLimberg and Lena Folkesson's three categories ofperceptions regarding cooperation. The results are largely in line with previous research and animportant conclusion is that the cooperation is improved iflibrarians and teachers work towards a common goalregarding reading promotion in schools. Such a goal shouldclarify the roles and responsibilities for each participant. This clarification is an important step towards a schoollibrary which is well integrated into the school, and it willgive librarians real legitimacy in order to take on an activerole in the cooperation. These factors reduce the tensions thatcan arise when two different professional cultures meet, andalso prevent a situation where the two professional groupsare trapped in traditional roles. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Old Habits in a New World? E-book management techniques at an academic library

Konrad, Katherine January 2013 (has links)
As interest in the e-book market grows, both academic libraries and researchers strive to understand developing trends amongst patrons. The academic library is one venue where improvised measures in e-book collection management can freely abound. Recent studies have focused on establishing formalized management techniques. This study explores the e-book collection management techniques in use lens of Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory. Analysis revealed that library staff employ e-book collection management techniques that are both similar and dissimilar to those used in print book management. This study investigates both similarities and differences using Bourdieu’s field and habitus to enable explanation of relevant management choices. Analysis showed that librarians in both similar and different subject libraries employ both unique and complementary techniques to e-book collection management. Further inquiry shows possible connections between a librarian’s habitus and their subsequent approach to e-book management. / Program: Masterprogram: Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap, Digitala bibliotek och informationstjänster

Marknadsföring av bibliotek via sociala medier : Hur ser bibliotekarier på det? / Marketing the library using social media : How do librarians view it?

Ahlander, Linn, Lindahl, Rasmus January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate how librarians view marketing of the library using social media and how this can be used in a marketing strategy. The theoretical framework for this thesis is based on the 7 Ps of the marketing mix, SWOT-analysis and SWOT/TOWS Matrix. The theory is based on planned elements that make up a product or service offered the market. We have used our own interpretation of the theories to analyse our material. Our main method has been a web-based questionnaire, the questionnaire was sent to 523 librarians active at ten large public libraries and its related branches. A total of 142 librarians answered the questionnaire, giving it a response-rate of 27.2 %.The results of our study show that librarians are generally positive towards marketing the library using social media. We have found that librarians characterise most activities, done by libraries in social media, as marketing. We have also found that librarians think that social media, as a marketing tool have the potential to reach their users, non-users and the public at large. The age-groups librarians think they first and foremost have the potential to reach using social media is those aged between 13-64 years. We have found that the librarians’ views of different social media, as tools for marketing the library, correlate with their knowledge of the platforms. The more knowledge the librarians have of a platform for social media, the higher it has been ranked. The librarians’ attitudes and attributes can be used in forming a marketing strategy. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Att väcka läslust hos barn i förskoleåldern- En kvalitativ studie om föräldrars syn på sin egen, förskolan och bibliotekets lässtimulerande roll / To Awaken Preschool Children's Ability to Yearn for and Enjoy Reading : A Qualitative Research of Parents' View of Their Own, the Preschool's, and the Library's Role to Inspire Reading

Andersson, Linda, Berntsson, Maria January 2014 (has links)
The aim of our study is to gain understanding of how parentsperceive their own, the preschool's, and the library's efforts to stimulate preschoolers' enjoyment and yearning to read, as well as what types of collaborative efforts the parents seek. The study is based upon qualitative interviews with parents, both mothers and fathers, to preschool children (aged 1.5 to 6 years old). The analysis does not offer any generalizations. We have chosen to use a sociocultural perspective as the theoretical starting-point of our study, our thoughts being that we learn together with and by the help of others. We consider this perspective to be closely related to Aidan Chambers's "The Reading Circle", which we have chosen to use as our tool of analysis. It turned out that the parents perceived their own reading stimulating role as crucial, even if they did not consider all they did as reading stimulative. Some things, such as discussing the book while reading, occurred naturally but is also an important part to stimulate reading. The parents also experienced the preschool's reading stimulating role as significant, but that the library was nonexistent in their part. The parents did not feel that there existed any collaboration between themselves, the preschool, and the library, but most of the parents assumed that a collaboration existed between the preschool and the library. We saw a need and a request from several parents to get more information regarding children and reading. / Program: Bibliotekarie

”Du måste låna en riktig bok!” : en forskningsöversikt om barns och vuxnas syn på faktaböcker för barn / ”You have to borrow a real book!” : a research review about children’s and adults’ views of children’s nonfiction

Fransson, Åsa January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this research review is to map research about how children relate to nonfiction, and how adults, represented by parents, librarians and teachers, relate to children’s nonfiction and its possible purposes, and also the similarities and differences between them, according to current research.A theory of three different ways to look at reading is applied to the material concerning adults’ views of children’s nonfiction. To show children’s views, themes are extracted from the research material, using an analysis model of four different ways to read.Studies show that most children as well as adults perceive children’s nonfiction in a traditional way as a means to gain knowledge and facts, and primarily related to school work.Nonfiction can also help children with reading difficulties to practise reading, by stimulating their interests. Many children read nonfiction because they prefer to read ”real stories” about actual people and events. Nonfiction can also help children find and strengthen their identity. Some children simply read nonfiction for fun and pleasure, in the same way others read fiction. Most librarians and teachers see nonfiction as a way for the children to gain knowledge, practise reading skills or source criticism. Some also see future benefits for the child as an individual or a member of the society. There are few research studies about children’s nonfiction, and parents’ views are also poorly represented in these studies. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Inte läsa bara för att politikerna säger det! : Barnbibliotekariers inställning till fritidsläsning och erfarenheter från Sommarboken. / Do not read simply because the politicians say so : Childrens librarians approach to leisure reading and experiences of a summer challenge project.

Lehnberg, Annelie January 2014 (has links)
This study conducts a qualitative examination based on five interviews with children’s librarians. The aim is to bring up and analyse the attitudes of the librarians towards reading promotion activities for children outside of school and investigate their experiences of participation in a summer reading challenge project. The first theory used to analyse is Jofrid Karner Smidt’s thesis of five different roles that a librarian can have on literary preferences. The second is her theory of how librarians view their promotion of literature. My interviews shows that the librarians in the study have a common opinion and enthusiasm regarding children's pleasure reading. They consider that their most important task is to show them the joy in reading. Promote reading work outside of school requires marketing in a different way than the same work at school. The libraries spend a lot of time and energy to present themselves in different ways. It is important to constantly seek new ways of working and try to reach out to the children.A concept like Sommarboken with a common purpose and materials and follow up meetings is well considered. The various libraries design themselves their summer meetings as they want. At the meetings, the children have the opportunity to the all-important conversation about their reading, both with each other and the librarian. The lustful and undemanding in the arrangement is something that all the interviewees represent in their profession. / Program: Bibliotekarie
