How incentive management can be used to manage and strengthen the professional and commercial perspective

Kull, Ida, Svensson, Alva January 2019 (has links)
Introduction: The auditing industry can be seen as part of a profession with the idea of contributing to societal interest by objectively and independently conveying financial information. A profession is dependent on competent and qualified employees in order to maintain good audit quality. In order to do their job, there is room for themselves to decide on the approach to the work. On the other hand, the interests of the audit firms can be seen as commercial, with the idea that all companies are profit-driven and govern to achieve business goals. These two perspectives can be seen as contrasts and in conflict with each other, but both must be taken into account and are important for the agency's survival. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of how audit firms use incentives to handle the problems of commercialism and professionalism. Method: A qualitative study has been conducted on three companies in the auditing profession. The empirical data has been collected through semi structured interviews. Conclusions: The study shows that the companies work as a hybrid and control both commercialism and professionalism depending on the given situation, through both financial and non-financial incentives. We can also see that the companies' strong socialization process contributes to a society to ensure that commercialism and subjective interests cannot take over.

"Vad ska litteraturpolitiken göra?" : En diskursanalys av debatten kring litteraturstödet 2009–2021 / "What should Literature Politics do?" : A Discourse Analysis of the Debate about the Support of  Literature 2009–2021

Jonsson, Annika, Sjövall, Ida January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse debates and discourses in Swedish media about the support of  literature from the Swedish cultural council from 2009 and up to and including 2021. The empirical material  consists of 22 articles derived from the daily press, and by using discourse analysis as theory and methodology,  several debates are problematized. Questions posed in this study are: What views of the support of literature are  expressed in the debates? What positions do the different voices occupy in the debate? What discourses emerge  and what characterises these? The theoretical and methodological framework is based on Hedemark’s use of  discourse theory. In the analysis three discourses appear: an arm's length discourse, a quality discourse and a  diversity and a commercial one-dimensionality discourse. The analysis revealed that cultural writers as well as  politicians often have a prominent position and a great influence over the content of the debates, and that they are  of the perception that the government ignores the principle of arm’s length distance to cultural creation. The  debaters are arguing over quality judgment, but also how much importance should be considered regarding the  content when deciding which titles to support. The professionals, e.g., librarians, however, did not participate in  the debates. We believe that this invisibility is a result of only some being admitted into the debate, but also in the  end, it is up to each library how the dissemination of literature-supported titles takes place.

The New Orleans Voodooscape. Ethnography of Contemporary Voodoo Traditions of New Orleans, Louisiana

Dorsman, Roos 23 September 2021 (has links) (PDF)
In New Orleans, Louisiana, voodoo is omnipresent. There is voodoo in a more religious sense, that is generally more secretive, and there is a highly visible side to voodoo, that is shown in the many references to voodoo in a commercial or political sense throughout the city.Based on ethnographic fieldwork, this dissertation demonstrates that the criteria that define the boundaries of what is voodoo are debated by the practitioners and the authenticity of certain events or practices is often internally contested. To include all these debates, the broader concept of ‘voodooscape’ is introduced in this dissertation. The concept of voodooscape is a useful tool for the analysis of voodoo in New Orleans, because it includes these debates and the large domain where negotiations on voodoo take place. This dissertation contains ethnographic descriptions of these negotiations, with a focus on the ways in which the ‘voodooscape’ embodies memories of the history of slavery and the ways of coping with these memories. The voodooscape both mobilizes these memories and how to cope with these memories at the same time. In a similar way, the voodooscape mobilizes the memories of more recent events, of which hurricane Katrina and the current violence that caused the rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement are the most important ones in New Orleans. The theoretical contribution of this work lies in the introduction of the concept of voodooscape, that allows a nuanced analysis and understanding of voodoo, through which several socially relevant dimensions are displayed and connected, namely: race, politics, music, art, heritage, tourism and commerce.

Kronlund, Alexander, Makolli, Ljeutrim January 2019 (has links)
This study aims to explore how individuals who are operating Swedish elite football clubs manage the tension between non-profit and commercial logics, and whether organizational form is important when managing them. The respondents in this study are individuals with positions at the very highest organizational level, and predetermined themes that concern the tension within Swedish elite football were used in the design of the interview guide. The results were then analysed from a new institutional perspective. The outcome showed that elite football clubs tend to use similar strategies when managing the logics regardless of organizational form.

A Pedagogy of Holistic Media Literacy: Reflections on Culture Jamming as Transformative Learning and Healing

Stasko, Carly 14 December 2009 (has links)
This qualitative study uses narrative inquiry (Connelly & Clandinin, 1988, 1990, 2001) and self-study to investigate ways to further understand and facilitate the integration of holistic philosophies of education with media literacy pedagogies. As founder and director of the Youth Media Literacy Project and a self-titled Imagitator (one who agitates imagination), I have spent over 10 years teaching media literacy in various high schools, universities, and community centres across North America. This study will focus on my own personal practical knowledge (Connelly & Clandinin, 1982) as a culture jammer, educator and cancer survivor to illustrate my original vision of a ‘holistic media literacy pedagogy’. This research reflects on the emergence and impact of holistic media literacy in my personal and professional life and also draws from relevant interdisciplinary literature to challenge and synthesize current insights and theories of media literacy, holistic education and culture jamming.
