Previous issue date: 2008 / Nowadays, science and communication discourses propagate ideal patterns for thinness, beauty, youngness and health, which are subtly imposed by “wellness industry”. It fosters the capitalist logic of body, that is seen as a “consumption object”, submitted to market exigencies. Medical and media discourses happen to be referential to contemporary subjects, the former based on bodies perfection and the latter based on consumption and embellishment. The current study received an interdisciplinary outlook, since it exchanges ideas with Social Psychology, Psychoanalysis, Anthropology, History and Sociology. The research approaches body within its inner complexity as a social, singular, psychological, organic and cultural entity. In such sense, an intervention in its organic dimension, as aesthetic surgery, does not happen detached from its other dimensions, since all of them are intimately engaged. This study aims at investigating social and subjective senses of metamorphosed bodies of women who were repeatedly submitted to aesthetic surgeries, considering consumption society’s current context. Body is being target of promises of full completeness and satisfaction, mostly egress from media and science. However, suffering cannot be fully expurgated, even though wellness and the idea of a perfect body are targets of current market. That is why this research analyses in addition experiences of psychological suffering related to recurrent aesthetical surgeries and their psychosocial implications. The study, which followed a qualitative approach, interviewed seven women, trough semi-structured interviews, and arranged reports, as well as researcher placed them into three analysis categories: the contraposition involving “out of oneself” and “inside of oneself”, the contradiction between suffering and happiness, and, besides, the body, legitimated by “beauty and health industries”. The research points that, within consumption context, body takes the place of object, but, hearing women, the researcher, as a psychologist, attempted to a “subject body”, as Psychoanalysis introduces, which comprises a history and a singularity. Such idea of “subject body” is strongly opposed to the conception of “object body”, which discourses aiming at massifying subjective experience adopt. Such discourses try to hide things that differentiate each individual, since singularity has been often menaced by massifying forces which aim to standardize, especially on capitalist interests. The study argues that it does not undervalue Medicine conquests, mainly in the concerning to techno-scientific advances related to aesthetic surgeries, but it highlights possible excesses, or even to carry out such procedures, without a subjective implication, a sense attribution and a critical reflection. So, this work aims at contributing to health and advertising areas in their interfaces with Social Psychology and Psychoanalysis, triggering studies and interdisciplinary interventions / Na contemporaneidade, padrões ideais de magreza, beleza, juventude e saúde são disseminados pelos discursos científico e midiático, sendo impostos sutilmente pela “indústria do bem-estar”.

Previous issue date: 2018-06-27 / Fundação São Paulo - FUNDASP / Two themes surround the purpose of this work: the freedom of artistic
expression (or artistic freedom) and the disposition of the human body. Both are very
problematic. What is proposed is the analysis of the dialogue between these two
questions: how should freedom of artistic expression be applied when applied at the
disposition of the human body? Does artistic freedom strengthen such provision by
broadening the range of possibilities for doing so? In this sense, the fundamental
problem to be discussed in this work is whether the infra-constitutional legal order,
especially the art. 13 of the Civil Code, is up to the constitutional text to regulate such
sensitive subject.
In order to do so, I seek to understand the outlines of artistic freedom in the
legal order, its application in the Federal Supreme Court, as well as the free
development of the individual and the creation of his identity, in the context of
corporal disposition.
In this sense, the theoretical study of liberties in general, freedom of
expression, freedom of artistic expression, the phenomenon of the
constitutionalization of private law, existential subjective situations, personality rights,
private autonomy and the fundamental rights.
Thereby, I seek to provide an adequate answer to the problem proposed in
this study and to verify the appropriateness or not of the infraconstitutional rule of
artistic freedom applied to the corporal disposition / Dois temas cercam o objetivo deste trabalho: a liberdade de expressão
artística quando aplicada à disposição do corpo humano? A liberdade artística
13 do Código Civil,

Previous issue date: 2007-10-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Considering the growing importance that the body is gaining in the contemporary world, our objective in this thesis is to question the relationship between body and power, subject that has thus far been scarcely explored from a political science point of view. For that, we will work predominantly with Michel Foucault s work, using systematic analysis of this outstanding author, pioneer in showing that the body is in the center of the relations of power. Despite bearing an important contribution to the subject, Foucault s work presents some problems, among which we point out embracing the concept of the body as excessively abstract. Echoing a difficult relationship that the human sciences have kept with the body in modern days, by either simply ignoring it or considering it only as a symbolic object, Foucault ultimately detaches the body from its biological traces; the body which, when assuming its materiality, does so under an exceedingly mechanicist perspective. We repute that this view of the body devitalizes the subject and weakens the very idea of resistance that the French philosopher sustains in his work, reason why we propose, through an interdisciplinary dialogue, the adoption of another view of the body. It is in the work of Wilhelm Reich, as well as in some contemporary biologists and neurobiologists, that we will find the elements to think of the body not as a mere compilation of inert, malleable parts, as proposed by biomedical knowledge, but as an especial materiality, alive and dynamic, which remits to a long evolutionary process, occupying a central spot in our so called superior life. Our hypothesis is that this living body, capable of contemplating both symbolic and social aspects, as well as biological and material aspects, can intensify Foucault s idea of resistance, making the work of composing the self more efficient in its task of elaborating internalized means, capable of eluding the modern mechanisms of power: the body as an important ally against the methods of domination / Tendo em vista a crescente importância que o corpo vem assumindo no mundo contemporâneo, nosso objetivo nesta tese é problematizar a relação entre corpo e poder, tema ainda pouco explorado do ponto de vista da ciência política.

Previous issue date: 2006-08-18 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The visibility that the media has been giving to the body brings a large dose of violence, which can be verified by the photos of mutilated bodies and victims of several kinds of abuses. These are images, official or subliminary, that populate our cultural imaginary. Those images refer to contexts that transform themselves in material to elaborate a critical discourse. This is the context in which are inscribed the works of the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues and of the French choreographer radicated in Berlin, Xavier le Roy. They transform the images seen on the media into artistic material in the form of tableaux vivants.
The research s problem was motivated by the follow question: in the globalized world, crossed by similar kind of image about the body, would it be possible to produce a specific reading in these shared contexts? As they work in distinct places and since both are interested, basically, in similar questions in this mediatized world; Lia Rodrigues and Xavier le Roy were set side by side with an intention to configure a field where it would be possible to investigate an answer to this question.
The challenge in this research path was to comprehend the relationship between the transformed questions in image by the media and their works. Once accomplished, the research arrived to the hypothesis that both construct a politic in the body . These are not discourses that the body speeches or interprets, but critical discourses about the own doing.
The methodology applied was a bibliographic review about body & politic with an embodied reading followed by a field research with the choreographers. There were ten months of experience in Germany, in the case of Xavier le Roy, and by a sequence of internships in Rio de Janeiro, in Lia Rodrigues case.
The objective of the thesis is to affirm that when the body approaches a certain kind of visibility, it becomes political. To achieve that, the research made use mainly of Jacques Rancière, Peter Pal Pelbart, Giorgio Agamben and Michel Foucault writings, as political philosophers, to read, on the bias of communication, the argumentations proposed by them / A visibilidade que a mídia tem dado ao corpo carrega uma grande dose de

Previous issue date: 2008-05-06 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Different ways of communication relate to different ways of social organization. The historical and evolutionary process of the cultural production developed a context where digital media promote important transformations and where relationships in new space-time structures bring changes to the environment. In this conjuncture of change emerge the artistic production that is named here as Poetics of Multitude. In this poetics, the media assume a central role in the net collaborative autonomies that characterize them. For understanding them, it is necessary to identify new forms of living together with the writings of Bauman (2000, 2003), Santos (2005) e Souza Santos (2005, 2006), and with them, to reflect about globalization. In the perspective presented in this thesis, the body is treated as a primary media in accordance to the Bodymedia Theory, developed by Katz (2005) and Greinner (2005). Understood as a response to capitalism, the poetics of multitude is understood as a symptom of the contemporary society. The theory of Negri and Hardt (2004), and Virno (2002) sustains the research. In multitude - this new form of existence that contrasts to the ideas of folk or mass the poetics is related to autonomies in forms of net collaboration. And is present also in the creation and distribution of new ways of thinking dance. An interaction of neighbors , without the traditional practices of leadership and hierarchy promotes a kind of authonomy theoretically supported by concepts of evolution, co-adaptation and co-dependence (Dawkins (1976, 1978, 1998, 1999) and Dennett (1995). Such social systems auto-organize themselves through indirect control resembling what happens in other live systems (Gordon (2002) and Johnson (2003). Actions of the body in the world produce poetic emergences. We propose that the new forms of social organization that are being put in the world produce new ways of addressing knowledge and a new position to the subject / Diferentes formas de comunicação se dão em novas formas de organização social.

Previous issue date: 2008-05-05 / In our days, In Brazil, all communication graduations tend to ignore the human
body in communication relationships. This sector was built with no consideration to the
human body importance in the communication relationship. Consequences of that
behaviour are very clear e can be perceived in every phase of the communication
relationship. The subject identification was the starting point for a research, which has
been detailed here in the format of a paper, which has identified the urgency in
modifying the actual education of futures communication professionals, creating new
communication practices. In order to respond to this question, this research has
focused in what occurs with the social communication within companies. Its object is
the human communication study within companies, investigating the human body
impact in the communicator education, as it understands the relationship between
communication theory taught in the universities and obstacles for the creation of new
and expected companies practices as the central point. Its objective is to discuss this
process and strategies applied by communication professionals from the market as
being a result of the bibliography which are adopted by communication graduations
and are part of these professionals education. While mapping the actual situation, it
has been surged the theory that it is possible to relate what is taught in the
universities in public relationship, publicity, merchandising and marketing graduations,
with the criticism absence of these professionals in the market. This was the starting
point for the proposal that another bibliography, more adequate to encourage students
to apply a critic reflection, could be included in actual universities, to help future
professionals to become able to deal with this growing society complexity / No Brasil, os cursos de comunicação social tendem a ignorar o papel do corpo
humano nas relações comunicacionais. O campo está formado sem considerar a
relevância do corpo humano nessas relações. As conseqüências dessa postura
do processo comunicacional.
Fez do estudo
empresariais. O objetivo dessa pesquisa é discutir o processo e as estratégias
profissionais atuantes no mercado.

an art rich in technology: the Artmedia (MACHADO, 2002). An undisciplined and
theoretical-practical methodology was used. M. McLuhan (1969, 1972), S. Pinker (1998, 2002),
Y. R. G. Araújo (2005) e de P. M. Aguiar (2006) made it possible to conceive the technology as
an organic/environmental process and overcome the dualism rich-poor inherent in Grotowski.
The concept syntheticbody , created from the concept corpomídia (KATZ & GREINER,
2005), represents the refusal in altering itself. T. Richards (2001), R. Cohen (2004, 2003), M.
Bonfitto (2002), R. Ferracini (2003), E. Barba (2006), R. Demarcy (in GUINSBURG, 2003)
and others allowed a new interpretation of important theater authors like Aristóteles (1966), C.
Stanislávski (1979) e J. Grotowski (op. cit.). A. Damásio (2000, 2004), S. Pinker (1998), D. C.
Dennett (1997, 2006), Lakoff & Johnson (2002), R. Dawkins (2001a, 2001b), and others
allowed the conception of consciousness in a healthy state, here, a parameter to identify and
create altered states, which can be systemically understood from J. Vieira (2006, 2007).
Consequently the actor s training system was called Alteration Procedures , and Jerry
Grotowski s interpretation of the trance technique for the body could be reviewed and enlarged
in high levels of technology in communication processes / É cada vez mais comum a utilização de tecnologias nos processos comunicacionais em
arte.
O objetivo é a
A hipótese é a
1972), S. Pinker (1998, 2002), Y. R. G. Araújo (2005) e P. M. Aguiar (2006) possibilitaram
conceber a tecnologia como processo organismo/meio, e superar a dualidade rico-pobre
inerente em Grotowski. O conceito corposintético , criado a partir do conceito corpomídia
(KATZ & GREINER, 2005), representa a recusa em alterar-se. T. Richards (2001), R. Cohen
(2004, 2003), M. Bonfitto (2002), R. Ferracini (2003), E. Barba (2006), R. Demarcy (in
A. Damásio (2000,
2004), S. Pinker (1998), D. C. Dennett (1997, 2006), Lakoff & Johnson (2002), R. Dawkins

Previous issue date: 2008-10-07 / The present research had for objective to carry through the discursive analysis of the news
articles of cover of the magazines Veja, Época and IstoÉ on the subjects health and wellbeing .
The choice for these subjects was made from the comment of that the after-modern
society of consumption involves its values, desires, habits, likes and necessities in a scale
extremely intensified. Today, one perceives that the images that transfer health and beauty, by
body and mind, take space each bigger time in this society that starts to absorb such values as
standards of social ascension and personal satisfaction. Moreover, the body is changeable
since the birth until the aging and the consumption society does not support the marks and
signals of the time in the body. The aesthetic search for perfect, the medicine longevity and
sprouting new and cures for illnesses are subjects, each time more recurrent in the weekly
media, characterizing, thus, an interesting object of study. The subjects had been categorized
in sub-groups, in accordance with the focus of each news article, such as aesthetic beauty and,
alternative medicine, remedies, treatments and prevention of illnesses, feeding, chemical
dependence, behavior and science. The analyzed period sweeps all the existence of the
magazines, since end of years 1960, up to 2006. As method, we will adopt the discursive
analysis, with you arrive in port of the semiotics to examine the news articles, collating the
respective speakers of the magazines and identifying, also, the narrative citizens and its
values, beyond the thematic and figurative construction, composing specific communicative
contracts between magazine and reader. Other aspects to study are made positive or negative
by each periodic one the mediating function and, the values relevance thematic in the aftermodern
valores, desejos, hábitos, gostos e necessidades numa escala extremamente intensificada.
