ABSTRACT: Background: Women’s mental illness can have a negative impact on the woman’s relationship with both children and partners, which means that the woman is the focus when it comes to maternity care. The mental health and well-being of the woman’s partner is also affected by the woman’s mental well-being. There is not much research on how midwives can work in a professional manner to prevent negative experiences in the woman’s partner. It is the midwifes responsibility to identify which risk and health related factors can affect men’s mental health in order to timely initiate the right efforts, which in turn makes it easy to bond in the new family. Aim: To illuminate male partners mental health during complicated pregnancy and childbirth and how they experience the professional support from midwives. Method: A literature study with a qualitative design was used. Thirteen scientific articles with a descriptive method were retrieved from the databases CINAHL, PsycInfo and PubMed. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the results of the articles after quality review. Results: As a result of the study two themes and eight subthemes emerged. The first theme was: Witnessing trauma, this theme has five subthemes. The second theme was: Lack of support from midwives and healthcare staff and has three subthemes. Conclusion: The study’s results showed that witnessing trauma has a negative impact on men’s well-being, mental health, relationships with both children and partners as well as future pregnancy short-and long-term. Good communication between midwives and male partners can improve their relationship, limit development and effects of psychological trauma, and reduce feelings of isolation.

Studies show that the majority of older people are sexually active when in a long-term relationship, and that the romantic relationship of older couples can be influenced by sexual problems. The literature also shows that conjugality in a couple is extremely complex when one of the partners has a dementia and is living in a long-term care facility. While we know more about professionals' attitudes towards sexuality in the context of dementia, we still know little about how partners of people with dementia perceive the evolution of the sexual and intimate relationship over time, including during the transition to a long-term care facility. This research focuses on the experience of partners of people with dementia living in long-term care facilities, drawing on Honneth's (2000) recognition theory. The methodology was based on a qualitative, exploratory approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 6 participants to gather the partners' testimonies. The results show the influence of ageism and social representations on the partners' discourse. They also show the influence of illness and of long-term care facilities on the partners' experiences. This research sheds light on the partners' reality, with an aim to improving practices.

Recognition of domestic partnerships in South African lawManthwa, Tshepo Aubrey 09 1900 (has links)
With the advent of a new constitutional dispensation in South Africa, intimate relationships that were not formally recognised, such as customary marriages, became fully recognised through designated legislation. Domestic partnerships are, however, afforded only limited recognition despite compelling reasons that lead people to domestic partnerships. Domestic partners are also discriminated against based on marital status despite a Constitution that forbids discrimination based on equality, human dignity and marital status. The object of this study is to investigate whether there are sufficient grounds to afford domestic partnerships full recognition similar to that granted to civil marriage. This study includes arguments in favour and against the recognition of domestic partnerships and a discussion of the reasons that lead people into domestic partnerships. There will also be an analysis of the draft Domestic Partnership Bill 36 of 2008 to determine the suitability of the draft Bill to regulate domestic partnerships. This investigation is conducted with reference to relevant draft Bills, legislation, and case law. / Private Law / LLM

Assessment of aid effectiveness in Ethiopia : a case study on the General Education Quality Improvement Programme and the collaboration among DFID, UNICEF and the World BankSolome Zemene Kassa 11 1900 (has links)
This research focuses on assessing the extent to which the Principles of Aid Effectiveness were followed and translated into action by taking the General Education Quality Improvement Programme (GEQIP) in Ethiopia as an example. Outcomes of the secondary reviews conducted on the selected government institutions and development partners documents demonstrate that these Principles are taken as overarching strategies to guide the undertakings on GEQIP.
The study attests that a number of factors influence the realization of aid effectiveness in Ethiopia. These include, at the recipient level, existence of strong national development plans while demanding improvement on absorptive capacity. At the level of development partners, compliance with pledges made on the provision of resources and better coordination is needed. A common country framework to guide the aid effectiveness process including mutual accountably is important. The study most importantly identifies that beyond sector specific reviews, emphasis should also be given to assess the contribution of the Principles of Aid Effectiveness for efficient delivery of support to the GEQIP. / Development Studies / M.A. (Development Studies)

Every public sector strike brings up the question of a need for a skeleton service. In this area
French law is extremely fragmentary and vague. In spite of numerous attempts to introduce legislation
no law has been voted. The main reason has been the considerable technical difficulty in reconciling
the two basic constitutional principles ofthe right to strike and the continuity of public services.
This study brings into focus the problems and questions arising from the idea of a skeleton
service and attempts to identify the most practical solution in the context of French law. To give
clearer defmition to the study, the Quebec legislation in this field was used as a model. It has been in
force for twenty years and this offers many practical lessons.
Setting up a skeleton service in the public sector has to be based on an accurate definition of
the notion itself as well as its concrete application. Its underlying principles and field of application
have to be defined. Qualitative and quantitative aspects, bargain procedures and partners, necessary
resources, all have to be identified.

The legalization of intimacy in MexicoGonzález, Manuel Alberto Castillo 24 November 2015 (has links)
THE LEGALIZATION OF INTIMACY IN MEXICO by Manuel Castillo This dissertation has been submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor iuris (Dr. iur.) at the Faculty of Law, of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Germany. The main scope of the research is the legalization of intimacy, using Mexican law as a case study. Considering that the right to intimacy arises from the right to privacy, this research discusses the fundamental human rights that constitute a framework for the legalization of intimacy. The research provides an approach to the analysis of this subject that includes what has been introduced as the Spheres of Intimacy and the Structures of Intimacy. The issue of gender is discussed in its relationship with the law and intimacy. From a queer perspective, this dissertation questions the equality of marriage and same-sex marriage, arguing that a new form of legalization of intimacy for all is needed. Furthermore, this study provides a comparative review of Mexican legislations within the framework of international law. At the end, this dissertation offers a proposal for the legalization of intimacy in the twenty-first century.

Applying the business model canvas to develop business models for SMEs in Namibia : a case of the Khomas RegionCharamba, Millicent Patience 12 1900 (has links)
There have been tremendous economic developments in all parts of the world including developing nations. One of the major drivers of these developments has been from the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). These businesses have enabled many nations to create employment, resulting in an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In as much as SMEs have well documented benefits, they also require many support, capital and business skills. This has led to the establishment of SME incubation centres where start-ups are hosted and trained to have the business skills. However, despite the incubation initiatives, SMEs still fail to grow and always have challenges. At times, the challenges are not finance related but lack of proper business strategies. This could be addressed by considering business models. This dissertation considers the initiatives that have been taking place on SMEs. A case study of SMEs in Namibia within the Khomas region is used. A mixed research approach was adopted. Specific research methods used were interviews and observations with questionnaires being used as the instruments to gather the required information. SMEs from the Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre in Windhoek were selected for the research population. One of the popular Business Model Canvas tools was used as a sample of a guide in data collection, where SMEs engaged were to indicate how they apply certain categories of the canvas.
Results show that SMEs engaged do not have specific business models they are applying. However, there were many elements and understanding of the categories from the business model canvas. At the same time, SMEs mentioned incorporating technologies in their businesses and using ICTs to reach customers and make an effort to cut on the cost of bringing in stock. It was also clear that SMEs work independently and have long working hours when they are to meet specific orders. It was concluded that SMEs’ needs are different and that it may be difficult to use one business model. However, a mixture of a few business models could be combined to cater for the changing environment and address business needs. The Business Model Canvas could be applied for the Namibian SMEs but there is need to consider some other business models such as cutting out the middleman, business partnership models and bricks and clicks models. / Business Management / M.
