(1945-2013) / Review the history of the development on Taiwan's picture books(1945-2013)

Yu-Chin Chen January 1900 (has links)
After World War II, the development of picture books was slower in the genre of children's literature in Taiwan. Before the advent of the twenty-first century, however, they became a popular genre in short period of time. This study is to analyze the existing history of development on Taiwan’s picture books through historical research, literature review, in-depth interviews, and text analysis with the collection of related materials about Taiwan children’s literature. The historical phases are based on the impact of key development from Taiwan’s economic, political and educational policies after WWII as well as the definition of picture books and the transformation of implied reader in Taiwan picture books. The history of development on Taiwan picture books from 1945 to 2013 can be divided into four phases. The first is after WWII to before the economy takeoff (1945-1963). The second is the economy takeoff to before declaring martial law ended (1964-1986). The third is after declaring martial law ended to the rotation of political parties (1964-1999). The forth is the rotation of political parties (2000-2013). This study will discuss the four phases through "background", "events", "characters", "discourses and translation" respectively. Some researches found that the development of Taiwan’s picture books is from Taiwan’s history. In addition to the existing concept of children's literature from Europe and the United States through Japanese system, the development of Taiwan’s picture books is greatly impacted by English written children's books which became abundant sources for translation and concept introduction because of the close relationship with the United States after World War II, With the development of economic conditions, by learning the forms and creation from the Western genre with the characteristic of instant communication through pictures in picture books, domestic picture books creating is the most readily available genre in Taiwan’s children literature to obtain the sales of copyright. It is also helps Taiwan’s literature to be unprecedentedly brought in line with foreign countries. Although the future can be foreseen by reviewing the past, more researches are still needed to provide the reference to the industry and creators.

Rocka sockorna 365 dagar om året : En kvalitativ litteraturanalys om hur barn med funktionsnedsättning framställs i fyra olika bilderböcker riktade till barn i förskoleåldern / Lots of socks 365 days a year : A qualitative literature analysis on how children with disabilities are portrayed in four different picture-books aimed at children in pree-school age

Husberg, Susanne January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative literature analysis was to examine how neuropsychiatric and intellectual disability is portrayed in four different picture-books aimed at children in pre-school age. The results of the analysis show that three of the picture-books portrays both positive and negative aspects of the disability, with a certain focus on the positive ones. In these three picture-books, the disability is also the primary in the story. One of the four picture-books only show the positive sides of the disability. However, in this picture-book the disability is not the primary in the story. The analysis also show that the disability is mostly noticeable in the text of the picture-books, and that the picture-books are different regarding their aesthetic design.

La littérature illustrée pour enfants à l’époque de la Première Guerre mondiale : origines et évolution de la culture de guerre enfantine allemande / Illustrated children’s literature before and during World War I : origin and evolution of German children’s “war culture” / Illustrierte Kinderliteratur in der Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges : Ursprung und Entwicklung der deutschen "Kriegskultur" für Kinder

Zunino-Lecoq, Bérénice 12 December 2014 (has links)
In a cultural history perspective based on the methods of the “visual turn” this thesis deals with the illustrated children’s literature before and during the First World War and shows that the German children’s “war culture” did not appear ex nihilo in 1914. It had its origins in the memorial culture of pre-war time, which glorified the warfare. It relied on a heroic fantasy that came from historical paintings and used emotional reflexes. 1914 provoked an intensification and development of the “war culture”. While publishers put patriotic books on the market when the war of attrition took place, these books continued to convey familiar and reassuring images of a war of movement. As hostilities lasted, kitsch drawings with children’s characters and caricatures of the enemy used to justify the conflict, stylized in a defensive war. These fun strata of the children’s “war culture”, which came from the political iconography for adults, created an expansion of readership: children from the age of three up were concerned as well as school children. However, apologetic self-images were more important than the hatred and jeer of the enemy. Together with caricatures, they reinforced the national community and dealt with the bonds between the soldiers and the home front, which became a growing concern for permanently separated families. Because of deprivations, the books became sanctimonious and aimed at mobilizing children in the home front. In this context, albums were sold to raise funds for patriotic associations. According to the number of books printed, this patriotic literature, probably targeting children from both the middle and upper classes, were a success.

Vad gör en bilderbok lättläst? : En studie av adaptationen av Astrid Lindgrens Emil i Lönneberga / What is it that makes a book more easy to read? : – A study of the adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s Emil i Lönneberga & Emil efter Emil i Lönneberga.

Olofsson, Linda January 2015 (has links)
Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate how a picture book for children is transformed into an easy-to-read version for children who have just started reading. I examine two versions of Emil of Lönneberga. One of the books is the orginal picture book of Emil in Lönneberga and was written by Astrid Lindgren (1963), while the other is an easy-toreadversion of the book, as adapted by the author Helena Renvall (1977). I have conducted a comparative study as a text and picture analysis of the material, with the focus on the adaptation of the original story. The adaptation in this case is a revision intended to make the story easier to read and more accessible to today’s children. The most important finding of the study is that easily read information is not just a matter of simplifying the text; the form of both text and pictures is adapted. The text is characterized by simpler words and shorter sentences. The pictorial material has been increased and the originally black and white pictures have been given added red colour. Otherwise, most of the layout has been changed for several reasons, but generally speaking so that the relation between text and pictures on each spread will function inthe most easy-to-read way possible.

Donaldson på Hellsingska: en komparativ fallstudie : Julia Donaldsons engelska bilderböcker i svensk översättning av Lennart Hellsing / Julia Donaldson as Translated by Lennart Hellsing : a Comparative Case Study of English Picture Books in Swedish

Borking, Ulrika January 2015 (has links)
This master’s thesis looks at the translation of Julia Donaldson’s English picture books into Swedish by the Swedish children’s author Lennart Hellsing. The main aim of the study is to determine whether the translation of the original (source) texts involves the transference of Hellsing’s writing style into the translated (target) texts. Earlier research, carried out by Kåreland (2002), is employed in order to pinpoint Hellsing’s distinctive style as a writer. The style variables apparent in Hellsing’s own writing were thereby identified and these are applied to the analysed target texts in this case study. The theoretical framework is based on descriptive translation studies (DTS) and the use of Toury’s model (1995) for reconstructing translational norms allows the source texts (ST) and target texts (TT) to be put into a sociocultural context. By working within this framework a descriptive analysis is used to describe and compare the ST and TT and the concept of translation as a practice governed by certain translational norms at a certain moment in time and within a certain culture is applied. The findings show that Hellsing’s style as a writer can also be detected in his translations of Donaldson’s picture books. The results of this case study also indicate that the translation of these texts can be considered to be a target culture oriented practice.

Gabriel, Signe January 2018 (has links)
This essay is based on an investigation of illustrator Svein Nyhus’ use of visual metaphors in the children’s picture book Mammas Hår, written by Gro Dahle in 2007, in communicating the theme of depression to children. The purpose is to find out in which ways visual metaphor can be used as a communication tool for visual communicators in general. The essay starts with an introduction to visual rhetoric, metaphor as well as developmental and cognition theories. From this theoretical basis, a thesis on the use of metaphor in the communication of complex concepts is presented. Through a content analysis and a semiotic analysis of the illustrations in Mammas Hår, and a subsequent comparison of the analysis results with the thesis, it is found that visual metaphor can work both individually as well as through reciprocal interaction, and that visual metaphor can be used both to introduce new, unknown concepts as well as to highlight certain aspects of a concept. Finally, a discussion about the responsibility of the visual communicator and the relationship between theory and practice is introduced.
