Det livslånga lärandet som tayloristisk tragedi : En ideologikritisk analys / Lifelong learning as tayloristic tragedy : A critique of ideology

Säll, Lena January 2006 (has links)
The aim of this essay is trying to understand the ideological changing process over the last decades and the ideological meaning of the relatively new conception lifelong learning as well, and how it comes that the opportunities offered the individual pre-school child and the individual compulsory-school pupil to assimilate the so important learning, differs so dramatically all though the expressed ambition to offer each and every one equal opportunities. What are the ideological structures that are, and have been in function, that carries and have carried the perceptions of the use and value of fostering and education? In a time with the welfare ideology in a hegemonic position, it was seen important that the state took major responsibility for the education of the citizens. In our time, it appears, an economist ideology has taken the hegemonic position, and education is becoming an increasingly economic issue, and equality is decreasing along with, as in general society, the increasing of segregation within the educational system.

Andersson, Ann-Mari January 2007 (has links)
Abstract The purpose for this essay has been to illuminate some teachers opinions of integration of students with Aspergers syndrom in the compulsory school, then compare it with the statue documents and see similarities and differences. The studie has been of a quality character, based on quality intervjues to get the teachers understanding at a deeper level. The questions in the intervju are based on open questions with purpose not to control the person during the intervju. The most obvious result which was that it appered two perspective of integration of students with Aspergers syndrom. One in the short run and one in the long run. In the long run it was the integration of the individual into the society and in the short run integration in school. For the perspective in the long run, the opinions from the teachers in compulsory school is good corresponding to the statue documents, that the integration is necessary for our democratic and human values that our sociaty are based on. In the short run, during the years when the students are in school, it came out great difficulties to integrate children with Aspergers syndrom. To proceed an integration that works out for the students, the teachers took site from the individual and not from the society. If we do not look at integration from an individual base we are probably not going to succeed to integrate in society. Searchwords: Aspergers syndrom, neuropsychiatric funktional disorders, integration, inclusion, segregation.

Many shadows. : A study of the newspaper Sydsvenskan's writing about Malmoe

Widehed, Maria January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this essay has been to study if all the districts in the city of Malmoe get to be seen in the city’s biggest newspaper, Sydsvenskan. Is the reporting proportional? What images is the newspaper offering the citizens? Do they match the reality? Or are some parts of Malmoe in the dark, in a media shadow? Research done in the past has shown that Stockholm in many ways is in a media shadow. The same pattern was shown in Gothenburg. It has also been argued that the district Rosengård in Malmoe has suffered the same treatment. This essay studies if this also applies to the whole city of Malmoe. With a quantitatively and a qualitatively perspective, four weeks of articles have been analyzed. This essay holds the answers to what subjects and which people are represented in the paper. It studies if the reporting is proportional and explains what images are offered from the different parts of Malmoe. The conclusions show that several parts of Malmoe are in a media shadow, exposed to unilateral and in some cases non-existing reporting, leaving the citizens with an untrue image of their city.

Ågren, Axel January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyze how the term socially sustainable development is conceptualized within a local city planning context. In the southern parts of Norrköping employees within the municipality’s city planning office are working on the creation of a new neighborhood, given the name Kneippen syd. The aim is to create a socially sustainable neighborhood. The empirical data for this study is collected through six qualitative interviews, observations at the planned location for Kneippen syd and after attendance at four seminars with urban development as the main themes. The results of this study show that the reoccurring themes of socially sustainable development are consisting of visions of an urban mixture and improved connections within the city. The motives behind the themes have its foundation in the understanding of the city as segregated. Modernistic city planning consisting of spatially separated neighborhoods are understood as part of the cause to why segregation within the city is existing. In the plans of Kneippen syd the opposite characteristics of modernistic urban planning are found as the solution to the problems with the segregated city, were mixture in housing, services and recreation opportunities are emphasized. To a large extent the creation of this new urban area are based on definitions and constructed images of how the city should. This raises the need to reflect upon the question why certain definitions and images are chosen instead of others and what images of the city that are neglected in this process.

jansson, anna January 2008 (has links)
The emerging Swedish suburbs of the 1960- 1970s started out as a utopian vision: a new city for the modern people. Media presented a different view and emphasized the inhuman livingenvironment and the social problems of the suburbs. Nationwide there have been local attempts to avoid this negative publicity by adjusting identified suburban problems. Due to medial presentation the suburbs are still associated with segregation, criminality and social problems. The presentation of suburbs and immigrants affects not only the process of integration and the general public idea of integration processes, but also the individual perception of themselves and their living. Media have opened on to a collective discrimination of the neighborhood and its inhabitants. This essay aim to contribute to the understanding of how identities arise and are maintained when people are associated with certain geographical spaces, that is suburbs. The majority of the Swedish study of suburban discrimination and segregation takes place in the periphery off ocused on Andersberg, a suburb in a smaller city called Halmstad. It is a typical high-rise, concrete suburb with a high density of immigrants and unemployment. This essay has studied the power structures in the language regarding Andersberg, to discover the discriminating construction of suburban otherness. A postcolonial perspective illustrates how the perception of the suburb and its inhabitants is constructed as in the Swedish society. Discrimination and segregation is a result of the general public perception of the suburban inhabitants as criminal, uncivilized and patriarchal. the big cities. This essay hasothers, and consequently perceived as aliens

Spatial attainment trends of racial and ethnic groups in Houston, Texas, 1970 to 2000

Waren, Warren 15 May 2009 (has links)
Previous research in the spatial assimilation of racial and ethnic groups has not assessed trends over time due to methodological difficulties and data limitations. I use an innovative method to assess the intercensal changes in neighborhood spatial attainment for African Americans, Hispanics, and non-Hispanic whites in Houston, Texas, between 1970 and 2000. I extend the current literature by showing that an accepted and commonly used method for assessing longitudinal change in spatial attainment is flawed and yields incorrect results. I highlight an alternative approach which makes use of data readily available in Census Summary Files to estimate individual-level spatial attainment regressions. I also show that the choice of neighborhood size affects estimates of spatial attainment effects. Although the influence of spatial scale has been demonstrated in the segregation literature, its consequences for spatial attainment research have not. I investigate and report findings from four geographic scales useful to and commonly used by spatial attainment researchers: the block group, the Census tract, the Zip Code Tabulated Area, and the Public Use Micro Data Area. I compare the benefits and drawbacks of estimating spatial attainment at each level of geography.

Thermal transport through SiGe superlattices / Wärmetransport durch SiGe Übergitter

Chen, Peixuan 27 February 2015 (has links) (PDF)
Understanding thermal transport in nanoscale is important for developing nanostructured thermolelectric materials and for heat management in nanoelectronic devices. This dissertation is devoted to understand thermal transport through SiGe based superlattices. First, we systematically studied the cross-plane thermal conductivity of SiGe superlattices by varying the thickness of Si(Ge) spacers thickness. The observed additive character of thermal resistance of the SiGe nanodot/planar layers allows us to engineer the thermal conductivity by varying the interface distance down to ~1.5 nm. Si-Ge intermixing driven by Ge surface segregation is crucial for achieving highly diffusive phonon scattering at the interfaces. By comparing the thermal conductivity of nanodot Ge/Si superlattices with variable nanodot density and superlattices with only wetting layers, we find that the effect of nanodots is comparable with that produced by planar wetting layers. This is attributed to the shallow morphology and further flattening of SiGe nanodots during overgrowth with Si. Finally, the experiments show that the interface effect on phonon transport can be weakened and even eliminated by reducing the interface distance or by enhancing Si-Ge intermixing around the interfaces by post-growth annealing. The results presented in this dissertation are expected to be relevant to applications requiring optimization of thermal transport for heat management and for the development of thermoelectric materials and devices based on superlattice structures.

Blandstad : En kvalitativ studie om stadens utformning och dess påverkan på folkhälsa / Mixed-Use City : A qualitative study of city design and its impact onpublic health

Lethagen, Anna, Wasmouth, Karin January 2011 (has links)
Health and urban planning are naturally linked together. Through time strategies have differed to promote health and well being of citizens. The built environment is through availability, safety and attractiveness, along with access to work and supportive social networks required as prior conditions to promote health. The concept of mixed-use can be seen as an ideal in urban planning of today. The study intends to shed light on today's urban ideals and urban development in relation to public health. For collection and process of data the qualitative method of Grounded theory is used as inspiration. The study is based on interviews of officials and politicians in the city of Gothenburg. The data is founded on their knowledge and experiences of mixed-use in relation to urban development in Gothenburg. In addition, the data of the study relates to a public health perspective, based on four of the public health objectives of the Swedish National Institute of Public Health a long with science and theories of public health. The result of the study indicate that the informants picture of the concept of mixed-use differ from vision and reality. From the result of the study it emerges that mixed-use that can preserve the social dimension have good possibilities to promote public health.

Parallella världar : Pedagog i en segregerad förort

Madsén, Annie January 2012 (has links)
In my essay, I write about the work at a pre-school in a segregated suburb. I begin my essay with examples from my workday. In one case, it is about Sara, playing games where other children are excluded and she also exhibits a power game towards me. In the second example, it is about how a group of children conspire and expose both themselves and others for destructive conspiracy patterns. When I write down what happens in the group of children at my pre-school, I see patterns reminiscent of destructive gangs. I reflect about whether I am witnessing that my preschooler is in the preliminary stage of youth gangs with destructive patterns. The purpose of my essay is that for my own sake, and from a social perspective to provides deeper understanding of the causes that can generate power game and conspiracy patterns in children in segregated neighborhoods. I also describe how it can be to work in a kindergarten in a segregated suburb. M y questions are what happen to children when norms in the home are in conflict with the norms of the preschool. The norms in the homes may also be an illegal act in Sweden, when punishment and spanking occurs. Children may be in a conflict of loyalties when they know that parents may not spank their children in Sweden, but still do it. I examine whether there may be negative factors in the family's integration that allows contexts do not meet in a positive direction, and therefore can cause cultural clashes. I start from my own experiences as child-minder in the suburbs during twenty five years. I do this by writing the essay, I reflect on my own thoughts, but also through reflective conversations with others. To obtain scientific perspective on my research, I have chosen as the starting point to the support of other studies in ethnological and sociological aspects. I have come to the conclusion that there may be several reasons for pre-school children of my workplace to act as they do. One reason that I think is important is that families in my pre-school are segregated in the segregation, their meetings consisting mostly of their own countrymen and relatives. The majority of parents have no work and their contact with the Swedish society is done by the authorities and at the pre-school. I have met families where parents have lived in Sweden for twenty years, but still have limited language in Swedish. I have also seen that there is an aversion to the "Swedish" and that there is a conscious choice to refrain from it.
