Socioecologia de Sapajus xanthosternos na Reserva Biológica de Una, sul da Bahia / Socioecology of Sapajus xanthosternos at Una Biological Reserve, south of BahiaGouveia, Priscila Suscke 10 April 2014 (has links)
The predation risk has been said as the main selective force to favoring the sociability in many animals. However, as a determinant in variation of primates social systems, this fact has been considered less important than competition for food. The objectives of this study were (1) investigating how much the availability of food and the predation risk affect the habitat use by the group followed, in order to evaluate if the predation risk is a relevant issue in this population, (2) characterizing the social system and (3) investigating if the predation risk and/or availability of food affect the social system of Sapajus xanthosternos, a critically endangered species, owing to its hunting and habitat destruction, such fact makes it relevant for the hypothesis test. This study was made at the Una Biological Reserve, where the vegetation is classified as tabuleiro forest. The population in focus suffers from hunting stress. A group was followed during 16 months, a total of 2126 hours. The predation risk was evaluated concerning their vigilance behaviour, alarm vocalization, encounters with predators and hunting indication. We evaluated the size and the quality of the clumped food sources through the focal tree food method. Agonistic and affiliative interactions were recorded through all occurrences method. Home range and the daily traveling distances were calculated to evaluate if females experienced scramble competition within and between groups. The results were compared to the ones that had been obtained from a previous study with the population of the species S. nigritus and S. libidinosus. The use of habitat by the group was not only influenced by the distribution and availability food resources but also by the predation risk. The capuchin monkeys in Rebio Una live in large and cohesive groups, show female philopatry, and fission of very large groups. The large size of the groups favours the hypothesis that the minimum size of a group is determined by the predation risk. The group has shown a high number of males (expected due to the high number of females), a fact that is also considered by some studies as evidence of high predation risk. Female reproductive strategies were related to social organization and, therefore, to predation risk. S. xanthosternos consumes clumped and dispersed resources and spent more time foraging for invertebrates. There was a partial dominance hierarchy among females and the high-ranking females ate with the low-ranking females in clumped food sources. Such fact emphasizes that females hold tolerant relations. The majority of used clumped food sources had an intermediate size, concerning the size of the group, and was productive. The contest competition within group for food involving females was not low. Scramble competition within group was high, as shown by the high moving rates and the long daily travel distance. Contest competition between groups was low and the perceived predation risk was high in comparison to other studies. The social system pattern - large group size, high sex ratio, and females that show a high level of affiliation and tolerance - is not in accordance with the expected by models that only consider the result of competition for food. It suggests that the risk of predation affects the elements of social system in this group. As a conclusion, the social system of S. xanthosternos is affected by the risk of predation and food availability

Bränn mitt bref! : En poststrukturalistiskt inspirerad studie av författaren Marianne Lundegård-Hagbergs utträdande ur historienLundegård, Karin January 2011 (has links)
Abstract This thesis discusses and analyses a 19th century female author's vanishing from history. The study investigates social relationships as figured and described in the epistolary form, based on letters between the author herself and different members of her family. It also tries to identify the author's position and situation in her time and society according to important themes and motifs in her novels. The main purpose is not to reconstruct history, but rather to show the many complex histories that can also be described, apart from the simplified and generalized one. The aim of this study is to, from a post-structuralist perspective, analyze the position of author Marianne Lundegård-Hagberg, and her role as a performative, discursive person that history forgot.

Depression is an important public health problem among the elderly population due to its high prevalence and its association with disability, mortality and use of health services. Most studies have shown that lack of social networks is associated with depression but results are not clear. In Quebec and in Canada, little evidence exists on the prevalence of depression in the elderly population and on its associations with social relationships. Few studies have examined the associations between social relationships and health services utilisation among the depressed elderly patients.
The aim of this work was to examine the role of social relationships on the presence of depression and on the consultation with a health professional by the elderly patient with depression, in Québec. More specifically, this work aimed at examining if: 1) the associations between social relationships and depression varied in rural and urban areas; 2) the associations between social relationships and depression were different in men and in women and 3) assessing the role of social relationships in the consultation of a health professional by the elderly patients with depression.
To attain these objectives we have written three articles using data from the ESA survey, conducted in 2005-2006 on a representative sample of 2670 community dwelling people over 65 in Quebec. Depressive disorders (including major and minor depression) were measured by the DSM-IV criteria using the ESA questionnaire developed by the research team which excludes the criteria on limitations of social functioning. Social relationships were measured by aspects of social networks (marital status and diversity of ties), engagement in community social activities (religious attendance, frequenting social centers, and volunteerism), social support and perception of usefulness and presence of conflict in the relationships with spouse, children, siblings and friends. Multiple logistic regressions were adjusted to estimate odds ratios and their 95 % confidence intervals.
Prevalence of depression was higher among those living in urban and rural areas of Quebec compared with metropolitan Montreal. Volunteerism, social support and not having conflict with the spouse were associated with lower frequency of depression independently of the area of residence. Women had higher prevalence of depression compared with men. Lack of a confident was associated with higher frequency of depression both in men and in women. Men who were widows and those who were not involved in volunteer work had higher odds of depression than men in other marital situations and men who were volunteering. Marital status and volunteer work were not associated with depression in women. However, conflict in marriage was associated with depression in women. Relationships with children, siblings and friends are not associated with depression in this population of elderly people from Quebec.
Concerning consultation with a health professional for symptoms of depression, we have shown that approximately half of those depressed elderly, both among men and among women, have not consulted for their symptoms in the last 12 months. Consultation is associated with high levels of support, but the immediate network (spouse and siblings) seems to act as a substitute for depressed elderly men, reducing their frequency of consultation.
Given the scarcity of Canadian studies on depression prevalence among the elderly population, these results on depression and its associated factors provide important information for clinicians and decision makers for planning and targeting of services by area of residence and for both men and women.

Femmes et hommes face à l’ordinateur : histoires du développement d’une relation positive / Women, men and computers : stories of how a positive relationship has developedBencivenga, Rita 11 December 2012 (has links)
When we talk about adults using computers, inequalities between women and men very often emerge, and particular emphasis is placed on the negative relationship which women supposedly have with computers. Studies on ways of reducing these inequalities have often been based on information collected by IT professionals or expert users. This leaves out the majority of normal users (both women and men). Therefore we have very little information on people who, although they are not experts or professionals, appreciate computers and use one regularly and confidently. This thesis is aimed at this particular group of people. The main objective was to gather information on how women and men who are regular but non-professional users can form positive relationships with ICT computers. Twenty-five narrative interviews were conducted with this aim in mind. Based on a comparison between the sexes, the study explores potential inequalities between women/men and examines the potential role of gender, that is, a “hierarchical system of norms for each sex”. The results show that positive relationships are based on the same aspects for both women and men. The influence of gender depends on power games and on recognising situations which defy the imagination, in which men are much closer to technology than women.

This thesis is about the process of valorization and affirmation of an ethnic identity in the region of Caxias do Sul, Brazil, mainly in the decades of 1970¿s and 1980¿s. The agents of this process are entrepeneurs and intellectuals connected to the entrepeneurial, academic, and cultural fields, among others. Using the description of the intellectuals and entrepeneurs¿ life trajectories, this thesis identifies both the modernization of the region¿s economy and the valorization of the culture of the Italian immigrants¿ descendents. To demonstrate such valorization process, this thesis presents the constitution of a specific field of knowledge, which is about immigration and the role of the entrepeneurs and intellectuals in the politics of culture and development of the region. In this study, entrepeneurs and intellectuals are considered important cultural agents, who produced different representations of the Italian identity. Such agents configured interest groups, which developed cultural actions, whose aim was the promotion of their specific ethnic group. This thesis¿ goal is to demonstrate that the action, production and symbolism involved in this identity process can be explained by the identification with, and sense of belonging to, an ethnic grou / Doutorado / Ciencias Sociais / Doutor em Ciências Sociais

O trabalho
A metodologia,
As
desses mercados. / The aim of this thesis is to analyse the social relationships of trading that are established
among fruit producers of irrigated federal perimeters of the pole Petrolina-Juazeiro in the San
Francisco Valley and the agents of fresh fruit markets. It is investigated how these
relationships operated at the input and the processing subsystems of agribusiness of the
productive chain of fruits are presented, what contexts and social structures influence them
and what mediations are required. The work done allows the understanding of how these
markets function, of the high degree of individualization and of uncertainty, distinctive of the
capitalist means of production. Beyond the theoretical-economical explanations, the market,
before mentioned, is here understood as a historical process of social construction. The
theorethic-methodological approach includes the theme of global agrifood systems and
concepts of economy of organizations and it has as a basis contributions of sociology of
agriculture and food, and of economic sociology; Bourdieu‟s own concepts of field, habitus,
power, hierarchies and dispute of interests, among others, are utilized to comprehend the
nowaday contexts, the action of structuring forces on the markets and the mediations needed
in the social relationships of commercial trading. This empirical investigation, due to
economy of time and resources, was concentrated in the two biggest and most complex
federal perimeters: Nilo Coelho in Petrolina, Pernambuco and Maniçoba in Juazeiro, Bahia
whose inhabitants were selected and considered as representatives of the universe studied.
The methodology, predominantly qualitative, is composed of different research techniques,
including quantitative ones, such as application of analyses of survey that aided in describing
the group of fruit growers that exploit the so-called lots of settlers with up-dated data from the
agents. The semi-structured interviews used the analysis of content method. The results
obtained answered to the hypothesis of the research revealing a long process of social
construction that implicates, today, on a mercantile, intensive and globalized context with a
high degree of uncertitudes and risks, demanding the coordination of multiple factors. As it is
shown in this study, the social relations of commercial trading are submitted to diverse
influences that promote or downplay them and are originated from the own context and social
structures formed during their historical development.. The study identified, from reports,
valuable opportunities to the production of fresh fruit that stimulate the protagonism of their
agents – but not accessible to all of them - formed by distinction of nature and of culture,
highlighting weather particularities, the existence of efficient social networks to access
markets and knowledge, institutional procedures still favorable to production and an
entrepreneurial mentality that seems to give life a meaning. Nevertheless it all, conjunct and
structural threats to competiveness were related, coming from, for instance, the imminent
possibility of collapse of water supply, of climate and economic contingencies, of growing
costs and of commercial strategies of international competitors. To deal with the uncertainties
of this context, the farmers use, in their commercial interactions, personal relations based on
moral values in practices that relent the prices as coordinate factors of these markets.

Previous issue date: 2012-12-27 / In the context of a very competitive market, having teams very well prepared and properly allocated is critical to the survival of businesses. This study aims to identify the repercussion on customer satisfaction and results of companies, from the knowledge of the people working on the front line of these companies, those professionals who play an important role in negotiation, identifying what they value in a subjectively negotiation. Using the tool SVI (Subjective Value Inventory) developed by Curhan et al (2006), from the dimensions of independent and interdependent self-image, attempts to identify the subjective values of the negotiators of a Brazilian retail bank, responsible for a significant part of the negotiations and results of the company in relation to feelings about themselves (Self), the instrumental results, and the process and relationship (Rapport), using interpersonal trust as a moderator in this relationship. Once identified, found results will be related to the customer satisfaction. The purpose of seeking this correlation is due to the assumption that the company exists only because of the customer. For this purpose, it was conducted a quantitative survey, with the application of a structured and closed questionnaire to 532 of the bank negotiators from that bank, who work in the states of Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro and Maranhão, responsible for relationship, prospecting and conducting business with institution’s customers, personal, small business and government. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques, using the method of Partial Least Squares. It was observed that over forty percent of customer satisfaction is explained by the subjective values of the negotiators. The study showed, among others results, that business managers with self-image independently value the Self and instrumental results in a negotiation, and interpersonal trust cognitive negatively moderates this relationship. Still, Rapport is valued in a negotiation by those business managers with interdependent self-image and this appreciation in a negotiation is positively related to customer satisfaction.

: A study in how Requirements Engineering, Social Relationships and Communication can collaborate for improved handling of Customer Requirements in Graphic CommunicationsAlexandersson, Lina, Hinas, Sandra January 2015 (has links)
Purpose – There is no standardized approach for how to managing Customer Requirements, while there are significant challenges in managing them.
Community life gives many advantages, but also disadvantages with which animal must accommodate. In order to maintain social cohesion, group members must therefore make compromise and resolve quickly conflicts of interest. Understanding how individuals reach common and optimal decisions helps to learn more about the social organization, movement patterns and habitat use of the species. In return, this information is essential to the development of new management strategies. In this context, I was interested in group life and collective movements of the European bison, species which experiencing its great come back on its continent of origin. My works have shown that (1) matrilineal ties were at the core of the species’ social life, (2) the European bison, contrary to popular opinion, was far from a strictly forest animal and (3) group movements were preferentially lead by the oldest dominant females which had a calf. Taking into account these results could be greatly improve the reintroduction and management of bison populations and, thereby, allow a better cohabitation with humans.
