Because you wanna do something yourself : A study of how the Swedish punk movement was established from 1977 onwards

Mörtberg, Sara January 2008 (has links)

This thesis describes how the punk movement was started in Sweden and how it continued to grow in the late 70's. The main questions are: How was the punk movement regarded in Sweden?; How did punk reflect the society? and What does the term punk represent?

The study is based on journalistic texts in newspapers and magazines from the period of the breakthrough of punk. The work is based on a methodical review of the material and is organized thematically under topics like opinions, gigs, clothing and music. Initially, punk lead to misunderstandings and misperceptions since few people knew what punk was all about. The study reflects society in its time and is therefore more than just a caption of history.

Punk attracted much attention in Sweden in 1977 and in its wake came a number of misunderstandings due to the punk look and the ‘punks’ alleged views. During 1978, the punks got their own Swedish identity and a lot of the misconceptions started to disappear. In time, ties were tied between the former rivals, the punk, and the Swedish music movement (Musikrörelsen). Samizdat v informační době: Jak ovlivnil Web 2.0 kulturu fanzinů / Printed DIY media in information age: how Web 2.0 influenced culture of fanzines

Hroch, Miloš January 2016 (has links)
The thesis aims to explore changes in the production of music fanzines brought about by the advent of new media. Fanzines are defined as nonofficial magazines published independently in compliance with the code of DIY ethics. The theoretical part of this work focuses on the history of fanzine production as well as on concepts of alternative media, which is necessary in order to examine the current state of the aforementioned alternative media sphere. Furthermore, the theoretical part describes fans' behaviour, as they are the most prominent representatives of active audiences. This behaviour is a key to understanding the motivation behind fanzine production as well as the nature of media communication in the cyberspace, where boundaries between producers and consumers of media messages disappear. The main part of this work analyses interviews with ten figures from the Czech community of both pre-internet authors and those of post-internet era, the latter being used to internet communication. Described discursive patterns reveal the existence of two separate worlds: traditional fanzine community and online environment, coexisting in mutual awareness. Yet the former strives to guard its boundaries, protecting its products from the internet, albeit oftentimes entering the virtual space in search for...

Rock criticism as Literature (1966-1975)

Berthomier, Maud 26 June 2012 (has links)
In the second half of the sixties, rock music and rock criticism emerge in the United States. The protagonists of the two spheres gather to create a sense of camaraderie, but a third field also arises from that encounter. It is first and foremost a literary one, neither really musical, nor completely criticism-oriented. As a result, it challenges us to discuss rock criticism in order to better understand literature rather than music. Lester Bangs in particular dwells within that apparent paradox. As the figurehead of this little group of authors formed in early rock fanzines and magazines, he not only describes the rock myths but also discusses the way they are written. The portrait of the “aspiring writer” originating from the tradition of “literary journalism” also appears in his texts. This links the conditions of writing in the press to the situation of the fresh writer-to-be in literature. Similarly, auguries and echoes of such discourses can be found during the same period in American “direct cinema” and French rock criticism. For instance Donn Alan Pennebaker already underlines in 1965 the need for a non-journalistic criticism on rock in his documentary Dont Look Back. Later, Yves Adrien follows Lester Bangs works. Finally, forty years on, Nick Tosches, Peter Guralnick, Greil Marcus and Lenny Kaye continue today to reshape verbally this initial experience of writing and publishing. This thesis studies the unexpected birth of a new literary field through mythography. Though short-lived, it was nonetheless fecund

RISK, RESPECT & UNSPEAKABLE ACTS : Untangling Intimate-Sexual Consent through 'Intuitive Inquiry' & 'Agential Realism' / RISK, RESPEKT & OBESKRIVLIGA HANDLINGAR : 'Untangling' intimt-sexuellt samtycke genom 'Intuitive Inquiry' & 'Agential Realism'

Storm, Frida January 2021 (has links)
In an attempt to address the issues in research and theory on consent, this thesis explores what consent can be seen as "doing" through an 'Intuitive Inquiry' (Anderson 2011a) and 'Agential Realism' (Barad 2007). Various manifestations of consent appears through: the experience of the researcher, consent research and theory, consent legislation, interviews with professionals in intimate-sexual consent, and, feminist fanzines. Consent evokes issues around agency, power, communication, respect, violence, risk, morals and ethics that go beyond sexual-intimate negotiation. Consent emerges as multiple, complex and fluid in 'intra-action' (ibid.) with the context. Entanglements and paradoxes of consent are further explored in 'diffractive analysis' (ibid.) through "bodily autonomy" and"rights/obligations". As a phenomenon, consent appears to make agency and power intelligible (to different degrees), but, can not be said to provide a viable strategy against sexual violence. The tenets of consent discourse risk (re)producing anxieties around intimacy and sex, responsibilizing survivors and obfuscating sexual violence. Further and improved research on communication in everyday sexual negotiation, sexual violence, consent legislation and what consent "does" is urgently needed.Through creative method and new epistemology the thesis (re)presents a knowledge process true to lived experience, as well as, an invitation to pull the terrible wonderful world, it's complexities, and us in it, closer.
