"Objudna in över våra generöst öppna gränser" : Den assyriska/syrianska invandringen till Sverige 1975-1982 / “Uninvited across our generously open borders” : The Assyrian/Syrian immigration to Sweden 1975-1982

Lancaster, James January 2015 (has links)
This thesis investigates the connection between migration discourses and politics through the assyrian/syrian immigration to Sweden 1975-1982. Using Bacchi’s “What’s the problem (represented to be)?” (WPR) methodology, which is based on Foucault’s theories of governmentality, this thesis investigates how preconceptions of issues forms understanding of them as problems and shapes the possible solutions to the problem concerned. The results of this thesis indicates that the assyrian/syrian immigration to Sweden was understood by the government and its agencies as an issue of control over the population and over immigration. There was a consensus amongst all parties that immigration to Sweden must be regulated both by law and in numbers and in distribution across the country but disagreements existed on solutions. This study aims to increase knowledge of the different responses to the assyrian/syrian immigration in order to further understanding of how political consensus shapes immigration politics and how border politics and integration politics intersect and affect one another.

Identitet och identitetsskapande bland assyrisk/syrianska ungdomar i Södertälje

Aydin, Semir, Simsek, Maria January 2008 (has links)
<p>The key purpose of this research has been trying to understand, and study how assyrian/syriac youth create their identity under the influence of two or several different cultures. We have also looked upon how different factors such as history, religion, language, family and school play a role in the youths identity development.</p><p>We have used a qualitative method in our study where we have interviewed six assyrian/syriac youth. Because of their Christian faith the assyrian/syriac group has been forced to migrate from their countries to different parts around the world. In the new countries the group has been forced to create and live in a diasporaculture. The city Södertälje in Sweden has developed to become a metropole for this ethnic group where they have founded a substantial diasporaculture. In the new countries the assyrian/syriac youth have developed an attitude towards the new country and its culture, which is a mixture of their home culture and the majority communitys. Having to integrate and adjust to two different cultures, while at the same time trying to create ones own identity can sometimes lead to conflicts within the own ethnic group and the majority community. It appeared in the study that the assyrian/syriac youth felt like a duality between the home culture and the culture of the majority community, which felt like living a dual life.</p>

Navigating the transformation to sustainable public meals - The case of Södertälje municipality, Sweden.

Norrby, Jenny January 2021 (has links)
Food production and consumption is causing environmental harm such as climate change and a decline in ecosystem services. Hence, a transformation of the food system is necessary for humanity’s future well-being. The public meal can be used as a tool for establishing healthy and sustainable eating habits at an early age and contribute to changed dietary choices in the future, yet few municipalities are prioritizing this opportunity. This study uses Södertälje municipality as a case to look at the change process of implementing a sustainable diet concept in preschools, schools, and gymnasiums, with the hope of acquiring knowledge and understanding useful for similar cases of transformation. Using a framework for deliberate social-ecological transformations and data primarily from qualitative interviews, I map the phases of transformation to better understand how agency and opportunity context have been used in navigating the process and identify possible opportunities going forward. Findings show the importance of political support, an integrated organization, and rooting new practices amongst the officials. The motivation and persistence of a key leader was crucial in navigating forward, and the process has been driven by several opportunities such as a political window of opportunity for change and the collaboration with a bridging organization in developing a food concept. It also shows how municipalities can have an important role in changing eating habits and how food-related norms and values can potentially shift and contribute to long-term food system change.

Hållbara torg : En studie av Stora Torget i Södertälje ur ett socialt hållbarhetsperspektiv / Sustainable squares : A study of Stora Torget in Södertälje from a social sustainability perspective

Barchin, Elias, Lidström, Ludvig January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this report is to explore what kind of architectural design qualities are included in socially sustainable squares and how these qualities can be applied to Stora Torget in the municipality of Södertälje. Furthermore, the work also seeks to produce a detailed development proposal for the square through anchoring the work in the literature, the will of the people and the prior municipal work. In doing so the following questions have been answered: - How can the environment for those strolling through and staying at Stora Torget be developed in a socially sustainable way? In-depth questions: - What does city life and the outdoor environment look like on Stora Torget today? - How could Stora Torget be further developed to promote a socially sustainable city life? To answer these questions, a triangulation method has been applied which includes a literature study, a survey with the people on the square and an interview with a representative from the municipality. The literature study provided great insight into the qualities of a good civic environment and how these qualities ought to be applied to the development proposal. The survey brought forth the opinions and wishes of the people who in the end would be the ones that indulge in the square. By interviewing a representative from the municipality, the report manages to ground itself and build on the previous work of the municipality. The study has resulted in a detailed development proposal that includes seven sections of improvements that seek to further develop the square in a socially sustainable fashion. The sections of improvements include places for play, sports and resting, vegetation and greenery, lighting, dedicated walking and cycling paths to name a few. The study does not conclude that the development proposal is the one and only way of improving the square's social sustainability. The study is however confident that the implementation of at least some of these qualities would garner a net positive in the work of a more socially sustainable city life.

Shmouni, Alex January 2023 (has links)
This study has conducted eight semi-structured interviews and a thematic analysis to investigate how collective efficacy affects trust in the police, the justice system, and the location of Södertälje, as well as how this, in turn, influences residents' experiences of safety and insecurity. The research design was qualitative and inductive, and the theory of collective efficacy was applied to explain the respondents' experiences. The results showed a high level of fear of crime and a lack of trust in the area due to the high level of crime in the surrounding areas of Södertälje. Lack of trust in the police and the justice system was also one of the most important factors that affected respondents' experiences of safety and fear of crime. / <p>2023-04-13</p>

Digitala lås i hemtjänst : En förstudie till digitala lås i hemtjänsten / Digital locks in-home care : A feasibility study for digital locks in-home care

Andrén, Emil January 2019 (has links)
A study of the perceived need to introduce digital locks on a unit in Södertälje municipality, a quality house is used to select a system of three. Then calculates what investment would cost and finally, a calculation will be presented which shows what an introduction could generate in monetary terms. Investing in a pilot plant with 77 users would cost about SEK 50,000, this is a truth with modification - all costs are included, but only software and hardware licenses. If you count in 20 minutes, 100,000 kronor if you count 10 minutes and 120,000 kronor if you count in 12 minutes. Today, the municipality uses traditional (physical) keys and stores users' keys in both larger and smaller cabinets at the units. According to the routine, the keys should be returned to the key cabinet in the event of a change, which means that there will be a lot of running with the keys. If a security alarm is triggered, the operator has a 30-minute setting for the user. Problems can occur if the keys are not properly registered in the system, as well as during the day that staff have handed the keys to someone else in the staff and did not return the keys to the key box between the handover. It can also be that keys disappear, which must then be replaced by the municipality. The biggest time thieves are: in case of alarm, morning routine, and change of day. It happens a lot during a working day, which means that the staff needs to change keys with each other and staff solve this in the best way for the moment and not always according to the routine. In the reports investigate which system the executives use and the conclusion is that it is appropriate to use a system that fits smoothly into existing systems so that there is no additional system. It is also important for a possible introduction to thinking about how the municipality intends to organize: installation, maintenance, and management - which the municipality has either a central unit, decentralized out of the units or use external contractors, such as a locksmith. The performers are positive and feel that the need is to introduce digital locks, while the property owners do not see a direct benefit from the solution. Much depends on how the municipality for the dialogue and invites to talks at an early stadium and explains what you are planning for a solution.

Using video-based communication to promote increased sorting and recycling of food waste

Maqadesi, Reeta January 2021 (has links)
By increasing the resource management in the food chain, humans reduce the burden on the environment. Increasing sorting and recycling of food waste is one way to increase resource management within the food chain. To achieve this, human collaboration is required. The municipality of Södertälje strives to expand this collaboration, therefore the municipality wants to develop a video-based communication that reaches out to all municipal residents in Södertälje, even those who have a lack of Swedish skills. The purpose of this study is to create a proposal on how Södertälje municipality can design a video-based communication that reaches all municipal residents, regardless of residents' Swedish skills, and which should also be able to contribute to changed behavior and increased knowledge and will regarding sorting and recycling of food waste. The research questions are "What behaviors, knowledge and wills does Södertälje's municipal residents have regarding sorting and recycling of food waste?" and "What aspects can Södertälje municipality take into account when designing a well-functioning video-based communication about food waste aimed at municipal residents?". To answer the research questions and fulfill the purpose of the study, three methods are used: a questionnaire survey, a literature study and a collection of facts. The questionnaire survey was targeted to the people who live in Södertälje, the survey was conducted in three languages; Arabic, English and Swedish. The study presents a result from the survey based on 120 questionnaire responses. The overall results show that most survey participants sort their food waste by taking advantage of the municipality's collection system. Analysis of the survey results shows that most people with poor Swedish skills sort out their food waste only occasionally, which may have to do with the fact that most of that target group has not been reached by the municipality's previous communication work (which the survey confirmed). Furthermore, the results show that all target groups (mostly women) need increased knowledge about how and why food waste is sorted, what should be sorted out as food waste and what should not be sorted out as food waste. In terms of willingness, the results from the survey show that most residents want to know how and why food waste is sorted, no person with poor Swedish skills was unwilling to receive that information. Most survey participants choose to watch a short film about this on at least Facebook. In connection with the results from the literature study and fact-finding, it is concluded that Södertälje municipality should design a video-based communication about food waste which (1) is designed from a social marketing perspective, (2) is based on the target group's needs and interests, (3) has asimple, clear and expressive video content, (4) makes the inhabitants of the municipality convinced that their contribution to the environment is significant, (5) makes communication more attractive by collaborating with famous people, (6) is broadcasted in channels that reach out effectively to municipal residents and (7) lasts for an appropriate period.
