The Male Gaze som retorisktverktyg : En utredande litteraturstudie över hur the Male Gaze kan användas inom retorikvetenskapen

Wiklund, Alexis January 2013 (has links)
The thought behind this bachelor essay regarding gender and rhetorical feminist criticism developed years ago out of the fact that I read just a little too many dirty chick lit-pockets as a teen. Those chick lit-pockets were my first introduction to sex, to gender roles, to how men and women react and are supposed to react to each other and, in some sense, even to feminism. Those chick lit-pockets, later turning into hardcore Harlequin-books, became my benchmark when I started to contemplate the fact that this is a man’s world, produced and reproduced by a male gaze which influences everything from sex, porn, advertising, gender roles, jobs and payment to dirty pockets for teenage girls. The essays aims to show how the male gaze-phenomenon could be to use for the rhetoric discipline: first combined with other rhetorical theories as a way to analyze and understand gender and objectification. The main question asked; How to put the male gaze on a rhetorical leash? This bachelor essay consists of a qualitative literature study focusing on four articles and one book in which five different male gaze-perspective appears. Every article presented will be followed by an explicative chapter in which the articles, specific male gaze- perspective will be combined with relevant rhetorical theories and applied to pop cultural example cases in order to demonstrate its academic potential. The conclusion of this essay establishes that the rhetorical discipline indeed could have great use of the male gaze-perspective while analyzing different kinds of artifacts, if combined with different kinds of methods. It confirms that it is possible to put the male gaze on a rhetorical leash and explains five specific ways to do so.

I möte med hedern : En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares upplevelser av arbetemed hedersrelaterat våld &amp; förtryck / When faced with honor : A qualitative study of social workers' experiences of workingwith honor-related violence &amp; oppression

Almare, Elin, Christiansen, Emma January 2022 (has links)
Previous research has focused on honor as a phenomenon, but has had less focus on socialservices work against honor-related matters. The purpose of this study is to analyze howsocial workers in the social services experience handling honor-related violence andoppression and what they find challenging and difficult. The study was conducted with thehelp of interviews with social workers. To gain a deeper understanding of the subject, wehave also used previous research, articles and reports on the topic in question. Due to theongoing pandemic with Covid-19, all interviews were conducted via video calls using Zoom. The result of this study shows that there are several types of difficulties in working withhonor related issues. Social workers highlight that there is a risk of discriminating againstsomeone based on, for example, ethnicity and how it can difficult to work from a familyperspective. It has also been emphasized both in previous research and in the interviews thathonor violence is not equated with domestic violence, it requires a deeper comprehension. This study also concludes that there is a need for further research regarding howhonor-related matters are to be handled by social service, as well for the development ofrelevant interventions. The results are analyzed using relevant theories; intersectional perspective, systems theoryand psychodynamic theory.

Den hållbara utvecklingens intåg i samhällskunskapen : En jämförande innehållsanalys kring framställning av hållbar utveckling i styrdokument för ämnesplanerna Lpf 94, Gy 11 samt Gy 25

Andersson, David January 2024 (has links)
Sustainable development is arguably a core element and a desirable objective for the institutions of a society to reach for. Upper secondary schools of Sweden are not an exception. Among the many subjects that the upper secondary school provides, civics education is arguably the most relevant one in relation to the matter of sustainable development. How does civic education portray the matter of sustainability, both regarding quantity and quality? What can the production of the subjects' purpose, key content and grades affiliation with sustainable development tell us about the society it´s been framed in? This essay attempts to provide some answers to those questions, by scrutinizing the three different subjects and courses of civics education from 1994 to the upcoming subject of 2025. The democratic, patriarchal and scientifically rational perspectives of society and education, formed by Tomas Englund, constitute the theoretical framework of the essay. The method used is qualitative text analysis, where categorization will help to identify content related to sustainable development in the subjects and courses. The study's result shows that all subjects could be classified as democratic, and that the subjects of 2011 and 2025 provide more and diversified content related to sustainable development than 1994, which indicates a progression. Also, the subjects of 2011 and 2025 could be classified, beyond democratic, as patriarch and scientific rationale, which makes a notable difference between the subjects.

Batikhäxan – ett kvinnligt supermonster : En kritisk diskursanalys av tre politiska pamfletter / The Tie-Dye Witch – a female super monster : A critical discourse analysis of three political pamphlets

Lahti Davidsson, Elisabeth January 2019 (has links)
This thesis shows how misogynous and stereotypical images of women, which historically have been used to transform them into witches and monsters, are now reused in the construction of the term “batikhäxa” (“tie-dye witch”). Feminist and discourse theory form the framework of this study which includes the analysis of three opinion pieces, or political pamphlets, that were published between 2010 – 2018: "Batikhäxorna och makten" by the pseudonym Julia Caesar, "Refugee 'Children" &amp; The Women Who Sexually Exploit Them" by the pseudonym Angry Foreigner and "De ansvariga för Sveriges kaos behöver en intervention för att ställas till svars " by Katerina Janouch. I use critical discourse analysis to study how discursive strategies are applied in these political pamphlets to delegitimate women, making them the scapegoats of society by use of the concept of the tie-dye witch. My thesis argues that the use of the tie-dye witch discourse reproduces patriarchal power relations by denying women the right to have and express their opinions, decide over their own bodies and exercise power in society. The tie-dye witch can therefore also be understood as an anti-feminist counterimage to the feminist witch who was established as a female role model in the 1960s. The study also uncovers the psychological function of the tie-dye witch as a female super monster who demarks the borders of nation, culture, religion, body and gender. In the studied texts, the tie-dye witch is constructed to separate "us" from "the others", and in doing so she also acts as a unifying figure in and of anti-feminist, islamophobic, xenophobic, nationalist and apocalyptic discourses.

Heterosexuella skådespel i Margareta av Navarras <em>Heptameron</em> / <em>Heterosexual Performances in Marguerite de Navarre’s</em> Heptameron

Andersson, Johanna January 2009 (has links)
I have narrowed the object of study down to two of the seventy-two novellas; number forty-seven and forty-three, and to four of the ten devisants; Oisille, Parlamente, Hircan and Dagoucin. The theoretical frame<strong> </strong>is taken from Judith Butlers <em>Gender Trouble. Feminism and the Subversion of Identity</em> (1990) and <em>Undoing Gender</em> (2004) and from Thomas Laqueurs <em>Making Sex. Body and Gender from the Greeks to Freud</em> (1990). Butler’s aim is to deconstruct terms such as feminine and masculine, which function as imagined normalization categories due to power relations. In <em>Undoing Gender </em>she asks: “If I am a certain gender, will I still be regarded as part of the human? Will the ‘human’ expand to include me in its reach? If I desire in certain ways, will I be able to live?” These questions are of great importance for my study, which presents how the categories of sexuality and gender can be negotiated in the equalized frame Marguerite de Navarre creates for her ten devisants and novellas. At the same time I assess how every attempt to go beyond the boundaries of norms fails due to a norm of heterosexuality, which constrains the binary categories of man and woman.</p><p>There are four main discourses by which the heterosexual norm is internalized by the devisants in <em>Heptameron</em>: the Christian, the aristocratic, the patriarchal and the neo-platonic. I suggest that each of the four devisants that I have studied represents one of these discourses. Since there are no definitive lines or definitive conclusions reached in the discussions among them it would be more correct to say that all the discourses effect all of the devisants to some extent, but<strong> </strong>that all the devisants act through a main discourse when he/she express his/her individual opinions.</p><p>When the devisants in the frame leave it to the reader to come to a conclusion about right or wrong behavior for men and women, they are still rather set in their own opinions and, also, quite unforgiving. It is my contention that the novellas create more room for negotiations of the sexual and gender roles than the frame. In novella forty-three a woman acts within the role of the active, hence masculine, part of a love affair, and novella forty-seven tells the story of a <em>parfaicte</em> <em>amytié</em> between two men. But it is also obvious that these attempts to stress and break the norms of sexuality and gender are unsuccessful, once again due to the fixed norm of heterosexuality which constrain the binary categories of man and woman. In the novellas these very failures put the norms under stress, since they point out the very problem with the determination of sexual and gender categories which were prevalent during the Renaissance.</p><p>I conclude my results by returning to Butler’s question above; “If I desire in certain ways, will I be able to live?” In <em>Heptameron </em>one can always find a chance to try a different way, but in the end only the heterosexual desire in which man and woman are in dichotomy survives.</p>
