Our thesis is an analysis of four librarians view on LGBTQ and which implications these views have on the practical work with LGBTQ issues in the public library. The three ideal types we can identify are the excluding, the including, and the normcritical approach. We also want to know if the four librarians’ standpoints can be connected to the above mentioned ideal types. We can see that the area where the implementations of the three ideal types are most visible is the way LGBTQ material is displayed in the library space. An example of this is whether the library chooses to have a special LGBTQ shelf or not. Public libraries in Sweden are supposed to serve all patrons. In order to do so it is critical for the users who define themselves as LGBTQ to be able to find literature that reflect their identity. Novels with a LGBTQ-theme are hard to find in public libraries. We have come to the conclusion that education of the staff, whether longer or shorter, can make big difference in the library. / Program: Bibliotekarie

This master thesis aims to examine the process of indexing fiction when it comes to area of sexuality and gender identity. The empiric work that forms the basis of the thesis are three investigations:(a) examining the current status of indexing fiction within the catalogues of six Swedish medium-sized libraries;(b) interviewing librarians who allocate the subject headings; and(c) an analysis of the Swedish subject heading system Att indexera skönlitteratur.This will be concluded with an analysis of the gathered material through queer theoretic standpoint with the help of critical classification and its inclusion through separation, and marginalization where subjects that differs from the norm is included but only by being separated from the norm, or ignored totally. This will show that there are similarities with how different groups get treated within the classification systems and how they are treated in subject heading indexing. An example of this in Att indexera skönlitteratur is that heterosexuality never is mentioned in the subject heading but is always present as the silent norm, while gender identity is marginalized through exclusion of the subject heading, and related words are instead being included under sexual identity. / Uppsatsnivå: D

This Master’s Thesis examines the subject indexing of all Swedish gay fiction published from year 2000 until 2007. This is done from a queer theoretical- and domain analytical perspective. The study is conducted in the catalogue BURKsök created by BTJ which is the largest library media company in Sweden. The purpose of the study is to examine the heterosexual norm in fiction indexing and to study to what extent gay fiction is to be found by subject. Asking research questions about the vocabulary available in the subjects headings list used by BTJ, the description of gay fiction in BURK-sök and the influences this has on the indexing of gay fiction in Swedish public libraries. A quantitative study is conducted by gathering and analysing the subject headings given gay fiction in BURK-sök and a random selection of public libraries using their service. Results show that the indexing of gay fiction in BURK-sök to a large extent do not describe the gay-theme of the book and that the libraries that buy their subject headings from BTJ most often do not change the headings. The study concludes that there is a heterosexual norm in fiction indexing and that this has a negative effect on the retrieval of gay fiction by subject. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Denna uppsats behandlar hur representationen av ett samkönat par, Dorian Pavus och Iron Bull i dataspelet Dragon Age: Inquisition, orsakar stridigheter i spelets fandomgrupp. I uppsatsen analyseras hur medietexten representerar paret samt fansens reception av paret och deras sexualitet. Min studie visar att fansens debatter präglas av konflikter om representationen av queerhet i dataspelet. Flera av debattörernas argument har en prägel av moralpanik. Denna debatt analyseras teoretiskt utifrån representationsteori och queerteori. Slutsatsen är att fansens debatter riskerar att begränsa representationen av sexualitet i dataspel. My intention with this essay is to analyze how lesbianism is described in Swedish youth literature. I have done a queer reading of three books written in the 2000’s to find out if lesbian love is described as a problem, and if it isn’t: what it causing problems in the novels? When reading the novels I have also observed how the environment and the characters themselves perceive lesbian identity. The novels I have chosen are Det händer nu by Sofia Nordin (2010), Som eld by Sara Lövestam (2015) and Du och jag, Marie Curie by Annika Ruth Persson (2003). To apply queer theory I have used several concepts, such as heteronormativity, coming out, shame and internalized homophobia, when analyzing the texts. The conclusion of my analysis is that one of the novels describes the lesbian love itself as a problem, while the other two are wider in their descriptions. Some characters are comfortable in their lesbian identity, while some are struggling with shame and coming out-issues. My final conclusion is that it is heteronormativity that is causing problems in the novels, not lesbianism.

Transpersoner är en utsatt grupp som blir exkluderade och diskriminerade i samhället. Få studier lyfter dessa människors utsatthet och än mindre deras egna upplevelser av utsattheten. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur transpersoner upplever bemötandet av yrkesverksamma socialarbetare i utredningsprocessen för könsbekräftande behandling. Detta undersöks med hjälp av en kvalitativ metod i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer som sedan analyseras utifrån en tematisk innehållsanalys. Studien utgår från teorierna intersektionalitet och queerteori för att analysera respondenternas utsagor. Studiens konklusion är att respondenterna i denna studie saknar ett professionellt bemötande från yrkesverksamma socialarbetare och att de behövs mer kunskap för att kunna bemöta denna grupp på ett professionellt sätt. / <p>2019-01-17</p>

<p>I uppsatsen undersöker jag ur ett queerteoretiskt perspektiv, och med diskursanalys och dekonstruktion som metoder, heteronormativitet i skönlitterära bilderböcker. Analysen stödjer sig dels på Michel Foucaults samt Ernesto Laclaus och Chantal Mouffes diskursteorier, dels på Judith Butlers beskrivningar av samhällets heterosexuella matris och identitet som en performativ processuell konstruktion. Jag undersöker om och på vilka sätt heterosexualitet framställs som given sexuell identitet i de mest lånade bilderböckerna på Stockholms stadsbibliotek de senaste åren och i ett urval böcker som skildrar hur familjer får barn. Det innefattar granskning av såväl vilka relationer som representeras i böckerna som vilka subjektspositioner som böckerna erbjuder läsaren. Har läsaren möjlighet att identifiera sig med litterära figurer utan att först ta ställning till kön, undrar jag. Och om subjektspositionerna är knutna till genuspositioner i böckerna, vilka sätt att vara flicka/kvinna och pojke/man framställs? Det är avgörande i undersökningen, mot bakgrund av Butlers teorier, för att förstå i vilken utsträckning och på vilka sätt uppfattningen om könen som heterokulturellt komplementära – en uppfattning som naturaliserar heterosexualitet som given sexuell identitet – framställs i bilderböckerna. Jag undersöker även vilken betydelse möjligheten att kunna göra olika läsningar av bilderböcker har för läsarens konstruktion av mening och innebörd i dem. Därtill avslutar jag uppsatsen med att diskutera dels vilka konsekvenser ett heteronormativt utbud i bilderböcker i förskolan kan få för barns skapande av identitet samt av uppfattningar om såväl hur flickor och pojkar kan vara som om normalitet i fråga om sexuell identitet, dels hur utbudet kan utgöra grund för diskriminering av regnbågsbarn.</p>

<p>Undersökningens syfte var att öka kunskapen samt förståelsen för kognitiva bedömningar vid fiktiva med multidimensionell problematik, där en väsentlig faktor är sexuell identitet hos socionomstuderande på Socialhögskolan på Stockholms Universitet. Frågeställningen var; Hur bedömer ett urval av socionomstudenter fiktiva klientfall med multidimensionell problematik där en avgörande faktor är sexuell identitet? För att besvara frågeställningen användes en mixad design, bestående av en kvantitativ och en kvalitativ del. Tre klasser på socionomlinjen besvarade enkäterna. Intervjupersonerna för den kvalitativa delen värvades genom en intresseanmälan i de kvantitativa enkäterna. Resultaten analyserades i ett mångdimensionellt perspektiv. Resultaten i både den kvantitativa och den kvalitativa delen av undersökningen visar att sexuell identitet kan ha betydelse vid kognitiva bedömningar av fiktiva klientfall med multidimensionell problematik för socionomstuderande. Föreställningar och attityder kring sexuell identitet har betydelse i ett heteronormativt samhälle vid bedömning av fiktiva klienter. Den grundläggande förståelsen inför klienten avgör hur bedömningen och bemötandet blir.</p>

<p>Uppsatsen handlar om normaliserande och meningsskapande praktiker bland statsanställda på olika myndigheter. Utifrån fem homosexuella tjänstemäns och tjänstekvinnors berättelser om sina arbetsliv och karriärer undersöks hur normalitet skapas och upprätthålls, hur homosexuell subjektivitet formas och hur normativa maktordningar kan utmanas. I uppsatsen visar vi att sexualitet inte kan förstås isolerat från andra maktordningar utan måste ses som intimt förknippat med</p><p>föreställningar om kön, klass, etnicitet, ålder och yrkesposition. Ju närmare en normativ position den homosexuelle befinner sig desto mindre utmanande blir den homosexuella identiteten. Framför allt är kopplingen mellan sexualitet och kön viktig. En homosexuell identitet som inte utmanar föreställningen om två kompletterande kön uppmuntras av omgivningen medan könsöverskridande könsuttryck bemöts med negativa reaktioner.</p>

<p>Many reports infer that questions of HBT and homophobia are either poorly addressed or not addressed at all in schools today. This study is based on interviews with teachers of students aged 13 to 15. It is an inquiry to the teacher's thoughts about, knowledge of, and sense of responsibility to inform students of the subjects 'Queer', 'HBT', and 'Homophobia'. Who is responsible for educating the students regarding these subjects and what do teachers think about including these subjects in their curriculum? How do the teachers describe their knowledge of the subjects? Do they require further knowledge themselves in order to educate others in a proper way? The study is grounded in queer theories. This study shows that teachers do have some knowledge and are interested in teaching the subjects. Unfortunately the subject matter presently lacks support and status in schools and as a result is left behind.</p>
