"Skräckblandad förtjusning" : True crime:s påverkan på rädsla att utsättas för våldsbrott / Mixed emotions : The impact of true crime on fear of violent crimesNguen, Vladyslava, Balija, Amra, Lindeberg, Alma January 2023 (has links)
This bachelor thesis aims to investigate how young women discuss the purposesbehind true crime consumption and how they describe the impact of true crimeconsumption has on their fear of violent crimes. Mäns våld mot kvinnor i nära relationer : En litteraturstudie om våldsutsatta kvinnors beskrivning av sina erfarenheter i en våldsam relation / Men's violence against women in close relationships : A literature study of abused women's description of their experiences in a violentrelationshipSimonsen, Ayana, Khadar, Noura January 2023 (has links)
The most common type of violence that women suffer is perpetrated by aperpetrator the woman has a close relationship with. This literature study aims to investigate which factors are behind the woman's decision to either remain in a violent relationship or to leave it, and whether the normalization of violence affects a woman's decision to leave a violent relationship, as well as how these women describe their experiences of the violence to which they were subjected. The method of the study is a literature review based on qualitative and quantitative methods and a mixture of them both, where the writers of this study have analyzed and reviewed thirteen scientific articles. This literature review has only concentrated on adult women in heterosexual relationships who are subjected to violence by their partners. It shows that there are four themes that affects the woman's decision to remain in her violent relationship or to leave it, which is women's feelings towards the man and her feelings of shame and guilt, women's feelings and experiences of the man's behavior, women'sexperiences of violence and threats as well as the context the woman finds herself in, which can be about economic dependence on the man, social norms such as religious and cultural factors, the family such as sacrificing herself for the sake of the children and a lack of social support. When analyzing results and in combination with other sources from previous research as well as theories about model learning, stigma & shame theory, the normalizationprocess, a gender perspective and intersectionality perspective, it turns out that there are many other factors that influence the woman's decision either to stay with her violent partner or to leave him. These factors can be barriers to why women exposed to violence are not getting out of the relationship. However, these factors may provide an explanation for why women leave their violent partner. It is also stated that the most common reason for domestic violence against women is due to manly power imbalance between men and women in society, but also because the woman normalizes violence in everyday life, which makes the breakup from the relationship more difficult.

Akutsjuksköterskors kunskap om forensisk omvårdnad på akutmottagning : En systematisk och integrativ litteraturstudie / Emergency nurses' knowledge in forensic nursing in the emergency department : A systematic and integrative literature designRydberg, Annelie, Westerling, Malin January 2022 (has links)
Every day, an emergency nurse meets patients who have been subjected to violence. That creates uncertainty and anxiety for the emergency nurse as lack of training, education and available praxis affects the work around the forensic patient. To meet with patients who are victims of violence puts high demands on the emergency nurse knowledge to operate forensic nursing and at the same time nurse for the patient vid dignity and care. The aim of this study is to explore all available litterature about the emergency nurse’s knowledge among forensic nursing in the emergency department. This thesis was carried out as a systematic integrative litterature review where 13 articles with both qualitative and quantitative data were analysed. The carrying result includes articles from 6 continents which shows a widespread. A thematic analyse was carried out through the method designed by Braun and Clarke. The result is presented in three themes: the knowledge of the forensic work, routines and guidelines in the forensic and meeting with the patient who are victim of violence. The results show that the emergency nurse experiences major deficiencies in training and access to tools that can be used in forensic work. These shortcomings create insecurity and fear among the emergency nurse in the care of the abused patient. Lack of routines and policy documents leads to the emergency nurse not wanting to be part of the forensic care. The feelings experienced by the emergency nurse affect the care meeting with the patient who has been subjected to violence. The emergency nurse needs to focus on creating a caring meeting and be present to reduce the patient's suffering. Through an open approach and the ability to show compassion, the emergency nurse can alleviate future but for the patient who has been subjected to violence.

Psychosocial Function, Legal Involvement and Violence in Mental DisorderBuchanan, Alec, Moore, Kelly E., Pittman, Brian, McKee, Sherry A. 03 December 2021 (has links)
BACKGROUND: The correlates of legally significant outcomes that have been identified in people with mental disorders are of limited value in understanding the mechanisms by which these outcomes occur. AIMS: To describe the relationships between mental disorder, impaired psychosocial function, and three legally significant outcomes in a representative sample of the US population. METHODS: We used a population survey, the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC-III, sample size 36,309), to identify people who self-reported serious trouble with the police or the law over the past 12 months and two lifetime outcomes, being incarcerated and engaging in violence to others. DSM-5 categories were generated using the Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities Interview Schedule-5. Psychosocial function was assessed using social and role-emotional function scores of the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey Version 2. RESULTS: Participants with mental disorder, but not people with no diagnosis, who reported serious trouble with the police or with the law during the previous 12 months reported significantly worse psychosocial function than those who did not report such trouble. The size of the statistical effect varied by diagnosis, moderate for some forms of mental illness and for alcohol abuse and nonsignificant for drug abuse and the personality disorders. Effect sizes were largest for diagnoses where legally significant outcomes were least common. CONCLUSIONS: The effect of impaired psychosocial function, for instance in disrupting family and social networks that would otherwise protect against these legally significant outcomes, warrants further investigation in studies with longitudinal designs.

Hambach Forest Occupation : Relationships of Care between Plants and HumansLehečková, Tereza January 2023 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the interspecies relationships of care in the Hambach Forest, Germany. It covers the caring relations between the human activists protecting the Forest by occupying it and the trees growing there. The text covers the affectionate dimension of the activists’ caring relation towards the trees as well as how the caring manifested in their attentiveness and actions. Apart from the traditional ethnographic methods, the research is rooted in multispecies methodology, particularly plant ethnography. As primary theoretical frameworks, the concepts of more-than human sociality and world-making by Anna Tsing were used, as well as the understanding of the interspecies ethics of care by Puig de la Bellacasa. The analysis shows that the caring relationship of the activists was often rooted in the situated relationality that emerges from particular relations with particular trees or other nonhumans. As a navigating tool, activists sometimes used also the nature-culture dichotomy, and sometimes they, on the contrary, contested it. I show that relationships of care were mutual and occurred in the direction from activists to the trees but also that the trees and Forest took care of many activists’ needs. I also demonstrate how the trees and other nonhumans actively participated in the processes of co-creating the more-than-human sociality in the Forest. The analysis shows that the activists’ behaviour was not always coherent or determined by the same values but was often ambivalent and changing depending on the situation.

Negotiating Peace: Analyzing Rebel Group Compliance with International Humanitarian LawKouwenhoven, Nicole January 2024 (has links)
The negotiation process of a peace agreement is an uncertain period where adversaries can have a difficult time credibly guaranteeing their commitment to an approaching agreement. However, violence is often ceased before a peace agreement is signed, demonstrating their importance for understanding non-violent and violent behavior by warring actors. Furthermore, research finds that rebels at times comply with laws of war during conflict and negotiations. Hence, the purpose of this study is to derive a better understanding of rebel groups’ non-violent behavior, and whether it relates to the commitment problem and the negotiation process. This paper argues that by complying with international law, rebels can convey a signal with a peace-making objective, increasing the likelihood of a successful negotiation. Through a qualitative, structured and focused comparative case analysis of the FMLN in El Salvador and the NPFL in Liberia, the study finds that rebel’s compliance with IHL may serve as a costly signal that mitigates the credible commitment problem and leads to the signing of a successful peace agreement. However, further research is needed to support this hypothesis.

: Socialtjänstens arbete mot den våldsbejakande extremismen / “It does not work for almost 300 municipalities to be fully prepared for something that almost never happens… But when that happens, it’s still too hard for them to handle…” : Social Services’ work against violent extremismStrandberg, Nils January 2023 (has links)
Violent extremism is a new phenomenon in the Swedish context and has been raised to attention in the last few years, not only in the daily tabloids. Violent extremism has previously been handled at national level but has now changed to be handled at a more local and communal level. The work has in some parts been led centrally from a national coordinator for protecting the democracy against violent extremism to now be led by the authority Center against violent extremism. The national coordinator for protecting the democracy against violent extremism stated through its national strategy against violent extremism a guideline that all municipalities must establish local action plans against violent extremism. The purpose of this study is to investigate and make visible how social workers work against violent extremism, where the emphasis of what was investigated was on the implementation process of the local action plans against violent extremism. The results of the study show how preventive work is seen as one of the success factors in the work against violent extremism, how municipal differences affect the work and that it is challenging with the phenomenon itself due to its (political) tension. At the same time, examples are shown of how social workers use their room for action to provide the conditions to cope with their job despite the challenges.
