後現代的色情與猥褻:性與身體的擬象 / Postmodern pornography and the ob-scene

本論文以後現代符號與真實的關係,重新檢視色情的概念,並由此提出不同於傳統色情研究的問題意識。本論文由色情的再現出發進行延伸思考,認為色情在內部特性、發展歷程、與社會文化脈絡等不同因素作用下,已逐漸由代表現實的再現,走向符號獨立運作的擬象,因此色情必須要重新定義為:一個以性與身體為元素,營造真實的符號模型。此時色情中的性與身體脫離了與真實的指涉,而在模型的運作中成為大量製造、流通的符號,但其實質內涵卻在其中消失,形成一種後現代的猥褻。人們在後現代的色情中,轉而為符號的過度真實所吸引,使對性與身體的慾望被對真實的慾望所取代。然而在刻意追求真實的同時,人們反因此陷入了色情的符號模型中,不斷要消費符號、從中得到真實感的刺激,擬仿運作就此更為劇烈,性與身體的擬象也滲入一般日常生活範疇。透過理論詮釋、個案分析,筆者在論文逐步鋪陳新的色情論述,主張色情的符號模型已成為當前真實運作的典型,因為在符號的強勢作為下,猥褻已成為一般的情境,真實則成為人們主要的慾望;此時色情與真實關係的舊提問,出現了極不同的回應方式與關懷重點。在論文最後,筆者歸納出對後現代色情與猥褻所發展的論點,陳述當前文化情境中符號、慾望、真實之間的關係,並就此提出批判與反思的可能。

初級英語教材中文化主題的再現分析 / Analysis on the representation of different culture themes in two English learning magazines for basic-level English learners

本研究目的在於了解市面上英語教學雜誌中,如何再現文化相關的議題。其中,英語教學雜誌使用甚麼方式來再現不同文化和它們所呈現的內容為何為本研究的軸心。此研究採用質化的文本分析法細讀從2009年6月號到2010年5月號的兩本初級英語教學雜誌---"大家說英語"和"ABC互動英語雜誌"的文化內容。 研究發現兩本雜誌都使用描述性文章(descriptive text)和圖片來敘文化相關的議題,而呈現的文化內容多以節慶、旅遊、文學等主題為主;"大家說英語"著重在美國生活文化的介紹;而"ABC互動英文雜誌"則以本土化來結合異國文化。 / This study aims to seek what and how culture-related contents are represented and introduced in English learning materials. Two best-selling English learning magazines targeting at basic-level English learners are selected—“Let’s Talk in English” and “ABC Interactive English Magazine”. Through integrating and re-categorizing the classification of cultural themes developed by Fleewelling (1994), Pesola (1991), Robinson (1982), and Chen (2002), the study creates a new system to classify different culture-related topics. Combining with textual analysis, the study examines the forms used to show culture-related topics, the representation of different cultural themes, and the balance of introducing different cultures. Moreover, the similarities and differences in terms of the way both English learning magazines represent cultural themes are addressed. The result shows that informative text, contextualized practice, vocabulary, and pictures are forms commonly used by both magazines. In Let’s Talk in English (LTE), various forms are adopted in introducing the same topic; while ABC Interactive English Magazine (ABC) uses only one form on each topic. Both magazines include big C themes, i.e. politics, economy, and literature and small c themes such as celebration of holidays and traveling. However, LTE uses examples concerning American lifestyles to illustrate these themes, whereas ABC combines more different foreign and local cultures in representing culture-related topics. The findings also suggest the diversity and immediacy of English learning magazines on the representation of culture-related topics.

旅遊圖像的建構與複製— 以「北歐旅遊書籍」為例 / The reconstructed picture images in Taiwan’s tourist books of Northern Europe

隨著旅遊人口的持續增加,新的旅遊地也不斷被發現,旅遊圖像因而被大量建構並隨著媒體充斥於日常生活。經由意象與符號等意義的累積過程,各個景點的旅遊框架集結起來逐步建構出大眾對某個抽象「地方」的印象,進而產生「標準版」與「類型化」的旅遊圖像。 旅遊圖像的建構實是繞著特定空間的想像以及與此想像相關的社會實踐詮釋架構。然而旅遊實踐雖然發生在具體社會空間卻也涉及想像建構面向,藉由身體的移動而將特定旅遊圖像的想像連結到具體空間。 由是觀之,旅遊書籍常成為介紹旅遊景點、提供資訊的媒介,作/旅者陳述旅遊經歷的同時當也強化、再製了特定的旅遊圖像,提供讀者觀看世界的視野與角度。換言之,人們不僅通過圖像瞭解其它地方的生活方式與文化內容,也藉此建構了對他方的認知與想像。 / New tourist attractions are being discovered continually with the increase of touristic population, therefore, tourist images are constructed and being full of daily life along with media. Though the accumulative process of image and symbol, tourist frameworks create the abstract impression of “ Place” gradually, and then generate the edition of “Standard” and ”Typed ”. The construction of tourists image is indeed related to the imagination and social practice of framing around a specific space. Tourism practice, however, occurs in a concrete space but also involves imagine-constructed, with the movement of the body connect a link between imagination and a specific space. Therefore, travel books are the medium which introduce the tourist attractions, while author/ traveler describe their own experience, meanwhile, they are strengthening the vision and perspective for readers to watch the world. In other word, people not only learn the life style and cultural content by tourist images, but also construct the cognition and imagination of the place.

全球暖化科普出版品的視覺再現 / Visual Representation of Popular Science Publications of Global Warming

本研究係透過對全球暖化科普出版品的圖像再現分析,研究圖像與公眾溝通暖化議題時的角色、功能與意義,進而討論圖像設計與公眾參與間的關係發展。圖像分析的來源主要以2007年IPCC發表第四次報告後,全球暖化科學知識的發展成熟、確定人為造成暖化及國際社會採取行動等社會氛圍為觀察點,以臺灣出版市場為選材來源,蒐集13本以圖文共構為主的科普文本,取徑符號學並應用家族相似性觀點於圖像再現的分析主軸。 研究者立論與分析思維的處理方式,是以宏觀的知識社會學理論視角,先行探索全球暖化知識的認識論及其在臺灣產製的研究議題,以及科學哲學、風險社會對此知識觀點的探討,再以社會建構論的角色切入,梳理社會建構論者如何分別從規範建構與權力建構的詮釋,分析全球暖化議題與社會間的互動發展關係,並與先前闡述理論形成辯證過程。研究者接著再從媒體再現全球暖化議題的相關研究,進行資料蒐集與分析,討論過去在風險議題下圖像被賦予的角色與功能。最後,研究者據成因面、影響面與解決面為圖像所依附的敘事架構,整理分析出各面向下圖像家族再現的論述主題、議題與意義,將其結果分析與處理後,再與先前的學理對話,形成本研究的發現與結論。 本研究發現成因面圖像多再現科學共識,影響面圖像側重全球暖化帶來的災難事件及不確定性,解決面圖像則再現技術與行為規範的論述。在圖像輔助文本論述的角色界定下,各方面有以下特徵與意義: 首先,文本在描述科學事實與因果關係時,圖像再現會顯示科學文化圈的慣用符碼,如模型、數字、圖表、科學家研究的歷史相片等融入圖像再現,形塑能摒除懷疑、建構嚴謹可信的知識論述。 其次,解釋全球暖化影響時,圖像再現則傾向表現災難正在發生,在各地不斷游移與變動的不確性,來表徵全球暖化風險的系統性與連鎖效應。圖像再現會善用人們認知習慣上的比較手法、恐懼符碼來建構意義:直接影響面上,會以比較法配合描述改變中的自然景觀(融冰、海平面上升),或是各地災難事件的受創場景,以輔助闡述暖化持續進行的現象,並構連宗教文化的神話系統,象徵人類的罪與罰,以激起行動與重生的意念;衍生影響面上,圖像再現則以恐懼相反的修辭策略,如美麗、平和與可愛的動植物圖像及依賴自然生活與生存的人們、文化古都等景觀,搭配控訴暖化破壞的書寫,以建構等待救援受難的他者,圖像在散發出美感外隱藏生命共同體的道德訊息。 最後,文本在議論如何解決風險社會中複雜的系統性利益與需求問題時,再生能源的技術就在其中扮演著關鍵性的工具角色,其中又以太陽能、風能等圖像較常被引用。圖像再現則以車、房為載體,將回收技術、再生能源科技、生態技術的想像與論述置入其中,提供接受科技治理而無須改變現有生活的價值與態度。但是,風車圖像所再現的風場與發電廠,隱藏高技術門檻及科技專家治理的形態,隱藏由政府、產業與科技專家共治的大治理論述;而方舟圖像再現意指科學或科技行動須集思廣益才能事竟其功。在行為規範面,圖像再現節能減碳、綠化環境的行為圖標,輔助個人參與適應暖化行動論述,抗爭與遊行圖像的再現則指涉公眾參與科技民主的一種形式,卻忽略其他多元參與論述的圖像。上述研究發現與學理概念對照與分析後,本研究從公眾參與角度提出以下科普圖像設計的實務建議與創新見解: (一)圖像設計可減少註解式的圖文關係,以故事發揮圖像敘事潛能。 (二)公眾涉入感為理念,設計與公眾生活脈絡相關的圖像與論述。 (三)公眾能動性為理念,邀非專家設計圖像,建立情感與認知連接點。 (四)圖像用以轉化公眾的願景,專家與公眾共構小治理規劃的實踐。 公眾解讀科普與參與傳播,則能豐富媒體素養教育的理論的實踐範疇,圖像則發揮圖像激勵公眾參與的潛能。 / This study examines the roles, the functions, and the significance of images for communication with the public on global warming issues by analyzing image representations of popular science publications on global warming. The study also discusses the relationship development between image design and public participation. According to the study’s findings of popular science images, "cause images" represent scientific consensus, "effect images" correspond to catastrophic events and uncertainties resulting from global warming, and "resolution images" signify the descriptions of technologies and the norms of behaviors. Under the current defined role of images for the supporting text, we observe the following characteristics. First, when describing scientific facts and the cause-and-effect relationships in the content, the representing images of the symbols commonly used by the science culture circle, which include models, numbers, figures/tables, and historical photos, eliminate doubt and allow for the construction of significant and credible knowledgeable narratives. Second, when explaining the impact of global warming, the representing images often lean towards showing the shifting and changing uncertainties caused by disasters that are occurring in order to signify the systems and the chain reactions produced by the risks of global warming. Third and lastly, the study also explores the key roles of sustainable energy technologies for solving the problems of complex systems and the needs of society. The most common images cited are those of solar energy and wind energy. After the comparison and analysis of the abovementioned findings and the concepts of various theories, we provide practical suggestions and innovative insights for a scientific image design from the public participation perspective as follows. (1) Image design can reduce the needs for image annotation, and story-centered images retain great potential for illustration. (2) Public participation shall be considered as the basis for designing public life-correlated images and narratives. (3) Experts should design images based on the concept of public dynamics so as to establish a connection between emotion and recognition. (4) For the transformation of public thought using images, experts and the public should carry out the construction of a small plan together. The public perception of science and public participation in communication can enrich the practical areas of the theories of media literacy education. Images can additionally generate potential benefits through design of public participation.

醫師勞動的媒體論述 / The discourses of doctor's labour in the media

本論文以台灣1995年3月實施全民健康保險為分水嶺,1985-2010年的醫療環境為脈絡、同時間的《聯合報》為研究樣本,檢視醫生的實際勞動過程與勞動條件,相較新聞傳媒論述的落差。 因年代演進、健保前後的報紙再現確實不同,新聞與投書最大的迥異之處出現於財團化,醫病關係與醫療糾紛,醫療極限與去專業化,情緒勞動,因健保更為負面的醫德,及健保體制爭議等的分析類目上,呈現醫師的媒體形象隨時間遞嬗變動。無論是否包含個案,從報導數目來看,可以發現中期、後期醫病關係惡化,醫療糾紛增加,醫學知識去專業化與有限性;健保下的負面形象初實施便有、後期卻越形明顯,可謂與財團化同步。新聞數量、論述,與消費主義社會、醫療環境、政策之演變高度正相關。不過,媒體長期以來多忽略體制變革牽涉個體醫師的「勞動過程與勞動條件」問題,醫師團體凝聚的勞動意識則直至最近才逐漸被喚醒與展現在媒體上。 媒體在醫療議題中扮演的角色,確有出現變化,然,不是晚一步,就是極少報導。在歷時性或個案新聞中,台灣媒體對於醫師身體勞動、情緒勞動之變遷,商品化醫療服務與健康權利有所衝突,以及結構、資本主義之變因與影響,均再現與詮釋不甚全面。 / This thesis investigates how the United Daily News(UDN) represented the doctor’s labor process in Taiwan between 1985 and 2010, taking 1995 as the watershed when the National Health Insurance (NHI) was implemented, prior to and after which the working conditions of medical people have experienced substantial changes. As such, the UDN did register differences in its treatment of related events accordingly. The current study has focused upon issues related to conglomeration, doctor-patient relationship and medical malpractice, limits of medicine and deprofessionalization, emotional labor, negative medical ethics, as well as health care system debates etc.. Images and discourses of doctors in the media have changed across two period of time. It becomes clear that since 1995 the doctor-patient relationship has been getting worse, while medical negligence increased and deprofessionalization of medicine multiplied. In addition, with the introduction of NHI, there were more medical ethics violation and capitalists have made more gains with medicalconglomeration. Another factor contributing to the increase of medical news is the arrival of a consumerist society, and simultaneous changes of medical environment and policy. Although there is such a transformation of Taiwan’s health system, the media has however failed to represent adequately the doctor’s changing labor process and conditions. The UDN has not covered such topic until very recently in the wake of several protests arising out of worsening medical environment. In conclusion, Taiwan’s media has paid insufficient attentions to various significant issues, doctors’ physical labor and their emotional labor, commodified medical services and its conflicts with universal rights of health are among the most eye-catching.

資優生自殺事件的媒體再現研究 / News Representations Study of Gifted or Talented Students' Suicides

據報載,建國中學學生自殺事件頻繁,十一年內多達七件案例,震撼國內教育當局,也讓社會大眾開始重視資優生的心理輔導與壓力調適問題。自殺事件的報導在近年來逐漸受到重視,又以被冠以「名校」光環的建國中學、台灣大學等校學生自殺事件受到矚目。 依據國外新聞學界對新聞價值的各種界定,資優生的自殺事件符合「顯著性(prominence)」以及「不尋常性(unusualness)」,自殺者的身分會成為媒體特別關注的焦點,國外研究也指出,影劇界或政治界的名人自殺容易造成模仿,新聞媒體的報導抉擇點也是出自於新聞價值的判斷與選擇。 根據國內學者研究,媒體對資優教育及資優生的認知仍有待加強,通常只要是就讀明星學校或學業表現較佳的學生,就會被媒體冠上「資優生」的標籤。然而這些學生確實「資優」嗎? 本研究論文將藉由分析國內四大報對於「資優生」自殺事件的新聞,了解我國報紙媒體是否在「資優生」的正確認知上進行報導,探究媒體報導的正確比率;同時,也將分析報紙媒體如何報導「資優生」自殺事件,以及報紙媒體如何報導其自殺原因?而報導中有無汙名化、標籤化或刻板印象的敘述?本論文將使用內容分析法,針對國內四大報近十一年(2003-2014)內的新聞內容進行內容分析,分別從「新聞報導觀點」、「自殺原因」、「自殺者形象報導」以及「資優生形象報導」探究自殺事件的報導,深入研究自殺新聞文本並逐步回答研究問題,探討報紙新聞如何報導自殺事件及呈現方式,以及如何再現自殺事件。

無 / The current study is aimed to more closely examine the gendered coverage for basketball in Taiwan’s newspapers. Newspaper coverage of the Jones Cup from 2007-2009 was content analyzed, along with in-depth interviews with the reporters and editors. The results revealed that quantitatively, news coverage on women’s basketball has greatly improved in comparison with data in the past literature. However, qualitatively, the gendered values proved, such as infantilization and sexualization, still exist and are embedded in sports news nowadays. The examples of better the reporting patterns for women’ws basketball were identified with the principle of emphasizing on sports performance. In addition, there are a few consensuses among the interviewees on the challenges and suggestions for women’s basketball in Taiwan, including (1) the current system, (2) marketing and (3) media relations. In short, the purpose of the current study provides and offers practical suggestions of how to fairly report women basketball games and other women sports.

馬來西亞巫華女性候選人媒介分析-以第12屆全國大選為例 / Media analyst sees malay and chinese female candidates in Malaysia's twelfth general election coverage

本研究從媒體、政黨與族群三個角度切入,引用量化内容分析法與質化文本分析方法,去了解不同語言媒體建構不同政黨與族群女性候選人形象特質爲何?研究結果顯示,在媒體的比較上,《馬來西亞前鋒報》由於是馬來語文報紙較偏好馬來女性候選人新聞,至於中文報《星洲日報》則恰恰相反的偏向華人女性候選人新聞,充分反映族群報的特色,即認同與自己相同語言的女性候選人;在政黨立場上,《馬來西亞前鋒報》由於受控於巫統,較偏好報導國陣女性候選人新聞,反觀《星洲日報》雖掌握在與國陣擁有良好關係的朋黨手中,但是在報導上卻偏好民聯女性候選人新聞,反映媒體擁有權並非必然影響媒體的黨派立場。 至於政黨聯盟的對照上,可以發現國陣與民聯女性候選人形象上的差異,主要來自聯盟内的族群,是為族群性別分野的再現,其中兩大聯盟都傾向將華人女性候選人建立起「積極角色」,至於馬來女性候選人,在國陣比較是「消極角色」,反觀民聯則是「中立角色」的建立,雖然兩者主題上有所不同,但所強調的是一種「中立又偏消極」的參政姿態,這與華人女性候選人積極參政姿態很不相同。 最後再深入探究馬來人與華人女性候選人形象比較上,並從三方面著手,即參政途徑的比較、政治角色的比較以及私領域的比較,歸納出三點:(一)被黨主導的馬來女性候選人與主動出擊的華人女性候選人;(二)依賴男性的馬來女性候選人與自主型的華人女性候選人;(三)重視母職的馬來女性候選人與雙重角色負擔的華人女性候選人。

追憶似水年華;論阿蘭達蒂之《微物之神》中之再現與踰越 / Remembrance of Things Past:Representation and Transgression in Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things

在這篇研究阿蘭達蒂•洛伊《微物之神》之再現與踰越的論文中,筆者所要探討的主題有二,第一點旨在分析作者如何透過雙胞胎女孩的稚氣觀察去敘事,呈現出印度南方小鎮中,一家族興落的故事。筆者藉由霍米•巴巴的殖民學舌和含混將小說中的後殖民景狀加以探討;第二點以佳亞特麗•史碧娃克的第三世界女性觀點,探討小說中阿慕的踰越社會加諸於女性之限制。尤其在殖民後的印度,女性的角色並未因解殖民而提高或改善,故其跨越性別邊界及限制之舉,實為後殖民女性自覺與自我定位之肯定。 第一章筆者將阿蘭達蒂之生長背景及寫作過程作簡要之介紹。第二章筆者將後殖民印度之文學情況與阿蘭達蒂之寫作特色做一連結及闡述。第三章筆者提出霍米•巴巴之殖民學舌及含混敘述小說中重要之片段。第四章筆者以佳亞特麗•史碧娃克於文章「賤民能否發言?」中對第三世界女性所受之同質化等之不平對待,引出小說中作者所要表達的議題。以小說中阿慕為例,筆者闡述後殖民女性應有超越束縛之意識,並進而達成自我的定位。第五章,筆者對《微物之神》之標題做出自己之見解,並總論此篇研究所欲達到之景境。 / In the study of Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things, I focus on two essential aspects: representation and transgression. The first concern lies in the author’s linguistic and literary presentation that is closely related to Homi K. Bhabha’s colonial mimicry and hybridity in the novel. My second concern is related to Gayatri C. Spivak’s postcolonial feminist thoughts and Ammu’s transgressive behaviors. In the first chapter, I offer an epitome of the thesis. The themes of biology and transgression expressed by the author testify to the postcolonial tasks of demolishing the authorized norm and praising the indigenous aesthetics. The literary and sexual transgressions in and of the novel illustrate the abatement of confinements and the liberation of the mind and body. The second chapter of the thesis discusses literary issues in postcolonial India that are closely related to Arundhati Roy’s novel and writing. In the third chapter, I further develop Homi K. Bhabha’s theories of mimicry and hybridity that accentuate literary strategies in Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things. The fourth chapter has deeply explored on Gayatri C. Spivak’s postcolonial feminist thoughts and analyzed the transgressors that break up the social bonds in the novel. In the final chapter, I explain the novel’s title with the stress on indigenous aesthetics and the ensuing change of little discourse.

路途上:《兩個閒散徒弟的懶惰旅遊》中的空間實踐 / On the Road: Spatial Practices in The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices

《兩個閒蕩徒弟的懶惰旅行》(The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices, 1857) 是一本由查理‧狄更斯(Charles Dickens)與威爾基‧柯林斯(Wilkie Collins)根據他們的旅途見聞再加上各自創作的兩篇短篇故事所集結而成的小說。在過去,許多批評家只單論文本中的兩篇短篇故事,而忽略鑲嵌短篇故事的主架構,把文本切割至互不相連的碎片。本論文主要採取昂希‧列斐伏爾(Henri Lefebvre)對於空間三面向的理論概念來剖析《兩個閒蕩徒弟的懶惰旅行》在文本中反覆出現,並且被不同主體所論述的閒蕩(idleness)一詞,試圖藉由呈現閒蕩的多重意義而把《兩個閒蕩徒弟的懶惰旅行》視為一有機的整體。論文第二章借助空間的再現(representation of space)概念論述看似懶散、不事生產的地景是如何被規劃,最終喪失其神性(deity)。論文的第三章則檢視空間使用者與空間的互動。本章從空間實踐(spatial practice)的角度切入,試圖證明文本中的精神病院(lunatic asylum)、火車站(railway station)與賽馬週(race-week)的空間規劃異化(alienate)了生活在其中的空間居民,而居民無所事事的遊蕩正是此異化的展現。第四章援引再現的空間(space of representation)之概念,試圖證明閒蕩也有其積極面向。藉由檢視故事主人翁法蘭西‧古柴爾德(Francis Goodchild)與湯瑪士‧艾朵(Thomas Idle)既合作又競爭的夥伴關係,閒蕩對於湯瑪士‧艾朵而言,是一種在文本中爭取發言權的手段。至於對缺乏官方實證的怪談野史而言,閒蕩也是一種抵抗大論述收編、並且同時揭露資本主義中金錢對於人性腐蝕的路徑。 / The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices is a travelogue worked in collaboration between Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins. Besides noting down what they observe and encounter during the trip, Dickens and Collins also enclose two gothic tales which is written respectively by them. Nevertheless, when most critics mention The Lazy Tour, they limit their concerns to simply the two interpolated tales, which violates the integrity of The Lazy Tour by dissecting it into disconnected pieces. This thesis proposes to apply Henri Lefebvre’s conceptual triad to analyze the recurring theme, idleness, which is interpreted by different subjects. By presenting the variations of the concept of idleness, this thesis attempts to see The Lazy Tour as an organic whole. Applying the idea of representation of space, Chapter Two explains how the seemingly inoperative landscapes are programmed and designed, which results in the demise of the deity of Nature. With the support of the concept of spatial practice, Chapter Three proposes to demonstrate how the spatial designs of the lunatic asylum, railway station, and the festive occasion, the race-week, respectively alienate the spatial inhabitants. The idleness manifested by these spatial inhabitants is the syndrome of their alienation. Chapter Four analyzes the constructive aspect of the idleness with the assistance of Lefebvre’s idea of space of representation. In terms of Thomas Idle, one of the protagonists, idleness serves as a resistant measure to develop his own narrative.
