Previous issue date: 2016-03-04 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Digital culture - forged by the information revolution of the 60s by the advent of new information technologies and communication, especially the computer and the Internet - has constituted this century a social process of long unplanned duration, inaugurating a new social and cultural space: cyberspace. The world has become culture, a culture-world, where power flows is more important than the power flows in an informational and global society. In this society in transformation, tecnichian process, whose technique is an anthropological constant, the notions of individual, species, society and culture, need to be (re) connected to understand the new ways of thinking, acting and feeling this new social context. Among the diverse cultural practices daily reading, it is one of the most important and is constituted as a reality shared meanings intersubjectively and expressed in language, constituent elements of social reality. Therefore, we sought to understand the impact of digital culture in the contemporary world, in everyday life and reading as a cultural practice, by knowing the contexts of social relations in social reality. The daily was considered as leverage the knowledge and theoretical and methodological route. We conducted a case study on a project developed in cyberspace, in a distance learning platform: the "Literary Virtual Itineraries: Guimarães Rosa". Through a virtual ethnography and a phenomenological approach, analyzed the social interactions of the participants understood as subjective meanings of social action and a relevant reference of the sociology of everyday life. As a universal manifestation of all men, literature is much closer to the sociological and analyzed experiment constituted a powerful source of cultural repertoire expansion. It proved to be an important gathering of information and communication technologies, in cyberspace, with the changes of reading as a cultural practice, and literature, enabling an understanding of the social context of digital culture and innovate in sociological do, as an intellectual craft / A cultura digital - forjada pela revolução informacional dos anos 60 pelo advento das novas tecnologias da informação e comunicação, principalmente do computador e da internet - vem se constituindo neste século num processo social de longa duração não planejado, inaugurando um novo espaço social e cultural: o ciberespaço.

Instituições e públicos culturais: um estudo sobre mediação a partir do caso SESC-São Paulo / Cultural institutions and cultural publics: a study of mediation from the case SESC-São PauloOliveira, Maria Carolina de Vasconcelos 01 September 2009 (has links)
Analyzing three unities of SESC-São Paulo (Pinheiros, Pompéia and Itaquera) as a case-study, this study aims to understand whether and how this institution enlarges and diversifies the set of cultural practices of its users. The goal is to outline the characteristics and dynamics involving the so-called mediation process, through which the institution approaches a diversity of cultural products and its potential audiences. The author, therefore, relies on a concept of cultural practice as a mutually-constructed relation: on the one hand, it is influenced by the social and educational conditions of the individual and, on the other hand, by values and policies held by the institution (in this case, SESC-São Paulo). This research intends to collaborate both with sociological field of cultural practices and audiences and with the improvement of public or private organizations engagement in promoting access to culture, formation of audiences and education through cultural activities.

[en] BLACK AND WHITE PORTRAIT OF MEDIA HYBRIDISM: THE CULTURAL PRACTICES OF FUTURE TEACHERS/PROFESSORS, STUDENTS AT UFRJ / [pt] RETRATO EM BRANCO E PRETO DE HIBRIDISMO MIDIÁTICO: PRÁTICAS CULTURAIS DOS ESTUDANTES DE LICENCIATURA DA UFRJ, FUTUROS PROFESSORESMARIA DA GLORIA BAKER BOTELHO 25 January 2005 (has links)
destes jovens estudantes universitá¡rios, analisadas segundo
A análise,
comprovada.
A leitura e o
[en] The Cultural practices of future teachers attending
Education courses at UFRJ were studied in order to verify
the hypothesis that the variations of the cultural
practices of these young students, analyzed according their
university centers (CFCH, CCMN, CCS e CLA), can also be
attributed to what is being proposed here as variable of
acquaintanceship, besides the traditional (socioeconomic
and demographic) explanatory variables. The questionnaire,
answered by 369 students attending the Psychology of
Education II course, in the year 2003, with at least two
years of university experience, was designed based on 4
constructs: protocultures; culture of volume; leisure
cultures; and socio-digital cultures. The simple
descriptive analysis was followed by the discriminative
descriptive analysis, multivariated, which at least in an
exploratory basis avoided that the hypothesis should be
confirmed. That analysis indicated another possibilities to
group the variables where the linguistic cultures (written-
reading matter) and the techno-scientific cultures (socio-
digital) can play an important role to the confirmation of
the hypothesis. The reading matter and the link with music
were aspects that allowed develop some profiles of the
several youths, by center, however without conclusive
dimension.

Impact of socio-cultural practices on substance abuse amongst the rural youth : towards the development of a school-based intervention programmeMabasa, Matimba Allan January 2018 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D. (Social Work)) -- University of Limpopo, 2018 / The scourge of substance abuse globally amongst the youth today is probably one of the most talked about risky health behaviours in history, and is increasing at an alarming rate. Socio-cultural practices contribute towards the use and abuse of substances by the youth in rural areas. The “Ke Moja” programme that dealt with youth substance abuse was rarely received in these areas. The researcher sought to study the impact of socio-cultural practices towards substance abuse amongst the youth to develop a school-based intervention programme. The researcher’s research methodology included a mixed methodological approach that is, exploratory-descriptive design. Stratified-systematic and purposive sampling methods were used to draw a sample from learners, educators, social workers and SGB members. The data collection methods employed was semi-structured interview schedule and questionnaires. Data was analysed using thematic analysis. The results reveal that alcohol and drugs serve as agents of socialisation in socio-cultural events. It was found that there are different types of traditional home-brewed beers that the youth abuse almost daily because they are cheap, easily accessible and available. The findings also reveal that socio-cultural events contribute towards substance abuse in rural areas. The study reveals that sociocultural events take place almost every weekend where the youth use substaces as agents of socialisation. The findings reveal that the need for socio-culturally appropriate substance abuse prevention programmes amongst the youth is important in rural areas. The programme is called “Hambanani” which literally means doing away with the use and abuse of substances. The researcher concludes that socio-cultural practices contribute towards the abuse of substances by the youth in rural areas. The researcher recommends that social workers implement a school-based intervention programme on the impact of socio-cultural practices towards substance abuse amongst the rural youth.

Summary of the thesis The thesis focuses on the analysis of the contribution of communication in the fight against bodily mutilations, in this case that of excision or female circumcision (which is the most widespread practice) of women in the Republic of Guinea. These practices of bodily mutilations are still often presented as cultural practices inscribed in cultural tradition and identity. The "keep the rite, not the mutilation" approach promotes the rites of excision, clitoridectomy and infibulation, the values that are bequeathed to young girls during the initiation ceremony. In 2012 and 2014, the United Nations General Assembly devoted two (2) important resolutions to the fight against female genitale mutilations (on December 20, 2012, Resolution A / RES / 67/146 and in December 2014, Resolution A / RES / 69/150). For our part, through this research work, we have neither promoted the rite, since better ways of transmitting culture exist today, nor that of mutilation because of its effects on the health of the reproduction. We have tried to understand, from the grids of communication intelligibility, how these practices can evolve and have advocated some solutions by mobilizing approaches in the field of the sciences of information and communication. It was therefore necessary to reform the "communication" to put it at the center of the concerns of the rulers with a view to bringing practitioners to a cultural change of gradually abandoning practices that are several thousand years old.

Epidemiology and management of the Indian peanut clump virusDelfosse, Philippe 28 January 2000 (has links)
Groundnut or peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important legume cultivated in several developing countries in the tropics and subtropics. It plays a significant role as a food crop in regions with alarming population growth rates. The disease “peanut clump”, which is caused by viruses in the genus Pecluvirus, has been reported from India and from several countries of West Africa. In India, the causal agent is the Indian peanut clump virus (IPCV), which is transmitted by a soil-borne root parasite, Polymyxa graminis. The virus is also transmitted by infected seed and so far no economical method of control has been found. Therefore efforts have been concentrated on understanding the epidemiology of peanut clump disease with the aim of devising cultural methods of control. The work addressed in this thesis describes how investigation in various aspects of clump disease epidemiology, including identification of alternative hosts of the virus and the vector, and of factors that contribute to survival and spread of inoculum, has led to formulation of simple cultural practices that could reduce disease incidence.

The history of students in Ituiutaba-MG in the period that comprehends the years of 1952 to
1968, mainly those bound to student associations, it is constituted as research object of this
dissertation. Such temporal delimitation comes of the year of creation of the União
Estudantil de Ituiutaba student representation entity at the municipal level, which constituted
a milestone for the organization of local students, and is limited until 1968, when most of
these subjects were disentailing of the entity, gradually losing strength of organization and
action in society. In the course of this research highlight important events relating to the
actions of the student movement, on the political, cultural, social and educational scenario
present in national and regional level in the 1950s and 1960s. Here is also a brief history of
the municipality of Ituiutaba and its educational setting until the 1960s as a way to
contextualize the horizon on which stood the principal actions of the students in Ituiutaba.
This study enabled us to perform reflections about the genesis, performance and weakening of
the student movement in this city, and to identify and analyze the actions of a political nature
made by this. We observed much of the cultural practices experienced by students represented
by unions, clubs and other student bodies of the four local high schools, revealing the
common educational principles that circulated in this scenario. Furthermore, it was possible to
identify the student profile reported in the press in that context. Therefore, we use as main
source of research collections of five newspapers that circulated in Ituiutaba in the 1950s and
1960s. Also resorted to oral history, through semi structured interviews the four student
leaders from the investigated context, and analysis of the Minutes of the City Hall of
Ituiutaba, photographs of schools and students, works of memoirists and documents of
secondary level schools investigated as their internal regulations and inspection reports. So we
conducted a cross between discussed sources, compared to the bibliography on the theme,
always relating the local context with the national. Overall, this work allows us to understand
the history of these important subjects of the educational process has been marked by
activities that they conformed to the then prevailing political system, especially from the
military dictatorship.
No decorrer dessa pesquisa

The present thesis has the focus on the research of school children's narratives. The study had the objective of analyzing cultural practices related to children and pupils from the fourth grade of Elementary Teaching of public and private schools in Porto Alegre (Brazil). It was also examined the way that such practices are organized and produce identities in these texts, considered as particular discursive genres. The empiric material of the research was constituted by a collection of two hundred and twenty texts written in the classroom that were identified and selected for the analysis of thematic focuses. Such focuses were distributed in chapters nominated as follows: School narratives – an exclusive discursive genre, Childhood mosaics, Family stories and From experience of reading another time the school texts. The methodological and theoretical support is concentrated on the Cultural Studies field about narratives and identities in a discursive approach. The narratives are extended to a particular sense, in other words, as discursive practices that imply the relation between speech and identities. The research was in accordance with the contributions of some authors, like Leonor Arfuch, Jorge Larrosa, Mikhail Bakhtin, Dominique Maingueneau, Claudia Fonseca, Dagmar Meyer, and others. As a result of the analysis developed, it was possible to identify a diversity of social and cultural experiences and, this in turn, to demonstrate the potential of such written narratives. On balance, the latter aspect generates, reproduces and legitimizes meanings: own textual features of the school culture, desires, fantasies, values, cares, rituals and power relations. This aspect also points ways of being a boy and a girl in the school, in the family, among other social instances.

Les pratiques culturelles des Libanais à l'ère numérique : une question d'identité / Cultural practices of the Lebanese in the digital age : une question d'identitéAkoury, Paula 22 December 2017 (has links)
Starting from the question : what cultural matters do Lebanese people use in their free time ? This PhD thesis relies on the idea of the existence of a relationship between the structure of society and cultural practices, developed by Pierre Bourdieu in the theory of cultural legitimacy. The hybrid structure of society, a concept borrowed from Melhem Chaoul, constitutes the specificity of the Lebanese context : the existence of a francophone, multicultural and provided with a large diaspora country, as well as the contemporary diffusion of digital practices, raise questions related to the definition of cultural identity. Promoting the concept of « degree of cultural adhesion » seems necessary in order to find an answer. Based on a survey of 1,200 respondents in Lebanon, 120 respondents in France and 36 in depth interviews, the study shows that young people, as opposed to the older ones, tend most towards Western culture and digital practices. The most educated people consume both Lebanese and Western cultural goods simultaneously. As a matter of fact, the consumption of Western cultural goods is facilitated by trilingualism, which is mastered by almost half of the Lebanese. Additionally it has been shown that the regional inequality of the cultural offer is not homologous to a regional inequality of cultural practices. Religious commitment as well as the position in the life cycle impact cultural practices.
