[en] A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON VOCATIVES IN ORAL LANGUAGE FOR PORTUGUESE L2 / [pt] UM ESTUDO DESCRITIVO DO VOCATIVO EM LINGUAGEM ORAL PARA PORTUGUÊS L2DEBORA CARVALHO CAPELLA 18 September 2009 (has links)
[en] The aim of this study is to identify, describe and analyze the words and/or
expressions in the position of vocatives, used by native speakers of Portuguese in
daily situations, in its varied forms of interaction, in order to help foreign learners
of Portuguese during their learning process regarding such terms. Based,
basically, on concepts from Social Anthropology, Interculturalism and
Pragmatics, we intend to present the usage of vocatives in informal oral discourse,
observing some contexts of applicability, strategies used by speakers and also, the
level of linguistic appropriateness in intercultural communication.

[en] This thesis proposes that empowering leadership plays an important role in engaging highly qualified professionals, and consequently, on their performance and results achieved by organizations, particularly service companies. This work develops a theoretical model that associates empowering leadership with the
engagement of professionals in education, and through its mediation, with attitudes and behaviors of students in professional education. These premises are investigated empirically through a field study, based on data collected from a sample of 71 coordinators of professional programs, 404 faculty from these programs, and 577 students enrolled in the courses. Data were analyzed through the application of multivariate regression analysis and mediation tests. The results suggest that empowering leadership has a direct impact on the engagement of faculty in professional schools, and indirectly affects the satisfaction of students with teaching, and their attitude towards the programs.

[en] The role of English as a first language in teaching-learning process of Portuguese as a second language for foreigners investigates, as the own title indicates, the relation between first and second languages - L1 and L2 - in the process of L2 development by adult speakers. The main objective of the dissertation was to confront teaching theories and methods that defend the monolinguism in L2 classroom, and seek to distance L2 from L1, that is perceived as interference in the learning process. Questioning this idea, the research analyzed a period of ten hours of Portuguese as L2 classes, taught for native English speakers, in an immersion context in Brazil, specifically in PUC-Rio. To develop this analysis, basics concepts of psychoanalysis, interculturalism and social construction of knowledge were used as theoretical foundation, that shed light on L1-L2 interface, involving all of its dimensions, especially the subjective, the cultural and the social ones, respectively. After the classes transcriptions, the research identified the moments in which the students switched from Portuguese to English, observing the reasons and consequences of this alternation from L2 to L1. As from this, we concluded that students used English, their mother language, with four different functions: expressing feelings, evaluating, understanding structure and expanding vocabulary. Excepting for the first one, the three others resulted in knowledge construction and, thus, it manifested itself as a pedagogical resource. In its turn, the L1 use for expressing feelings in L2 classroom was noted in a different way, because it was not effectively positive to the learning process. Therefore, the information provided by the analysis of data indicated a positive tendency in the L1 use, corroborating the thesis that L1 can be an auxiliary resource for new language learning.

[en] HOW DOES THE READING PROCESSTAKE PLACE IN A HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL?: WHAT DO THE CONCEPT MAPS AND THE SUMMARIES SHOW / [pt] COMO SE DÁ O PROCESSO DE LEITURA DE UMA TURMA DE ENSINO MÉDIO DA REDE PÚBLICA?: O QUE OS MAPAS CONCEITUAIS E OS RESUMOS RETRATAMADRIANA BAPTISTA MACHADO DE SA FREIRE 17 March 2006 (has links)
Janeiro.
trechos do texto
original para resumi-lo; outros fazem recorte-colagem
utilizando marcadores
que forçam coesão, gerando frases desconexas. No
entanto,
os resumos da
segunda fase mostraram-se mais reduzidos, sinalizando
assim maior
capacidade de sumarização. Conseqüentemente, a
quantidade
havido maior compreensão do texto original. Estes
resultados sugerem que
uma intervenção mais sistemática pode apontar caminhos
para o
desenvolvimento no processo de leitura e compreensão de
textos de naturezas
diversas. / [en] Several studies concerning reading comprehension have
been published
aiming to offer better learning opportunities in this
context. Differently from other
studies, this study aims to investigate how the concept
maps, which have
already been used in other contexts, are related with the
teaching of
Portuguese as L1. This study is based on ethnography
principles and analyses
the summaries of students in two phases, one before the
intervention and the
other after the intervention with concept maps. Besides,
it triangulates the data
from the summaries with information of interviews with ten
students, which aim
at elucidating how the texts were summarized. We also used
field notes, the
ranking of the summaries in inverted order by the teachers
of Portuguese and
Text Production, and information about the performance of
a class of first year
High School of a State School in Petrópolis, Rio de
Janeiro. The results of the
first summaries indicate that the majority of the students
copy parts of the
original text trying to summarize them. Other students
copy and paste parts of
the text using discourse markers which force cohesion,
creating meaningless
sentences. On the other hand, the summaries from the
second phase were
shorter, which indicates better capacity of summarizing.
Consequently, the
volume of copy also decreased, indicating that, at least
in some cases, an
increase of comprehension seems to have taken place. These
results suggest
that a more systematic intervention with concept maps can
indicate ways to
promote development in the reading and in the
comprehension process of texts
of varied sources.

[en] ENGLISH, THE GLOBAL LANGUAGE OF NOWADAYS / [pt] INGLÊS, A LÍNGUA GLOBAL DOS DIAS ATUAISCARMEN DOLORES BRANCO DO REGO BARROS 06 October 2005 (has links)
aprendizado do inglês deve
possibilitar a aquisição de ferramentas necessárias à
formação e desenvolvimento de
falantes verdadeiramente inseridos em um mundo
globalizado, no qual o conhecimento
[en] This research states the problems faced by mankind to
communicate efficiently, a
task made difficult due to the high number of languages -
about 6.500 - in the world
and the search of solutions to solve this issue. The
strongest trend at this moment is that
of accepting English as the global language, since it
undeniably represents economic
power and political strength. This acceptance, though,
must not lead to a lack of
prestige or the disappearance of other languages. One of
the main goals in the learning
of English must be the acquisition of tools necessary in
the formation and
development of speakers truly inserted in a globalized
world, in which knowledge is
more and more required and valued. The research also
emphasizes that the learning
of a foreign language must contribute to the formation of
citizens aware of the value of
their own languages and cultures.

[en] PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICES AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: INITIAL TEACHER TRAINING AND INNOVATION AT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL (UFMS) / [pt] PRÁTICAS PEDAGÓGICAS E TECNOLOGIAS DIGITAIS NO ENSINO SUPERIOR: FORMAÇÃO INICIAL DE PROFESSORES E INOVAÇÃO NA UFMSDAIANI DAMM 31 October 2018 (has links)
[en] The present study focused on pedagogical practices with the use of digital technologies in undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS). The general objective of the research was to identify and analyze the characteristics of pedagogical practices with the use of digital technologies from the point of view of institutional projects and the perceptions of teachers and students of these courses, in order to identify the level of technological capital of teachers and the relation of this capital to pedagogical practices, considered innovative within the institutional context. The methodological path started with a literature review, through the analysis of course projects, a questionnaire for coordinators and a questionnaire for teachers and students, finalizing with teachers and students interviews. We highlighted on this study the integration of different analytical procedures in order to obtain descriptive, relational and comprehensive knowledge. The research indicates that, although in most pedagogical projects there are disciplines that deal with the use of digital technologies and that teachers use several digital resources in their pedagogical practices, the level of incorporation does not yet allow this use to overcome the instrumental one. The few innovative experiences found demonstrate that, the technological capital of
teachers is a preponderant factor for the changes in pedagogical practices, but these isolated experiences do not yet have a dissemination and adhesion potential of the group, since there is not a favorable climate for the innovation in the institution, perhaps because there is no institutional project to foster the use of
digital technologies in pedagogical practice or a teacher training institutional policy that establishes goals for improvement in teacher training.

[en] POLYEDRA ARCHIMEDES: AN ENRICHING STUDY FOR SPACE GEOMETRY CLASSES IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS / [pt] POLIEDROS DE ARQUIMEDES: UM ESTUDO ENRIQUECEDOR PARA AS AULAS DE GEOMETRIA ESPACIAL NA REDE PÚBLICATHAIS DE SALES RIBEIRO 23 May 2016 (has links)
[en] The main axis of this work is the inclusion of the study of Polyhedra Archimedes to complement the minimum content of space geometry, which is required for the development of this subject in high school at public schools. The work was developed to enhance the study of geometry, that despite its extreme importance has been losing ground for algebra within the minimum curriculum, imposed by the State Department of Education, and awaken in the student interest in the content to be worked. Divided into three stages, the development of the work started with the planning of polyhedra, including the concept of face, vertices and edges, straight positions and plane in space, construction of polyhedra, regular polyhedra and semiregular, spatial visualization, the Euler relationship and the demonstration of why there are only five regular polyhedra. The use of technological resources as an enabling tool for teaching, this first time, also had a great function, the pursuit of attention and interest of the student for the content. The second and third stages were exhibition of work at first with a view to, through art, expose quickly and succinctly, what are the polyhedra of Plato, the Polyhedra of Archimedes and its main features, seeking to reach an audience beyond the classroom. In the third stage, the student becomes the protagonist in the development of the workshop, held concurrently with the exhibition s content through art.

[en] THE ENGLISH ON THE EDGE: INVESTIGATING THE DISCURSIVE CONSTRUCTION OF THE AFFECTIVE EXPERIENCES IN TRAJECTORIES OF ENGLISH LEARNING / [pt] O INGLÊS À FLOR DA PELE: INVESTIGANDO A CONSTRUÇÃO DISCURSIVA DAS EXPERIÊNCIAS AFETIVAS EM TRAJETÓRIAS DE APRENDIZAGEM DE LÍNGUA INGLESADIEGO CANDIDO ABREU 25 July 2018 (has links)
[en] The main objective of this work is to generate understandings about the role(s) played by the emotion(s) - or, more precisely, by emotional experiences - in the process of teaching/learning English, taking the discursive construction of these affective experiences grounded on the interactional practice as an analytical platform. To support this investigation, in this research, a theoretical dialogue between Discursive Psychology (WETHERELL, 1998), Sociohistorical Psychology (VYGOTSKY, 1994; AVERILL, 1985) and Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006) is crafted. As a tool for analysis of the corpus here investigated, the theoretical and analytical framework of the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1994), in dialogue with the Appraisal System (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005), is articulated with the structural narrative model
(LABOV, 1972). Regarding its theoretical and methodological aspects, this research is grounded on a (inter-)subjectivist and dialogical view of the process of knowledge construction, theoretically systematized in the Qualitative Epistemology (GONZÁLEZ-REY, 1997). Three semi-structured interviews have been conducted, having as a thematic axis the participants experiences with the English language.
Analyses of data suggest that, as well as the interrelationship between affect and experience preconized by Vygotsky (2001), the evaluative aspects of the discursive fragments guide the process of the discursive construction of the emotional experiences, setting the basis for the construction of the highlighted narratives.
