You get a very twisted view on sex” : A thematic analysis based on media depictions of cisgender men and lgbtiq-peoples experiences of having sex for compensation

Andlin, Elsa, Axelsson, Victoria January 2021 (has links)
The perspective of cismen and lgbtiq-people, in particular trans people, has been the main focus in this study when investigating the themes in media depictions of their experiences of having sex for compensation. The reason for this particular focus is the lack of research regarding these people’s experiences and that surveys show that they are common within the population of people who have had sex for compensation. The aim is to fill in the existing gaps of knowledge as well as to shine a light on this topic. The stories have been collected from different media outlets as well as organizations for lgbtiq-people who have had sex for compensation and is therefore in the form of secondary data. A thematic analysis has been conducted, where the themes Young people sell violent sex to older men, Abuse or longing for love and closeness are the starting points, Sex for compensation as self-harm, “You get a very twisted view on sex” and There’s no room to talk about it at all have been identified, which are discussed in relation to social constructionism, intersectionality and the sparse previous research regarding this topic. In conclusion, the results show that power structures and interpretative prerogative are important in understanding these particular experiences and that the current support from authorities is deficient.

The Norms in the Body: Power structures and their Transgression through Arts-based research

Kraler, Esther January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explore the entanglement of various power axes with the body through 'body mapping' and to look into how the implementation of the method enriches research processes. 'Body mapping' is an arts-based method which places the body in the center of social inquiry. This allows the body to be explored as a central site where social identity is negotiated, while being engaged in this exploration. This orientation might allow insights into how embodied power relations affect people’s lives and how 'body mapping' can contribute to this exploration through raising consciousness and bringing forward personal embodied knowledges. 'Body mapping' will thus ideally allow participants to see themselves through a different angle and thereby engage with questions of how normative ideas in relation to identity are shaping their experiences and feelings of non/belonging in Swedish society. This might initiate newly informed understandings in participants’ lives regarding critical consciousness on their positionality and foster participants’ connection to their bodies as sources of knowledge.

Hur platt är platt? : En kvalitativ studie om icke-hierarkiska organisationer / How flat is flat? : A qualitative study of non-hierarchal organizations

Lundström Wittenfelt, Emma, Stedt, Lotten January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to understand how the phenomenon of flatness works and is experienced in organizations and to gain an increased understanding of self-organization and formal and informal structures in non-hierarchical organizations. An experimental phenomenological study was conducted on two flat organizations in Sweden with the criterion of few or no middle levels of managers. The method used was a method combination where group interviews and in-depth interviews were combined. A total of eight people were interviewed at the companies where a semi-structured interview guide based on Jo Freeman's essay The Tyranny of structurelessness from 1970 were used. The empirical material was later categorized through a thematic content analysis and analyzed through three approaches to be able to identify and describe how the companies were flat. The result and the analysis showed that the two companies could be considered flat in different ways. Other findings were that the concept flat is complex where different factors interact with each other. Further research should focus on whether it is the organization that initiates flatness or whether the right individuals are selected into an organization and make it flat. Further research can also focus on intersectionality and how identity and power interact in a flat organization to promote democratic participation.

ICA likes you, do you like ICA?

Lundberg, Johanna, Ullman, Caroline January 2015 (has links)
Today there is limited theories considering reasearch on the postmodern consumtion society from a media and communication perspective. The purpose with this thesis is to investigate the tension between ICA and Univeristy students in a consumption society through analysis brandbuilding communications meaning on digital platforms. The material to the thesis is collected by qualitative interviews, both with employees at ICA and focus groups with university students. With this thesis we want to give an insight of how communication processes strategically is designed to reach their target group, how relationships are nurtured and what a good dialogue means for future brand building. The study has analyzed the tension of what includes the choice of consumption when it comes to retail business from university students perspective. The conclusions indicate how there are a number of factors that are contributing to build a strong relationship with an organization.

Fighting Tyranny in Fantastic Literature for Children and Young Adults

Kokorski, Karin 10 June 2020 (has links)
The focus of fighting tyranny and the justifications of the consecutive wars in fantasy literature for children and young adults play a noteworthy role in the intertwinement of literature and its educational potential. This genre is filled with numerous images of violence, in particular different scenarios of war and its justifications. In the books war constitutes the final battle between good and evil, and thus manifests the protagonists’ ultimate moral decisions between these two forces. The following books constitute the corpus: C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia (1950-56), Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising Sequence (1965-77), Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials (1995-2000), J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series (1997-2007), Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle (2002-11), Amanda Hemingway’s Sangreal Trilogy (2005-07), and P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast’s House of Night novels (2007-2014). Although not all the books feature wars, all display justifications for war and the imperative to fight tyranny. Located within an intersection of diverse critical theories, my thesis engages literary texts in order to reflect on their capacity to negotiate, challenge, subvert, and perpetuate values and power structures. Motif analysis forms the centre of this analysis. I deploy a varied approach to literary analysis, relying upon literary and cultural theories (especially theories of ideology) to understand the realizations of the different motifs. Through issues of character construction, (political) authority, religion, and the construction of difference, the reader learns much about the culture and values of the respective world. Furthermore, this analysis invites the reader to find parallels between the fabricated world and the real world, and thus transfer what s/he has learned from the texts his/her own world. Engaging in such a reading ensures the drawing of direct connections between the reality constructed in the books on the one hand, and politics, the construction of difference, religion, and just war theory in the reader’s world on the other. The content analysis leads to broader cultural messages, which comprise assumptions about gender, power, ethnicity, religion, and morality. This methodology emphasizes the relevance as well as the complexity of the books and their educative potential, and facilitates the analysis of the books as tools for the defence and perpetuation of Western values and culture.

Arns makt : Representationer av makt, positivt kapital och livsmål i berättelserna om tempelriddaren Arn / The Power of Arn : Representations of Power, Positive Capital and Aims in Life in the Narratives about Arn the Knight Templar

Särnbrink, My January 2011 (has links)
My Särnbrink hette tidigare My Ravin.
